I totally feel like 'that guy' now. I waited all this time to try and root my phone(EVO), and did, thanks to the unrevoked3.
I wanted to install/flash the cyanogenmod 6 'mod', and got the sd-ext error a few times. I troubleshooted for that and partitioned my sd-card;That error went away, and then I got the (Status7) error. I tried my best to search, search and search to try and find a way to remedy this, so I wouldn't have to jump on here and get flamed.....
I saw that if I downgraded my hboot from .93 to .76, it would work...
NO, My phone will not boot. When I power it on, it goes straight to the boot screen, The only other place I can get is the clockworkmod recovery screen. I tried to restore a backup, apparently that wont work. I factory reseted/wiped data, and of course that didnt help either. So now all I have are just the two boot screens, nothing else.
I am close to tears. My eyes just about watered an hour ago....
Yes, regretfully Im a noob.
Is there ANY remedy to this?
Or do I just tell Sprint my phone is stolen?
I sincerely appreciate all you guys' help in advance....
Thanks
if you have recovery and hboot access you arent bricked. worst case scenario you will need to load the stock rom from your hboot and start over. its pretty tricky to actually hard brick your phone

Ok, first. Wrong section to post this kind of thread.
/phew Now, that the compulsive nagger in me is satisfied, let's see if we can get that phone back in working order
So, when u say restoring your backup in clockword didn't work, what do you mean. Specifically, what steps did u take to restore and what, if any, error messages did you get?
EDIT: Ditto on what haxt said. Have u tried loading another rom(fresh, stock, backedsnack, etc) using the usb mode in clockwork and going from there?
yeah, I read that its difficult to do that, but I figured in my own ignorance, I jacked it up.
Now I am not sure how to load th stock rom from my hboot. Everthing I select gets me nowhere except for recovery, takes me to the clockwork recovery, with no way to restore backups.
did I post this in the wrong section?

Dont worry about it being the wrong section right now. The important thing is getting your phone back in working order. Give me a sec to boot up my notebook and I'll walk u through it cause typing all this using my phone is a b*tch.
sorry about the post.
on the hboot screen, I selected recovery, which takes me to the clockwork.
I selected Nandroid, then restore, chose any backup, then Yes-Restore.
I get:
Checking MD5sums...
Erasing boot before restore...
Restoring boot image...
Error while flashing boot image!
Yup. Q&A is technically where it should be... but oh well.Download this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=791019 rename and put it on the root of your card. Boot into hboot and when it asks you if you want to update say yes. Should put you back to stock ota.
haha, thanks. I really appreciate it. I didnt even look to see if it was one. I couple of times Ive been on this site, Ive read in the development section, and figured, that was the default evo section.
guess nada...
shucks,
I guess ill have to find an sd-card adapter. i cant access the card from the phone, thanks to >>>> me
Gadget beat me. OH NOES ^^
lol, let us noe if you're good or need more help.
EDIT:
jovan u can toggle usb mode from recovery and access your sd card that way

So, does that mean your phone is ok again?
@ OP, you should check to see if your eng boot has been replaced. If you used the files from the earlier post chances are it has been replaced and you may have to go through the whole process again if you want to try cm.
Well its in the middle of updating, and the #5 Boot= Fail PU
Guess Ill see what happens shortly...
What the screen says:
PARTITION UPDATE FAIL!
honestly lovethyevo,
I dont know how to check if it has been replaced... I guess ill try the link you sent me earlier...
well I did it again, and the boot updated fine...
we'll see how it goes...
Hmmm...if things still aren't working, it may be easier to:
1.) Download another rom.
2.) Plug your phone into your computer
3.) Go back into Clockwork recovery.
4.) Data Wipe, Cache Wipe, Dalvik cache wipe.
5.) Hit the 'partition menu' option and from there hit 'mount usb storage'(this is what allows you to access your sd card from your phone thru your computer while in recovery mode)
6.) copy the rom you downloaded onto your computer.
7.) Flash the rom(and cross fingers)
This should allow u to, at the very least, boot your phone up again and start over.
Thanks, as soon as you posted that, my phone rebooted!
I could just erase this PC36img from my sd card correct?
Im back to the clockwork recovery screen.... Guess ill start over.
Thanks for all the help!, especialy this early in the AM!

Good to hear. And yes, you can delete it from your sdcard but might I suggest holding off until after u finish "starting over". Just in case u run into the same snag. lol

Hello everyone!
I just updated ROM Manager which prompted me to update my CWM Recovery to 5.0.1.0. Well, I just did so, and now I'm stuck at the HTC screen at boot...
Will reinstalling the ROM fix it? Or is there simpler solution?
Thanks!

Pull the battery and phone should restart normally, seems to be a few bugs with this new release some say to flash the new recovery from fastboot,I found that reflashing from ROM manager a second time worked, still get the odd hang but tested backup and restore which seem to work and I am using it. Over on the DZ forums there is alot of similar stories, either go back to an earlier version or try reflashing again.

Thanks for your reply; unfortunately, pulling the battery was the first thing I tried and still got the same result
Is there a way to go back to a previous CWM version *through* the recovery menu maybe? [EDIT] Ah yeah, you say so, but how? I can't even find a link for it outside the market...

Can you get into recovery?
If not, to use fastboot you need to have ADB set up on your computer, search the forums for a guide.
Let me know if I can help further.
Yeah, I can get into recovery alright. I'm now browsing the CMW repository, damn if I can remember what name the HD goes by
[EDIT] According to this it's the Ace. Keep forgetting...
[EDIT2] I pushed 5.0.1.0 again, same result. I've just pushed 3.0.2.6, but... still stuck?!? Ok, now I'm stumbled. Any help much appreciated...
PS How can you update Recovery through Recovery? I see no such option?

yes, I get stuck in the HTC screen, but I can get into Recovery by removing the battery, powering up and keeping the VolDown keypress just fine. Both Recovery images that I mentioned work OK, but I jsut can't get past the HTC logo when booting normally...
Yes, I got all the programs required set up.
Thanks for helping out...
Could you restore a nandroid then?It sound like something got messed up,if you can get into recovery then the problem must lie with the rom?So try restoring a backup or flash a new ROM
Yeah... I didn't have enough room on the SD for a backup so there's none unfortunately. So I guess it's down to reinstalling the ROM and all the mods again, which I was trying to avoid, but oh well, that's life I guess!
Once more, many thanks.
Some things are worth making some space for........ Glad to help, hope a reinstalled ROM gets you up and running again

Did you do a full wipe (system, data, and cache) before flashing? Are you S-Off with AAHK or S-On with unlocked bootloader?

I cant see if i´m S-ON or Off because i can´t go to the original boot menu, but i think its S-Off because the Rom that was in the phone before i messed with it was not the original

An unlocked bootloader with S-On still permits flashing of custom ROMs. Is your recovery updated? If not, do that.

The guide in post #7 of the guide in my signature is pretty clear. Read that. What is important to know is whether your phone is S-On bootloader unlocked or S-Off. Since you didn't hang on the boot splash when you flashed ARHD, I'm guessing S-Off. But just to be safe: to find this information, reboot while holding power and volume-down. That is your bootloader, known as hboot. What does it say? Finally, my hunch is that you need to update your recovery. The guide has instructions for that, but basically, download the image to your computer and flash it from fastboot.
Oh, and you may need to install your drivers on your computer. Install HTC Sync from the HTC website.

When you're tired, it's best to get some sleep. Most mistakes happen when sleepy and tired (been there!) so I'd suggest a little shut-eye and continue then
Sounds to me like the problem will get solved pretty soon, just read the guides and don't rush things. If unsure, read the guide (for what-ever you are doing) a second or a third time and don't try doing many things at the same time (ie.don't try updating your radio, rom, & recovery all at the same time ).
Pretty much anything can be fixed as long as you got recovery working so don't stress too much. Best of luck and hope you get your phone working soon :good:
Still havn´t found a solution for my problem, but i think i´m on to something....
I think the problem with my phone is the boot.img.... i can´t flash it correctly...
Dont know what program to use or what file to download.... i tried openning a command list but i and type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" as i´ve seen on other posts but i always get "this is not known as an internal or external command, etc...."
What can i doooooooooooooo?!!!! going crazy with this
Hey buddy, stay calm haha. I had the exact same problem. The problem is that although you tried to flash it, you nee to have the boot.img and some files including fastboot.exe. All of the files you need and how to flash the rom are in a guide by glevitan. You can just google it.

Hello there!
I have never posted on XDA and I hope this is the right section.
So here it is guys:
I have recently installed the KitKang ROM from a tutorial on this forum (XDA LINK) for a friend of mine on his HTC Desire ...
Now whilst the phone was in perfect running order, I even managed to create an EXT partition for apps on the SD card and installed a2sd, worked like a dream for a few days ... when he was watching youtube one day the phone rebooted and since then only boots into HBOOT, the volume keys do not work to navigate, the power button does nothing, I can't even get into recovery mode.
I have spent 3-4 hours carefully reading forum posts and tried everything ... nothing works as the phone is not even being recognized when plugged in to the PC with USB.
This is the troubleshooting guide I used along with many others! LINK
I've tried my best to resolve this problem and NOTHING is working
I only get the white HBOOT screen and everything else is unresponsive (tried putting the Alpharev img on the SD, that doesn't work either).
JUST TO RECAP:
- No recovery available
- Unresponsive HBOOT
- Phone does not work with USB (only charges)
Can someone please assist me, I will be very grateful!
Info:

I am not a complete noob when it comes to android but not very advanced yet.
I just want the phone to go back to stock or any other STABLE ROM.
Thank you very much for all your help in advance.
Try booting directly into fastboot (using power + back). Then plug it into a PC via usb cable. Does it say "FASTBOOT USB" on the screen?

I just tried that now but nothing happens, it boots straight into HBOOT and it is still unresponsive, my computer still doesn't recognize the phone. Tried different ports and cables too... have you got any other suggestions? Maybe there is something I'm doing wrong.

Try flashing the 2.3 RUU using the PB99IMG method.
I have already tried this method, my bootloader doesn't read the file, gives me back a few errors.

Strange it should detect it even if it won't properly flash. Double check:
It's named:
- "PB99IMG.zip" exactly, think it even requires all upper case.
- not "PB99IMG.zip.zip".
I don't mean to sound insulting with the second one, but I've seen it done
Hey, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately the phone doesn't detect the file, I am 100% sure. What ill do is get another sd card, maybe my one is corrupted somehow.

Can't figure this out to be honest.
When you boot into bootloader with the PB99IMG.zip image, it should do a scan, then find it.
Then it should give you the option 'do you want to flash it?' or something like that, press power to select I think. Was so long ago since I had to do this myself. Does it resemble anything like this?
Make sure u put the zip in the root of sd.

Did u check the MD5sum of the file? Cant really think of why it reads it then not let u choose to flash it.
Yes I did. Everything is fine with the file. I dont get it either ... I started suspecting the buttons being broken ... but it doesnt explain why the phone turns on yet cant use the power button to select any options. The volume buttons do not function at all. I get into HBOOT just by pressing the ON button and then it turns on.
