got a stock evo 2.1 rooted it.. with clockwork installed custom rom and kernel updated to 2.2 everything is okay used romanger to go back between clock work and arom... but still cant get the adb commands to work... actuall just trying to push a spc mp3 file tried replacing with root explorer no go

One thing a lot of us had trouble with going from 2.1 to 2.2 was the su app didn't like being bundled with a rom. Uninstall your su app and install the one from the market.
Let us know if this fixes it.

What is that file used for?
Where is it in the system?
Is that the audio that plays during the boot animation?

yes it does im assuming the stock recovery uses the red exclamation... now i have the yellow one i tried to remount and i get an error.....

so why must we adb on the 2.2 when the 2.1 all you needed was root explorer? to change boot animation and sound.....

The boot animation in 2.2 is a single .zip file. Boot animations are something I haven't gotten into much (on the EVO) so I'm not sure how it was on 2.1 but I'd guess it was more like the Hero where it was a .gif or two and a sound file.
When the boot animation is packaged in a single .zip file you can't just swap out parts of it. You'd have to unzip it, change what you want, and make sure the xml (if there's on in there) is adjusted accordingly. If you swapped the sound file for one that was of the same name you'd probably be fine to rezip and drop the whole zip back in there.
This is pure speculation though. I may be totally wrong. If I were gonna try to customize my boot though that's where I would start.

You can use pushboot found in the development section to change the sound and/or the bootanimation.

Cool, dl'ing virus rom now so I can see exactly what you're working with.
Are we sure you actually do have su permissions and it was just an issue with this boot animation package?
Can you mount your /system as R/W in root explorer?

Same goes for 2.2. Just swap out the files in /system/customize/resource/ I've also seen them in /system/media/ depending on which rom you're using.

How to Get Rid of "DROID" sound on new 2.2 RUU Bootup

Anyone know how to get rid of the STUPID "DROOOOIIIIDD" sound when the Incredible boots up?
I'm rooted and have S-OFF, so I should be able to do anything I need to make it happen.
Thanks!
gbruyn, what's up man!? Were ya been hiding lol, how they heck have you been here over two years and this is only your 16th post?
There's a few places it could be. I use root explorer for this.
look in system, then customize, then something else, it will be a .zip on top of the boot animation it self, keep the boot animation but delete the .zip for the sound. you can check to make sure its the right file by opening it and itll play the sound, if its the boot up sounds you know its right.

So do I just delete it? Won't the file subsystem look for that file and give me an error?

[Q] Custom boot animation from movie clip?

Im interested in making boot animations using movie clips, but im not sure where to start. I have book marked a few how-to's to get started (have to work in a min so ill read up later) but none of them seem to describe using a video in the boot animation. Any help would be great, thanks.
I am pretty sure it has to be a series of png's
Maybe you could find an app that can take the movie clip and split into a series of images? but then you would have to deal with extracting the audio and seems like it would be quite the headache!

+1 to this.
It DOES have to be a series of PNGs and it WOULD be a MAJOR headache!
I figured itd have to be a series of images, as for the audio I should be able to extract the audio as mp3 from the source. Syncing the 2 might be an issue. Any tools for making boot animations?

I know im full root, and im using Android mate to root explore. Cant find an option to edit permissions for the folder.
Any ideas here, ive tried adb, 2 different boot animation changer script/programs, and using a file explorer.

if using adb you have to give yourself SU first by typing adb shell then SU
if using root explorer, go to settings and then go to Root options (all the way to the bottom) and check Mount File System.
Hope that works! =D
btw, sometimes Root Explorer might be temperamental so you might have to uncheck and check again the box..
Make sure you zip file is in storage format. Make a flashable zip if you can much easier.
How do i go about making it a flashable zip?

I appreciate it and will try it out, but could someone maybe explain the process of creating a flashable .zip in general (i intend to do this for bootanimations & possibly splash screens) and if that process differs for bootanimation/splash screens.
What makes it flashable? Just the script? If so whats the syntax for the script?
Thanks again

[Q] Removed Boot Sound - Permanently gone?

Soon after I rooted my phone on launch day, I manually disabled the boot sound (unfortunately, I don't remember which method). Now, regardless of which ROM I flash, I NEVER have a boot sound. Can someone help me out and let me know how I can about troubleshooting this further?
I've tried the obvious, by checking if the ROM I'm flashing has one (it does), and looking through Root Explorer to add a mp3 in various places, but nothing seems to work. Am I missing something very simple here?
you have to have a music file with the same name and format in the same location as in stock.
Same ROM's have different directory's for boot sound and animations. Check next two..
system/customize/resource (stock rom)
system/media (fresh & calkulin rom)
Edit: Btw I have try it, and does replace animation on Calkulin but still no sound... Which ROM are you using?

This may be my issue. I'm using CM7 (DESTROYED - link to forum below) so there is no system/customize directory. Can I just create it and put something in there? Does it need to be named specifically? android_boot.mp3???

See above - CM7 - Destroyed. I don't have an issue with the animations at all, just the boot sounds.
Stock file is called SPC_animation_final.mp3 but check witch someone who have same rom like you.

NO. You cant do that, must be specific (based on rom)
Tried to create system/customize/resource directory manually, copied the mp3 from system/media that came with the ROM and pasted into that new directory, renamed it android_audio.mp3 with no avail. Still no boot sound.
Tried renaming that to SPC_animation_final.mp3 and same result. Anything else I can try?

Download the attachment and move it to SD card.
Use Root explorer and go to " /system/customize/resource"
copy the original "ATT_boot animation" somewhere safe.
delete it and move the boot animation from the SD card to "/system/customize/resource"
you will have to mount it probably
for me i changed the permission so its "rw-r--r--"
if any question msg me =) hope it works
here a link for the boot sound

i dont know if it has to be 3sec, i just said that for a safety issue incase it did cause bootloops and since this is 2 boot animations, you can always delete the HTC boot ainmations and leave the ATT just make it longer and maybe the sound will go as long as the ATT boot animation
edit-
also i should be more clear on that lol i just wanted the end part where he gets slapped to the face, and the sound to that is around 3 secs itself so should work out

I wonder if this limitation is hardcoded or if it's just a script limitation. If it's a script limitation it could be overrided to allow longer audio.

Yes, it is a script limitation, so i am currently looking now for a tut to atleast increase it to 10 seconds or so.

The xml may work, its just telling the phone to look for Bootsound.mp3 and Bootanimation.zip
instead of actually looking for the branded name, this will work but would need to be fixed for our phones, you can do this yourself actually
i wouldnt flash that xml as its specific to the mt4g,
you can to your xml
go to settings/customize/resources open the xml
and scroll to boot configuration
there just rename the "ATT.." to bootanimation
and the ATT...mp3 to bootsound.mp3
from there when you make bootanimation or booutsound no need to rename it to "ATT...zip" or "ATT...mp3"
make sure you back it up first and for really cautious nand back up

Ok. Example: Say I take a .zip file that you have made for me and I download it. I boot into recovery mode and find the file and flash it, gives me the message that it has completed but when the phone reboots it's no where to be found. Did it not install or is there a place I need to look on my phone that it might be hidden?
just because its a zip file, doesnt mean it has the install routine baked into it..
As Twansky said, what is the file, and what is it for?

Ok. The files that I've tried would be mods for toggles, keyboards, and different add ons. For the most part, all of the files that I've flashed have worked. The ones that didn't work I'm not disappointed that they didn't, I was just wondering if possibly there was something or somewhere that I needed to look to see if they actually did but needed to activate per say. Could you explain what you mean by "install routine baked in" please. I'm a noob and learning everyday.
Thank you
some of those zip files, were probably just a bunch of individual files, zipped up to save room, and make them just 1 file insted of many..
a "flashable" zip file will have a few folders, one being meta.inf, another being system, along with some others...
post one of those zips that you are having a problem with here, and we will take a look at it..

Wase, let me see if I still have them on my phone. I know a couple that I tried were rom specific but one worked and one didn't. Those are the ones I expected not to work. Give me a minute to see what I still have.

This is one that didn't work that is for ROM XXDLL4. Another file that I downloaded is the glass dialer did work. What I guess I'm asking is, why would one work but not the other. I know these were fir that specific rom, I'm just confused on why one would work and not the other.

Sorry, I did not answer that part.
Boot into recovery>Find location where file was downloaded>Click to install>Confirm install>Install confirmed>Reboot.
I have tried wiping cache and not wiping cache.
Open up these "zips" and look inside..
yeah, it was a flashable zip..no idea why it wouldnt work, but, as you said, this is not a mod for our phone specifically, so that might be why..Just like anything else electronic, not every rom/mod/flashable file is going to work on every phone; thats just the way it is...

Exactly... use caution flashing "flashable" zips unless you know for a fact it accomodates your specific device. You need to look in the META-INF folder and review the updater-script. In there you will see specific BLKs (partitions) which are mounted/extracted/written/unmounted. Devices don't all use the exact same "/dev/block/mmcblk0xx" for /system or /data partitions. Some of these scripts are fairly universal but I've seen others which call specific devblock partitions.
Thank you everyone for the help on this. I finally got brave enough about a hour ago and flashed a custom rom fir the first time.
Thanks again for all the help and info.
