Hi all,
I have a great app that collected 4g signal data from other users that allowed you to see where 4G was available. Anyone know the name of the app? Thanks!
Sensorly MapViewer.

Can't find it in the market. 2.2 only?
C'mon epic, get with the 2.2!
I found it -- it calls itself "Sensorly MapViewer" when run it, but is in the market with a more descriptive prefix:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.sensorly.viewer
Although I agree about the 2.2 sentiment anyhow.

Ok, can someone please explain to me the benefits of rooting? I have been reading thread after thread for days now...and nobody ever says why they root. They just do it. I assume you can wifi tether for free, but what else? Can you install froyo on the evo? Also, once I root, do I have to update for the rest of the life of the phone using ROMs that I get here? Sorry for this extremely basic question as I'm sure there is an obvious thread I am missing.

With rooting comes
tethering
custom ROMs (including FroYo)
themes
bootscreens
deleting any apps, like the Sprint ones
and much more.

while we are noobing it up here can someone tell me exactly what the RADIO means in these radio updates? is it the actual fm radio or is it the reception signal for phone calls and 3g?

The RADIO refers to all of the firmware related to running the radio hardware. So yes, it should include 4G, but I could be wrong.
ok another noob question since I dont want to flood the forums with my own threads.. How do you disable the bootup sound without being rooted/nand unlocked?

I don't think you can without root and nand
The lack of proxy support is a real black eye for the platform. I'm wondering whether this is something that can be solved by developers for rooted EVOs.

then its safe to say other devs could do it? the code is public, right?
Not touching CM6, its not for me.
Really don't see why this thread needed to be moved, it only concerns rooted Evo owners and is very much a development issue. XDA has a different posting culture and I'm still trying to figure out what is and isnt acceptable, its never really clear
i guess we should just assume that unless you post on a thread started by a dev that the thread is going to get moved regardless
I've read 50 or so post's related to this issue and I'm well aware of what I should have done (nandroid backup). I ordered my phone June of last year and rooted it as soon as it was possible. (it's out of warranty/ no TEP). I don't even remember what method I used to gain root but I know there's no Wimax backup. Last night I was able to get a Sprint supervisor to give me my Wimax key#. If I had a backup Wimax.img from someone else would it be possible to edit the file and insert my key#? Please, no d-bag comments
Post this in evo4g q&a and you will get some responses
How do you know your wimax keys are gone?
Where do you check for those?
Sorry for the newbie questions...I'm new to Android

You can use the wimax keys checker app and it'll tell you they're gone. Also if you can't connect to 4G for any reason, that is a good indicator.
And to the OP, if you can get one, you can TRY it, but I don't know what will happen.

Awesome, thanks!
In short, you can flash a donors wimax.img and get 4g working.
This thread seems to have a lot of info on fixing wimax.

Okay, so my mouth has been watering over AOKP since it came out. I love the build, but I can't use it at my house due to its lack of Wifi Calling. I've tried pulling the apk from stock Touchwiz, but to no avail. I didn't expect that to work, but its all I could think of. Would it be possible to create a patch to flash on AOSP ROMs that would allow for wifi calling? I've seen it implemented in CM7 on the HTC Espresso, (a device where the last official HTC release was froyo) so I have a little hope. So I'd like to ask kindly, would someone please help me or work with me on a solution? I have google voice, but it doesnt support MMS, so I cant troll anyone with my meme app I pretty much live in Deliverenceville so reception is a joke on any carrier Thanks in advance. I really appreciate any help.

Wow! thats a cool thread! Its sad to see all the negativity.. cuz i know with all the work been done for these phones so far.. I know someone can figure it out..
I feel like a nuisance but I post everywhere and I can't seem to get an answer from any community or blog, as in an answer, I mean response haha.
Background, on T-mobile rooted and running PACMan ROM 20.0.1
1. I can't get my Wifi tether to work for free? Everyone says after rooting it should tether for free and not get the message, doesn't seem to work? Have the work-around by using the "Agent Switcher" on Google Chrome, but would still like to know why it won't work.
2. My phone's been stuck on 3G for a very long time. Possibly after I rooted and flashed the ROM, don't remember exactly but I haven't seen the H or 4G in over a month.
3. Super crappy battery life. If I leave my tether on for an hour. I lose 20%+ of my battery(tested it). Everyone's battery seems to get better after the rooting and such.
I try to follow all these steps on the forum and none of them work/remedy my solutions.

1. Read more, I'm not positive on this but I think no matter what, they will eventually stop it. Unless you have paid for it, so pay for it I guess.
2. Flash latest modem, it will let h+ icon happen when cell data is requested. Been covered soooo many times.
3. Depends on what you do, how you use you're phone... my battery is always better on touchwiz ROMs but very good still on aosp style ROMs. Play with kernels and mess with settings to find what your phone likes. Not what mine likes what yours likes.

1. It works because it pretends to be a mobile device. It may stop working eventually, too, though.
2. Check that you have not lost your IMEI.
3. Use something like BetterBatteryStats and look at what is draining the battery and then make changes accordingly if possible or consider extended / extra batteries.

Before you even bother with that, when you're actually using your data i.e. doing the speedtest or stalking that girl on FB, does it switch from 3G to H? Because, rooted ROMs will show 3G until there is enough demand for it to switch to 4G speeds.

Ermm, is there a way I could test that? What's enough of a demand that would need the H? I haven't seen it whenever I stream stuff or anything like that.

No, its still 3G uptop.
Test different modems/radios. The radios determine how your data works and testing different ones could fix your issue and also give different download/upload speeds. Just test each one and see which one works best for you Be sure to flash radios intended only for the T999. Otherwise, you will hard brick your phone.
