[Q] Has the 'not receiving SMS issue' been resolved in Android builds? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Android Development

Hey Guys,
I've been running MYN's latest Warm Donut on my Kaiser for a while now, and it was the first Android build I ever used after using WinMo forever. It's pretty nice, but I was considering switching back to WinMo today due to stability.
Basically, I don't receive about 50-80% of my SMS messages. I get them now and then, but most of the time, I don't receive SMS messages sent to me. When I first flashed the build, it seemed fine (at least I think it did, unless I wasn't receiving texts then too) but lately it's just been getting out of hand, as I miss important messages, and that is really making me want to switch back to WinMo.
Another thing is the battery life, which has been pretty brutal since I made the switch (I'm hoping that's been resolved by the number of posts here about that?)
Anyways, if someone can let me know if the SMS issue has been resolved, and if there's a certain android build in which it has been resolved, that would be verrrry much appreciated. I really love Android compared to WinMo, but the SMS and battery issues are driving me insane
Thanks in advance for any help

I am using Incubus26Jc's Super FroYo 2.2 rls15 and haven't had any issue with mms, maybe you can try that. I have an andboot folder zipped out there with all but the androidinstall file so if you are running on sd card you can use that. I haven't done nand yet as I like having winmo as primary so I can change up my droid install easily (and can pop the card into my laptop and access/change the system and data that way). Also make sure you don't use a notification tone too big or that may cause your phone to not load the notification correctly (this is an issue with most phones not just android or kaiser).

Any news on the SMS issue? I have it too using cyanogenmod or COS-DS and it's *really* annoying.

seems to be a radio problem, try to change the radio firmware.

New Strange Issue With Text Messages

Hi,
It has been ages since I have posted on here, first up I just want to say a massive thanks to the whole community as it is just quite amazing what is achieved here!
Right, on to the problem. I recently preformed the official WM6.5 upgrade, and firstly backed up all my data using SPB backup. After the restore it all seemed great, until I went to the text messages on a contacts page (the touch flow contacts message tab thingy-majiga to be more specific). All my previous messages were in a very strange order, and now if I press on a new message to see it in this tab - I cant read it as it is somewhere miles up the page, and it thinks all the other messages are newer, I have checked my calander and clock etc and it is all fine.
Its rather annoying, even more now the random message cant be sent error that was accuring before the upgrage when i sent messages from this contacts bit.
Apart from that I really like the upgrade, it all seems a lot smoother, Could of done with Sense 2.5, but its much better than nothing!
If anyone has a cure to this problem or has experienced similar please let me know.
Thanks
Oh, and as a PS. I would really prefer not to delete the old messages, there are some important ones in there.
I also had this problem . Everything is out of order and random times and dates are showing up in random places after I did a PIM Backup. Keep in mind this was on a brand new 6.5 device (AT*T TILT 2)
Now my messages load so slow and the entire messaging systme is sluggish beyond usability.
I've got the same problem, did anyone solved this yet? I used SPB backup. The WM6.5 messaging app works fine and places my messages in the correct order, but with Sense it's all random . Also tried Windows My Phone to sync, same result.
Btw, my first post on xda, love this site .

FIXED: SMS Timestamp Issue

UPDATE: I've found a fix for this issue - AWESOME!
Just go to the Android Market and install the SMS Time Fix app by Matt Precious.
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-mattprecious-smsfix-pAFq.aspx
It works perfectly, and updates the time stamp on all messages to relfect PHONE time and not network time. HINT: Make sure the "Last Resort" option is checked in the settings and offset is set to zero. This little app now makes the Evo Messages app usable. Finally...
Hope this is helpful info
So, I've been reading and experiencing several issues with SMS timestamps on the Evo 4G.
It seems there are three distinct issues with SMS timestamps on the the Evo and I believe they all have the same root cause.
Issue 1: When roaming texts are received with the wrong time stamp, offset by several hours (typically 4 or 5 hours off). This causes them to not be threaded in the conversation correctly. Very annoying.
Issue 2: When receiving SMS messages on any network (Sprint or Roaming), the time stamp is off by an hour. The result is the same as Issue 1, but a less extreme example.
Issue 3: When texting back and forth in quick succession, SMS messages are not logged in the order in which they are received, and received text messages ALWAYS appear before sent text messages if they are sent during the same minute, regardless of which one was actually sent first. This is also very annoying.
I believe the root cause is that the native Sense UI messaging app is using the timestamp of the tower of each SMS rather than using the time stored on the phone. To prove this, if you use Handcent and set it to use "phone time" and ignore the tower time, it works perfectly. The thing is that I don't want to use Handcent and I want to use the native app. Is there a setting that can be tweaked to fix this? Has anyone talked to HTC or Sprint about the issue and is a fix in the works?
For such a major problem, I am surprised more people haven't come forward. It's a pretty significant bug...
Thanks,
Matt_TX.

I agree and its getting really annoying since it causes me to miss texts.
NM, too easy
Has anyone talked to Sprint or HTC about it? I am sure there HAS to be a fix in the works. The good news is that the native Froyo messaging app does not do this (as far as I can tell). I used a Nexus One on T-mobile and it doesn't occur. It appears to be using the phone's timestamp, as it should...
As long as HTC don't apply their "logic" (or lack thereof) over Froyo, it should be fixed soon.
I also can't believe that Sense UI stops the user from having more than one Exchange account. Android 2.1 (Eclair) does this by default. Why on earth would they remove it?
Anyway, back on topic... Please please post with your thoughts and discoveries around the SMS timestamp issue.
Thanks!
How is this related to development?

I'm not sure what you mean by "NM, too easy". Can you explain or provide any insight. Please help if you can. For those of us with this issue, it's REALLY annoying. I apologize if the question is dumb and there is an easy fix.
I realize that some of you may not feel that it is related to development, but I disagree. For those geniuses out there that make ROM's, maybe there is some way to fix this with a setting or minor change in the Sense UI messaging app...
Additionally, there is no need to berate someone that's genuinely asking for help. It's obvious that this forum gets the most traffic, and it's obvious that the smartest "Evo User" minds are located here. I don't think there is any harm in reaching out for help, isn't that the purpose behind these forums
The samething was happening to me last night.

Agreed. If its not happening with Handcent nor the AOSP apk, then its a direct HTC issue.
General Discussion. Also, probably not really that urgent.
./agree on all poins with OP.
I posted in Q&A about this same issues, with no replies 8(.
Anyway, I thought it was related to the modified prl that I installed. However it would do it even when I was on the stock prl.
Long story short, I called sprint and said I was having the issue. They said they were going to refresh something on their side, to wait 20 mins then power cycle the phone.
Did that and to my surprise it worked! Then yesterday I re-flashed a custom rom and the sms timestaps went all wonky. /sigh
suck it up and use handcent or chomp, they are overall better apps, just not as nice of a UI.
this has been a problem for quite some time. I've looked everywhere for a solution. This was a problem on winmo phones as well.
I switched to handcent and never looked back. Once you get it all customized, it's awesome.

look at this guy.
handcent didn't work on my froyo rom, not sure about chomp, didn't try it.
at work i always have this problem, texts are recieved 5 hours into the future, whereas the ones i send are the correct time. occasionally ones they send are the correct time so i have to scroll up and down and it is very annoying.
not a fan of handcents pop up notifications, i guess i could turn em off.
guess i'll just 'suck it up'

SMS/MMS Texting lag

I don't know either its my phone that lags or the rom, but recently after installing Energy rom, going into sms mode to send a text to someone takes at least 10 seconds. Is there a fix for this? Or is it my phone's problem
I've read that it's got something to do with WinMo 6.5. I don't have in depth knowledge of the topic myself. All I can tell you from my personal experience is that I've seen the same lag ever since I got off of the stock Sprint 6.1 ROM. (Been using variations of MightyRom ever since). It aggravates the hell out of me.
I bought this phone because, at the time, it was the best Windows Mobile phone on the market. If this was the best, I'd hate to see the worst. It doesn't even do simple BS like SMS as well as my old throw-away LG dumbphone did. Don't even get me started on the lagginess, freeze-ups and other pains of the 'advanced' functions...
Yeah with my TP2 whenever I open a text convo, do my thing, then exit.. it takes atleast 10-15 seconds to un-freeze into the All Messages window.. tried clearing the ram, but still nothing..
This is horrible! I recently started having this problem, if you have a really long text message conversation, the phone becomes completely un******* usable. I threw mine out the window of my truck today I was so aggravated. Mine has gotten to the point that you have to pull the battery out, or wait 5-10 minutes after you close out the text messaging thread. I'm getting an Evo - I really want to stay on TP2 but if I cant even text message, this phone/winmo 6.5 is totally junk. I'm hoping someone has a fix or tweak for this.
The only solution is to purge your messages, Arcsoft likes to load up all the messages before allowing you to do anything, sucking up alot of RAM and CPU, so less messages = less work, you could also try the classic text messaging (non threaded), the new overclock app kinda helps with this stuff. And the HTC messaging client as a last resort. the structure of the app is different and it doesnt take quite as long to load the messages, and it unloads itself much quicker than arcsoft in my experience.
I try to not to keep any SMS older than 2 weeks. I'm not one of these SMS crack-junkies that likes to keep 20k messages on their phone. I only regularly text maybe 4-5 people, so I never have more than a couple hundred messages on my phone at any given time.
I'd actually delete them sooner, but there's no decent app to purge based on message age. SMSPurger is a slow, buggy piece of junk, and nobody else seems to have written an alternative.
That brings me back to my old LG phone. It had a function where it would auto delete the oldest message once the combined sent/received list hit 300(?) messages. New message comes in, oldest one gets deleted. Why is it my WinMo superphone can't do something this simple?
If the issue is that you want an auto delete program, then the reasoning is that No one like to develop for WinMo, and the SMS has kind of always been an issue on the Professional Version, I had no problems with the SMS on my first WinMo device, the Moto Q9h (kinda miss it). I have had SMS issues on all 4 of my PPCs LG CT810 (incite) hTC Raphael (Touch Pro), Rhodium 210 (Touch Pro 2) and Rhodium 300 (Tilt 2). Best solution I have had, purchase Sms-chat if you really like your texting, It was lag free, and worked 100%, the only thing that I didnt like was the cheesy iPhone rip off. The main reason I still get WinMo is because I HATE apple. - but anyway, your issue is suffered by many, and it might take a while to solve.
hi
Just install the fix from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=664915
I did it and it solved problems with sms in manila 2.5- no need to purge or delete long conversations.

[Q] Synergy Issue

Hey guys, I put Synergy (non-Godmode) on my girlfriends phone. It ran great at first, but for the past week or so she hasn't been able to send or receive picture messages, and sometimes she isn't getting texts. And she says her internet has been super slow since she started having texting issues. Now, I'm not entirely sure this is an issue with the ROM, combined with the fact that I can't post in the Dev area yet, I figured this was appropriate. Any help is appreciated!

I also had several issues with synergy. I tried both versions. It seems it is cache locking on my hardware version 0004 and caused all sort of lag drag drop issues. I would suggest Mikg on her phone B/c it seems to be specific it certain hardware within the 0004 hardware set. I was able to temp cure this issue you describe with prl update and v6 script but it came back days later. Try Mikg
hacked ass EVO. Mikg 2.58/aggresive freedom .9 universal
I would start by going into recovery and wiping Cache and Dalvik Cache and seeing if that does not help.
Are you using Titanium Backup to freeze anything?
No, I don't have Titanium Backup on her phone for anything other than restoring apps. I might just try a new ROM. I'll report back, thanks guys!
Well depending on what apps you are restoring, sometimes Titanium resotres them to the phone memory, then you have to push them to the SD card. Without doing the push, then you will lose all the phone memory space and that has a huge effect on lag.
ALSO, does she use Handcent or the stock messaging app? If so, the widgets do not work unless the program is on the phone memory. Well, that also means that all the texts and mms messages will also be on the phone memory. After a couple hundred texts and dozens of pics, you run out of memory quick. An app like GoSMS Pro allows you to move EVERYTHING to the SD card, and then get the GoSMS widget to install on the phone memory and all is good space wise.
That is all I can think of as I had that problem at first, once I figured out the extra 2 steps to titanium and the SMS problem, I have been hassle free for months.

[Q] Not receiving some texts (sms)?

Desire HD with Lord C's 5.5 ICS Rom.
I've had a few problems with the rom so am doing a full wipe and upgrading to 6.1, with as few titanium backup restores as possible this time.
I've had a few texts not appear on my phone? They show up as sent on other people's phones but I don't get them? Happened twice in two days, with two different people (one from an iphone 3gs and another from an android, not sure what phone). I have hundreds of texts with these people and didn't ever experience this on gingerbread roms (I used ARHD and CM7 for about 6 months each).
Any idea what might cause it? I'm using stock sms app, and I'm about to do a full wipe and upgrade from 5.5 to 6.1.
I opened go SMS and didn't see them; they aren't on my phone and I don't receive notifications of them.
Thanks
I see you're on Orange. I would say that is your problem.
Nowadays it only happens every now and again. You should get the messages in a few days.
Sent from The App that Time Forgot.
I'm not convinced; there was one that was sent on the 9th march that I haven't ever received, and I've only had the issues since ICS.

dropped texts are a very common problem across any network and phone. Lord knows how many fights ive had because of a text that said "do you miss me?" that i never got lmao. Anyways, what specific data are you restoring from backup with tibu? I'm sure the answer is no, but were these texts sent to you during your upgrade process of flashing the phone?
In the UK texts are actually really reliable; obviously you don't always know when they haven't delivered (orange charge like 3p per delivery report, no thank you to an extra £30.00 a month!) but I've never had anyone mention "oh, didn't you get my text" or feel that someone had ignored me pre-ics upgrade. I assumed that their phone was the problem, but after it happened several times I've decided it was me
No they weren't send/received during flash; I tend to flash a rom and then (as long as it's stable) stick with it. The last time I flashed a rom was a couple of weeks ago, and only as an upgrade.
TiBu is just restoring small things like wifi netwrosk and fruit ninja scores haha
Having full-wiped and restored SMS, call-log, re-setup accounts and got the majority of my apps all sorted, the phone seems quite stable. Had 2 reboots during the first hour or so but I think that's probably down to everything running for the first time, it seems rather stable now.
I've got alogcat running & saving logs to sd card so we can see what's causing any reboots if they occur too!
