I've had my captivate for 1 week and the top glossy part is covered in scratches and small spots. Guess what, it was in the Body Glove case the whole time! Dust and stuff gets trapped underneath the stupid rubber case and then is contained underneath and will happilly move around and scratch the hell out of your beloved device.
Now i'm just going naked with no case and the top of my machine is scratched. I'm pretty upset because this was an ATT case and it was expensive.
Whatever. goes to show there's no perfect case and the best is to go naked OR go with a slip case. But I just wanted to warn the rest of you the body glove case is not that great.
I can attest to your claim, as I also had the AT&T Body Glove case and noticed scratches all along the top rim of the phone. Kinda saddening, but oh well.
Let us weep together brother!
wow thanks for the heads up
I figured that was relatively all cases that formed a tight seal with the phone. I know my Amzer case is the same, as was the case I had for my iPhone. I just make sure I have a screen protector over the screen so that it "scratches" the protector intead of the screen.
Hmm, I've had mine since mid-August, and not nary a mark anywhere on my cappy.
I recently switched from the Body Glove to a TPU case and noticed scratches at the top of my phone too!!! Bummer

I have had my case for 2 monts and no scratches.
i keep my phone in my pocket and work in a dusty enviromenty.
p.s. I have the body glove case
This is why I put a skin on any of my phones before putting it in a case.
I ordered one of those "free" stealth guard skins, despite their reviews, because its cheap and it covers the phone. I'm not gonna put it on 'til Otterbox comes out with their cases, and when I get mine, i'll throw the skin on and then put it in the case. Not concerned with the quality of them (stealth guard) too much especially if its just going to be inside another case. It's more there for the extra protection factor...
I currently don't have anything on the phone at all right now, and have been lucky that there's no scratches or marks *yet* on it...hopefully Obox will get their act together and get the cases out soon, 'cause I can't wait!

I bought mine and had it shipped to the UK so not an option.
I had a completely differenet issue with the Body Glove case. When I had it on my captivate it would interfere with my touch inputs. This would only start after having the case on the phone for a few days and then all of a sudden I couldn't type anything and my touch inputs were completely off. As soon as I took the case off it worked like normal again, put the case back on and it still worked normal for a few days again. I just stopped using the case and am waiting for my Zagg total protection
I've got the Ghost Armor skin and it's pretty decent however the corners are peeling away, I've just been lazy and don't want to go back to the mall store to get new corner pieces put on.
Add to that the Verizon Droid X leather case and it's not too bad overall. You can even put the phone back into the droid X case with headphones plugged in.
I've had my Captivate and the Body Glove case from the AT&T store for the last 2-3 days now, no scratches, everything fits perfectly, and no issues at all. I love this case..
oh wow...
i just took off my body glove and the top and bottom of hte phone are scratched up pretty badly
Every few days I take the case off, clean the interior with screen cleaner spray and a lint free cloth. Then I clean the Captivate with a fresh cloth and put it back in the case.
So far no scratches at all.
I don't think this is a case you can just put on and forget about. It fits too tight and sooner or later dirt and grit will get inside and wear away at the phones finish, especially if you put the phone directly in your pocket.
Just clean the interior of the case every few days however and the case works fine.
Ive had the bodyglove case on for well over a month with no issues. I wonder if they recently changed the design or materials they use to manufacture it.
I have no scratches or input issues.

I have scratches on mine too, oh well, it covers it up so I don't really care.
I've had mine on over a month and mine is great w/o any scratches. I've had to take it off a couple times to flash sre. Only problem is that it's a little looser than it was before. Just ordered more tpu cases on ebay.
Mine is too the body glove sucks.

Hey guys, I was able to snap a quick picture of the case that a store I went to was selling. Seems to be different than what I've heard from others, but this what I was able to get a hold of. Sorry for the quality, it was taking on my dying Moto Q9h.
was thata hard case? How much for it?
There were two at the store I went to, they had a Carbon looking gel case for $24.95 (Looks like the one pictured above) and another, I think it was plastic, clear case for $29.95 Almost bought the gel but I want to wait for Seidio to come out with theirs.

That one was $29.95, and it definitely looked plastic from what I could tell, so that lines up with that second one you were saying.
I don't see it on their website:

Look what I found:

What does everyone think of that?
Looks nice, unfortunately it doesn't ship till 8/24. I HOPE Seidio releases theres before that. I'm willing to wait so long for one. I'm not liking carrying it around "naked".
Looks nice from the pictures. And better yet, IT HIDES THE AT&T LOGO

Did the same thing. My friend got the T-Mobile version phone and the screen protectors they have make the screen look grainy.
I will wait for bestskinsever or some other company to make them, until then I must be very careful with it.
I got the rubber gel case - looks nice, is very thin, doesn't add much bulk at all, and feels good in the hand. If you want to listen to music with the device's speaker, you can put it face-down so the speaker isn't muffled, and the case keeps the screen from touching the tabletop surface. I'd recommend it!
guys i hope you didnt throw away that screenprotector that came pre-applied to the phone. You know, the really annoying one that reads: Texting n Driving, it can wait...
So thats a pretty good cover right? Looks like it doesn't degrade image quality at all.. Got me to thinking, man this would be ideal if it didn't have these huge dumb letters over the whole screen.
So I bust out some acetone (nail polish remover) and a q tip. I soaked the head of the q tip and rubbed it over the letters on the screen protector. Re applied acetone to the q tip a few times in the process. I let the acetone sit on the letters for about 30 seconds and then wiped it off with a cotton wipe. Be careful when rubbing it off so that it doesn't runoff the screen protector onto the edge of the screen. ie: dont wipe, soak it up. I waited about 10 min after drying it off with that cotton ball and then used my nail to scratch off the letters. I had to re apply acetone once more on tough spots but now i have a free good looking screen protector to hold me over .
I bought the Body Glove case. As someone else stated it doesn't add much bulk at all and fits pretty snug against the phone. I actually dropped my phone this morning while rushing to work. It fell to the concrete, hit the corners, and then landed on the face. Luckily the case is a tad bit raised from the screen not allowing the screen to impact. No damage to the phone and the case has one tiny scratch.

I just got my Incipio Feather in the mail, and I must say I am very let down. When I looked at the picture on the website, I really thought that the case was going to wrap around the front but it does not. In all fairness, I did look at the picture again and it doesn't wrap around in it like I thought it did. The picture is very deceiving, the way they shade the Evo makes it look like the case wraps around, at least to me it does. Anyways...
The Incipio is a lot thicker than the Barely There, and doesn't come up as high on the sides either. That actually makes it feel rather awkward in the hand because there is a very pronounced lip around the whole phone. Also, the Incipio case has a full cutout, like a bite, from the front of the case for the volume rocker whereas the Barely There has a rectangular hole and covers the plastic in front of the rocker.
The Incipio also provides far less protection for the camera lens. With the Barely There, the lens is completely protected, it covers the edge of the glass, fully recessing the lens into the case. It has a separate cutout for the flash, lens, and speaker. The Incipio just has one gaping hole for all three to share.
My biggest complaint about the Incipio is that because it doesn't come up all the way around the sides, the face of the Evo sticks out from it and consequently the corners are not fully protected. If this thing takes a tumble on to concrete, there is a good chance your corner could still get scratched. With the Barely There case, while still not very protective, at least your corners won't get beat up.
The only positive about the Incipio is that I like the way the material feels better than the Barely There. It has a softer, almost velvety finish to it. The Barely There still has a nice rubberized texture to it, just not as nice as the Incipio's.
I see no reason at all to purchase the Incipio case when you can buy the Barely There case instead. The Barely There is thinner, feels more comfortable in the hand, and provides more coverage/protection. I am sticking with my Barely There case and will probably give the Incipio away.
Casemate Barely There
Incipio Feather
Both cases cost $19.99.
Thanks for the review ... appreciate it. Have you looked at the other Case Mate Evo case that is two part (Tough Case)? Just wondering about the protection and quality.
No I haven't, at least not in person. I'm sure it's a great case, and I know other people have had good experiences with it, but I personally don't like the way it looks compared to the OB Commuter case or the Seidio Active Limited, and I already have both of those.

Couple of quick questions for you ... since you have both. I had the Seidio Active Limited from Amazon, really liked the feel of it, but the plastic back began to peel off. I didn't replace it with another ... afraid the same thing would happen. Any issues for you? So I've been using the Otter Box Impact case, but since I keep my phone in my front pocket ... it can be a lint magnet. If you don't mind ... tell me about your experience with the Commuter case from OB. Thanks.

I have the exact same issue as you with the Seidio. I have actually gone through 3 of them now, and they all started peeling within a week. The first one I had one of the tabs broke off while putting the case on. It's a shame that the build quality is so crappy on them because I really like the design, and I think it's a little more rugged than the OB Commuter. Not by much though, it just has thicker silicone.
My only complaint about the Commuter, and I know a lot of people share the same feeling, is that the cover for the charging and HDMI ports was poorly designed. It is a pain to get it closed, and it never stays in place for very long. Also, the way they cut the silicone for that cover, it is subject to tearing. Mine hasn't torn, and neither has my buddy's, but I know some people have had that issue. The good news is that Otterbox, unlike Seidio, has no problem whatsoever sending out a replacement case if by some chance that piece tears off, or any other defect for that matter. Overall I think it is a great case and I use it regularly, and even with the small issue of that cover, I can still recommend it to people.
Thank you ... I'm thinking about trying the "Barely There" since I'm an "in pocket" guy.
You can barely tell that there is a case on the phone with the Barely There, hence the name. If you're an in pocket guy, then that is definitely the case you want. I use it way more than all my other cases combined.
get the barely there case, i have it and love it, and as they say, its hardly noticable. plus case-mate came out with a full frontal screen cover, so you have case protection on back and sides and a full screen cover to cover the remaining parts

You said my words exactly. I too am very let down with the Incipio Feather case. I also thought that it would at least have a lip that came over the front edge but nothing. I dropped my phone on the carpet(fortunately it was carpet) and it popped right out of the case. If you want protection I don't think this is the case to use. They could have done much better. I would have preferred one of the Incipio NGP cases to this thing.
I've been using the Barely There case for almost 2 months. I love the feel of it. The material holds well. The screen protector it came with is awesome. I hated the way stealthguards and invisible shield felt on the glass. The screen protector that the Barely There came with feels just like glass when it's on.
The only thing is that this case is just to protect against scratches and minor drops on carpet maybe. I dropped it once on concrete and the case flew off and I have a small dent on the top front corner of my Evo.
This is my experience exactly

Barely there cases are counter-intuitive. If you want to protect a case against impact should you drop it, the case needs to be heavy enough to absorb most of the impact itself and not the phone. These barely there cases may protect from scratches on the phone body but that's it. So I guess you can safely slide the phone around on your desk but don't drop it.

the bottom flap on my commuter stays in place fine, also fits great in your pocket, unless your female and wear them skin tight the barely there doesn't have any lay on the table protection for the front glass, which is just too risky in my opinion.

Thanks, just order it. I had the ID case for the iPhone from them and that thing took a beating and never gave up. Hope to expect the same from them again
I still think the Otterbox Commuter is the best case out there. It doesn't add that much bulk, feels sturdy and protects like none other. Well worth the money.
so I just bought the Otterbox Defender for my Atrix 4G, and for some reason, on the top left corner, if I squeeze it, I feel a little give, of maybe like half a millimeter, but IDK if that means its defective or what? Also, whats a good way to clean a screen cloth to get the dust off? I love this thing, and my screen is very clean but there is like one or two small specks of dust I cannot stand looking at.
It will eventually get stretched out more and more as you use it. That's one of the biggest flaws of the Otterbox Defender.
My wife has had it for about a month and she's completely given up on it, as it's almost impossible (for her) to use the fingerprint scanner, and because of how she used to tug on the silicon protecting the charging port, the bottom is all stretched out too. YMMV.
Hope this helps...

@ _Alex_ : The second link I posted for the Seidio Active case would suit your wife very well. That case does not hinder the fingerprint scanner at all, and its still offers a reasonably good amount of protection. Its also available with a holster. (I do not have the holster so I can't comment on it) I do love the case though. I've dropped my Atrix twice from about 4ft up (im a big guy, 6'4" tall) onto concrete, once landing on its side, the second face down. No damage to my Atrix at all, barely scratched the silicone skin of the case (its a two piece case, silicone case with a skeletal snap-on piece for extra strength and corner protection).
Honestly I have the defender and love it I use the clip everyday and it has a bit of play like yours but I haven't had any streaching and I've had it for a little over a month. I sometimes gwt trouble with the fingerprint reader but if you dont use it than that dosnt matter but I am defanitly trying out that upcoming ballistics case

I have the defender too. I have the same little problem in the top left corner too! The rubber part hasn't stretched for me, however.

does anyone know if its easy to cut out their screen protector? Its just that when I use it, I feel like I'm using the Blackberry Storm, like I slightly push more than normal, and it takes away accuracy when typing. Should I keep the Defender or just get the candyshell Speck and a separate screen protector?
I'm on my second silicone part. I emailed them about the port cover corner getting stretched out and they sent me a new one. The new one looks just like the old one already. Took maybe two weeks for it to start popping out again.

Ugh my defenders head phone door came off the phone recently just a confirmation of this problem sadly i would have thought it would have happened to the usb flap first being that i dont use headphones that often. I dont know if i should try to get them to send be a new silicon part out now that I got a body glove case today Seems to be a good alternative to this the grip on the case is nice and theres an option to have aclip on the back for a belt clip that comes with it Witch would be good if you used the Defender holster but you can replace the clip with circle shaped peace that finishes the case only thing that might be bad is there is no protection for the ports. I will say that it being all in one layer unlike the plastic and silicon on the defender means that there is no creekiness that i some time felt on my defender. it setill clips together on the front and back similar to the defender plastic layer though without a built in screen protector.
if anyone is looking for one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154013

Currently rocking the Incipio DualPro and I like it a lot. Phone is very snug and safe, buttons are easy to operate. No problems whatsoever with charging or audio cable.
I had mine in one of these that I bought at Fry's dropped from table to floor and my screen cracked not even 14 days with the device. Called got insurance and then got new phone lol still out $130 for the deductible. I had the standard not the Dual Pro. I am using a Rock on my new one now, same feel and width but just a tad bigger in front as if it falls screen first it has a little extra lip that the lip will hit and not screen.
I'm running this case as well. Provides good protection without the crazy bulk added by other double cases.

Wait... so you were unlucky enough to break your phone dropping it while IN a good case, and for your replacement phone you chose to use an even flimsier thin polycarb case?! Why? Thought you would've learned your lesson and gone for something beefier like otterbox or trident kraken (or maybe the plan is you'll just be more lucky & careful now? )

I Just got this case and i have to say that it is very good. it has a soft grip. the white does attract dirt though.

I really like this case too. I tried a Casemate barely there and found it poor as it didn't cover enough of the device, and the bottom of the phone cover was really rough! (it gave me a boo boo finger - as i tend to hold the phone right in that particular spot...go figure.) This holder does not have the same issues. It covers all corners, the finish is gorgeous, and no rough edges.
hi guys
i have been comparing these two products for a quite some time and i cannot give my final decision to which product should i buy. i am looking for a case that has a front face cover. and i found the ballistic maxx and otterbox defender. but what makes me think twice between these product is the comes with screen protector. these protector is quite think and most likely it will ruin the colors of my S3's screen. i have seen it in some product reviews posted by youtube users. the screen becomes glary. and the second thing that makes me think twice is, if i remove the screen protector, will my S3 shake around inside the case if i dont use the screen protector?
i tried contacting the customer support of otterbox they said they cannot answer my concern. and for ballistic they told me i can still use the case even if i dont use the screen protector, but i still do not understand what they really meant. and they did not gave me a straight answer to my question on what will really happen if i did not use their product's screen protector.
now i would like to ask your personal opinion about these two products, which is better? and if you guys did not use the comes with screen protector will your S3 shake around inside the case? and lastly i am just looking for a case that has a front cover. i dont really like the flip cover cases.
thanks
From what I read about the defender taking out the screen protector does not affect the snugg-ness of the phone and case.
I have the trident kraken that came with a removable screen protector, that I decided but to use.

I know how you feel, i looked at both those cases and went with the Trident Kraken. Provides the same level of protection and the kickstand is a bonus. Second choice would be the otterbox.

I personally hated the otter box, sold it as soon as I got the chance. I kept the maxx and it's the case I go for when I need a holster.
I took the screen protector off of my defender with no fit issues. I stopped using it because it squeeks so much. When you hold the phone. This may be due to extra flexing from the removed screen protector as it is rigid and glued in.
The otterbox is an awesome case, the only thing I hate is that the outer silicone layer always stretches out. The defender for my GS3 streched out after 2 months...

I think it's just the case in general. My screen protector is still in tact and it squeaks like no other.
I'm tempted to get a new case, but can't decide. I've narrowed it down to the SG MAXX, Commuter, Kraken, PX260, and the Dualtek.

I got the dualtek case yesterday, it's a really nice case. I just wish there was a compatible holster for it.

I have both cases mentioned in OP. The included screen covers are garbage. Make the screen look like crap plus particles such as sand, dirt (I am in construction field) and so on can get behind protector and scratch screen.
Standard zagg and otterbox working well for me. Zagg HD seemed to thin and marked up easy om my pocket. Otter box laps over the edge of the zagg, which so far has kept the edge from peeling on me which is a common problem for me and my use.
Ballastic has great rubber corners for drop protection but the otter box is easier to slip in and out of pocket and my preferred case.

I also have both cases described in OP and have to agree to a point, the screen protectors make the screen look terrible. I went with the Ballistic for a couple reasons. 1. The Ballistic seems to slide in and out of my pocket easier (probably because it has more smooth surface than the Defender). 2. The belt clip seems more comfortable to me. The Defender belt clip seemed to sit higher on me which would gouge my hip. Not cool. 3. I got the Defender used when I bought my phone and the rubber on it seems a little loose. I don't think this will happen with the Ballistic mainly because my wife has one on her Note and it's help up extremly well. 3. I got my Ballistic Maxx on ebay for $30 in the color I wanted and I thought that was a good price. Now I need to ditch this screen protector and get a nice one.
I too have both cases. I did/don't use any of the screen protectors that came with it. As for OP, it really depends what you're trying to get out of it. What's your average day like? do you work in an office? go to school? work in construction? I am a process engineer and i'm in and out of food plants and i pull my phone out to snap pictures at least 4 times a day on a daily basis for an hour or so. With that being said I NEED the protection because I have dropped it a few times. I'm currently using the Ballastic without the clip, i just hold it in my pocket. The otterbox is a bit bulkier for me and it slips easy (from hand and in and out of pocket). The ballistic on the other hand, doesn't. It gives you good grip, and isn't a pain for me to pull out of my pockets (i wear dickies for work and rvca romero ii jeans when i'm out and about or jordan basketball shorts when i feel like bumming it). I like the grip because it doesn't slip out of my pockets easily when i wear basketball shorts as the ottorbox did. HOWEVER, be warned that it does pull lint easily. It's not alot where you'll get a hairball when you pull it out of your pockets but it is there. Overall, I'm sticking with the ballastic because it offers great drop protection (as does the OB), but with the corners I personally feel it's more secure and it's not as bulky as people say it is. I'll post up pictures when i get the chance.
