Phone freeze after Partition by ROM Manager > - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've just downloaded ROM Manager & tried to partition my SD card but failed.
What I did:
In Rom Manager,
1. Partition SD Card. It asked to install something. I chose OK.
2. Ext Size 512MB
3. Swap Size 0MB
OK
Then the screen went black with a sign /!\ & the little grean Android guy.
I waited for a long long time, nothing happened.
I hit the power button & it show the following:
(I could move up & down with volume button, but hitting the power button didn't help, so I had to pull out the battery. The phone starts ok...)
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.7
- reboot system now
- apply sdcard:update.zip
- wipe cache partition
- install zip from sdcard
- backup and restore

ClockwrokMod Recovery v2.5.0.7

How do I get the A2SD+
How do I partition the SD card please?
Thanks,
D

My phone is running Froyo 2.2 OTA 2.10.405.2
& Rooted by Unrevoked 3.21.
The reason I rooted the phone mainly to get the apps to SD card.
There's a zip file called recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.zip in:
D:\clockworkmod\download\koush.tandtgaming.com\recoveries
Should I rename it to update.zip, then run Partition SD Card again?
How do I do that from here please?
Thanks,
D

Mate,
I had the same issue, I run "flash clockworkMod Recovery" the first option in Rom Manager, and then I ran the "Partition SD Card" option again, and everything worked ok.
Thanks

thewarchild,
it works. wow. Thanks a lot.

Same problem. I do not see my ROM backup and don't want to continue root till I have a copy. Any help?

Had the same issue but looks to be resolved no by following the steps. Can I ask what the swap file should be set to ? and how do I go about adding extra partitions that some of the new roms need ?

perhaps something was corrupted in the copying process over to your new card. try putting the zip (verified not corrupt, check the md5) on again.
also verify that you are not putting on a file named something.zip.zip
if you have file extensions hidden in windows, and it still says .zip, that means you have a file with an extra .zip on the end of it.
Hi guys. I hate to open an old thread, but figured it was the lesser of 2 evils with the other option being to create a new one.
I am suffering the same problem as the OP, with the slight difference that my issue is solely related to the leedroid rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768703
I can safely flash all my nandroid backup roms from clockwork, I can flash the modaco r9 rom i had on there previously. I can flash all the themed zips I have downloaded in anticipation of getting leedroid up and running (they don't work make any difference to my existing rom due to not having leedroid, but they flash fine and then i nandroid after since I was just flashing them to check flashing was working).
The issue is when i try to flash leedroid it just says bad zip. I've downloaded it 4 times, both direct from dropbox and via torrents. I've checked with md5 checker and it's fine. I've unzipped it myself to verify the integrity. I've renamed it to remove the period thinking it might be an extension issue. I've toggled the check signature setting thing. I've run a full file system check on the fat32 partition of my sdcard, i've let it do a full bad sector scan. I'm literally out of ideas.
Edit: In case others stumble upon this, the solution for me was to scrap the partitions on my SD card and start over. I used the proper sdformatter from the official sdcard site to create a FAT partition using up the entire disk, then used gparted to resize that partition leaving 512mb at the end to fit my ext3 in there. The official sdcard formatter leaves 4mb of unallocated space at the start of the disk, I left this there as I didn't want to mess with it. Once my new partitions were setup, I can again flash ROMS from the sdcard. So although there was a proper FAT32 partition on there previously that seemed to be working fine, for some reason it wasn't.

same problem,,pls could anybody have an idea how can it be fix??pls...thanks,,,cant flash any rom from sd card,,
SOLVED.
If you get the message: “Can’t Open /sdcard/******.zip (bad)” when installing:
-Extract the SD, format in computer(fat32)
-copy the .zip in fresh sd
-boot with xRecovery and install.
-reboot
-(may be you get a frozen boot, so do:
-reboot with xRecovery
-wipe full reboot
-Everything’s ok!!

I just encountered this problem a couple days ago. I had to physically take the card out of the phone, put it in a card reader, and then mount the card reader in my pc. I used Windows to format the card to FAT32 (that will erase everything). Once I formatted, the phone was able to read the sd card just fine again.

[Q] Rooted Desire stuck on htc logo after trying to make a partition.

I have a rooted desire and I was trying to partition the sd card and it rebooted and since then hasn't been able to pass the screen. I've tried to search for answers but here is some info
-I bought the phone unlocked and rooted so I don't have a gold card
-I tried pressing the back button and then power but the "reboot" option doesn't work
-I also tried "clear storage" to factory reset and it still doesn't load past that screen
-When I choose "recovery" sometimes it loads up my CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY page but I don't know what I can do from there.
Please help!
Thanks!
Reese
Ok if can enter recovery no problem, try wipe data in recovery and reboot, if that doesn't work, did u have an nand backup? Restore it, or dw the same or a new rom and install it threw recovery...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
How can I put a new rom without a gold card? Can I just put it on my SD and instal that way?
I tried doing wipe and it didn't help and no I don't have a NANd backup
Gold card is only needed to install stock rom´s...
Look for a rom that u like, download the zip file to the SDcard, and install it threw recovery...
Thank you!
I'll try that out.
So I'll just need to name the new rom update.zip and then install through recovery?
I'll give that a try!
Yes u can rename it to update.zip or just choose install from sdcard and choose the zip file u want..
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
It worked!
Since you're so smart, do you know how to easily create an EXT on the SD card?
Thanks
Reese
Not that "smart" interested.. lol
U can find everything i told here in xda..
The easyest way to partition your sdcard is threw rom manager, download the app for free threw market, this is the easyest way to backup/Restore and install roms..

I tried doing it through the ROM manager already but all it does it reboot my system and then I get the android with a ! and when I click power it displays CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY and I see this:
ClockworkMod Recovery v.2.5.0.1
finding update package...
opening update package...
verifying update package..
E: failed to see in /cache/update.zip (invalid argument)
E:signature verification failed
installation aborted
It gives this to me everytime. Maybe something is wrong with Rom Manager?
It's a 4GB card Class 4

weird,
never had problems with rom manager,
do u have sd adapter?
try and format the card threw windows/linux, format type FAT32, or if u have another phone like a nokia format the SDcard in that phone, had some problems with the SDcard, not recognized in Desire, format it with an Nokia, and then the SD is readble again in my Desire, then with RM, partitioned the card

[Q] Does my SD card have to be a goldcard before I can partition it?

I'm trying to partition my sd card so i can install one of the senseHD roms, but when i use rom manager, the device restarts and i get a black screen with an explanation (inside a white triangle) and a little green android robot.
Could it be becuase this 8gb card isnt a goldcard? (I have a seperate 1gb card that i use when I need)
is there any other way to partition the card or possibly a way to do it within windows using a hard drive partition manager/explorer program?
Also, I noticed there isnt an option inside recovery to partition the sd card. I'm using clockworkMod recovery v2.5.0.7. Is there a more up to date version?
This is the log i get:
Finding update package...
opening update package...
verifying update package...
E: failed to seek in /cache/update.zip (invalid argument)
E: Signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Any help will be much appreciated.
PS, since rooting I've been using Leedroids no A2SD roms and havent had to partition
When you get the /!\(in recovery), press the back key or just boot in to recovery. In recovery go to "install zip from sd card" there is a option to toggle the signature verification, toggle this. It should say signature verification disabled. Reboot and you should be able to partition your sd cart trough Rom Manager.
Next time post this under questions since this is a question and not development.

Its already disabled. I enabled it and disabled it again but it still wont let me go beyond the /!\.
Any ideas as to why?
ROM manager sometimes has problems partitioning, you could try using the apps2sd guide in my ultimate guide to root.
Also - thread reported for being in the wrong section and a 'donate to me' button? Seriously...

Re the donate button, I was just filling out the missing info on my profile page - I didnt know it would place a sign on my posts asking for donations.

Used Hboot and unrevoked, dl. Rom manager and flashed with ClockwordMOD.

Last thing I know is to clear cache in rom manager and flash recovery again, also in rom manager. Then try again.

Thanks that did it....could see it formating!
That worked for me too, thanks...
Well I have been interested in creating an ext 3 partition on my SD card for a while, but shiied away from doing it because it all seemed too complicated. But this morning I read in one of LeeDroid's threads that I should try it through ROM Manager. I had the same result mentioned earlier in this thread - ! + Android.
So I when I saw that it could be fixed by clearing the cache in ROM Manager, etc, I tried that. Well that seemed to work but now when it tries to boot, it takes 10 minutes before I pull out the battery in frustration.
Have I "bricked" it or can I recover from here? I don't seem to be able to get back into recovery mode at all.
Please help!!!
Does your phone boot? If yes you can try to to clear the cache again and the reflash CWM from Rom Manager. Otherwise you can try to delete the update.zip (should only be a couple of Mb otherwise it's a rom) from the sd and replace it with this one.
And if you are already S-off, which i don't think you are nor recommend you to do, you can flash it via fastboot.
I should also have mentioned earlier that I am running a LeeDroid ROM v 2.2e. Since my last post, I re-formatted the SD card and restored my sd card copy to it, so all that data should be intact again.
It booted normally but I noticed that I had a message saying that the SD was "safe to remove". I tried to mount the sd card, but that didn't work. So I then thought I should clear all data. So I rebooted into Recovery mode, deleted all data including Dalvik. Then rebooted. Unfortunately it now goes into a loop. It gets through the old Telstra splash screen, then makes its Android noise, goes through all the checks and says "Success", then goes into the same loop again.
Any suggestions??
When I am in Recovery mode, I can see no reference to the "signature verification" functionality. Where can I find it?
By the way, I have now updated to the LeeDroid 2.3 ROM with the patch applied. Currently I have a blank SD formatted card. When I try to format ext 3 to 512mb as suggested by LeeDroid, I still get the ! + Android.
Thanks
Assuming you are using Clockwork Recovery, boot into recovery and select 'Install zip from SD card', then select 'Toggle signature verification' to turn off signature checking and flash your rom update zip.

Thanks for your advice, but I still ahven't resolved my issue.
I am trying to create an ext3 partition on my sd card using ROM Manager. This time I went into Recovery and yes I am using Clockwork, I toggled signature varification to 'disable', then rebooted. Next I opened ROM Manager and then 'Partition SD Card'. I set ext3 to 512mb and swap to 0mb and clicked OK.
The device rebooted and then hung with the exclamation mark and Android showing. I went into Recovery again by pressing back and on/off keys. The following error message was displayed:
"E:failed to seek in /cache/update.zip (invalid argument)
E;signature verification failed
Installation aborted"
I get the same message regardless of having the signature toggle set to 'enable' or 'disable'.
Any suggestions for what I should try next?
Thanks

You have several options here, you can first try reinstalling Rom Manager to see if that helps, if not, you could try using this tool to partition the sd card: MiniTool Partition Wizard, or use the Amon-Ra recovery - flash it with unrEVOked and use that to partition your sd card.
As an alternative, you can try using an Ubuntu live cd of GParted by either burning it to a cd or boot it from a usb stick: http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download.
Or, you use it from within Ubuntu (vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVK-tJe8pXE&feature=related)
1) Connect your phone to your computer (or use an SD Card adapter...., in this case skip to 4)
2) Pull down the notification bar and mount the phone
3) Start Gparted
4) Gparted will search available drives. (Your phone should show up as a USB drive, and will be something like /dev/sdb1 or /dev/sdc1, etc..)
Warning: double-check you've not selected a hdd by mistake!
5) In the upper right corner, select the correct USB device for your phone. (i.e. check to make sure it is correct size for your SD card)
6) Right click on each partition and select 'unmount'
7) Right click on each partition and select 'delete'
If you know what you are doing, you can re-size the partitions and add a new 2nd partition formatted as ext2/3/4
8) Right click on the big gray bar (should say unallocated x.xx gb) and click 'new'
9) Enter configurations
Free Space preceding = 0
Create as = Primary
New size = [don't touch]
File system = fat32
Free Space Following = 512 (or whatever you want)
10) Click add
11) Right click on the big gray bar (should say unallocated x.xx gb) and click 'new'
12) Enter configurations
Free Space preceding = 0
Create as = Primary
New size = [don't touch]
File system = ext2/3/4 (recommend ext4)
Free Space Following = 0 (or ~32 if you want swap)
Click add
13) Click edit, then 'Apply All Operations' to write changes to disk
14) Quit GParted
15) Unmount your SD Card
16) Reboot your phone
Thanks for your suggestions. I downloaded MiniTool Partition Wizard, but for some reason the "Create" function on the tool bar was greyed out so I could not create a new partition. I'll keep trying though. Cheers.
Oks, let us know how you get on.

well, the latest on my happenings is that I took a bit more time to look at the MiniTool Partition app and was able to partition the sd card successfully. Because I was a bit apprehensive, I used a 2GB sd card for an initial trial and it took me a while to get it right, but I did it in the end.
Unfortunately (there's always one of them isn't there?), now when I connect my Desire to the USB and select "Disk Drive", it seems to connect as if it is "Charge Only" mode. I cannot see the sd card in MS Explorer! Also if I take the sd card out of the device and put it into the sd card slot in my laptop, I cannot read it with MS Explorer, but I can see it using the MiniTool Partition app.
I'll try it again tonight on my desktop to see if there is any difference.
I had your problem with the partition manager but I think you are making a basic mistake somewhere with rom manager. You need to boot into recovery and disable the signature verification as per instructions in this thread. Make sure it says 'disabled'. Then choose 'Reboot system now'. If you had rebooted, turned the phone off and booted again, the signature verification would have been enabled again. You must make sure you toggle and then boot the system immediately. I had your problems exactly but they were fixed by the toggle. The only other suggestion I can make is to clear the cache and the dalvick cache before you toggle and then boot and use rom manager.

Galaxy Pocket S5300 MAK-DROID Help Needed

Hello guys, couple days back I quit smoking so i had some spare time and I thought I could improve my 1st android phone. Well, I am smoking this very moment and I have a very nice paperweight on my desk.
ROM: t=1873652
I've tried installing the ROM, but it didn't work. I've done everything exactly as in the tutorial, but I got stuck.
So I got past these steps:
* Download the CWM for pocket from here
* Copy update.zip into your internal memory
* Go to recovery mode (Vol-up + Home + Power)
* Choose apply Update from SD card
* Select update.zip file
* Wipe data factory reset,
* Wipe Cache data
but then I tried installing the ROM itself from the SD card I got the error "E:Can't mount /sdcard/"
I can't cancel the installation or boot my system, I don't have a data cable, although I have a card reader if that helps. My android was on the S5300XXLF5 stock firmware and I am using CWM v5.0.2.8. Oh and everytime I try to reboot the device from CWM menu it just freezes all I'm seeing is the console with the "Rebooting..." at the bottom of it.
What should I do now? I want to either get this ROM working or just getting my phone to work with any firmware - any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
update1
I get an error even before that, it pops up during "Data Factory Reset" procedure:
E: format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblklp2
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure...
Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!
Skipping format...
Data wipe complete.
oh and BTW, CWM getting stuck in the "rebooting..." stage is a perk of this build apparently...
Where did you get your ROM? Did you download the Mak-Droid ROM?
Copy the zip file to your sdcard. After you get the CWM running, you proceed to installing your new ROM. Read the instructions carefully.
And if you are stuck in rebooting, if you read the instructions- it tells you to manually reboot by pressing the power button. After this reboot, it will go back to the original MOD the you reboot again.
This should work for you...
I had the same experience. Just manually reboot the phone.
It is stated on the instructions that the reboot option on CWM for galaxy pocket doesn't work as of now.
