Being thick here but i cant find my answer..
ROM manager shows Clockwork Recovery as 2.5.0.7 but if i actually boot into recovery it is showing as 2.5.0.1??
How do i flash the new recovery so it actually uses it??.. Or is it not worth it??.. ie if it aint broke dont fix it??
Cheers
use unrEVOked 3.21 again and it'll flash the new version
Will it wipe all my stuff on the phone??.. Running DeFrost 4.4 with no issues at the moment.. so dont want to bugger it up if new recovery is not worth it?
I dont know, I only used 3.21...otherwise just use fake flash
Not really worth it if you're happy with it

no its just a recovery image it wont touch the way your phone is
Havent a clue how to use fake flash.. think i will leave it.. Appreciate replies
If you boot into Recovery via ROM Manager, you are using fake flash!
Essentially ROM manager sticks an update.zip file in the root of your SD card and reboots into recovery and "fake flashes" this file - essentially it runs your latest ClockworkMod Recovery, but it can't actually really flash to to the phone, which is why you need to use UnrEVOked.

ok so i've rooted my phone and i'm running leedroid. i have the clockwork recovery installed and have been running this rom for a few months now. I want to flash the amonra revocery as i believe it lets you format an ext3 partition where as clockwork only allows ext2. But i cant figure out how to flash it. people have said use unrevoked again to re-root your phone and just choose a custom recovery, but it wont successfully complete the root again a second time even if i DONT use my custom recovery image....any ideas? how can i do this?
I wanted to do the same thing. I simply re-rooted my phone with unrevoked !

Moved to Q&A as not development.
Hey guys and gals,
This is my first post and i need some help. Here's the story.
I rooted my phone a few weeks ago, everything went stunningly easy, and worked great. Clockworkmod recovery was installed (by unrevoked) at this time. While driving home I broke my phone's screen and had to get a replacement phone. Asurion had a phone to me within 18 hours (my word they're fast). I slapped the 16GB SD card from my first phone in and I was off and running.
So I have my new phone with my original 16GB SD card and set it up normally again. I wanted to wait a bit and get it set prior to rooting again. Tonight I rooted the phone with Unrevoked 3.21 as I did before. It went much faster than before. I now have S-Off but clockworkmod recovery is not on my hboot screen and recovery mode doesn't work at all. Just a black screen for about 15 seconds before loading into the OS.
Have I screwed up a one click root? I've tried a few things.
I used droid-life as a guide to help me root.
Phone Stats:
Droid Incredible
Asurion replacement
OS 2.2
radio 2.15.00.07.28
kernel 2.6.32.15-gb7b01d1
build 3.21.605.1 CL231334 release-keys
Although clockworkmod recovery isn't in Hboot the reflash tool still says "Recovery Image: ClockworkMod Recovery" on the bottom. I have tried renaming the clockworkmod folder on the SD card to see if it would create a new one, or boot into clockworkmod recovery after realizing the folder is not there.
I have also tried formatting my SD card and running the reflash tool again. Again no dice, no recovery mode.
I have tried unrevoked 3.21 after every change.
What have I done? what do I do? any suggestions?
Thanks for anybody and everybody's input. I appreciate it. I would like to start flashing roms but really dont want to mess with it if I dont have a recovery option.

Is it a complete download of the unrevoked tool? Sounds almost like the recovery package isn't there. Try redownloading unrevoked and run it again. Do you have root and Superuser app at least? If so, try downloading and running ROM Manager and tell it to flash Clockwork again. Still no dice, try telling it to flash RA recovery. And for the record, which screen do you have?
I wish I knew

thanks for the quick reply I will try that. Yes I have root and the superuser app.
I dont know how to tell which screen I have, but I was wondering the same thing. BoyGeniusReport says its incredibly hard to tell the difference and I haven't found were it says SLED vs AMOLED
Grrrr

Downloaded unrevoked 3.21 straight from unrevoked twice.
Tried the reflashing clockworkmod recovery, no dice.
Whats an RA recovery?

It's an alternate recovery. Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=758874
It's also the second to the last option in ROM Manager. Flash Alternate Recovery: RA_GNM Recovery v1.7.6
I actually like that one better. It was able to format my SD card correctly. I just miss the integration with ROM Manager.
Phew... It worked.
the alternate recovery worked.
now if I want to flash ROMs do I need to know anything in particular before doing so with the AMON_RA recovery tool.
I downloaded the a4d utility that I found when doing a search for AMON_RA on appbrain. It asks if I want to flash my phone to unlock my bootloader (and void my warranty, haha).
do I need to unlock my bootloader before flashing ROM's
I like the sense UI. thats all I have actually used. Is there anything better? what are suggested, STABLE, ROMs/kernels for the DInc? or should I stay "stock 2.2 rooted"?

Uncommon sense with king kernel bfs # 5 is as good or better than stock.
Btw. Hboot only shows recovery, not clockwork recovery. Did you ever try selecting recovery from hboot?

and still has all the capabilities of stock 2.2 (GPS, WIFI Tether, etc), I know that was a problem at one point. I assume/hope all has been fixed with those issues.
With flashing ROMs. do Custom ROM's have the bloatwear (CityID) removed?

Uncommon sense has some of it removed. Some of it you can remove yourself. It's the only rom I've donated to and had on my phone more than two days.
Just be careful if removing stuff. Some of it has other dependencies. There are guides on how to remove things safely without breaking other functionality.
Also do a backup first. I'm not sure how amon ra works, but it must be in there somewhere.

It is. In the main menu, just like Clockwork
So I definitely have recovery with the amon_RA 1.7.6 alternative recovery with the ROM manager. but from what I have read I can no longer use ROM manager to flash.
Now I have been searching for information/instructions on how to use AMON_RA but have come up short, at least recently written stuff. I can find a ton of information about clockworkmod which I assume is because of Unrevoked 3.21.
PonsAsinorem as you said you miss the integration of ROM manager. I really want to use ROM manager.
I read somewhere in XDA that people were having trouble using clockworkmod and ROM manager and it could be because of a corrupted cache. there were some LIMITED instructions about using ADB to fix it but I wasn't completely understanding them.
I think my problem is spawning from using my old SD card and maybe a corrupted cache. I have made a back up using Amon_RA (actually two).
Does anyone think that completely formatting my SD card (after moving my backups to my MAC) and factory restoring my phone. then reflashed using unrevoked 3.21, or reflashed clockworkmod recovery using rom manager would work to solve my problem with clockworkmod recovery?
I would have backups if it didn't work. I would just have to restore the Amon_RA backup if I screwed anything up or wanted my SD card back... Right?
Thanks for all the help so far.

Dirtpan. you're a lifesaver thanks for pointing me at this. saved clockwork for me. All this time, its because I have the new SLCD screen as opposed to the AMOLED screen.
For the record, my wife has an AMOLED screen and I an SLCD. I can see no discernible difference.
Thanks again everybody for the help.

i have an evo that i rooted... and flashed clockworkmod.. newest.. then i tryied installing a sense HD Rom but it just installs the boot splash screen and after the animation its just a lit black screen... so i decided to flash RA recovery from Rom manager and i forgot to nand back up.. i flashed echoHD Rom and same thing it just booted the animation and thats it.. it dosnt load the Rom.. my main problem is that im trying to go back to stock because i forgot to backup.. but i dont know which pc36img.zip file to get... my phone is S-OFF, 2.10, android 2.2, and some 3.6 or 3.7 thing.. and version 003.. please help.. some one direct me to the .zip download to flash from recovery to go back to stock.. at least from there i can either root again if i loose it or install rom manager and restore from my previous restores.. oh yea.. i forgot to mention that.. i have 2 restore saved in my SD but from clockworkmod recovery.. and dont work when trying to restore with RA.. please help...
i downloaded this .zip... withh this one work?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=791019
yeah you can't go from clockwork to amon ra, and use the same backups. you have to download rom manager again and flash back to CW then you can boot into recovery and you'll be able to access your backups. As far as un-rooting, once you are rooted you should be good, have you tried wiping all data and formatting your cache before flashing? if not that may be a good place to start, once rooted as long as you can access your recovery, i would just move forward and find a good Rom that works well with your device. I run MIUI .1.21.2 with 1.6 cfs sbc kernel and it runs amazing on my 003 hardware device
thanks... well i managed to recover flashing that .zip and im now restoring to the one i had saved from clockworkmod... soo im very happr.. i was scared out of my life...
now about those roms... ive triedflashing as i said the sense HD roms but no luck.. what could be the problem.. are there any out there that will work for my type of devive with these new updates...?
i dont really like the muiu rom.. im obsessed with the sense HD type that has the skins and stuff like that.. i hope when the thunderbolt from verizon comes out .. since its cdma someone will port its sense HD to the evo..
What happens when you flash those specific ROMs? Tried changing around your kernel/radio combination? Sometimes it takes a little tweaking to get it running stable.
As far as boot sticking on the boot animation, you have to wipe data and dalvik-cache before installing
I am stuck on clockword mod. I can get into recovery. I can even mount my sd and add new ROMS, just cant get them to install. Pretty new at this so how can i flash ra recovery from clockwork mod and get it to run instead of clockwork?
thanks for taking the time
Best way to flash a recovery is through the bootloader, you can find the PC36IMG needed for amon ra and instructions on how to do it in his thread here.
If you don't have a sd card reader handy and are on a PC you can do it over usb too. Just download the tools zip from the autoroot thread in my sig and you'll see a file called FlashZip. Amon ra is included with it and running that will let you install any pc36img files in the same folder as it.
Now I get a phone with a triangle and an exclamation mark. I feel like throwing this phone into the wall!!!
Wooooooosaaaaaa!
that means you are in the stock recovery and dont have unrevoked or amonra
What do I do????

sorry i didnt mean unrevoked i ment clockwork can you boot in to bootloader? if so does it say s off and if it does say s off then you need to put the amonra on ur sd card and flash it as the link says :/ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026 and id say if that doesnt work maybe download a ruu and run it then reroot lol but that should be the last thing you need to try

As ckoadiyn pointed out that's the stock recovery, you probably grabbed the wrong pc36img. All you have to do is find the right one for the recovery you want and flash it.
thanks guys! Took out my EVO sdcard put in into my husbands DROID2 and was to get RA RECOVERY & Sprints 3.70 RUU? Do I run as as zip or will it run like RUU for the Touch Diamond??

ok now you have ra recovery correct? flash that through the bootloader (hboot)
that will give you custom recovery and you can go here and get this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830153&highlight=sprint+lovers and once you got that on the sd card you can just go in to the recovery and flash from zip
YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!!
Got My Stock (rooted) Rom back!
It's No Virus, but gatdamn my phone is working so no complaints here!!!
I'm a bit leery now & am wondering is it safe to go back to what was working for me(Virus Sense 3.0 B1.1.2)......, I got lured by the eye candy (TB Fusion) & decided to try what I clearly read was a stable Sense 3.0!
My question is basically...., should I try to reflash B1.1.2?

If going from one rom to another, make sure you do a full wipe before flashing the new one. Like ckoadiyn said, do a NAND back-up first in case something goes wrong.
ckoadiyn & rugedraw thanks for all you help! I'm back on Virus & it's like gravy! You guys rock!!!
Glad to see you got it figured out, man.
Best ClockWork Rom Manager Version For Desire?
okay i used the latest original untouched once yesterday installed perfectly, however after doing a backup it crashed on htc start up loop. i opened recovery and re flashed my backup all worked okay but am now wondering what if something happens when installing a custom rom. what is the best version to use.
thanks
Easiest, and safest way to flash is via your recovery from boot (ClockworkMod/AmonRa etc). ROM Manager itself has seen many issues recently and many people advise to stay clear of it until it's totally stable.

ROM Manager is made by ClockworkMod devs. It's an application, a standalone app whereas ClockworkMod is a recovery and this is what you would use to flash the ROM. If you have ClockworkMod as your recovery you flash a new ROM using this procedure:
Do this first to backup your existing ROM in case anything goes wrong.
Then do this to flash your new recovery.
Hopefully everything should go okay.
EDIT: You can leave ROM Manager where it is, it won't affect anything you do in the above procedures and you may find that your new ROM doesn't package it anyway so you won't have it anyway.

I've got 4.2.0.2 but I can't comment because I've not used it yet but I know I successfully partitioned my SD to ext3 using the version you mention (only because I couldn't get gparted to work).
