Hey all, hopefully a simple question...
I finally sacked up and used the test version of Unrevoked on my Stock 2.2 Incredible. Booted up with the "superuser" icon. Finally got it to go back to Clockworkmod recovery screen to do a nandroid backup. Only problem is...it never said "nandroid" specifically, as I read in all the tutorials. It did have "recovery" and all the stuff I thought I'd see in the backup process. I ran the backup, and looked on the SD card in the Clockworkmod folder and there are all the backup files.
So basically am I seeing and using Nandroid, but it's not calling it Nandroid for some reason? If not, what should I be doing.
Thanks for the support...

Clockwork changed the menu options in one of the latest updates so it no longer says nandroid. But if you go to the backup and restore menu and select backup (as it looks like you did) you have your backup or "nandroid."
PS. Post this in the general section next time.
Thanks for the quick reply...and sorry about leaving the question here...

I have a rooted desire and never really tried restoring a backup and when I finally did I came across this error message:
No SD ext found. skipping backup of SD EXT
Generating MD5 sum
error while checking md5 sum!
chcking md5 sum....
MD5 mismatch!
My SD card has no partition whatsoever and I'm using fake flash by paul. My old phone was a N1 and I had no problem whatsoever doing this before. Is making a backup and restoring in the Desire an entirely different process?
Also how do you automatically backup apps in the Market? Meaning if I switch roms and just logged into my Google account the market would automatically "restore" my old apps. I used to be able to do this once in a while with my old N1 but I couldn't do it consistently. With my Desire I can't do it at all.
Thanks
It will give that error if you have no ext partition on your sd card. If you're not using apps 2 sd then you need not worry about it.
Other than that, try the latest clockwork recovery (2.0.1.4) and try a nandroid backup and restore.

Nandroid backup seems to work and I do get to see the file but when I try to restore it fails! Do I need to make an extension for it to work?
What about restoring apps from the marketplace via the internet? Like I said, I've done it a few times with my N1 wherein it automatically restores everything once I log in my Google account.
Thanks
Try creating an ext partition, convert ext2 to ext3. If it fails again, try backing up and restoring using the Nand using the latest Clockwork Recovery (2.0.0.7).
Your apps are linked to your Google account so when you sign in, they should be available for manual download.
You could also backup and restore your apps and data to your sd card using Titanium backup or MyBackup Pro (available from the Marketplace).

Apps are indeed linked but how do they become restored automatically? Like I said, I've done it before on my N1 with "applications restored" showing up on the notification bar.
Where do I get the latest clockwork recovery? Tried looking at the forums and came up empty. I just followed Paul's guide for rooting. Still don't understand why I can't restore from a nandroid.
thanks
I am not aware of any method to restore apps automatically from the Marketplace, i do it manually unless using a backup and restore app.
Try reading the fake flash thread on MoDaCo as i remember people had reported the same issue you are experiencing. What version of fake flash are you currently using?
You will find the Clockwork Recovery as an option in the ROM Manager app, which you can download from the Marketplace.

The easiest method is to use unreEVOked (link).
The earlier version of unreEVOked installed a much earlier version of clockwork recovery, and I found that the nandroid backup didn't work properly - it would seem to backup (albeit too quickly), but you couldn't restore due to the MD5 problem. I think it didn't actually ever complete the backup and generate the MD5s.
Version 2 hopefully fixes that problem - certainly Nandroid backups take a lot longer!
Regards,
Dave
Thanks guys.
Will look into unrevoked and try to get it to work. I'll also try to update my fake flash. I have been using the very first version when it came out and never really updated it lol
Updated my fake flash and it worked! Thanks guys!
Didn't know that the clockwork recovery was embedded into fake flash. I thought it was just an enabler or something.
Thanks again!
If you use unrEVOked you don't need Fake Flash, or vice versa.

Dave
Have still yet to try unrevoked, what exactly does it do when I plug it into my desire? Does it make me run Amon Ra's N1 recovery image? No more screen with the red triangle?

No problem bud, glad it worked out for you
When you enter Recovery, it loads the recovery image straight away, so you get a permanent custom recovery image when you hold power + home.
Will try it out thanks again! Currently experimenting with the Rom manager application. It's pretty neat and u can update the recovery image instantly. I take it as something like an app inside ur phone? Always there in the background waiting to be used?
Hi, is anyone else having the problem that ClockWorkMod 2.5.0.1 just hangs after "Backing up system..." when trying to do a Nandroid backup?
Backup worked fine with 2.0.x.x (the one that came with Unrevoked3), but now I can't seem to complete a backup. Haven't even tried restoring yet...
Trying to run a ROM backup using ROM Manager and Nandriod Backup but both go to a screen with a red triangle
Phone is rooted and running Defrost
I want to update to defrost 6.1
Any other way of backing up the ROM ?
Thanks

Boot in to recovery manually and back up or clear the download cache in rom manager and reflash clockworkmod. If it still fails try to disable signature verification in recovery (under install zip form sd)
I can't get to recovery though thats the problem.
How do you reflash clockworkmod ? Through ROM Manager ?
yes, first option when you open rom manager
Cashe cleared, then I tried to run the update ROM option selected back up and clear data etc.
Went straight to a red triangle, will now try and see about changing this clockworkmod
Thanks.
Ran the re-flash clockwork option, first one on the list, still gets the red triangle of noness.
So I am rooted and flashed Myn's RLS#4. No problems
Now I am adding a few new items but am confused with a few things.
Titanium Backup
ROM Manager
Nandroid backup
Most of what I read says to do a Nandroid backup. I know how to, but where does Titanium Backup and ROM Manager come into play. Do I need to do all?

Titanium Backup - saves your applications on SD card so that it may save and re-use on a new ROM
ROM Manager - Download new ROMs onto your sd card to flash
Nandroid backup - Only takes a backup of your whole actual phone so that you can go back and start over from the first backup in case a problem or bug or accident in the system occurs.
Only Amon_Ra's recovery makes nandroids which back up your 4G radio parameters. You might try searching, use google instead of the xda forum tools, just include"xda evo" in the search line.
Hi,
Made a complete nandroid backup, with all options selected in amon ra 2.2.1. Flashed MIUI to try it out and decided to go back to Myn's.
Upon selecting nandroid restore, I get nothing but the splashscreen and it hangs there. I left it on for over 30 mins in case it was working and I couldn't tell, but unfortunately it just hung.
I had a2sd installed, is it possible that because the ext partition was blown away that this is causing issues ???
Edit: DISREGARD ..... SOLVED ON SECOND NANDROID ATTEMPT

I had a similar problem only I made a backup on one phone, then when i got a new phone (same 0004 hardware version), I tried restoring the backup and it failed 2 or 3 times. not sure what was going on.
How long would you say it takes to restore the nandroid backup?
I understand you solved the problem, but I wanted to mention this: If you are using ROM Manager it is a good idea to make a CWM backup as well as an Amon RA nandroid. If one doesn't work, the other may! And, if you are not using ROM manager, you might want to think about it. Also, if you are not making multiple backups, you might want to think about that as well.
I know that I have seen this question asked before but I can't find the post. I broke my evo (let's call it #1) and I am trying to restore evo#1 CWM backup onto evo #2 the new phone that I just got. I have put the sdcard from evo#1 with its latest backup into evo#2 and have booted into recovery.
I remember seeing that you can't do a full restore but rather to use Advance Restore but I don't remember which components to restore and which not. I think that I restore all but WIMAX bacause WIMAX is different for each phone.
Anyone know ??

Generally, I don't believe it's recommended to restore a backup from one phone to another. However, I've seen reports that it it can be done. As you assumed, you are correct by NOT restoring the wimax. If you were to do that, it would restore the RSA keys of your old phone, overwriting your NEW RSA keys. You don't want to do that. So remove the wimax.img from your nandroid backup before you restore.
Also, I'm not positive on this, but I do believe that if your old backup was made on a certain hboot version, that you need to be on the same hboot version when restoring that backup. (lets say you when you created the backup, your hboot version was 2.10, then when you restore your backup, be sure the hboot version on the new phone is also 2.10). The reason I believe taht to be true, is because I had always had hboot .93 on my phone, and all backups I had ever made were when I was running .93 hboot. I then downgraded to the ENG .76 hboot, (to use fastboot), and I tried to restore a backup that had been created when I was on .93 hboot, and it did not go well. After the backup restored and I rebooted, it booted straight to fastboot, and that was the only place I could get. None of my old backups would restore. I then switched back to hboot .93, and my backups restore perfectly fine. So that is what led me to my conclusion. Good luck with your quest. ( i personally recommend just starting fresh, and not restoring an old backup, just to be safe)
k2buckley got you covered, but restoring a backup from an old phone to a new one WILL cause you problems, and the easiest way to avoid it is to not do it.
The best you can do is backup your apps via titanium backup and your launcher settings, transfer those folders to your new phone. When restoring the apps, do only app and data, NOT system settings.
Thank you both for the reply. Based upon your feedback I decided to do a clean install of everything.
You're welcome; just trying to make it smooth as possible.
Is there a way to restore, or at least read, the contacts data that were stored in the phone (not through google account) from a ClockworkMod nandroid?
Summary:
1. Went to update family member's phone to newest SprintLover's ROM from original stock rooted 3.29.
2. Backedup apps through titanium, flashed CWM 3.0.0.5 through ROM Manager.
3. Used ROM Manager to make a new backup of the 3.29 stock ROM.
4. PHONE COULD NOT REBOOT AFTER BACKUP! (Hung at the white HTC screen)
5. Figured, **** it, and installed the all-in-one radio/ROM PC36IMG.zip from SprintLover's ROM.
6. Update went fine, but realized some of the contacts were stored in PHONE and not google account.
7. Can't flash into the backup I made, it hangs at the white HTC screen.

Have you tried restoring the backup from within your recovery instead of using ROM Manager? Give it a try and see if it helps.

Thanks for the fast reply, but...
I forgot to mention that. I did clear data/cache after I updated to SprintLover's in recovery, and then tried to nandroid restore my stock 3.29 backup.
It still hung at the white HTC screen, no luck.
I have since restored the SprintLover backup.

Oh okay. If you want the original 3.29, you can download it from the link below.

If you don't mind a little friendly advice, I recommend that you stop using ROM Manager and flash amon RA v2.3 atop of your ClockworkMod. ROM Manager, in my opinion, has its uses, however, too many people have experience similar things as you while trying to flash roms. Anyway, take care and have a great weekend....

Thanks for the tip and link.
I use AmonRa on my phone (for at least the past 8 months), but figured I wouldn't run into trouble since Clockwork has been updated so much. However, I agree, too many issues I've had in the past and now with Clockwork.
I appreciate the original 3.29 link, but I only really need the contacts that were on my nandroid.
I guess I'll poke around and see if anything is in some sort of plain text file in the nandroid about the missing contacts. About half were in google, and half in the phone.
