How do you handle your music? I've got a pretty big collection and I use google music most of the time, but some of my flac files have trouble loading on 3g. So i started putting most of my music on my phone, however, I do have some albums that have individual jpg files for album art and are showing up in my gallery. I read that theres a way to actually embed the art into the file itself to prevent it from showing in the gallery? Do any of you use Media Monkey to handle and sort your music?
I use a program called Mp3Tag. It works well.
Here's the link: http://www.mp3tag.de/en/
+1 for mp3tag. It's awesome. Fixed my entire mp3 collection with it and Monkey before uploading to Google Music.

Hmm, I deleted all my jpg files that I had, did you fix each album separately or did u just do them all at once? Is it worth making playlists too?
That looks like a great program!
Anyone on OS X know of an equivalent?
I use media monkey and mp3gain before I put them on my phone. They work fine in poweramp, no problem with album art.

No there us no Mac version of it. I'm forced to tag my music in Windows then transfer them over to my laptop I use for DJing.

Bummer
I saw there was no Mac version of the specific program, I was just interested in a utility that would do the same on Mac.
Years ago I used one but I cannot remember the name. This isn't the one I used but I might give it a go tonight.

I use Media Monkey. Best app in existence.
I have about 19000 tracks on a synology ds211+ running twonky server and use media monkey over smb shares to manage it all. I have one share I dump all my purchased mp3 in. Have media monkey scan that share when I start it up. After I make sure it's all tagged properly I auto-organize (move) them to the share that Twonky sees for music. Keeps Media Monkey from having to rescan the main library since it's kind of large.
Works for me.
Edit: yes, I ask media monkey to store all art in the tags. And I delete the image files afterward. Amazon mp3 has their stuff tagged so well I never have to do anything more than auto-organize it.

wait, does media monkey auto tag? I just spent hours manually tagging each album (120+) with mp3tag
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Monkey will use parts of the existing tag and search for the rest (including covers). It's not pure auto tagging but it's better than manually doing it.
It's great for finding covers. I use Mp3tag when I want to manually embed a better quality cover than what monkey finds. ...or for tag cleaning.
But for mass album tagging, I use monkey.

I remember that being a massive battery eater. Otherwise totally agree.
Never had it drain my battery any more than any application that streams data while in use. It does use more power than keeping songs on your phone but never was a battery drain on any of my devices. The new software definitely is smoother though.

I had it install apps on my homescreen. What a pain in the ass. Took me a couple of days to find out what the hell was installing apps, they would just appear out of no where. I was also getting ads in the notification bar. This was on my SG2 so maybe something is different with SG3.
haven't seen anyone mention this one yet but I use TinyShark Downloader... it downloads songs in mp3 format from groove shark and works really well. I don't think there are any ads but I use ad free so it might but I don't see them.there's also a version to stream instead of download. the download version is not on the market anymore (due to copyright issues maybe?)
exigo.x10.mx/ the green shark icon is the downloader and blue is the streaming version

I really like the default samsung player. Its got the flawless notification/lockscreen integration and it recognizes all my music correctly. There's maybe two or three features that I look for in a player that this one has all I need. My only problem is that it chugs when I scroll through my music quickly (25gb of songs on a class 4 card will do that though, sadly). I've tried a whole bunch with fancy interfaces, but they always give me a reason to go back. For example, I tried xenoamp after the reccomendation above and I was really excited for it, seemed like it had a cool interface. But no shuffle all? And after I got past that, the rest of it felt like an alpha with a lot of features (like editting tags so I could fix all of the songs that it randomly didn't recognize) simply not working.

I really like the stock music player, but it's constantly losing my position in tracks when I pause... I listen to a lot of audiobooks, and if I pause mid-track, if I come back an hour or two later it's lost the position, starting the track over. If I wait more than an hour or two, it often forgets what book I'm even on, and will just show my library.
This is with absolute minimal use between, checking gmail once or twice and a text or two.
I use either Cloudskipper or Doubletwist, take your pick
I have used Mixzing for the past two years.
Just a quick question that I havent come across in the forums. Im an organization freak and I just wanted to know how I can edit the titles of my songs to change them if they arent properly titled. I tried through a file explorer and even better, through root explorer but it hasnt worked. If someone can help it would be appreciated.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
I share the same freakish obsession. My library has over 10,000 titles and all of them are perfectly organized and file named.
The answer is not Android. It is a PC application called MediaMonkey. It will auto-organize all of your music, tag it, rename files and convert them on the fly as it syncs with your mobile devices. There is no better solution at any price, and it is free. Even iTunes users switch after trying it, and they are usually too stubborn to admit that iAnything is not the best.

Haha, yes I can only agree. But thanks this has been something that has been bothering me everytime I open up my music application. Its greatly appreciated. Ill be sure to check it out and report back

I, too, use media monkey. Rather than fixing each song manually, I auto tag from the web, to ensure I get cover art as well. Just stinks to get started, but now I ensure everything is in order as I ingest the songs into my library.
Yeah, I tried tune up but media monkey is free so I cant argue with that. Im getting used to it as we speak.

For this phase of getting your files in order, look in the directory view and find a folder called Files To Edit (or something like that). It shows various folders of files that are missing important information.

Okay, works great thanks for the help.
Btw, while we're on the topic is there any mp3 downloaders any of you would recommend? I use an app that doesnt really have many of the songs I look for.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Sorry, I'm no help with that. I always buy full CD's and rip them to FLAC. It may be old school, but I have never found an mp3 source that was anything but unsatisfactory. I do convert to mp3, but I use VBR and a high bitrate.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Ahhh, I understand. Well to be honest, l am about to do the same. Itll be much more convienent in many ways.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Depends on the quality you want and how much of an audiophile you are. You could use tubemate to simply convert any video on youtube to a mp3. I have done that with some songs I just can't find elsewhere.
What kind of music are you looking for?
Well I used to do the same with youtube except taking every single song individually grew to be a pain. Im just looking for anything that I feel like listening to at the moment. Im currentley in the process of downloading some of System of a Down's albums. Its usually whatever im in the mood for. But sometimes I use an app on the market and it downloads the song yet the artist and the album are incorrect.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Ah, gotcha, yep, that's the price you have to pay. I tend to make channels in Last.fm, and let it play music similar to bands I like. Found countless new (to me) bands that way.

There's an Android app called MyTunes Lite that lets you edit ID tags on the phone.
Just curious. I see very few reasons to use this feature. I just hold home for to seconds and hop back and forth. Or copy and paste. What do you guys love it for?
Sent from GN2 using XDA app
Is it too late to modify the topic before it's flooded with tons of useless pics showing 2 apps running? No offense, but it's an idea as pointless as posting home screens or telling which color phone you bought.
Perhaps we would all be helped by elaborating on, "how have you gotten the most use or productivity using mw"

When I'm editing files on my phone per instructions of a developer, it is nice to have both root explorer open as well as a screen shot from gallery illustrating what needs to be done so I don't have to keep closing and opening the file editing app.

I find it makes it easier to copy text from an app (like browser) into an SMS/email etc without switching back and forth. Don't use it a lot but when i do use it, it's very useful and works very well.
For me it solves the problem of YouTube shutting down whenever the app is not in use. I listen to a lot of music there and many videos aren't even videos but just images with the audio playing. Now I fire up youtube in 1 section and open the browser or whatever else in the other and maiximize its size.
I use it while doing Google chat with people while also Web browsing.
