Has anyone else ran into an issue where once you switched to a custom rom that it is taking nearly 4 hours to get a complete re-charge even while connected directly to a outlet and not a PC? I am having this issue if anyone has any advice its much appreciated.
Ive seen this both on Skyraider and Virtuous 2.7
It's a problem with every 2.2 Rom.

USB cord vs wall charger
May be a placebo effect, but my device charges (seems to) charge much faster when plugged into the wall charger vs. the USB cable into the PC. FAR faster charge when device is off, in either charging scenario, USB or wall charger.
Started a thread about this a week or 2 ago. The more power you give any smart phone, it seems, the more juice you're going to use. until battery technology catches up we just have to find better ways to charge it. my newest solution, adding usb ports in my car. best thing about it is now I use my phone as dash mounted navigation with Google maps and navigator, works better than any car gps I've seen, probably because Google actually updates their maps automaticly.

On CM6, I've learned that if you turn your phone off, plug it into the wall charger, wait a few seconds after the LED turns on, then boot up your phone it chargers at about the normal rate of 1% a minute which was the rate back on stock 2.1. I cant say if this works on the other roms cus i havent tried it on them.
The consensus is that the OS is keeping the phone from charging properly in 2.2, but the RMF that controls charging when the phone is off works normally and somehow retains the correction even after booting the phone up while charging.
BTW, this definitely isn't a development topic...had you looked in Q&A or General, you would have found at least 5 or 6 threads about this issue.

if I remember correctly, the os sense whether the phone is hooked into a computer or a wall charger and adjusts the amount it pulls accordingly.. I think that the phone will pull 1amp when hooked into the wall and 500-900ma from the usb.. don't quote me on this, as i read it somewhere on here awhile ago i think... also, this would make sense to me as usb 1/2/3 all are capable of different power amounts and this sensing ability built into the os/phone
usb power on wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Serial_Bus#Power
/edit: there's also something at the end of that post that mentions that under certain circamstances usb can supply 900ma - 1.5A of current.
That is how long it takes to charge. The cord that came with my phone has a sticker on it that says. " Full charge takes 4 hours standard. 5 hours extened. " It's always taken that long to charge my phone if I let it go down all the way.

So why can't we get threads like this deleted? The suggestion to actually SEARCH for the already existing post has already been given...we should be able to suggests posts for deletion by mods...all this clutter is generating even more reason to create repeat posts like this....

So, I'm not that new to rooting. I've been playing around with SRF for quite some time, as well as playing around with a few other phones. I decided to update to GB as the update had rolled out this morning. I updated successfully & rooted it, even added ACS ICS v4.
Now, here is where I'm having this battery issue. Before I updated to GB, I had no problem using the wall charger. Now that I've updated, the wall charger will not work. I've tried rebooting my phone, reflashing the ROM, toggling debugging mode, all of it. My USB is working, but nothing from the wall charger. I know for a fact this charger is good (it's not the stock one, it's a different samsung one) as it works on my boyfriends epic (we didn't play around with his yet).
Is anyone else having this issue? or am I the only one? What are some suggestions to fix this?
Thanks~

Use the stock charger, it seems code in the GB update enforced this. Just two days ago, my cousin updated to GB and reported this very issue, but she was using a Nexus S 4G wall charger, she had no issues charging it when I handed her my Stock Epic Charger.
P.S. the nexus s 4g charger charged her phone regardless, just no red led notification with only the battery icon in the status bar as proof of charging. However, I did not check the specs of the Nexus S charger, give a phone a charger with too much, or too little voltage, and you could eventually mess it up.

You could try looking up one on Amazon, prices vary for the stock charger, it doesn't have to be the same cable, just that wall charger bit would of been valuable to hang on to.

I've noticed this, too. My phone would physically charge, but aside from that, there was no physical notification that it was plugged in. Even the battery usage would show the battery life increasing, but not register it as "Charging"
Has anyone noticed this with car chargers? I have a Sprint charger (via Amazon), and things still work fine with that. Also things work fine with the Blackberry USB cord when plugged into a computer (Linux, PC, Mac). But when that goes into a generic AC to USB converter, no dice.
Well actually, when I had it plugged in via wall charger it said it showed the little notification charging, but the battery was draining and would not hold a charge.
I found a samsung charger (not the stock one) and tried that. It worked perfect, LED came on and it actually held a charge.
The only thing now is that it seems my battery will not stop draining. It has been off the charger for 15 minutes, and batter is already down 10% with LIGHT use (I checked my VM, that's it).
I ordered the 1800mAh OEM battery yesterday so I'm hoping to swap this out and see if that may be the problem. Any other suggestions as to how I could fix that if this isn't the issue? ;( le sigh.

Once you get that new battery, charge it with the phone off, when 100% charged, calibrate the battery.

Alright..... for some reason this is a very...VERY difficult thing to find an answer to despite me already knowing a lot about it...
So, I use my epicTouch to tether 4g to my laptop while at work. I have both usb 2.0 and 3.0 ports on my laptop. Over time though, the battery drains, rather than charging. Now I know that it is because the phone won't draw full power when connects to USB but that you can trick the phone into thinking the USB is a wall outlet unit and that it will pull the full amount of power that it can....but, how do you get it to do that? I found a few apps on the market and such but they seem to rely on a certain type of kernel.
So my end result is, I want my phone to charge faster....or rather, charge at all versus losing power, while tethering.
I guess I would like to know if it needs a certain kernel, which kernel that would be, which ROM I could use it with, which app to use.....but all I really need is a solution.
Right now I'm running CM9 and the kernel that came with that.
Thanks!
I remember seeing a kernel tweak option that allows "fast charging" in AOKP Build 37.... but I forget if data can transfer while its turned on.... if your interested look into it on this thread.

Thanks. Last time I used AOKP I had a few issues with it and I'm really liking cm9. I'll give it a look though!
I don't know about aokp, but stock based roms have a toggle for USB charging somewhere in settings.

Update.... I tried using usb 3.0 to tether a while back but it wasn't working. 2.0 worked though so i used that. Turns out i just didn't have my drivers installed, once they were up and running though, the phone actually charges instead of discharging slowly, and it may be just placebo, but I feel like the data speeds are a bit snappier too.
Still though, wouldn't mind knowing if someone has an easy way to enable faster charging.... I also know a motherboard I used to have had a setting to make a usb port be used for fast charging... So maybe the trick would be on the pc end and not the phone? It seems like the phone regulates the power is consumes based on what the port tells it.... So maybe either end, pc or phone, would solve it. Thanks again!

Does foxfi 4g hotspot work with ICS or CM9 yet? I rolled back to EL29 and downloaded the latest foxfi it works just fine. Plug phone into wall outlet then fire it up. I know its not the ideal solution but I got tired of ICS stuff that sort of works.
edit: I also have this wire for en external hard drive that plugs into 2 usb ports. I assume that means it will pull power from both ports. Never tried with phone though
Just FYI, USB 3.0 and 2.0 will output the same amount of power if you plug the phone into either. The phone it self determines what power to draw, so finding a tweak for the phone is the only solution for your problem.

When my Galaxy Nexus GSM is not plugged in, the battery shows itself as "discharging". Previously this used to be "not charging". I have tried multiple (Jelly Bean) ROMs, different cables, wall and USB chargers. Same problem. The larger issue: my PC no longer recognizes my phone and I have resorted to using AirDroid to transfer files.
Can anyone shed light on this issue?
I have done full wipes, including wiping battery stats.
Mine was always discharging...
And make sure that you got fast charge off if you have that on. That disables MTP capability.
I have exactly the same problem...see my thread...its recent!

I had a similar issue, and then not long after the phone refused to charge. I had to take it to get serviced, and the ended up giving me a refurb instead.
I think it has to do with the temp of the battery, if its too hot and you have it plugged in it will say discharging.

First, don't use a charger other than the original. The different volts mess with the NFC chip and antenna. Try disabling NFC and rebooting. Leave NFC off and try to charge. If that doesn't do it I have another option that might work but I'm CDMA so you would have an extra step to change lines in file.
Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I tried disabling NFC but it had no effect. My phone is the international version (the box was in Polish) which is not warrantied through Samsung USA, so I guess I'm out of luck there as well. I'm just gonna hang in there until the next Nexus phone, I guess.

When will people realize that the difference in voltage won't cause any problems with the phone as long as they're within safe range.
I've been using the charger that came with my G2 (htc) on my nexus for months and have no problems. I would've continued using the original one that came with the nexus but it had an annoying whine to it.

Really because it sure seemed to be my problem a while back and anytime i use a different one. Guess samsung and google must not know what theyre talking about.
Chargers are rarely the problem, however different usb cables might be the problem instead.

Am using samr original charger and cord. Works fine
I have this same issue
My Galaxy Nexus from Verizon has worked flawlessly for several months now. It updated about 4 days ago to JellyBean 4.1.1 and I have been charging the same two wall chargers, car charger, and USB cables every day since I got the phone. I even was using the USB charger to deploy and debug a simple application I am building around noon today. This evening at about 8 PM while on the wall charger I noticed the charging stopped. No lightening bolt icon, status says Discharging, and I noticed one time that it said Not Charging. Neither of the wall chargers work, nor is it recognized by the laptop using the USB cable. It is at 65% charge and is dropping fast. It seems that no one has a fix for this other than replace the phone.
Very difficult for me to believe that the USB port just went bad using the same chargers every day. Hard to blame JellyBean that has run at least 4 days with no issue even though several sites point to a possible charging issue. I even dialed *#*#4636#*#* and checked the battery status, and it's health was good. I have not rooted or placed anything on this phone that is obscure beyond my simple near "hello world" development apps. I have rebooted, and performed a battery pull with no such luck. With the number of posts pointing to a JellyBean issue, and users experiencing the same issue after the upgrade to 4.1.1 I am leaning towards this being a software issue, but it is interesting at the number of posts saying that the their only fix is a refurb phone replacement from the carrier.
Pretty odd occurrence, and extremely frustrating. As I said the phone worked fine all day today. This just started a few hours ago for me.

OK I have fixed my issue. and it does appear to have been hardware related. I will preface this with you must be very careful not to break your phone with the solution below. I read several posts about using contact cleaner on the USB port, so I looked at the port on the phone and noticed that the "toungue" inside the reciever USB port appeared to be slightly bent down. With the phone off and battery removed I used a needle to wedge under the toungue and bend it up ever so slightly making sure I would not break it. Pluged in the phone and it still did not charge. (That was last night) this morning with the phone at 55% and thinking it was going to need to go back to Verizion I did it again phone off and battery removed only this time a bit more forcefully out of desperation. I definitely moved the "toungue" up and even had a bit of difficulty getting the USB cord to slide back into the connector. But when it did the Phone is charging again. Appearantly I must of jammed the plug into the phone upside down last night when getting into my car and bent the "tongue" in the USB port. Lesson learned, and hope this helps others.
Means the battery has been recharged and discharged to the point were it holds less of the charge. Basically its an older battery, or its been tappered with with, probably a rom using to much ram or pussing the device a bit too far nightly and ported roms could be the cause I say stick to stock kernal unless you really now what to do
Scrap that wrong fourm I think
Hello everyone,
I am currently going through hell with my sph-l710. This all started a few days ago.
My phone refuses to charge sometimes, but the charging light comes on. I have never gotten the phone to charge above around 20%. I took it to sprint. First they said it was a software issue but they wouldn't look at it because i was on a custom rom (Liquidsmooth) and rooted. So I went home and did a reflash of md4 via odin.
This didn't fix the issue.
So I went back in. This time, they said it was the battery. So I bought a brand new battery.
That didn't help the issue.
So I went back in, and they said they had to keep in for an hour to see if I simply needed a new phone. When I came back, they said it worked fine on multiple chargers and they got it up to 56%. So I came back home thinking maybe they were just covering their asses for the previous times they couldn't figure it out.
That didn't help the issue.
It once again wouldn't charge and while I was bored I flashed cleanbean v4.0. Still not charging properly. I noticed that while it was plugged into my PC, it got up to like 30% so I got excited, but when I rebooted the phone after unplugging it, it went down to 17% immediately.
I'm literally pulling my hair out over this. I have used my mom's charger for her htc evo and that won't charge it either.
Can someone pelase tell me what in the world is wrong with my phone??
Cheers
The charger, do not use a charger for HTC, make sure you use the charger that came with the phone. USB charging from the computer is slow. But your wall charger should have it fully charged within an hour. If not then your charger is bad or the cable is bad.
Transmitted with a portable device using Xparent Blue Tapatalk 2
Check the port on the phone for pocket fuzz, Try a different usb cable, try a different charger. It's likely one of these is the problem. If not, is your phone running hot? If so, maybe an app on the phone is drawing so much current that the charger can't keep up. What does the battery usage display in settings say? Does it show something eating up battery that shouldn't be?

I used to think the same thing, but when I use my Kindle's charger or my old Evo 4G's charger, my phone doesn't charge, it just maintains the same level. My Palm Pre's charger, though, works like a charge. The Funkiest Ed wasn't saying that only Samsung chargers would work, but that it's likely the charger doesn't work anymore.
Hey guys:
I'm an IT tech and I'm really confused on this one. Started happening a week or 2 ago. I'd be charging my phone and it'd randomly cut out. I run Carbon ROM and have the notification light set to be a solid yellow when charging so I know if it's charging or not. It would happen very infrequently, but would cut out. I'd unplug and replug and it would be fine for the most part. It's gotten progressively worse. I was running NEAK kernel so I tried to go back to stock Carbon trinity kernel, same problem. The other day my phone would also randomly go in and out of "car mode" too which was weird. Currently, I have it plugged into my computer so it's charging in USB mode (lower voltage) and as of right now it's holding charge. But prior to last rebooot it was going on,off,on,off with the charge. Today my phone has locked up a few times when plugged into a full AC charger even. Seems to be completely random right now. I'm just looking for any advice. Going to flash a different ROM and see if that does anything. If not, what part would I need to order? I saw a Youtube instructional video on how to replace USB port and I'd be willing to do that. I bought my phone off Craigslist and have had it for like 6 months. No proof of purchase, which you need for Samsung warranties right? The battery is not "swollen" in the middle. Oh, also this morning, when it was going in,out,in,out,in,out constantly (on full AC charger), i could actually HEAR the (official Samsung) charger resetting itself almost, in sync with when the charge would cut out, if that makes sense. I could actually hear the charger making a "click" everytime it would lose charge then it would try charging again, and would click off again, over and over. Lastly, today I also saw in settings->battery it saying "charging" even though the charge light on my phone was off AND i saw it drop a percentage so it wasn't actually charging. VERY random. Maybe clear battery stats? Doubt that'd do anything... I have CWRP on my phone...
Any thoughts at all on this or if you've seen this would be great. Likely new USB port needed. Where to buy? If new ROM does not fix, it must have to be replaced. That's all I can think of....
Currently, it is holding a charge. I re-installed NEAK kernel, and set the AC charging to 1000 instead of the default of 1700. This happens though. When it seems to be holding, it's fine until I unplug and try later and then all the randomness begins. No idea what to think of it. Don't even know if setting to 1000 had anything to do with it working, likely not....
Didn't see it mentioned. Have you tried a different cable or even a different charger? Would do that before changing a usb port on the phone. Doesn't sound like the port if you are able to charge via a PC USB.
