How would it be able to do this? I've seen terminal codes floating around, but none of them look like they'd be replacing the proper files for a cupcake build (old RC33 builds I believe, long lost now!)
I'm running TheDude's 1.3 RC2. I've seen plenty of ADB commands, however I've never been able to get ADB to work on my computer, and I don't feel like putting more pointless hours into it
So how would the terminal commands work, and what would the pre-requisites for the files have to be? Thanks!

Step number two of those directions: "2. Get ADB setup and working. Read here. "
Let's clarify. I cannot get ADB to work, at all, on my computer. Fastboot doesn't work because I can't get ADB to work. Moreso, I just realized that I can't even find my data cord.
Either way, the point of my post is to find a way to change the boot animation at start up, without having to use anything but the phone and maybe some photo editing software.
So how can we do this?
You do not have to have the whole sdk(adb etc..) for fastboot to work you do have to have a driver running for android found in the sdk or here http://dl.google.com/android/android_usb_windows.zip .
The boot animation is found in /system/framework/framework-res.apk/assets/images,android-logo-mask.png and android-logo-shine.png are the images you wanna edit.Dont believe you can get it back on your phone without the sdk set up with adb working though as you will either have to resign an update or push the edited files back somehow.
Edit:without a data cord I think this is an impossibility I dont think you can go through the process needed on your phone, dont hold me to that though good luck man.

Alright, I just confirmed the location on the phone. So if I upload a file onto my SD card, and overwrite it through Terminal, what do you think that'll do? I'm not big into the Themes section, I'm into the Development section, so I'm not sure what overwriting will do to my phone.
Actually you might be able to get away with that.Try backing up framework res in terminal type:
$su
#mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
#cp -r /system/framework/framework-res.apk /sdcard
Now the .apk you want is on your sdcard root pull that onto a computer unzip it with 7zip.In the framework-res folder there are some more folders go to assets then images edit those two images to your liking. Then go back to your framework-res.apk that you backed up add .zip to the end, right click it and choose open or explore navigate back to the images folder and paste your edited boot images in there. Now remove .zip so it is framework-res.apk again put that back on your sd cards root.Go to terminal and type
$su
#mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
#cp -f /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework
#reboot
If all goes well that should work.

Lost you at naming it as a .zip. I can't explore or open the file, as Windows Vista doesn't know how to handle it. Any ideas?

right click-> open with -> WinRAR
Or go to Folder Options and uncheck "Hide extensions for known filetypes" (you should do that for all folders.... its a bad idea not to because a virus may look like *.doc instead of *.doc.exe anyways its also more convenient)

I need help on whether or not I am screwed or If I can connect my phone to my computer someway and use clockwork and maybe do something that way. I am able to get to clockwork rec and I believe that my files have been erased some how some way and cant connect to my computer to just start over unless one of you guys can really help me out. If I can get step by step help I will def buy someone a beer or two or three. Thanks
If you have a rom zip on your sdcard just boot into recovery, wipe and flash a new rom. If you don't then go into recovery, mount sdcard to your computer and move a zip onto your sd and then flash.

Connect your phone to your computer, boot into CWM recovery, and use ADB to push a ROM.zip, GAPPS, and whatever else you need to flash to your phone. You can then do a data wipe in CWM and flash the ROM.
If you don't know how to use ADB, download the package I've attached to this post. Unzip it to your home directory and drop any files you need to push into that file as well. Open up Terminal, type "cd" (no quotes) and drag that unzipped Mac_ADB_Fastboot folder into the terminal and hit return. It'll take you to that directory.
First, make sure the computer recognized the device by typing:
Code:
./adb devices
and hitting return.
If it detects, then type this into the Terminal, of course substituting any file you need (GAPPS, etc.) where "ROM.zip" is:
Code:
./adb push ROM.zip /sdcard/

adb is a platform tool in android sdk, and can use on mac surely.
you can get one sent by martonikaj.
firstly you have to try to mount your sdcard in the cwm recovery. if it done, you can use adb push send file to sdcard.

You could always just find someone with a PC that will let you use it for 15 minutes, download the rom, move to your phone, boot into recovery, flash and enjoy. I always have 2 or 3 rom zips on my phone just for that reason.

So I think I am SOL, but I wanted to ask you guys first.
My Nexus wont boot past the Google screen all of a sudden today. So I am going to attempt the toolkit version of returning to stock later. But before I do that, I want to try and salvage my pictures from the internal memory.
Is there a way to mount the internal storage to my PC so I can pull the files off?
I thought not having an SD card was no big deal, til now when im about to lose 500+ pictures.
Am I screwed?
Thanks

You can adb pull the dcim folder to your PC.
Edit: You would also be better served in the long run learning to return to stock yourself instead of using a toolkit.

It's not too complicated. It is a lot of steps but a developer novice can follow the instructions to install and use adb just to pull a few files. Also that's one reason why I let dropbox sync my photos as I take them, so if something happens I have an auto cloud backup.

If you have a custom recovery you should be able to get adb access. You just need to set up the drivers
I believe the previous link I gave even has a small platform-tools download so you wouldn't have to set up the sdk.

thanx man the last command worked and it did pull some files but they are not backup files. some files in KBs and one folder named downloads.
If the second command seems to be working then you can use below commands to check what's in the directory:
adb ls /sdcard/0/clockworkmod/
Normally you should have two folders 'backup' & 'blobs'. You can further check what's inside these folders by typing:
adb ls /sdcard/0/clockworkmod/backup/

Sorry, I looked at what forum this was in and got a little confused...silly me :silly:
Anyway, back on track...
You should not be receiving that error in TWRP. If you are, then something is seriously wrong with it and probably needs to be reinstalled. Other than that, I'm having trouble seeing where the problem is. (the pic shows that you're not in recovery, btw)
You clearly have access to adb, so...why aren't you using 'adb push' to transfer a new ROM to your sdcard to flash in recovery?

I am attempting to understand what u are saying But I'm thinking ur not giving full step after step instructions OR this Version I have (v2.6.0.0) differs from Yours, Because there is No such OPTION as ADB PUSH..... I have ADB sideload (under Advanced Tab) which only wipes Cashe.. I've looked in every single area in TWRP and see nothing of anything You are talking about, other than "MOUNT" obviously.

Try to understand what you're being told. I'm not saying anything about mounting your sdcard to transfer files to it so get that idea out of your head for a moment.
You need to boot into recovery and use the command 'adb push' to transfer a ROM to your sdcard, then flash it in recovery.
Now, does that make more sense?

While Searching Google for Help I seen this..> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2361144
I'm bout to install a Pc with Linux and try pushing it that way.. Have not tried that.
You don't need Linux to run adb commands *face palm* While I am a linux enthusiast, all he's trying to say is boot into twrp, plug kindle into your PC, and open a command prompt, CD into the directory of adb and run "adb push pathtofile /sdcard/filename" this should push it to the kindle, though their might be something else u need for in prior to this I'm not sure, soupemagnet will probably post back if there is. BTW I don't know if u actually meant u were going to install Linux, but if you don't plan on using it after this or anything in the case u do decide to still use it for this, u don't need to install it, distros like Ubuntu let you boot into a full os from the CD so u don't need to install it.
