Since the youtube app is no more, I've tried to go to the mobile site. It loads the video page up just fine, but when you try to play, the phone goes full screen for a second and then errors out, saying it is unable to play the video. What gives?
HTC Incredible running SkyRaider 3.0 RC3 with KingxKernel#4. I've loaded the same flash file that I always do that works.
Something with the new youtube site?

No, it's an issue with stagefright. With the Froyo ROMs, you have a choice between devil voices in Flash, bad streaming audio, or m.youtube.com not working. Since we have the youtube app, breaking the site's functionality is the lesser evil.

Hi, just got my Desire
My problem is that I can remember seeing in videos about Android (or was it the iPhone?) that when I click on a Youtube link the Youtube app opens and I can rate the video etc and then return to the website.
But on my Desire the Youtube website opens and I have to click on the video and the "HTC Flashplayer" plays the video in bad quality.
Other example: On a website is the Youtube Player embedded and I click on the video. Again, the HTC Player opens and plays the video in bad quality. Now I have no chance to get to the Youtube site and rate or comment the video.
When i disable flash support the video isn't avaible at all. Is it possible to link the youtube videos to the Yutube app? I think I missed a checkbox or something... When I found a video I will post it here. Thanks for your help
Yep I posted a thread saying exactly the same thing a while ago, sadly there isn't anything you can do about it, it's one of those stupid decisions HTC have made.
If you root your phone and install froyo 2.2 however, videos will play from websites in the youtube app. But as soon as you install flash 10.1 beta you're back to the same problem, where it forces you to use the flash player instead of the excellent quality h.264 version. (in fact flash 10.1 beta is probably even worse than flash lite right now for playing youtube videos.) However if you do load up the flash version on froyo then tap on it, it does give you the option to open in the youtube app, but you have to load up the flash version first before it gives you the option.
When I disable flash in the options I doesn't see the video at all And in the options the HTC flashplayer say that he is 'No standard app' ("Kein Standard").
Isn't there a registry (coming from WM ) or something like that?
The only way for you to get such an option is to use a non-default browser. Like Dolphin HD. Using that, you do get such options when a YouTube link is clicked. Tragic decision by HTC, no doubt (although I don't have your limitation, oddly).

Hello.
I had the same problem (search the forum) but updated to latest Rom. Am using debranded Orange phone with T-Mobile sim card. Did OTA update, then WiFi stopped. Then installed full Rom using goldcard, didn't even get asked for a simunlock code (had used one previously). Now working! YouTube opens on clicking a link like on the Hero. Like it should.

@th3: Will try this. Is there a favourite browser (Dolphin HD?) like Opera on WM?
@Splather: Which ROM are you using now? Is Flash on other websites working? Is HTC Sense integrated? Are all other functions working?
Am I right that I don't need a goldcard with a unbranded phone?
EDIT: Okay... At the moment I got a system update from HTC...
EDIT2: Puuh...Wi-Fi still working =D
When i launch youtube nothing happens.
I'm using vael rom 2.1. How do I reinstall youtube ?
Thanks.
So pretty much this...

Same here rofl.
Was happening to me on every vid, until I figured out that it was because I set stagefright media player to false as a Pandora fix. Once I set it back to true all my you tube vids play fine. In the app, and on YouTube mobile.

edit - I'm referring to the video cannot be played error, btw.
So i figured out when it stopps working.
It stops working as soon as i play a youtube clip from m.youtube.com on the browser. When you play there it plays it in the built in browser player and not the youtube app.
Anyone knows why this happens ?
I did try to clear defaults.
It always gives me that error in the youtube app for me. I dont know why but if I try enough times I can get it to finally play. I am just waiting for the new youtube app from the desire Z to be ported.
Anybody experience the Youtube app stating the video cannot be played in my country?I mean come on I'm in Florida!Any ideas?
Florida is almost Mexico so it doesn't count. (j/k)
Lol yeah its pretty close to Mexico...Its still weird though that it thinks I'm in another country
So ? Any progress on this ? I have to keep reverting back to a backup after the thing stops working.
same thing!
my Evo is doing the same thing i think.. almost every video i play comes up with the "sorry this video could not be played" or "sorry there was a problem playing this video"
it's extremely annoying! I am a former iPhone user and well.. sorry to say but the iphone had ZERO problems playing video.. if google designed android.. and OWNS youtube.. then wtf? I am running Fresh Evo 3.0.0.1 (whatever the newest release is) but it has done it since before root and any custom roms.. so far ive tried searching the forums.. but found not one real fix.. unless im blind.. is there a fix or what?
thanks.. im thinking about just unrooting and bringing to sprint.. seems like im not the only one with this problem though so i dont know if that would help out really..
I have just installed Skyfire Browser (beta) from the Market and the sites that crash for me using the Android built in browser are fine in Skyfire, ie BBC , sites that embed justin.tv videos.
i mainly use flash to watch football and the framerate is superb using Skyfire.
Hope this helps some people on here.
So you don't have todays Flash 10.1.95.1 update skewing the comparison?
5MB more gone...

No........... but ive just installed it and my usual sites are still crashing with the stock Android browser and fine with Skyfire
Here's a test then. How many embedded videos can you see and playon this page with the Skyfire browser? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/9004741.stm

I clicked your link and it crashed
and even worse the sites which were ok for my about 10 minutes ago now crash!!!!!!
what have you done?
got it working again after uninstalled/reinstalling.
this is weird as the football videos on the scottish premier league section of the BBC website play fine.
I have the "Enable plug-ins" option set top On-Demand and when i try your link i do not even see a box where the flash videos should be.
If i set "Enable plug-ins" option to "always on" and try your link then the browser crashes.
Thanks for trying and persisting
It's pages like that giving us weird problems, like crashes, lag, no embedded video showing, etc.
There should be two Flash vids on that page to play. I too have plugins set to on-demand and if I change it to Always on, then try that page -> crash. I don't know what it is but it is limited to a few sites in my case so it doesn't bother me as much.

Both of them crash when watching flash video, does flash 10.1 fix this?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
same **** man....browser crashing here on bbc football.
fixed the crash by setting plug-ins to on demand but still some missing videos.
tried dolphin browser too but same problem
Ill do anything to fix this.
More often than not, YouTube will tell me 'there was a problem playing the video. touch to retry'.
This is unacceptable. Also, when a video does play, it will play halfway, stop and do what seems to be loading the rest of the vid.
Please tell me there is a tweak or something or other that I can apply, hopefully via EPST or a modified YouTube app.
Really looking forward to fixing this problem. Today I was attempting to show a very interested barnes and noble employee a video of honeycomb on the nook...the video would not play. Needless to say, I was a little embarrassed.
Please help!
Thank you thank you
Have you tried un-installing and re-installing the app?
-Update flash player
-Using the modified flash player?

Please elaborate on the modded flash player. I was using the YouTube app to attempt to play the videos. Even if I go to the youtube mobile site, it launches the youtube app and then...you guessed it, it doesnt play. Ive applied various tweaks in epst. tomorrow, ill be able to try real world 3g action, playing vids via the youtube app. i could actually try it now...
ive applied tweaks such as:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922978
also: http://www.evdoinfo.com/content/view/1960/63/ (which is currently back to default)
This is very disheartening. Thanks for your help!
Ah I see. Well they do seem clear, but I can't personally tell you any results because personally haven't had to use them. Though for the flash player go to te thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=688054 download the zip in the first post. Put it on the root of your sd card and install like any other app. THOUGH you need to uninstall your current flash player for this to work. Also, DO NOT update your flash player after you install the patched one. Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure is the 3G hack for faster speeds messsing with YouTube It happened to me before you probably changed something that you shouldn't had, do a nandroid backup and flash the role.clean and if YouTube plays then you did something wrong with the hack, male sure you only put the 0 and the 0.0.0.0 on the HTTP wtv proxxys only no the one on top, that's what I did wrong and my YouTube would only play in wifi
You don't need to flash the clean rom you can check the setting first

Im having a problem with watching any video content on the web after moving from stock 2.2 to Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 and 7.1.0 RC1.
This is not a problem of flash video as the videos I am trying to watch do not require Abobe flash player. For example the website I would most want to use is m.tvcatchup.com (the non-flash version of tvcatchup.com).
So say I am trying to view m.tvcatchup on the stock browser, login no problem, select channel no problem, select quality (which starts the stream) problem. After choosing the quality I am sent to web page not available. Now using the dolphin HD I get to the same point but after choosing quality I get this message from the browser "No application can preform this action"rather than being sent to web page not available.
Now that would suggest that the video player coming with CM7 cannot play video from outside the app eg. fro the web. Any replacement apps that defiantly can play video content from the web?
Just to confirm i could do this on HTC Sense on 2.2 the problem arose as soon as i moved to cm 7.0.3 and the problem is still there after moving to cm 7.1.0 RC1.
*RESOLVED* As presumed the stock video player seems not to support streaming, after tryng a few video apps i found many that didn't hep but eventually found that "mVideoPlayer" was my saviour.
