A simple idea here.
Make a battery door, just like the stock one, except it would have a lip raised above the camera lens to protect it.
Anyone make anything like that?
Check the clear battery door thread, the guy that sells the clear door also sells other colors, they have the camera lip.
If you get the Seidio 3500mah battery, it comes with a replacement back that protects the cam.
*side bonus. The reason I got it is the large battery, of course.

I checked the images at their website. Doesn't look like that door would protect the camera lens. The door itself also looks very bulky.
What I had in mind was a simple, very thin door, like the stock.
You want one of these:
http://www.customevos.com/
I bought the clear one and a limited edition white one and they are excellent.
The door has 2 discrete ridges that keep the phone about 1/32 of an inch above the surface.

That is the reason that there is a metal ring around the lens. The lip that you're talking about does the same thing as the metal ring.
But to answer your question check this site out: Evo Doors
I think you'll find your answer.
#5 and #6, thanks for the effort, but none of those solutions are anything like what I'm talking about.
Customevos doors are way too bulky. And everyone and their dog knows that unprotected evo lenses get scratched very easily.

Those doors are the exact same as stock doors, minus the rails -.- And they do protect the camera.
Obviously you are looking for a solution that doesn't exist at this current point in time. You want something more thin that protects the unprotected camera..
have you thought about getting a case? picked up a clear snap on case off ebay for $5

Bulky? It's the *exact* same thing as the OEM door on your phone except it has rails and a round logo medallion that are there to protect the camera when laid down flat. How is that bulky?
and it's clear.

Money is not a problem. I have 3 different cases. The thinnest one is Casemate Barely There, it's still too bulky for my taste.
I guess I'll just end up gluing a little protective ring to the stock case.

I have four of them and with my glasses I have excellent vision. They are almost identical to the stock door except for the rails and the logo medallian. They are are certainly not "very bulky." Regardless, if you actually consider 1mm to be "very bulky" you should be prepared to never find a case you're happy with.
You just just remove your door and tape down your battery since I doubt you're going to find anything thinner.

So let me get this straight, you want a case that protects the camera lens which extends outside of the base battery cover, but you do not want it to be thicker than the base battery cover.
Um, physics is not your strong point then.
You are complaining about 1mm, if that is too much difference for you then you will not be satisfied with any case material..
Go to home depot, buy a washer and glue it on around your camera.
Problem solved.

I don't want a case, the phone seems relatively tough by design, gorilla glass and all. I'm concerned about the camera though. Anyone have any ideas for protection or whether it actually needs it?

Interesting - didnt know those sort of things existed.
Not sure what to do about mine - I'll monitor this thread with interest
It was my understanding that the lens cover is made of the same/similar glass that's used for the front of the phone.
The HTC Desire etc. had a plastic lens cover that was on the back cover rather than on the actual phone itself which is why something like that needed to exist.

So when I place it on the table the invisishield will take the weight & scratches

simply buy a cheap phone protector, cut it and put in to the lens. I do that on my hd2 for years and its great.
This sounds like a good idea. Does it affect picture quality through the invisishield though?

No I just did two really thin strips on the top and bottom of the lens so that it doesn't affect camera whatsoever. And on the bottom just above the speakers. Ill take a pic and post it when I have time. definitely working though. I'm at peace without needing a case.

Looks good. I'm sure I had some of this stuff lying around but predictably, I can't find it. Will definitely buy some!
I find it hard to believe that some case maker doesnt jump on this gap in the market and design a case with a simple sliding or magnetic cover over the lens... it seems simple, in my head!
Im going to try and make my own cover on a silicon case, just ordered some really thin magnetic strip and going to try to devise a simple material flap to cover the lens and fix with the magnet.. sue, it will prob look awful, but its a case of function over design for me!

I know there are a few (<1mm) dimensional differences between the OEM and ma bell's variant. Anyone actually try to see if it fits?
EDIT:
So, just got the case, and glad to say that it is a perfect fit, save for the top mic being slightly covered (which is fairly immaterial imo).
The fit and finish are absolutely top grade. The case does not seem to affect radio signals nor accessibility of the battery cover, headphone jack, speaker and microphone.
It's important to note that the phone with the bumper on feels nice and secure in my hands. I have 'standard-sized' hands, and found the phone alone slippery, as if it were about to jump out of my hands at any point. After adding the bumper, grasping the side of the phone makes it feel much more secure and actually easier to use. Much less awkward.
On with the pictures.

Really big box for a small package inside.
Shows where to install foam tape.
Very nice and snug fit, with zero play- before adding foam tape.
Foam tape in place now that I know the phone fits well.
Perhaps they left this bare for a wrist strap? Though, I didn't notice a slot for one on the international version. In any case (pun?), the bumper case seems to extrude far beyond the exposed part.
Not the best angle, but the loudspeaker is perfectly centered, and fully exposed.
Note the mic port (bottom of phone). Fully exposed, near-perfect alignment.
The volume and power buttons are still easily triggered, although they seem recessed within the bumper. You have to use the cushioning of the finger, as opposed to the tip however.
Standard headphone jack fits snugly, without contacting the bumper.
The tiny bump on the back of the case, part of the headphone jack surround, provides a 1mm clearance. Since the camera module slightly protrudes, the actual camera clearance, at it's lowest point, is about a 0.5mm. While this is far from sufficient on a rough surface, it is good to know that sliding it across a flat surface such as a table or desktop will not damage the camera.
A good 1mm+ of clearance on the front side.
will be good.
u can order
thanks. hope i'm not a guinea pig here

Word of warning - I bought the case mate case with the metal back (http://www.case-mate.com/Samsung-Ga...-S-II-Barely-There-Brushed-Aluminum-Cases.asp).
Very nice case but killed GPS.
Without the case immediate fix.. with the case no fix at all. Had to get rid of.
I have a feeling all metal cases will have the same issue.
I wonder if that was just because of the metal back, or just metal in general. I hadn't read anything negative about the Taurus bumpers, in regards to GPS signal.
Worth testing though, having just come from a Captivate I'm a little sensitive about my phones GPS capabilities

With the european version and the Taurus GPS works perfect! Really a great bumper, I hope it fits for you guys!
We're talking about a .7mm difference in height as the biggest difference in size between the two devices. I know it's aluminum, but it's SO close... unless it's landing-on-the-moon precise, I feel like it's got to fit!
I hope so anyway, every other case I've seen is gigantic and really defeats the purpose of having such a slim phone.
No GPS Issues (still works indoors)
Gives a great sturdy feeling.
DOES NOT provide any clearance to the rear camera lens (stock battery).
Very very close to the same offset on the backside.
Gave me my missing Lanyard attachment point via a loop through the speaker hole.
I'm loving it in Gunmetal

Ugh it provides no protection to the camera like the CaseMate one does. The case mate cover at least lifts the rest of the phone high enough so that the camera bit is not extending out beyond the backside and thus you avoid scratches to the lens etc.

I mean, I wouldn't mind a full metal one. IF it actually covered the back as well and lifted the general phone off the deck enough for the camera "housing" to not scratch against the table etc.

Agreed. What makes me even more optimistic is the fact that if you check out some installation videos on Youtube, when applying the case, you place a rubberized seal between the bumper and the phone itself. This protects the phone from the bumper itself, and also provides a more snug fit, as opposed to a hard-on-hard surface.
I expect the case later today (10/14/11). Promise to report how it goes as soon as I get my hands on it, and will include UHQ photos of the install.
Perhaps this thread should be moved to 'AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Accessories'?

Here is the New version meant for LTE with extended battery+battery door ON
The GSM version on my LTE phone was really nice... although it did just start developing cracks(known issue) because of the stress from the impropper fit
This new version fits perfect. It adds a hair of thickness since the hump that contours to the stock battery door hump is now filled in.
It can be seen here
Hope this helps some of you out
Is there a reason you're not using the battery door in the new case?

Recieved mine today to, fits so nice. 1st case that is going to make me ditch my Diztronic 3rd gen for.
Got mine today, LOVE it.
The new case will protect the front. The top and bottom portions of the case create a small lip so while face down, everything would be resting on those lips and the phone would be protected. Just the sides are open.
Perfect fit. My new case. The trusty diztronic v3 is now officially off duty.
The only downside is my pogo pings are halfway covered. I'm fine with them covered but they shoulda either left them exposed or fully concealed. The case literally covers half of each pin.

This bothers me too. My concern is when (if ) we ever get a legit car dock, how that'll effect the connection. If there's an issue I won't let it be a deal breaker. I'll hit it with a dremel to make it work

Any chance of some pictures of the case as it fits in the holster?
When you say "pretty good" -- is it wobbly, snug, other?
Also: how does the Ringke case do with the Seidio clip at the top of the holster? Can you pop the phone in/out of the holster with one hand, without the clip damaging the Ringke case? Also wondering if the clip will wind up scratching the case... any thoughts?
Jon
I got the metallic one as people said it most closely matched the actual phone. It's pretty close. Just a little bit darker. I wish it wasn't so glossy though - seems like it will scratch up. I might have to go with the matte black instead. Still looks pretty good I think.
Sorry for the quality of the shots, I'm no photographer.
UPDATE: PICTURE ADDED!
There are a total of 6 magnets on the case (as you can see in pic 1 and 2). most of you might have concerns of how the magnet will affect the tablet. i can tell you from my experience that IT DOES NOT AFFECT MY S PEN capabilities. They use the 6 magnets so that when folding the cover, it will stay together. And because of the magnet when its folded its VERY strong, not flimsy.
S Pen is also accessible shown in pic 7
Charger is accessible shown in pic 8.
Top isnt cover well, the volume and power button visible as you can see in pic 9
Overall the case is very thin, about 1.3 cm?? But it does feel like it added some weight onto the tablet.
ALSO: this case comes with a screen protector (the one that i have on, i did screw up a few times)
Lemme know if you have any questions

But having any magnets next to an electronic device spells disaster.

Well they can't hurt the memory unlike if you have a hard drive in there, but my concern is that I bought a poetic case which has two magnets on each corner of the case near the speakers. At least they aren't anywhere close to the pen.
yea thats what i was somewhat worry about. there are a total of 4 magnets (as seen from vid) and when closed all 4 are pretty much around the camera area, which is also where the mobo is located as well i think...
review?
Has anyone purchased this case who can share their experience?

I sent a question to the seller to see what they had to say
I'll be all over this after a review. Looks like the magnet may be in a bad spot when standing up in landscape mode...

The company said this about the magnets
dont worry, we have tried it , no interference with the magnets
I have one. I think it's great, especially at that price. There's a little give in it when typing with it propped up in landscape (at a small angle, with the tablet "upside down") but it's very stable otherwise. Only other problem is that it doesn't close if anything's plugged in to the headphone jack.
My first thought was why did they not cover fully the back of the note, it looks like they have little wings sticking out the back on the sides. If they made a cover with the back completely covered with the same material I would definitely buy one.

Yeah it looks like they didnt cover the part that secured the tablet in place.
This is the case I have:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0088I9AX4/ref=oh_details_o03_s01_i00
and I enjoy it. It covers the tablet nicely, easy access to the pen, in landscape on a table, the top is elevated about half and inch or so to give a nice little angle on the device. Also it can easily be set to sit up with 3 different angles in the landscape mode. Slim and sturdy construction as well with decent padding.

The wing is there because there are TWO different layers within the case. I can assure u its fully cover the back of the tablet.
More pics will be posted tmr. Sorry been busy lately

How do you feel about the case after having it for a few days? And how is the fit? Does the Note snap in tightly? I have a $7 poetic trifold, but don't like that the bezel is covered. I really like the looks of this case, but would like to hear a bit more about it.

I actually like it ALOT. when its in trifold mode, especially laying down for typing its very sturdy, it DOESNT wiggle or move at all.
and YES its a good fit for the tablet, as long as you dun hold it by the cover and wiggle it vigorously. As you know there are only 3 corners supporting the tablet, since we need the opening for s pen, but from my experience if you simply push the s pen corner (the corner that isnt cover) it can easily pop up.
lemme know if you have any other questions.
ALSO the magnets DOES NOT affect the screen for me.

Looks interesting.. I think my choice is down to this case or this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Ultra-S...es_Covers_Keyboard_Folios&hash=item3ccaa0c25f
Hey guys, decided the Moto X is indeed the phone for me...so I ordered a case. I've been using a Diztronic case for a few years now on various phones and always liked them. They're sleak and they provide just a little extra lift to keep the screen off the pavement if you drop it face down. Pretty much all I could ask for.
Anyway, the Moto X Diztronic case is stellar. Here's a few pics:

...now I just need to wait for the Cardninja I ordered and I'll be set. It's funny, a few years ago, it was 'never leave the house without phone, ipod, wallet, keys'. I dropped the iPod a few years back, and think I'm finally dropping the wallet. Now, I just need NFC to start my car and I'm set.
Agreed. Picked up the clear case and love it!

Got the matte black, it's perfect for me. I had the GNEX version for the last 18 mos and liked it.
Does this have the dimple in the case?

how hard is it to look at the photos posted above?
I got the matte black, and this case is awesome: fits perfectly, adds very little bulk, feels great, and it's cheap! Only downsides are it covers the back of the device and the buttons, which actually doesn't bother me because I just have the plain black verizon model. It also covers the dimple which I know bothers some people. Lastly the lips around the screen make it a little difficult to get your thumbs to the edge of the screen, which makes it a little difficult to drag app icons to a different home screen. No big deal though.
Too bad it doesn't have an indent for the dimple or at least a cutout for it
the hyperion is 99% the same, but has the dimple.
http://www.amazon.com/Hyperion-Moto...-Packaging/dp/B00CXLY9KG/ref=pd_sim_sbs_cps_5
I bought both the Hyperion and the ditztronic. The ditzrtonic seems slightly slimmer and has much better buttons than the hyperion. I like it better overall besides not having the dimple...So what i did was i took a hallow hole punch and made a dimple hole in the ditztronic.
I used something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000I1IWVA/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And this is the result:
I made it a little bigger than it should be because i was afraid if i didn't center it perfectly it would be off the dimple.

how does TPU react when being drilled? Did it wiggle about or just cuts through like paper? Really curious how TPU reacts to violent force.

I used a hallow hole punch. You don't drill with a hallow hole punch, you hit it with a happer. It took a lot of hard banging but it cut it pretty cleanly. You also have to hold the punch down pretty well so it doesn't move/bounce around. I practiced on the hyperian case becuase i didn't plan on using that case. For some reason the hyperian case was a lot easier to put a hole in.

How hard is it to tell if there is an indent in the back of the case when the picture is taken straight on?
While the punch is a cool idea, I would be interested in finding a case that actually has an indent for your finger AND protects the back of the phone.

Sorry, I guess I'm still not making my wishes clear
A case that does not have a physical cutout for the dimple, but a case that is dimpled itself that is contoured into the dimple on the X. Does this make a little more sense?
Can those with the clear case confirm if it gets dirty, especially along the corners? My wife as the griffin white reveal and the corners look terrible.

I have a clear one (it's frosted on the inside, so not _completely_ clear). Had it since October when I got the phone. With my white phone in the case, it looks pretty grey now, especially on the corners and edges. I don't really mind, since it keeps the phone white!

The SUPCASE is like that.. has a dimple on the case itself.

The buttons on the SUPCASE are pretty bad, unfortunately. I have one and love it otherwise but never use it because of that reason - mostly use my bumper case that has great button feedback.
Diztronic are then only cases I will buy. Love it on my Moto X.

Just moved from a Hyperion to a Diztronic because the headphone port on the Hyperion was too small. Both are good cases, but man the Diztronic seems slippery to me compared to the Hyperion - it's almost flown out of my hand a couple times over the past few days. Really nice case though.
