[FIX] ++++ bell users 3 button combo fix!!!!!!!!!!! +++++ - Galaxy S I9000 Android Development

http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=10150262535205538&id=260085296049
It says it will wipe everything. So a complete backup is needed.
I am still quite new to this. Forgive me, but what is the BEST way to back up EVERYTHING -- including apps and contacts and SMS etc.
I have Titanium Back up Pro (and im rooted) though I haven't really used it yet -- is this the best ?
Is there any good apps out there ? Any good programs I should know ?

I just saw this too. Unfortunately, I've upgraded to JH2. The facebook post says you need JG9.
We can use this post for our flash guide using Kies:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=766589
Now... how can we locate a JG9 firmware image? I cannot find it on samfirmware. I guess we'll need to flash back to get this update.
I'll update my post when I find information, but feel free to post how we can get back to the JG9 firmware if I'm off base.
- Titanium backup is good to backup apps and data.
- I've used SMS Backup and Restore to backup SMS.
- Contacts are backed up by Google itself as is the calendar.
- APN data might have to be re-entered manually. There is an APN backup and restore as well.
- I'm not sure if call log data can be backed up and restored.

Too late for my phone
but great news

I find titanium hard to use, undestand and unreliable. Mybackup pro is waaaay better.

Is it just me or didnt my phone update to that firmware weeks ago when I got the thing... Some fix Samsung, thanks alot for wasting the last 2 weeks of my life waiting on you to come up with a resolution.
Please someone tell me im wrong... lol

If you have attempted to resolve the three-button recovery issue by upgrading the device to JH2 using a version of Kies earlier than 1.5.110074_45 and the recovery procedure is not working, please visit a Bell authorized dealer to have the device returned to a Samsung authorized service centreto have the issue resolved.
WHAT ?????

I installed JH2 via Kies something like 2 weeks ago. 3 button recovery/download is still not working. The Facebook page helpfully recommends taking it back and getting it serviced, but I think I'll wait until it's bricked.

I guess our only hope is for someone to tell us how to safely downgrade..

Just downgrade to JG9 then do the update.. its a different version of JH2 that is up for download via KIES it updates the SPL. were the old one didn't

Im hoping someone can get KIES to downgrade to JM9, so that we can update to JH2 using the supposed new version of KIES. Dont really see how this will make any difference, but heres to wishful thinking.

Any idea how I can go about getting the JG9 firmware?

Does anyone have a download link for JG9? Pretty sure you can get kies to flash any rom you want by fiddling with the registry.

this is awesome news. im still on the stock firmware. ive been scared to update to ANYTHING due to this problem. i havent even rooted the thing.
im gonna wait and see what the results are for other people before i do this too. maybe im paranoid but it doesnt hurt to be patient i guess.

Sorry was trying to quote you.. Anyway Id love to get back to the previous firmware, Any idea how to go about that? Ive seen people redirect KIES to other Firmwares, ie the new Froyo build, but havent seen anything to go back.

Hmm...
This "new" JH2 which should fix the "3-button combos" is a low package.
Maybe Kies (Odin SS_DL) is able to update the bootloader, because Odin does not seem to be able to do it.
If someone wants to try it with Odin, I can upload the file.

Hey man I am with you I think. I haven't done NO upgrades or firmware updates. Why? b/c I can't get Keis to work
So I'm still on stock.
My phone says this:
Original Production Software:
PDA: I9000UGJG9
PHONE: I9000UGJG9
CSC: I9000BMCJG9
I've only rooted my phone and used the 1-click-lag-fix
So questions -- once I upgrade my phone via Keis do I have to re-apply 1-click-lag-fix ?
do I have to un-root my phone before I upgrade via Keis ?
Thanks guys

@richthofen
Does this mean it is definitifly a software issue or could it still be an hardware issue since the older stock firmware can be updated and the newer roms can not..

Its software and it has been all along.. its the SPL Boot-loader... all they have done is get KIES to flash the boot loader this time.. in the past when you changed roms the bootloader was not changed.. now this flash with update the boot-loader with the fix..

Hmm, I updated a few weeks back to JH2. Its been running fine, but having that 3 button ability would give me more peace of mind. They suggest bringing it to a dealer for warranty replacement/repair if we've already upgraded - seems a bit excessive. I'm wondering if this "bootloader" alteration will be included in future firmware updates perhaps? Like froyo (hopefully in a few weeks)? If that's the case, I'll just wait for that instead of trying to flash back to JG9, then back forward to the "new" JH2.
Any word/thoughts on if this bootloader thing is a one-time deal from JG9 to new JH2 only?
- Goatblaster

I would assume that most people that want the 3-button fix are the kind of people that upgraded to JH2 as soon as it was available and thus with a version of kies "prior to 1.5.110074_45". Therefore most people will fall into the category where they must return the phone for service as explained in samsung FB note.
This is bizarre... even if the new firmware is the same as JH2 except for the low level stuff, they could have given it a new name just to allow kies to upgrade it. Instead they are explicitly telling us to send the phone back! It really looks like they are shooting themselves in the foot. Why not tell us to wait one week for Froyo and get the new boot loader + froyo at the same time. Returning it to Samsung will take much longer.
Also, there are a lot of users who did upgrade to JH2 using the latest Kies, and not one of them has emerged saying it fixed the 3-button issue.
Either Samsung has failed big time on this, or the statements on FB are not legit.

android ver 4.1.1 after updating through odin

i followed the unroot galaxy s3 thread because i accidentally pressed update when OTA update popped up on my rooted phone.
downloaded the latest android zip and updated with ODIN.
but it doesnt show 4.2 it still shows 4.1.1 android.
im a bit confused.
theres just too much **** available and i lost track of all these build numbers and updates and different programs.
i dont spend much time here anymore after i got rid of the HD2 and now im completely lost.
got other stuff to do cant afford spending 3 hours a day to stay on top of latest repackaged rom release

4.1.1 UVDLJC is the latest official firmware.
oh ok then i thought it was 4.2 for some reason
one more question that i could not understand clearly
once i root the phone again. what specific services do i need to disable to prevent the automatic OTA updates?
i disabled one service related to update but didnt see any others.
and once rooted. do i have to unroot it in order to use odin and manually install OTA update that i downloaded?
im not planning to use custom roms( spent toomuch time making them wrk on HD2 and done with that for good)
jsut stock tmobile roms work fine for me.
thanks for quick reply i was about to try flashing again since i thought that it was supposed to be 4.2 version

You don't have to do anything with ota. When next one comes out you can unroot and install the ota as long as you hav stock recovery. If you have custom recivery you can always update with Samsung kies but you would need to reroot the new ROM. Or just flash a ROM through Odin.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

[Q] Didn't know you couldn't downgrade 4.3 Now im stuck?

I tried to downgrade the ota 4.3 update, i didnt know you couldnt upgrade..
Now im stuck at the Firmware upgrade encountered an issue screen..
Kies 2 will start saying "connecting" but thats as far as it gets.. then Kies 3 says that the device thats plugged in isnt compatible with kies 3.
IDK what to do xD

Start up Kies (no cellphone connected), then go to Tools / Firmware Upgrade
It will ask you for the model number, so put that in.
Then it will ask you for either the serial number or MEID, so put that in, too.
Then it should download a big-ass android package (around 1.5 gigabytes).
After the package is decrypted, copy it from the temp directory to some safe place on your local hard drive.
Use Odin in Download Mode to install this package.
The package should end with .tar.md5
If you accepted the official OTA 4.3 update, and you tried to revert your bootloader back to before KNOX... you're lucky since that should have completely hard-bricked your phone. I think, given to your description and assuming you've got the KNOX bootloader now, your best bet would be to try to repair the install by doing what I think is referred to as a "dirty" flash... which basically means you don't format or wipe your data before you attempt another installation of the same version.
I don't know for sure though, so don't take my word without someone who knows more verifying or refuting this.
Good luck, I'll be interested in seeing what you wind up working out.

Second Hand Note II, cannot get cellular data

I apologize if i am not as clear in this post as I need to be. My dad tried to root his note 2 sgh i371 using odin but said that once he did this, he was unable to access the internet outside of connecting to wifi, he could not get any cellular data. Because of this issue, he tried to then un-root his phone by flashing 4.1.2 stock rom. Unfortunately, the issue of not being able to get cellular data persists. In his frustration, my dad bought a note 3 and gave his note 2 to me saying that if I could fix it I could keep it. This is my first android and I would like to make it my primary phone if possible. what I would like to simply to reset the phone to factory default settings by flashing the latest stock rom for the phone. I have Odin, I was hoping that someone could tell me where I could get the latest stock rom and, if they believed that flashing it would fix the cellular data issue. I do not believe my dad made a backup at all. Thank you in advance.

Sammobile has all the stock firmwares for our phones, check there. Also check in about phone to see what it says, if it says Baseband unknown, then the EFS folder (and subsequently IMEI #, etc) have been corrupted. It's possible flashing the latest stock firmware will fix it (it includes a new modem and all), so try that first.

Thank you very much for the advice. I am downloading the firmware now. baseband version is showing i317ucama4. Right now the phone is not activated with AT&T, is there a way I could test if I will be able to get cellular data before going to AT&T and activating it?

Well you're baseband is good. Just get a little cheap prepaid sim card for testing purposes. The stock firmware should fix anything in the modem or system that could have been corrupted... So flash that and have a cheap at&t Sim handy for testing.
Just use your father's sim card. Either it connects to the GSM network or it doesn't.

I attempted to flash the stock rom via odin v. 307 but I get a failed message. The phone shows I have a custom binary download (12 counts), official Samsung binar but, my system status is custom and my knox warranty is void: 1. Then there is a red message stating "unsupported version" at the bottom. The date for the stock rom was Jan 2013 AT&T, US on the sammobile site. I can no longer boot into the phone's OS, I am stuck in download mode until I manually restart and then it displays a message that I need to connect to Kies recovery. Thank you for the help so far, Any chance I can salvage this phone still? I did try going into Kies, but it cannot connect with my phone for some reason?

It sounds like the phone was updated previously to either 4.3 or 4.4.2, which have Knox and that pesky counter. Technically you can't directly downgrade, so be sure you're downloading firmware that is 4.3 or higher. I didn't realize sammobile only went to MA4 for US AT&T. (In a pinch you can use Canadian firmware, but we have other links for stock firmware). Also, don't worry too much about Kies. It can be helpful, but honestly I could never get my note 2 recognized by kies either.
When I get back from taking my kids to school, I'll gather some links that will help you revive this phone Links below:
@GreatGrizzwald:
More recent links to stock firmware: STOCK PACKAGES TO MK6 This is LJ2 (4.1.2), MK6 (4.3) and up. He's got all the stock firmwares, available for flashing either in recovery on via odin. I've highlighted the one I would use in the attached screenshot (MK6- ODIN)
He also has a thread for NE5 (The latest firmware, 4.4.2) HERE
So if MK6 doesn't work, try NE5. One of those two has to work. You're dad already updated to either 4.3 or 4.4.2, I don't know which so start with 4.3 (MK6) and if it doesn't work try 4.4.2 (NE5)
On those two threads, he has a TON of links that will be helpful to you in getting back to stock also.
And here's a reference page with some useful links: One Stop Shop
This one is dedicated to downgrading back to LJ2 (4.1.2) from 4.3+, it MIGHT come in handy for you: Downgrade Instructions
If you have trouble with the stock firmware, you can also try Chainfire's CF Auto Root. It's stock firmware but it's rooted. Try the other firmwares by Zen Arcade first though CF AUTO ROOT
We'll get it going for you The stock firmware will re-flash the modem and all the configuration files so you're data should work again. Then you can do whatever you want, root, recovery, flash other stuff, or leave it stock. You got this

Also you have to figure out if it's software or hardware. I'm inclined to believe it's software so I think if you get it back to stock you'll be good. If it was hardware, it wouldn't even recognize a sim being inserted (recently repaired an htc one mini with this problem, it needed a new Sim tray, thankfully it was only $20).
But it sounds more like a bad flash corrupted some of those important files and configurations controlling data connections, it's all good, if it's software it can definitely be fixed. If it were hardware it could still be fixed it would just be a bit more time consuming.
One more thing, after you flash the stock firmware, and you have a sim card to test with, make sure your apn settings are correct for whichever carrier you're using. If the apn is wrong, or there is no apn listed, it won't connect. If you need assistance with that, let me know.

There are a few reasons it won't flash. If it still says custom in download mode, for instance, from when your dad tried to root it. You can check in your about phone section to see if it says modified or official. It should say official there but when you're in download mode it will tell you your status:custom.
Something like
Model : SGH-i317
Binary count:
Firmware: Samsung official
Status: Custom (it should say official to receive OTA)
Knox warranty bit: 0x1 (from where your dad tried to root)
^Either of those last two can prevent an OTA from completing. The update checks for certain things and then continues or rejects based on those checks.
Also (and this shouldn't apply to you) if you have a custom recovery installed or you've rooted and removed pre-installed apps, it won't flash. Check those things and your OTA should work. If it still doesn't, you can download the ne5 firmware I linked you to before. That's official 4.4.2 firmware and it will update you to the latest via Odin if you can't take the OTA for whatever reason.
The firmware you flashed should have taken everything back to stock for you, but it wouldn't really reset the Knox counter & custom status... and that very well could would an OTA. It seems it does anyway, so just update yourself with Odin.
Lastly, if you really want to reset completely, and be able to OTA, you can do that downgrade method I linked before to completely reset your phone and allow you receive OTAs again. (It would take you ALL the way back to 4.1.2 and you would OTA back to 4.3-4.4.2. Personally, I wouldn't do all that unless I planned to sell it, because the firmwares that are released for OTAs are usually available on here to flash with Odin within a day of release, so you'll always be able to have the latest firmware regardless.
Hope that helps you didn't miss anything, it's just the nature of the OTA.
---------- Post added at 09:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:02 PM ----------
Edited to add, you can also go about it another way: root it and use triangle away to reset your custom status & flash counter and then reflash the same firmware you did yesterday. Then you should be able to OTA. (Although I'm not 100% on whether or not the Knox counter will interfere with the OTA update, I think it's just the flash counter that trips it).
And if you want the OTA notice to stop completely, you can root it and turn off the notifications entirely. I wasn't sure on whether you wanted to take the update or not... if you do, I'd just update with the latest via Odin. It's the simplest way to update and you wouldn't have any issues or surprises that people tend to get with OTAs.

Awesome, that makes a lot more sense now. Thanks again.
Hey I forgot you don't have custom recovery. Anyway, I sent you PMs,and you can do a search of this very forum- use the search term "update" or "ota" and you will find a LOT of threads on boot failures after OTA. Most people got their phones back.
If you can't get into DL mode (Vol-, Home, Power), try getting into the stock recovery (Vol+, Home, Power) because you should/could be able to factory reset the device from there. Also hold the button combo longer than usual. If one recovery option (DL mode) isn't working, than theoretically the other should still be accessible, through which you can adb sideload to the device or try factory reset. I know it's frustrating, but you're not the first nor the last to have an OTA go wrong ;/ We'll get ya back up & running.
You're not the only one in trouble after that update: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-2-att/help/todays-update-soft-bricked-phone-t2939649

Due to my phone having a lot of junk and being laggy I decided to flash the official firmware from any external method to have a clean install of the os. I heard about Samsung Kies which makes a back up of your phone and installs the latest os, I installed and backed up my phone last night but it didn't seem to give me an update on the os, it said "This is the latest version" (5.1.1 COK1).
My main concern about this is. I've bought this phone from Pakistan (used phone but in brand new condition) and I'm currently living in Malaysia and I have no idea who was the previous owner of this phone. In Kies it shows the phone number different than what I have (maybe its the Sprint phone number?).
What if my carrier is locked by having a clean install? Or any sort of other related issue occurs.
Please take some time to enlighten the facts from your knowledge, will highly appreciate it.
Regards.

Yeah but you totally missed my question here.
Its not that I don't want to do some research myself, I'm a student and I'm busy most of the time. So if anyone can take out their precious time to answer my question I'd really appreciate the help.
If you're concerned about your phone or sim getting lock..you can just use galaxy tools apk v3.1.5 & then upgrade the apk to v3.1.8 & it will unlocked it for you... but i doubt it will lock you down... maybe you can just try to back your rom completely & restore if any issues encounter
it's dependent on the way that they unlocked the phone, someone in vietnam has been locked after updated the phone, but my phone was not.

And I have no idea how my phone was unlocked, I just bought it like this. I can see the Sprint phone number on Samsung Kies maybe I should write an email to Sprint asking them to unlock it using that Sprint phone number?

Where is G891AUCU4CRH1 available to download?

I haven't use this site in many years so I apologize if this isn't the correct spot. I tried searching all over for an answer..
I got a brand new S7 off of eBay. The firmware that came on it was somehow messed up, even though it was in a factory sealed box. There were many odd things missing, including the option to OTA. I contacted Samsung and they remotely accessed the phone and confirmed that my software was jacked. Since the phone was new but old, it was out of warranty. Oddly, enough the guy suggested I flash new firmware myself, but would not provide a link. AT&T then told me that they can't flash software and don't even have it... it can only be done by FOTA, lol.
Google led me to a factory firmware. I flashed it via Odin and all was good. I then did the numerous OTA updates until I have the newest 8.0 and security patch.
Now my stupidity comes in... My Bluetooth and Wifi did not work well. My Wifi range sucked and my Bluetooth wouldn't see certain devices. Like an idiot, I figured a CP flash would help it. I flashed an older CP and bricked the phone. I scoured the internet and could not find the newest firmware.
I haven't flashed firmware in years and I should have read up more before doing so. My phone currently works but I hate the version I have as it's oddly different than the 8.0 firmware I got via FOTA. It was the only one I could find online that had the same baseband version that I currently had (G891AUCU4CRH1).
From my understanding, this newest firmware can't be downgraded so I'm stuck trying to find the actual AT&T FOTA update. Is this correct?
If anyone can let me know where to find it, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
Sam
Edit.. dumb me just needed to flash the CSC as well.
Found my own answer. Please delete this thread.
