"Reboot Option in Power Menu 3-in-1"
i saw this on the home page and was wondering if this option could work for our htc devices running android, like incubus's builds?

hi
dont know if this is known or not but i saw it for the first time so i am reporting it here
i am currently using wm6 rom
when you bootup your device after a soft reset at that time keeping the backlight button pressed brings up a menu
"enable KITL"
"clear registery hive"
clear storage"
with the option of no/yes in front of them
yes, this is supposed to be there. the top one is a debugging mode and the bottom are self-explaining: the two together do a hard reset.
I am trying to install a custom ROM (CyanogenMod) on my Desire, but I can't seem to complete the process because the optical trackball doesn't work any more. It stopped working a couple of weeks ago for no apparent reason - can't move a cursor when typing, can't take photos, can't scroll or transition between home screens, etc. I didn't really mind that much because I rarely used the trackball anyway, but now I really need it.
I have successfully rooted the phone, installed ROM Manager and flashed ClockworkMod Recovery. In ROM Manager I selected Download ROM (and downloaded the latest stable CyanogenMod); then I selected Install ROM from SD Card, and it said it needs to reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery to continue the installation, so it reboots into ClockworkMod Recovery, and that is where it all stops. I can move up and down through the options with the volume keys, but without a functioning trackball, there doesn't seem to be any way of selecting any of the options. The power button, home button, and menu button all do the same thing - switch the screen on and off. The back and search buttons do nothing.
Is there any way to select an option without the optical trackball? Alternatively, is there a different way of installing a custom ROM which doesn't require ClockworkMod Recovery?
I should mention, the instructions I followed are here.
And the only thread I could find with a similar problem was here. Alas, there was no solution.
Ok, there are several possibilities, but I think the easiest way is to operate CWM by using the volume control buttons (up and down) and the power button to select (As in HBOOT mode)
Another possibilty is to switch to a touch recovery.
Unfortunately the power button doesn't do anything except toggle the screen on and off. I can move up and down through the options with the volume rocker, but can't select anything.
Can you suggest a touch recovery?
There's only one Touch based recovery.
Swyped on my Htc Desire running on Supernova Extreme - Gingerbread goodness with 2 GB of Internal memory
Install 4EXT Touch version from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408936 (actually, you have to download 4EXT Recovery Updater from the Market) Anyway, follow the steps from the thread and it'll be fine...
Took a while, but I got there in the end.
All done - many thanks.
running CM 10.1.3
Clockworkmod installed.
My Vol. Down is broken, so I cant boot into recovery the normal way.
Any ideas? I need to hard reset asap.
CM has "advanced reboot" built in, enable this feature in Developer Options, hold POWER key, choose Reboot and you'll see the option to reboot into recovery.
If you're not using a touch recovery, you might still have to flash one, in case some actions require both volume keys.

You may have to enable the advanced reboot menu by doing this:
1enable developer options. These used to be in the normal settings screen for the phone but they are hidden now.
1go to about phone
2scroll to the bottom
3find the “build number” field
4click on it seven times and it will turn on developer options.
2go back one level to the main settings screen and you’ll see developer options now. Open that
3Enable advanced reboot options by clicking on the relevant checkbox
4go back to the main settings menu again and then click on “System” under the interface section
5Inside the system menu click on “Power Menu”
6Make sure “reboot menu” is checked.

Issues after update.
When having any issue after an update.
Anything from battery drain to the pin lock numbers showing up as white squares has been known to be fixed by this.
First:
Boot the device into the android system recovery menu
Press and Hold the volume up key, the Home key and the Power key. When you see "Recovery Booting" in very small blue text at the top of the screen you may release those keys
The Android robot will appear
A dos-looking menu will appear (note that your touch screen is disabled in this menu)
Using your volume keys as directional keys and your power key to select the desired option.
Highlight the option that states "wipe cache partition"
Press power key to select
the option "reboot system now" should then be highlighted; select that option using the power key
i done it but still have the same problem !

I did this steps and still have the same problem
Are you using a replacement battery? Not all are nfc capable. Also a case could block the signal, but you should still see the options.
Hey Everybody
Currently running the newest version of PixelRom on Android 8.0.0 and was wondering if there were any flashable zips to add a few feature I'm really missing:
Advanced Power Menu Mod (That lets you reboot into recovery)
Using the volume buttons to change songs while the screen is off
Toggling Torch/Flashlight by holding the power button while the screen is off
If there is absolutely any way for me to add these to this rom I'll be ecstatic
Thanks in advance, love ya XDA
@jimbub: these features will come, so be patient...
For booting into recovery: look in devel.options, if you can enable terminal, or install a 3rd party terminal.
