Fresh 3.3 / hotspot ??? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I installed Fresh 3.3 and it has the Sprint hotspot app installed. I can turn it on and see it broadcast to my PC, but when I go to connect it asks me for the password. I cannot get into the settings to edit the SSID or password. It does a FC. Anyone know what the default password is or how I can get into the settings???
Thanks

Are you paying for it? If not, you'll need to use android-wifi-tether.

Default password should be: 1234567890

No, but if it works on the phone what happens? Do they eventually bill me for it? I thought you had to be paying to even use it.

It won't work unless you are actually signed up through Sprint to use the "Hotspot", $30.00 per month. You will get an error 67 when the phone tries to connect.
Fresh 3.3.0.1 includes wireless tether, allows you to connect your computer or whatever to the interweb thingy through your phone.

It works all you have to do is go into his removed apk's folder and push it back to your system/app/ folder
Also you can run Caulkins USB tethering fix which removes that error and your Hotspot will work. If you need any assistance just PM me and I will help you. I am running Fresh's new one and I have both USB and HOtspot confirmed working

was anyone able to get 4g tethering to work? I can connect on 4g, but the internet wont load on my computer when tethering

I didn't think there was a working 4g tether yet, only 3g. I could be wrong but I haven't seen any tether's for 4g yet, many people asking though.

[Q] Can I get free wireless tethering with the verizon OTA 2.2

Hi guys im currently running sky raider 3.0 because i love the free wireless tethering. I was wondering if I went back to stock, with s off and then installed Verizons OTA of 2.2 would I be able to get free wireless tethering?
Thanks so much.
yes, as long as you are rooted you can use wireless tether.
Posted by dalepl:
You go into EPST (##778). Password is 000000 (zeros). Under security, you will see a user name with [email protected]. Delete the dun from this. Back up and go into M.UP Default Profile. Again you will see a username with dun in it. Remove dun and commit the chsnges.
You will now be able to use the 3G Mobile Hotbot app that comes in the 2.2 update and will not be charged.
Have fun.

Routes you to a page to pay the monthly service (2GB limit, $20/month).
https://dunsp.vzw.com/selfProvisioning/SelfProvisionServlet
You only have local access, presumably until you provision the service.
Info I see varies slightly from what is given above (e.g., addresses end in dun.vzw3g.com) and still trying some variations of the instructions above. Maybe I didn't commit the change. Still testing.
[Update: Yes, once I switched it to [email protected], instead of [email protected], it worked for me.]

i mean. I would never use the word definite when it comes to this. Watch your usage. I use Wireless Tether..which is amazing, i don't know why people HAVE to use the mobile 3g hotspot and play with duns..I keep my usage around no more than 7-8gbs...and I'm fine.

You use wireLESS tether, but not hotspot? Can you please define the difference and how someone would go about doing one versus the other?
"Using the 3G Mobile Hotspot requires a feature from verizon wireless in order to use the service."
Clicking the app, shows that message. Others have bypassed this requirement by messing with the EPST as posted above. Verizon charges a fee when you use your phones internet on another device.
Wireless Tether is a program that enables Wifi and bluetooth tethering as well, except it is only for rooted users. It isnt affiliated with verizon, it just transmits your phones internet- no questions asked..
Wireless tether requires root permissions..that's it. And you are ready to go..you can add security and filter MAC addresses as well.

If you go back to stock with S-off and then installed the 2.2 OTA. You would then need to flash the recovery that Unrevoked supplies and then you can get root back and use the wireless teather for free. Just a FYI. Sky Raider 3.0 RC3 is the official 2.2 OTA.

[Q] Cannot get internet via Wifi tether anymore

I hope I'm in the correct forum...
I have rooted and flashed VirusROM on my HTC EVO 4G. I used to be able to use Sprint's Hotspot app to tether Wifi to my carputer. I was using it Thursday on the way to my in-law's place for Thanksgiving. I left and then could not get it to work again. The computer connects and the signal is at full strength but all browsers say "Page cannot be displayed" and my weather updates down load anymore. I tried using other computers/devices and all connect but none show an internet connection. I can use Google Maps, send/receive pics and videos, and use the internet on my EVO but I cannot share it. Did Sprint cut me off? Is there a setting I mistakenly changed?? I was under the impression that I can tether for free when its rooted. I even download to different tether apps and got the same results. Anybody have any suggestions? Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance...

Although I am not using wifi tether, I am using the built in wireless tether through Miui. It is working flawlessly on my Mac. I suggest you change your SSID and maybe your password. If no success delete your network settings and try again.

I've never heard of Miui. I'll try that next. I already tried changing the SSID, the passwords, and even the encryption type and nothing worked...I'm gonna go back and try it all again. Thanks for the input, dude!!
Didn't know Miui was a ROM...I like the way I have everything set on Virus so I was hoping to not have to change ROM's. Thanks again though! Please keep suggestions coming, guys!

Try this link, not sure which one will work for you but the pre-14 works for me. Just try each one untill you find one that works on your ROM, sorry I can't point you to ont that I know will work on that rom. I know the link says Nexus one but they will work on the Evo just fine. Most of these act just linke a router, not an ad-hoc.

Sprint's HotSpot and Wifi Tether don't give the option and Barnacle was already set on Channel 1 :/ Thanks though
Wireless tether is what I was talking about I use pre 14, just open the app and menu/settings, its the 4th option down.
I don't know how I missed that option. I went in and changed it to Channel 1 but no change...my roommate came home and sparked up his Incredible's hotspot and it worked perfectly of the bat...something has got to be wrong with my EVO
does your evo say that a device connected and does it show that anything downloaded under the wireless tether app mine used to get stuck at just over 1kb of data then i modded my framework_res.apk and somehow i can tether again
It does seem to stay on a very low KB like 1.1...although it does show the devices that are connected...
Mine did the exact same thing although im not entirely sure what I did that fixed this I edited the xml code for the notification bar and edited the notification bar which somehow caused my tethering to work

WIFI Tethering on T-mobile

Do you know of any settings to have wifi tethering work without the hotspot plan?
With my old HTC sensation I just had to create a new apn with (epc.tmobile.com) to make it work, but with the GIII this is a no go....
If you are rooted...this works great:

I have tried the widgets option but still no go.
Still getting the T-Mobile Hotspot signup page...
anyone able to get this working?
I've also noticed this to be annoying. My HTC Sensation would tether no problem on the same data package. Now T-Mobile has it locked down somehow. Hmm.

Do this, go to Google Play and download (WiFi Tether For Root Users) open the app go to settings, 1) Change device-Profile to Generic ICS. 2) Change Setup-Method to Netd (master). Now go back and click on the big WiFi icon to start tethering, soon as the system finds the device pull down the notification and authorize it, make sure the Access-Control is enabled., your're all set, good luck.

I guess this will encourage him to ROOT, one of the perks you get being rooted.
T mobile can be a real pain in the ass with blocking tethering. I don't believe the app matters best way I know to get around it is to change the user agent on the computer and do not use internet explorer. I believe chrome and firefox have plugins for that.
I tried FoxFi on a non-rooted stock t999, doesn't work. Sends out the wifi signal, but the computer never actually connects to it. Keeps giving me some kind of error when trying to connect to wifi.
Using the built in tether wifi option, I can connect to the wifi being supplied by the sgs3, but any web activity takes me to the t-mobile hotspot sign up page.
OP use firefox, not chrome to tether. seriously.
and you can try downloading the 'tether' app from the clockworkmod website. google it.
I tether my nexus 7 from my sgs3 with foxfi and its really simple. Just make sure u install pdanet on the device u want to tether. I'm doing a tether with Bluetooth.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
On my S3, I only need to turn on tethering and it works. I small on t-mobile S3 not rooted and I don't have any additional tethering on my plan.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Very interesting, i use wifi tether for root users and after using for awhile i get a push message saying i need to stop tethering or it will be blocked, and then i recieve another saying it has been blocked, its a push message so im wondering if t-mobile has a app hidden inside the touchwiz rom to make sure it cant tether... sigh
Hi!
I just installed Foxfi app. on my phone. I noticed there is also an app. called "Foxfi AddOn" and according to the description it provides some optional features to the Foxfi application.
Has anyone installed this app? The reason I am asking this question is because I noticed that by agreeing to install this app., personal information is accessed ("general info about what you are doing with the phone, potentially including personal or private info").
The above quote I got when I press to "install" the app., so I would appreciate any feedback/advice on installing this app. Thanks!

[Q] Wifi tethering issue ATT version

This is the first time I have posted here so I do not know if I put this in the right area, sorry if I did not.
I have the ATT sgh-i467 note 8.0 and I have been trying to use wifi tethering. After doing some investigation, it turns out that ATT blocks tethering unless you pay them a tethering fee or buy the 5 GB plan, What BS that is. I have tried to find a work around and there does not seem to be one.
Has anyone found a wifi tether work around for the ATT note 8?

any way to auto kill allaccess?
Thanks to all on here, I was able to get my tether working. I was bummed though to find it disabled the AT&T data widget, as I used that to keep an eye on data used.
Well, I messed around and here is what I discovered...
I un-froze allaccess in Titanium and rebooted. After rebooting I was able to restore the allaccess widget (though tethering was again crippled). I then converted allaccess from a system app to a user app using Titanium, then forced closed it. I was then able to tether again, and the data widget still remained active. This works great until I reboot the unit, then I just need to force close the allaccess again to tether.
I am wondering if there is a way to automatically force close the program upon startup? This would allow use of the widget to monitor data without having to manually fc the allshare program.
Anyone know how to accomplish this?

I'm talking about unlimited on the ONE plus plan, you get 10GB's before throttled to 3G speed. I'm throttled now and I want to bypass it.
Worked for me.
But I am dealing with some throttling issues? Like If I speed test getting like 80^ 25v. But go to stream a movie. Slowww... and then went to torrent on laptop getting like 60kbs download. I saw something about changing the APN might help the torrenting but doesn't allow apn changes on Pixel 2 XL.
and on a small note I do have ONE Plus plan. and about 300 mb in so far.

I didn't find an official one but anyway here is the playstore link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pdanet&hl=en_US
I think the free version limits you to 5GB every time you connect, or something like that. I bought the paid key which is like $8, but no limits, so that's pretty cool, but kinda expensive lol.
I tried it this morning omw to work, and I didn't see much of a difference in speed. May have been the area I was in.
In still on the Galaxy S6 Edge and was considering getting a new phone to get around this... But based on what I'm reading, the limitation is the same with all phones? I may as well just throw an Oreo rom GS6e since it's still solid.. right?
Did you try the other workaround with the VPN tether app? That worked pretty well for me.

Not sure how it works for T-Mobile, but I know that Three in the UK detect tethering using the TTL. The way I understand it is the mobile operator looks at the TTL of packets going through the network. Windows default TTL is 128 hops, android is 64. Therefore any packets with a TTL of more than 64 hops is from a tethered device. However, it's possible to change this in windows, just set the TTL to 65, so that after the hop to your phone it's down to 64 and looks like a regular packet coming from your phone.
YMMV and it depends how your mobile operator, but whenever I tether my laptop it doesn't use any of my tethered data allowance.
To change TTL on windows, you just need to create a registry key <Insert usual 'messing with your registry is a bad idea if you don't know what you're doing' text>. Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
Create a new DWORD (32-bit) called 'DefaultTTL' and set its value to 65, then restart for good luck. If you want to undo this, you can either just change the value to 128 or delete the key.
