Forgive my ignorance:
I just got my wife the epic and the pre loaded version of swype on her phone is slightly newer (1.61.37.8224) and had a mic. Would I be able to extract the apk off her phone and put it on my evo? If so, how would I do it?
Thanks in advance

I don't think the one for the Epic would work with the Evo (the microphone part, at least). There was one that was version 1.56.* that had the mic and worked for the Evo, though. But, the official beta is around version 2.something now.
I tried this with a demo Epic unit I had and it's a no-go. When you rip the apk from the Epic and install it onto the EVO it'll work only in limited mode (no swyping but tap-typing works). Hell, the first time you bring the keyboard up it even goes as far as to say that the version of Swype was designed for a different phone.
sucks. oh well.
thanks for the info, just tryin to get a better swype for us EVO users.
close thread please

Trying to get the HTC keyboard for my phone cuz let's face it, the android keyboard sucks. I've been following this thread over on the XDA Nexus One thread and have followed it exactly installing both APK's. Each time when i long click and select Touch Input, no keyboard shows up on the screen.
I'm not exactly sure why it won't work since i have installed several other keyboards over the past.
If anyone knows how to get this working, or is experiencing a similar issue please let me know.
Bump
Seriously? Nobody. The android keyboard sucks haha and my swype expired.
lol dude, not clue why it doesnt work, i tried downloading the v20 apk from the N1 forums, it installs but when you switch input methods it doesnt show up so stuck in same boat

Hello,
There is another post with a updated Swype APK that purports to have the Mic added, but all the links that point to the mic version are broken. Does anyone have the APK or a link to it of the latest swype with Mic version? The only one I could find searching is a horribly ugly one with blue and red keys...
Thank you in advance!
BUMP!
How is EVERYONE not interested in this?!
Search......Swype no longer available its now warez....
The Swype developers were being douches. They were pissed about us posting links for free downloads of free software.
There are several other forums that have those links. I won't say who, but google will get you there. Google the latest version number of swype: 2.4.44.10912
I thought Swype had hit all of the Android forums and made them take it down......I'll just have to take my theme work over there
I have the latest version and there is no mic, unfortunately.
I have swype 2.4.44.10912 on my Evo and can confirm there is no mic feature. And since there doesn't seem to be any *quick* way to switch back and forth between Swype and Touch keyboard (like you can on the Epic), I am almost thinking about turning Swype off.
Anyone know of any easy way to switch back and forth without going into the settings?

There is an app that changes keyboards when in different orientations......I don't know if that helps. Forgot the name of it, but it is on xda.

To answer my own question, if you do a long-press in the text box where you want to type, it will give you pop up asking you to select Swype or Touch Input. Works great.
Where the hell is the one with the mic?

Keyboard manager does exactly what you're asking for
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G
No problem downloading/running v 2.4.44.10912 on HTC EVO, Froyo 2.2.
As mentioned, no Mic.
Is there a version w/ Mic for EVO?
I found SlideIT to be ok and it has a mic predictability is between good and great.
Latest Swype Beta update has the Mic built in at last.
Hello I am a rooted evo user running CM7 RC1. I was wandering if it were possible to get the stock HTC keyboard and the Swype keyboard from 3.70 and if so how? Thanks
First of all plz post questions in q&a. Peeps around here like the forums to be in order as they should be, these are our forums so lets keep them str8.
And answer to your question is yes. Try swype website and dload the beta installer. Works fine for me. Also you'll find many HTC keyboards. Evan themed ones if u simply search

Which version is that?
The only Gingerbread friendly swipe version is the one that is in the Double shot port, but it runs SLOW SLOW SLOW.
Anyone have any ideas as how to fix that?
I can attach the APK and Lib File here is someone wants to check it out.

Dude, You didnt have to take it down, im sure people will still use it.
the problem with the non GB friendly version is you still get the pop up box, which then is blocked by the GB little word grabber things.
For the most part, it is usable, but the correction box is extremely limited in use.

I have like 5 different keyboards on my phone... and i can barely use any of them. I wish i could get the GB swype working better, but right now it is SOOO slow to just come up that it pisses me off.
Might want to invest in a tracext9 or somethign like that. Its in the market. Supposedly better than swype and has a ton of features. I have the earliest version and since it doesnt have an editable dictionary, i cant stand using it.

Yeah there is so much bs surrounding swype...I think I will check out tracext9.
OP,
There are two files you need to just yank out of the original ROM:
1. Swype.apk
2. libSwypeCore.so
Mount /system/lib as r/w, put libSwypeCore.so in it, then change perms back to r/o
Mount /system/app as r/w, put the Swype.apk in there, install it, then change perms back.
OR, you can just signup at http://beta.swype.com/ then download and install their "Installer" and install Swype from it.
EDIT: Honestly, though, I think this one is better: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nuance.flext9.input
EDIT2: I don't know why others are having problems. I've used Swype on GB (CM7) without any issues at all

The newest beta has disabled that popup annoyance. Just sign up for the beta and be always in on the most current swype.

What do you mean when you say it isn't working? Does swype FC? Does it not open? Can you type single characters & but not swype a word?
If you can you type single characters & but not swype a word, change your input method to another keyboard and then back to swype. It should work until you reboot.

I'm a big Swype fan and have always used it on my EVO but I got tired of trying to get it to work on my Nook Color and Xoom.
Even though I resisted all of the suggestions to do so, I finally bit the bullet and bought SlideIt keyboard from the market. It's about as good as Swype and it works on everything I've installed it on.

the only place i know where to get swype is from 4shared.apk,im running cm7 on evo,and installed it from there and it works grreat.only thing is,#1-have a file manager.#2-go to settings>applications>check unknown sources>and then>4shared.apk,another thing, you have to sift thru alot of them to find which apk will work.good luck
sorry,i didnt mention this before, but 4shared.apk is a website that you can search and download apps straight to your phone.been there many times and have alot of useful apps there for free, and they are all FULL versions, have fun once youre there, they have about 60,000 free full apps by now im sure
Does anyone know where I could currently download an older Evo 4G Rom, called
"Evolved Rom Shifted RC One"? Loved this original Rom, and dumped all my EVO files, after I upgraded to my new Cell signal dropping SGSIII phone. I recently went back to a new original Evo 4g from Amazon.
Appreciate any help!

Thank you for your suggestion, I tried your Rom recently, however I experienced difficulty with extreme lag. I appreciate your taking time to assist me with an alternative Rom!!
Take care,
Download seeder (the app) and see if it helps any with the lag issues
If you dont know what I'm talking about, look up "seeder entropy generator to produce significant lag reduction" and go to the XDA thread hit
Then just download the latest apk (its attached to the original post)
Now install and open it, make sure "suspend rng service" is checked and tap the "enable" button in the top left and you should be good, if its working the bar at the bottom will shoot up and either be completely green or almost completely green/filled
