Froyo with a2sdext? - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am desperately searching for a froyo rom with working a2ext. I HATE froyos a2sd FAT32. But after hours of trying to get firerats (awesome) scripts to work, I need another way. My problem with those scripts iit fails cuz I don't have enough room in /system. I tried deleting boot anim, ringtones, even removing apps from the rom and gapps zip and nothing works.
TIA

Try This
it is the galaxyslide 1.0 rom by infinitybiff but with aps2ext ready to run
just download a terminal app and
$ su
Click always allow with super user
# cd /system/bin/
# sh a2sd reinstall
Things
will
pop
up
# phone will reboot
when restarted go back into terminal
$su
# cd /system/bin/
# sh a2sd cachesd
more
things
pop
up
#phone reboots
reboot may take 5min + this is ok dont worry
now when phone finally reloads you have aps2ext running
(also these commands can be run using adb just make sure phone is in clockwork mod recovery with system mounted! it is not required as i have tested this both ways and everything seems to work fine either way. if one way doesnt then try the other way)
All this is made possible by infinitybiff for the rom and the creator of the darktremor apps2sd method
if you want say the latest nightly instead of this let me know i can cook that up for you

also are you running the scripts from a terminal app or via adb on your comp? the reason it pops up not enough memory is because system is not able to mount as rw while not in recovery so it pops up not enough memory no matter what you remove. best way to run the scripts is to reboot phone into the clockwork recovery and mount system to your computer
then
adb remount
adb shell
sh /directory/with/script/firerat-patch183b.txt a2sd
it will do its job
the only real issue i have with the script is that it will not put the dalvik-cache onto the ext partition since it reads the phone as a mytouch.
This is the latest nightly 9/19 with aps2ext for those that want the stock cyan with aps2ext. its darktremor method again so the commands are the same as whats posted i the 2nd post

your welcome. thats also my biggest issue with froyo at the moment so i did a little research and found a way to fix it. if need be pm me and i can edit any rom you would like to try to allow aps2ext
check the sig and click the image and it will show you the process i use to include aps2ext into a rom.

Hmmmm i tried it running chromatic slide v1.4 and it through me into a bootloop well i think.. It wasnt complete bootloop but just the animation. So I rebooted and did a wipe and reinstalled rom and it works fine or appears to be..
Strange..

[Q] New update.zip for flashing custom roms?

I have been using eugene's update.zip to get into clockwork mod.(along with the engineering build) It works fine.
My problem is it contains an old version of superuser.
I had been using su-2.3.3. But every time I go into clockwork mod for anything I'm reverted back to su-2.1.
Which doesn't even work at this point, it actually breaks the app altogether, causing repeated FC.
What I've been doing is just reflashing su-2.3.3 to get back up and running, but I was wondering
is there a new update.zip for getting into clockwork mod?
Something that doesn't even have su installed.
Just remove su from that update and resign it...

OK so I removed he superuser.apk. How do I resign this? Sorry I'm a noob at this.
Personally I use ROM Manager by Clockwork in the market. Koush keeps it updated very well and there is no need to keep update.zip on your sd card with this app, it allows you to reboot directly into recovery from the app.

WOW!!
Your sooo right!! I finally gave rom manager a shot and your right this is waaayy easier.
I had considered using it but I was unsure about how it could access the recovery seeing as the MT3GS has got a weird nand thingy.
Also I'm so used to the G1 and N1's aman ra recovery's that I always looked at clockwork as being lame. But I stand corrected, I'm going to buy the pay version.

I agree, I do the same thing. I love how well it works to it's perfect for reboot recovery too, now extra steps in the process of getting to recovery. I do keep the update.zip on my sdcard just in case something goes bad I can get back in without relying on my apps loading.

[Q] Swype after CM

I am trying to help a friend out here with this one. I am trying to put swype back on my buddies slide and I am running into major problems. First off, I want to say I was able to do this on my G2 without any problems.
Ok, I have the libSwypeCore.so file and the Swype.apk file. When I try to push the libswype core file I get an out of memory error. I get another error when I try to install the apk, but I just can't remember it now.... too tired.
Has anyone who has been successful with this point me in the right direction?

Are you pushing the .so file and the .apk file while the phone is in recovery? That's the only way we can do push and install stuff using adb on the slide without special overlays and whatnot, because we are still s-on. You can't modify /system while the phone is out of recovery. If you are doing this while in recovery and you're still getting an error, I don't know what to tell you. I doubt that it's actually out of memory, so maybe a more experienced person on the matter can further troubleshoot. Sorry that's all I could offer
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
Wow, I did not know that. Thanks for the info. When I get his phone back I will try to push while in recovery. Makes sense now.
Push the so and install the apk just like I would do with the G2 right?

This is odd. On the slide you don't need the .so file. Just the swype.apk and it works. Did they change things? I'm using the 195 nightly so I'm using froyo.
With the newer swype betas it isn't required.

I am having the same problem.
I just upgraded my old slide to cm6.1 so I can give it to my dad.
I tried what we do on the g2 (putting the swype libSwypeCore.so in /system/lib/ and then installing the apk but I get errors)
How or what do I need to do to go about restoring swype on my slide?
As mentioned, are you pushing the files when in Recovery,? If not, you have to be in Recovery to push files to anything in /system.

Yes I pushed them in recovery and i verified the lib is in /system/lib
When I try and do the adb install swype.apk I get a dex error (probably cause the swype.apk is from a odexed rom and cm6 isn't)
nevermind, I fixed it. Swype works now.

How did you end up fixing it? I'm sure others would love to know, and also, I was about to say, if it is an odexed APK it can't run without it'd .odex file, so you would have to use the ROM kitchen to de-odex the apk to use it with a deodexed rom. How did you end up fixing it anyway, if it wasn't by deodexing it?
I got the Swype_1.60.36.8214_HVGA.apk (which is the one that works on the slide in cm6.1).
I had to manually make room on /system for the libSwypeCore.so file though since /system was full (I moved Youtube.apk and a couple other non essential .apks to /data/app) then I opened the apk in 7zip, extracted the .so file, manually put it in /system/lib and THEN installed the .apk and swype worked just fine.
Anyway, it works now and my 70 year old father is happy with his first android experience (a white mytouch slide running cm6.1 @844mhz)
Well if you every have issues with it installing when you flash the rom or if you do it with adb I made a zip to do it. It's handy if you don't have computer around with adb installed (like me - damn work computer). I'll remove the actual Swype.apk so I don't get any lashings from the mods.
This might help next time you some one tries to install swype since it gets picky sometimes. Also, Swype 1.6* is HUGE (12MB), you may want to open the apk and take out a lot of the files since it's multi language and I'm sure most of us only use one, maybe two languages.

Do you think it would work with the Swype.HVGA.2.15.56.14870-English_only.apk?

Yeah it will work as long as the phone will accept the apk, some swype versions are not well liked by our phone. You'll need to drag and drop your swype apk into the system-app folder then install.
Just use an archive explorer like winrar or 7zip to open (without extracting) the zip. Find your swype file, then drag and drop it into the app folder (inside the system folder). You can use adb to install it but I just flash it in clockwork.

All right, now I've got a problem.
I tried flashing the zip that KCRic and I must have downloaded a bum Swype, or one that just doesn't work... But now when I start my phone, it force closes right off the bat, and from there I can't remove it by going into Manage Applications. Everything there is greyed out.(Except Move to SD card, which doesn't work anyways)
Is there some other way I can get rid of it? Maybe thru ADB... Or an easier way? Haha.

Yeah the phone is s-on, meaning /system is read only. You have to reboot into clockwork recovery, go to partitions, mount /system, then in command prompt, type adb shell, then rm /system/app/apkname.apk, whatever the name of swype is obviously replacing apkname.

Slow Rotation on EF02? FIX HERE!!

I recently odined EF02, and it works awesome except for one thing.
The screen rotation is very slow. I want it to be like EE03, Is that possible?
And is there any way I can root it?
Thanks
EDIT: I finally got rotation to work on EF02!!!
Here's how I did it:
1. I odined back to the EC05 modem to fix all GPS issues.
To Odin to EC05 Modem:
Download this:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20210101/ec05modem.tar
Then Download Odin:
Odinhttp://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&drKey=1359&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D1052813&v=1&libid=1306116834963&out=http%3A%2F%2Fk0nane.info%2From%2Fodin-pit.zip&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fforumdisplay.php%3Ff%3D716&title=%5BHow%20to%5D%20Restore%20a%20semi-bricked%20Epic%20or%20Bring%20it%20back%20from%20the%20brink!%20-%20xda-developers&txt=http%3A%2F%2Fk0nane.info%2From%2Fodin-pit.zip
Enter Download Mode, then flash it
2. Then download SFR 1.2 final, (it does not come with a kernel, so you will need to flash it, I'd recommend the genocide kernel for the time being), Rotation should still be slow, until you apply this fix:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKECs764ayE
Skip to 1:20 and apply that fix
3. Now your rotation should be fast, now we will want to go back to EF02 and keep fast rotation, so download and flash the EF02 Rom, here via CWM (wipe cache, data, dalvik cache, etc.):
http://holylivingfuck.com/Decad3nce/Samsung-Epic-EF02-DeOdex-Update.zip
4. Enjoy fast rotation, and if you want, you can go to the AA i1 rom, now, but you must do it after flashing the EF02 ROM located above because I tried flashing the i1 rom before that and I was stuck at a bootloop
I'm still downloading it but I would try the froyo fix
Download terminal emulator
Open it
Type su then hit enter
type system/bin/sensorcalibutil_Yamaha I think

Doesn't work anymore seeing how that file no longer exists in the system/bin/ folder.
Upside down method is all that remains and yes it is noticeably slower, about a 2 or 3 second lag on rotation.

Mine is slow also and the Terminal Emulator way no longer works.
mine works fine with the calibrate in the phone
Still lags 3-4 secs
I also have the screen lag problem still...
I've tried the "upside-down" calibrate method under screen settings with NO difference in speed.
This occurs for me even after using Odin on a pure EF02 .tar download.
It's also still there since I flashed the odexed version of EF02 after clean wiping in CWM.
Finally, I copied the sensorcalibutil (from an EC05 ROM) to the root of /SDCARD but when I try to run it, I get "permission denied."
Anyone have any other ideas??? I'm loving EF02 otherwise...
I've tried the calibration too, but still takes a couple of seconds to switch. It goes faster if I open and close the keyboard.

You probably need to change the permissions on this file to get it too run correctly. If you have a terminal emulator, navigate to this /SDCARD and execute the following command:
Code:
su chmod sensorcalibutil u+x
This should change the permissions to make it executable for you. You can then try to run the calibration utility again. If any of this is hard to understand for you, I caution you to forgot I've said anything. You don't want to go tramping about in here without understanding what you're doing.
Hope this helps!
You need to run it with su.

I did flash Chris's EF02Plus Kernal (link below) and it shaved a sec or so off the rotation lag and now makes it tolerable. His kernal also frees up alot of RAM under EF02 and works great (smooth) with NO issues for me so far...

Terminal emulator reboots?

I do recall in terminal emulator I used to be able to "su" and then "reboot recovery", straight to recovery I would go. Maybe my memory is foggy and perhaps it was my nexus one and G2 that did it and not this phone. I think at one point it worked on this device, now It just returns "sh: reboot: not found" . Was this perhaps something that changed from GB/ICS? Any insight would be helpful. Thanks

Maybe my memory is foggy and perhaps it was my nexus one and G2 that did it and not this phone. I think at one point it worked on this device, now It just returns "sh: reboot: not found" . Was this perhaps something that changed from GB/ICS? Any insight would be helpful. Thanks

Nope it works great. I just checked it on my ICS build
In order for it it work there has to be the reboot binary in sbin and xbin. If reboot isn't working in terminal check those direcotories and make sure there is a reboot. If it isn't there. Find a ROM that has it and copy the file into both directories and set permissions. Not sure right off what the permissions are but look at the permissions of a file already in there and set the new file to the same.
cool thanks for the info. ill look and see but if memory serves me correct it hasn't worked on any custom ics that ive ran yet. i still cant remember if blazer on GB did it or not.

It is something being removed, rather than added, as it works in stock ICS (and GB) using the ODIN OneClicks.

cool thanks for the heads up mr. hub. just throwing this out there but i can recall a time back when i would flash most custom roms there was a t.emu that showed in sayyy titanium backup but couldnt be run. i would generally download a 2nd t.emu from the play store like the one in the pic and the reboot commands worked. im currently on frankenstein ego rom and upon fresh flash there is no t.emu showing in titanium backup. Like previous times i just grabbed it from play store and it was a "no go". could that be the issue of what is being taken away?
just wanted to throw this pic up because this is deff different than the "root" response i used to get.

Do this..
su
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p9 /system
ln -s /sbin/recovery /system/bin/reboot
mount -o remount,ro /system
reboot recovery
Or something like that..

thanks chris, that did it. anybody have any thoughts on that 2nd pic i posted? with the "whoami" it used to always return "root" up until about the same time i noticed the reboot issue. i guess that one confuses me because i tuped "su" and the superuser allow/deny popped up and i clicked allow as isual. so with knowing that it seems odd to me that "whoami" returns "unknown". is that the same issue that was stopping the reboot command? sorry guys, i know its not real important it just helps me understand a little better about how things work.
