When you push a file to your phone, say the email fix (Email.apk) for Cyanogen Mod 6, do you just push the file to the location of the file you want over-written, and then just reboot?
One more question, can you brick your device by pushing files?
It all depends on if you just want to push an .apk or actually install an .apk. I assume thats what you want to do by your reference.

It's just a fix so I assume just push it :/
.apk applications can be installed though by using Astro and App Manager correct?
Yes
and
Yes
Oh, ya you can brick your phone while pushing files. one wrong directory and thud! It's a brick. But thats a high BAC to get those directories wrong.

Hi All,
I was wondering if I could put out a request for some APKs. I would like to have live wallpapers on Bonsai and have tried putting livewallpaper.apk and the picker into my Epic but I don't have Root Explorer and I can't seem to change the permissions on those files. Right now all of the APKs I found have Read Yes Write Yes and the other one No. All of the APKs in my app directory have Read Yes Write No and other one No. Could someone post those APKs with permissions set like that? I don't know if that is my exact problem or if it is worth it to buy RE for only that purpose.
TIA,
DD
I believe its been mentioned before that ES File Explorer brings most of the Root Explorer functionality for free. I could be wrong though since ive never tried it myself. Worth a shot though if its just a permissions issue.

U can also use sdx stock app removal app, just put the apk in the adx folder on the SD card and go Into the app then to manage backups and got restore
Set From My 3.0.1 Bonsai Epic 4g
Thanks. I have tried everything. I could not change the permissions using sdx or ES File manager. All I could do with those programs was access the system directories. Unless I am doing something wrong, I will either need to get Root Explorer and change the permissions or get altered livewallpaper apks.
I think the frankenstine rom thread has a flashable zip for live wallpapers

OK. I think I may be confusing some people.
I would like to have Live Wallpapers in Bonsai since it's been removed. I did some research and found that you need to install the livewallpaper apks into the system/app directory. I did that using ES File Manager and rebooted. It didn't work. I did some more research and a few people had the same issue. The solution was to make sure the permissions in the livewallpaper apks was exactly the same as the permissions as the other apks in the apps directory. The apks in the directory all have Read Yes, Write No and Hidden No. All of the livewallpaper apks I found had permissions set up as Read Yes, Write Yes and Hidden No. I figure if I change the Write from Yes to No, it might work. I'm not 100% positive which is why I don't know if it's worth it to buy Root Explorer just to experiment. I'm hoping someone can provide me with the livewallpaper and livewallpaperspicker apks with altered permissions that have those settings.
Estewa_619, I will try that ROM. Thanks!
Tried the Frankenstein ROM livewallpaper apks and it still didn't work. The permissions are still set up as Read Yes, Write Yes and Hidden No.

This is very easy to solve. Go to midnight rom and download it to computer. Open up the midnight extras folder and you will find lots of zip files in there that are all flashable in CWM. Just extract the folder, then copy the live wallpaper zips you want onto your sd card, then flash in CWM.
Alternatively, what I normally do is download the rom you want to flash (Bonsai). Open it up on your pc. Navigate to system/apps. Paste the livewallper apks into that directory. Then flash normally. This will include any files you want in the system/app folder.

7zip (windows) is what u want to use 2 open the zip but DO NOT EXTRACT it!!! Well in 7zip paste the apks u want into system/apps. Then close 7zip. Move the rom 2 ur sdcard and flash as u would normaly. U can also replace the boot/shutdown animation and a few other parts of the rom that you can add or subtract stuff from. I hope this help as not to sound offensive but u seem a bit newbish and 7zip isa great tool for viewing zip files w/o extracting them took me a good deal of time 2 find this handy tool, hope this helps ya out...

I tried all of the cut and pasting techniques. None of them worked. I came across this online:
Code:
adb push LiveWallpapersPicker.apk /sdcard/
adb shell
Code:
su
remount rw
cat /sdcard/LiveWallpapersPicker.apk > /system/app/LiveWallpapersPicker.apk
exit
exit
I went into the dos shell and sure enough it worked!
Thanks for all the suggestions!

Here are the .zips from the midNIGHT ROM extras folder... Flash one of these, should work.
But the adb method works just as well... Maybe even faster.

It's dependent on the sony framework as it's preinstalled, push the .apk to /system/app/ and it will work again

You can just copy and paste it to /system/app. Using a file explorer, but you must set the right permissions afterwards, or if you have a pc, you can use adb, just to push the .apk

when you say "push the .apk" do you basically mean move the downloaded .apk-file to /system/app then install it from there or what?

No push is a command used by adb, so you would use the command "adb push xxxx.apk /system/app" and that would move the apk to that location, you dont need to install apps to /system/ just copy them there
i have this problem on s5830i
thats no has system folder
what do i?
hi guys, just switched to cm7.1, its a good rom, i was wondering if its possible to add your own apps into the rom and then flashing it? what i mean is to add your own essential apps into the rom and then to zip it so it uses up more rom space and leaves more internal space. if there is a method, can some one please give some idea on it. thanks
Of course it is. Just copy the app's apk from /data/app in the /system/app folder of the zip file.
Thanks but can you explain abit more in detail please, like if i put the apks in that folder, will the apps automaically be installed? and as for the rom zip file, will that need to be zipped up back in a special way? also will the apk's need to be signed with a special program? a small accurate guid would be sweet. thanks
There are two ways, either manually open the zip (no need to extract it) then just drag and drop your apk files to the System/app folder or data/app folder then close the window. Sometimes it doesnt work it depends I think on how the files was compiled or something.
Or use ROM manager. Look it up in the forums.
Edit: Its Rom Editor if my memory recalls it correctly.

No, just open the zip and stick the apk's in that directory. Then when you go to flash just disable signature verification..
I'm not sure as to how this will go about saving space though.. it's the same as installing apps AFAIK

In a way it does save space. I remove some apps that I don't need from the CM zip like ROM Manager, live wall paper etc and then add my apk files on system instead of it being saved in data folder.
Sthankyou, can i manually move apps in the data folder into the system with root explorer? i am s-off.

with root explorer yes, but I don't think they'll actually be installed just by putting them there..

Yes you can manually install apks to the system/app using root explorer. But you have to modify the permission of the apk file upon transferring. It is best that you first copy the apk from the data/app folder to sd. Then uninstall the app. Then use root explorer to transfer the app from sd to system/app. Update the permission then reboot.
Take note that not all apps will work with this method. Some apps just needed to be on the data/app folder based on my experience.

Yup. I forgot about that. Yeah damn easy too.
While deleting some apps I didn't need, I accidentally deleted the exchange services apk or whatever its called. I know I can just do a restore through CWM but I'm wondering if someone can just give me the apk. Because my email isn't working and I kind of need it to.
Forgot to mention, I need the 4.0.4 one. I have a cdma gnex btw
Thanks in advance
I'd give you mine but I don't use it so it's been deleted also. Pull it from your ROMs zip and push it to the phone. Or use Unyaffs to unpack your system.ext4.tar zip and pull it from there.

Hi all,
Something happened to my phone and I ended up having to wipe and re-flash everything. Long story short, I did have the Samsung email 5.0.0.00400 install with the new ROM but I accidentally deleted it via TI Backup. I tried re-installing a backed up version of 5.0.0.00200 but it will not install for some reason.
I've searched around and the most recent apk I could find is 3.3.something, which I have installed now, but I'd really like to get back to the newer version. I know I can re-flash the ROM, but I've done quite a bit of setup, restoring apps and widgets, etc. at this point and I'd hate to lose all that. Figured I'd ask here before going down that road.
Could someone please be kind and link me to a stock Samsung mail app apk for version 5.0 and above?
Thank you in advance!

Hey Aaron very much appreciated! :good::good:
Still a noob when it comes to some most of this stuff. In this case odex vs deodex. I see the 2 apk files as well as all the files in the lib folder. I'm assuming the apk files install as normal? What do I do with the lib files?
Thanks again for your help!

No problem.
If your rooted, you could try just copying the folders over to /system/app. The folder gets 0755 permission and the files get 0644 permission. And then they would be system files. This should work fine, as long as the permissions are set.
Or you could just try installing them regularly.
And Then if you want maybe use Ti Backup to make them system files.
Hope that helps

Yes I am rooted. So just to talk this out before I do anything... I've looked up how to set permissions for files and folders. I have ES File Explorer and understand I can change permissions with root explorer on. I've never done this before so just to make sure I have it correct...
I would copy both secEmail_K and SecExchange folders to the /system/app folder on the phone.
Using Root explorer I would set permissions as:
Folders: rwxr-xr-x
Files: rw-r--r--
Thanks again for your help and quick responses. One more question if you don't mind, just to help me understand permissions. If the files have no executable permissions for any of the 3 classes it would seem as though they wouldn't be able to run. I'm sure I'm misunderstanding however.

This is right from my phone now. So all should be good. You might not even have to change it, they might be good before.
