Problem installing latest 3.29.651.5 - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After rooting with unrevoked 3.21, i used titanium backup to uninstall some off the sprint bloatware that comes with the phone. I then tried to update to the latest ota w/fps fix (3.29.651.5) and i keep getting an android logo with an orange exclamation mark. Can anyone help me get this update? I've already unrooted via the stock 2.2 PC36IMG.

Did you run the s-on fix to completely unroot?

cannot install 3.29.651.5 update any ideas?

my phone couldn't update from 2.1 to 2.2 because i used the unrevoked method of rooting. in order for me to get 2.2 i updated my phone with the pc36img.zip file and then rooted again with unrevoked.
Now when i'm trying update from 2.2 with the new 3.29.651.5 update, the phone will have the triangle with a exclamation point.
Any ideas? thanks
You cant update to the new OTA with unrevoked forever. If you didn't use unrevoked forever, you will lose root access if you update it. You can flash a rom with the 3.29.651.5 update if you want.
thank you for the response, i didn't use unrevoked forever on my phone.
I'm trying to update to 3.29.651.5 with my unrevoked rooted 2.2 evo, but i get the triangle with the exclamation point. ideas?
Re-rooted, and grab yourself a custom rom from development section.

You need to have stock system and recovery to run the OTA

[WTF] S-OFF w/Rooted OTA and I can't delete bloateware w/Titanium Backup

I just got the OTA rooted update here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789913
I have S-OFF from Unrevoked Forever, and this version of the OTA is supposed to be rooted. But, I cannot delete bloatware. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Edit: It appears all I had to do was update busybox. All is good now.

[Q] newbie to rooting

First and foremost this site has opened up my eyes on taking the full benefits of rooting and more. I rooted my evo last night with the froyo 2.2 . I received an HTC Message stating there was a HTC update. If I install this update will it unroot my phone ? Should I never update the firmware or HTC updates ? Thanks in advance.

Do not accept the update. What you can do to get updated is flash a rooted pc36img.zip through hboot. That will update you completely (radios, hboot, kernel, rom) to the current OTA, without losing root. The pc36img.zip you want to use and instructions can be found in this thread. You will lose all your data so be sure to back it up with titanium or mybackup first so you can restore it later. It is also a good idea to do a nandroid backup through recovery before flashing anything.

[Q] Unroot using 3.70 update

Hello I used Unrevoked 3.21 to root my evo. It flashed the Unrevoked Forever so i was S-OFF. I have already flashed the S-ON tool and I can confirm that I am S-ON. I want to become unrooted. Can I use the latest OTA (3.70) to become unrooted? I tried the "Unrooted in two steps method using the PC36IMG" but when I reboot into Recovery it checks the image and says that the image is wrong. Basically I wanted to know if I could unroot by installing the latest OTA. By the way I am not running any custom firmware, I am using the Htc Evo 4g Froyo update and my hardware version is 003. By the way if I can use the latest OTA can someone provide me with a link to the latest OTA. Thanks
If you're already s-off then you should be able too. Manually check for updates to download. If nothing shows up I'll find you a link.

[Q] Hopelessly Stuck in 2.1 With Evo 4G

I am stuck in Stock "Firmware Version 2.1-update 1" with Software Number 1.47.651.1 and even though I constantly check for OTA updates, the phone says that there are no updates for my phone.
Here is how I got here: I got my Evo 4G a few days after it came out. I was an early adopter of Unrevoked and Unrevoked Forever (S-Off). Things were great. Eventually, an OTA slipped by and forced my phone into a boot loop. I was able to use Clockwork to restore one of my backups and then avoid further OTA's.
I decided that I wanted to go stock, and get to the newest OTA. I used the RUU method to get my phone back to its stock rom. Then, the phone found two OTA updates. I thought that it probably had to update in several steps instead of jumping right to the latest update, so I just accepted the first two OTA's that it found. Unfortunately, the phone will not find any more updates and I am stuck with 2.1 (1.47.651.1).
I also noticed that when I boot into recovery, there is no "recovery" there. I see the word recovery, but when I select recovery it takes me to a red triangle with an exclamation point in the middle. I tried to download and install the 2.3.3 OTA Rom by renaming it to update.zip and putting it on my sd card, but I got some errors and it would not install.
I wonder if having S-Off has anything to do with the phone refusing to find the newest OTA updates? Or maybe I need a new radio? But if I reverted all the weay back to stock, wouldn't all of this been taken care of during the RUU method?
If anyone can help me get to the newest official version of Android, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks very much!
You need to install a recovery, I suggest amon-ra, then download a rom and flash it through recovery. Sounds like you just don't have a recovery installed
We're comin from a pure power source.
But am I unrooted now that I went back to stock with the RUU? If so, can I flash a recovery?
Thanks!
once u get to the little evo with the exclamation point, hit volume up and power at the same time. It takes u to a stock recovery. Or just flash a custom recovery as said above as a PC36IMG.zip flash a custom rom and viola! Or the other method u can do is take it to a sprint store and have THEM run the stock 2.2 RUU, get you to 2.3.3 and you should be able to update to the OFFICIAL AOS but of course as with anything stock, you run the risk of losing full root. But I doubt it because I just rooted a stock evo with the latest 4.54 OTA update just fine. hope this helps. Good luck with any way you choose to go.
Whether you are s-off or s-on doesn't matter to run the latest 4. 54 ruu. Download it and run it. U will then have latest software. Then if ur not s-off go to revolutionary.io and get s-off'ed
