Apps will download in sense, but won't install! - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sometimes when I'm downloading updates or apps in sense, it will download to 100% but then it wont' install until I intervene and reinstall it.
Why?

Try mounting your SD card before you do installs, should work 100% then.

I have had this problem on skyraider and virtuous.... it's not that big of a deal but its annoying. after it downloads (and doesnt install) i go to the download folder in astro and install the .apk that way.
then i back up using titanium and never have to deal with it again.

new sd Card Copied, Now all apps are gone??

I got a new Sd Card. Searched and folled instructions.
1. Turn off phone, copy sd card to temp folder on computer.
2. Copy temp folder contents to new sd card.
3. put sd card back into phone
4. turn on
Did all this, now my launcher is gone, and all my apps are gone. I check phones memory and the memory shows that a ton of stuff is installed, but i cant see it in the app drawer.
Any idea whats up?
Fresh Evo 4.1.1.
Well for the launcher especially, have you tried moving it to internal memory, or restoring with titanium backup?

All of my apps WERE internal memory...
If i go to internal storage, i can see all of the apps listed there. but they are greyed out.
I didnt do a titanium backup, just because i didnt think swaping an sd card was an issue. Even putting my old card in doesnt fix the issue
I am going to advise looking at this...BAM > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243
Have you tried rebooting?
The sd card is recognized. That isnt the issue. The issue is that all of my apps, settings, and such in the Internal memory are no longer recognized. they are there. i can see them in the sd card and storage section of settings, but they will not run.
I tried running Amon_ra UID mismatch, and Ext fix.

It shouldn't, could just be a small slight random bug.

Are you able to move the apps to the sd card? Use titanium backup to do so, but only move user apps, and see if that works or does anything.
weird issue arises... When i try to re-download and install an app that i once had, launcher Pro, i get an error stating incompatable software version...
Also, titanium backup lists all of the apps that are missing, but they have a strikeout line through them.
That's awkward, let me think, and for titanium backup, have you tried running 'problems'?
yep... even in hopes of fixing this i bought the titanium full key.... still no luck

[Q] Do I really need a computer to get a new ROM?

Whenever I flash a new ROM the instructions always say to download the .zip to a computer then move it to the SD card etc.. Etc.. (You know the drill) Anyway, I've been thinking, you can download .zip files to your phone, so why do i need a computer?
Can't I just download it to my phones SD card, factory reset, wipe cache and then flash it? I really don't see the need for a computer.
Or have I just been naive and haven't heard of any bugs yet? Thanks!

You don't need a computer. You're indeed right to think that. You don't even have to dl it to the root of your sd card because recoveries are file managers anyways.

That saves a bunch of time then. I don't understand why all devs to download to a PC first..
Idk either. Probably because dling to Android from the internet can be buggy.
Sent from my HTC-PG762 using Tapatalk 2
the most likely reason is that because most roms are 100mb plus in size and the average user likes to test/experiement with various roms and most likely wont delete it from their phone each time, its just smarter in terms of storage to dl to computer but to the sd card is the same ting.

Can't install apps after flashing of roms

After flashing different Android 4.2 roms on her DHD, my friend is seemingly unable to install most apps and seemingly have no access to the SD card. I told her to use the repartition of the SD card function in CWM after flashing the first rom she tried, since she was stuck in the HTC boot screen. After having flashed the boot.rom file so that the OS now actually boots, something still seems seriously wrong after that repartition.
I don't know if apps actually require an SD card to function, but whenever she tries to install for example Tango, it says that the app already is installed on her phone. The reason why i suspect the OS not having access to the SD card is because the ext folders or whatever that supposedly are supposed to appear on the SD card when you install a new rom never appeared. There's nothing on it except the zip containing the new OS.
I can't find any solutions to this for this specific phone, and the information about this that i found in other topics i don't really understand.
Can someone please help us figure out what's wrong with her phone? It worked fine before in Android 2.3.

Hmm, no i don't think she has. But it worked before the CWM repartition, so something should make it work again.
Your first mistake was partitioning the sd card. Thats a waste of time and a headache waiting to happen. Remove sd and see if you can boot phone into recovery. If so format sd on computer do not partition then remount sd. You jave to also reflash rom.
Many people have been having issues with cmw. My suggestion is move on up to 4ext recovery. And stay away from rom manager its garbage.
Good luck

Thanks, that did solve the problem with the SD card. The folders were properly created when she flashed the rom once more.
The problem however still presists with apps; the play store says that they're already installed.
Try clearing play store history in play store settings see if that resolves it.
Edit: Also in memu>app manager try clearing rhe playstore data. It will open as tgo it was never opened and ask to accept terms and agree.

[Q] External SD Card is not writable. Fixing permissions does not work or help.

I'm currently running Stock TW 4.1.1 because it just works SO well for me. I've not bothered to upgrade since I bought this phone almost a year ago now I think..?
I'm fully rooted though and I'm running the Note 2 keyboard etc.
Anyway I finally decided to try an upgrade. I tried using the Stock MOD 4.3 ROM which was MUCH slower then my 4.1.1 ROM so I Nandroided back to my backup.
I've noticed that my external 16GB SD Card is no longer working though. I mean, it works. I can access my files and open them BUT the card is not writable. If I check the file permissions I can clearly see it's not set right. If I try to change the file permissions in something like ES File Explorer or Root Explorer I just get errors about not being able to change permissions.
If I boot into TWRP and run the "Fix Permissions" this doesn't help either.
Again this is for my EXTERNAL SD Card, not the built in SD Card.

Have you tried backing up the contents of the sd card and formatting it? Either from within the phone's storage menu or another device.

No I have not. I wanted to see if there was a way to do it without formatting first but if no one has any other idea's, I might have to try that.

That would be my first move to rule out a potential hardware failure, assuming you have the means to do so without much trouble.
Well being that it started right after a Nandroid restore I'm thinking it's not hardware failure related but you never know.
I guess it wouldn't take too long to do that. I'll give it a go.
Yep that did it. I guess I was WAY over thinking the issue.
I'm able to save porn to my external SD Card again so that is a major plus!

[Q] External SD Reverting Changes on Reboot

Hi everyone. I've been dealing with this for a few days now and I can't seem to figure out what the problem is. I'm currently running Wicked S5 Xperience with PhilZ recovery and CWM bootloader. My permissions file is written appropriately to allow apps to write to the external SD, and I manually went into ES File Explorer and changed the permissions appropriately. I'll take a picture, it saves to my external. Ill create a folder on external and it sticks. When I reboot, the folder is gone and the pictures disappear. I've also deleted pictures from the external, and upon reboot they come back. I've unmounted the external when flashing the ROM. I've formatted my internal SD. I've flashed the permissions file, tried Play Store apps, and manually editing the permissions.xml. I can't, for the life of me, figure out why this is happening. It's like my phone is forgetting what happened on the external when I reboot...
Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Has this happened with other ROMs as well? Like Wicked X or Tribute? Have you flashed any AOSP ROMs lately? Have you tried another external SD card to see if it may be a bad card?
Well I was on Pac which was AOSP and the permission changes didn't make ANY affect at all. ES was saying I didn't have any write permissions on the external no matter what I did. Stock rooted does the same thing as S5 Xperience, even though I'm using the "allowed" Samsung file explorer.
The card worked in the past, it's loaded with pictures and documents. It's a 64 GB SanDisk high capacity... Or whatever it's called... Its been forever since I looked at the card.
I was originally trying to put Wicked X and I got stuck in a boot loop while trying to install the Xposed framework, and the zip deleted itself from my internal storage. I thought I had downloaded S5 Xperience so I downloaded that. Everything installed fine. I'll download X and see of that changes anything, but each time I formatted and reflashed S5 Xperience I've been having the same issue. The users in the S5 Xperience thread gave me some suggestions, but they haven't worked so far.
If you're sure the SD Card itself is good, all I can recomend is odin back to 100% stock then see if the problem persists.

I'm going to reformat the card first before going back to complete stock. I'm sure it has something to do with the way I rooted or something.
It's the card... Its bad. It's not old enough, though, which upsets me...
