Ever since I flashed LeeDroid 1.8b, I've been having this odd problem. I've wiped the phone since and have flashed Open Desire 3.1.0 and I love it but I'm terrified to reboot my phone.
The phone will boot and freeze at the HTC white screen. This happens even if I try to boot into Recovery, (I can hold down vol+down and power button) but as soon as I select Recovery, it will freeze there at the HTC screen.
The only solution I have is to pull the battery and try again. It will do it around 2 - 3 times before it finally boots into Clockwork Recovery Mod SLCD or boot into Open Desire if I don't boot into recovery. This is the same if I decide to REBOOT the phone or power down and boot up.
This problem never happened when I originally flashed Cyanogen. I'm thinking there's still some files or something left that causes this freezing.. I also did a wipe and delete cache before flashing a new rom.
Does anyone else have this problem or help me sort it out?
Edit: Ah shoot.. wrong forum My bad..
no one?
Although Lee newer acknowledged it, I think it has to do with his ROM. I experienced the same issue while running 1.8b, with 1.8c I haven't rebooted by now, but still I have experienced this only after switching to his ROM and I noticed I am not alone on the ROM thread (other people are complaining too about getting stuck at the bootscreen).
I have changed many ROMs (generic 2.1, generic 2.2, pays, adamg ROM...) and never had such an issue, that is why I think it has to do something with lee's ROM.
If you have OpenDesire I would suggest to reboot it just to see how it will go.
Thanks for your response man! The problem is that I've wiped and everything and flashed Open Desire and I'm still experiencing the issue. Is there another way I can completely delete/format any traces of any previous ROM? I believe there's still some sort of remnants of his files left that are causing this!
THanks,
JD
A full wipe can never hurt.
As for freezing at the HTC screen when trying to boot into recovery, I experience this too. What I have found is that if I press no buttons after booting into HBOOT, until HBOOT has tried to load from the SDCard, and THEN selecting Recovery, Recovery boots every time.
However, if I push a button before HBOOT has loaded from the SDCard, I will freeze on the HTC screen regularly.

I will definitely try that.. do you ever have problems booting though? I freeze on the HTC screen during boot up as well and have to do 2 - 3 battery pulls before it finally decides to boot!
I do not, but hopefully a full wipe (data, cache, dalvik, etc) will solve that. Have you tried wiping everything?
I have, but the only wipe I perform is the one in the Clockwork Recovery. Also deleted the cache, but never have deleted or wiped dalvik cache?
I will try this later today and see what happens.. thanks!

Just sayin' I've not ever had a boot problem like this with LeeDrOiD. Running 1.8c at the moment.
Ditto.. No issues, its not a rom issue, you may have bad blocks on your nand.

Hmm.. anyway to confirm this? It's a brand new device, barely two weeks old and never had this issue until I flashed 1.8b.. I'm going to try to wipe it completely and go from there, hopefully that solves the issue.
What's a nand?
Hi Quazis,
I have had a very similar problem with my Telstra desire after rooting and installing a Lee based rom called NexTSense. After that I installed Open Desire and experienced the same problems.
I am just now re-rooting my phone and going to install Pinky.
Just out of interest are you running on the 850mhz Rogers network? If so have you updated to the latest radios (5.09.20 I think?)? Telstra runs off this frequency also and I think it may have something to do with incompatible radios. -- Can anyone confirm this?
If this is the case maybe try Open Desire without updating the radios?
Hey,
We got the A8182 version of the Desire which has 850/1900 (I believe), so both bands that run on 3G.
Before I flashed LeeDroid, I had updated the radio (.20) and was on Cyanogen nightly build. I had no booting problems with that ROM, but I wanted something a little more stable. I modded it as well and the phone booted up no problem, also into recovery.
Once I flashed LeeDroid, that's when my problems arose. I only wiped/formated data and the cache.. I never formated that dalvik cache. I will wait until Open Desire 3.2.0 releases today and try that a full wipe/format.
Another member said he doesn't touch anything on the phone when he boots into recovery until the phone does the SD card check.. I tried it once and it went into recovery with no issues so maybe pressing buttons before the SD check does something??
I don't, but I did a full flash, and used my separate test sd card.

I'm going to do this.. thankfully I have't customized my phone a lot so I'm going to format both the FAT32 and EXT3 partitions and full wipe.. to do a full wipe.. there's only data/factory, cache, davlik cache and battery stats correct? If I wipe those 4 items in Clockwork, that's considered a full wipe?

Full flash wont help. I know because I did it.
I am to lazy from installing different ROMs, resetting my device, etc... so I will leave it as it is for now (LeeDroid 1.8c), and will try to reboot it as rare as possible (bootscreen takes a while, bootloop is possible too). But when I'll have some more time I will re-root and install another ROM and I am sure the issue will be gone.
Lee, nothing personal (in the end, I am using your ROM right now) but I think you should read more carefully the thread about LeeDroid. You will see many people get stuck at the booscreen and/or their devices keep rebooting with this ROM.
I don't have this issue with the same ROM as you.
-----------------------------------
- Sent via my HTC Desire -
Yes, not everyone has that problem (in that case we wouldn't need to talk about it - we would KNOW it). Just some people have this issue with that ROM. I would say 5% of the people have the bootloop problem, and 10% of the people have longer-than-average the bootscreen.
Still, it worths taking a look since 3-4 people from 10 participants on this thread say they have this problem with -this- ROM.
My 2 cents.

Why won't a full flash help? I don't have LeeDroid anymore, I had it for about 10 minutes because I didn't like it. I've since gone to Open Desire and the issue still persisted.. but it never happened when I had Cyanogen installed.
I'm scared to re-root because it requires a reboot and sometimes the HTC screen never goes away.. lol
hey there, its intresting to see that you have the same problem as me,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755835&highlight=Recovery+Issue
the people who are saying they dont have a problem, i'd like to know what recovery you are using?
and what hboot you orignally came from, i.e. do you have a SLCD screen? and how did you root?
because it is now becoming obvious that leedroid rom is causing this issue as a lot of people are having problems.
during the weekend i will try flash the RUU for WWE with the hboot 0.83 included (using gold card)
and start from scratch and flash another.
no disprespect to the developer of leedroid, his work is good. just a lot of people on hboot 0.83 with the SLCD screen have issues.
Here's my first ROM. It's based off TMoUSA stock rom, but I tore out all of the HTC junk I could and rooted it.
1)Wipe everything by going to CWM (alquez's version). Clear Data, then go to Mounts and storage and format boot and system there too.
2) Next install the ROM from zip.
3) without rebooting, go to CWM and install Melethron's data2whatever.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867049
Then reboot. If you get a white HTC logo page, reboot and clear cache and dalvick cache and data. Let it boot.
Try this a few times if it doesn't work the first time.
I boot with 459mb out of my 512 partition free. 18mb used.
This is running important system files from your SD so I'd suggest using a quality SD card and backing up your system regularly. Don't worry about class of card if you have a quality card like SanDisk or Kingston. They are plenty fast enough.
Thanks to:
Tara Tike for all the time testing the removal of these apps.
Tyrone1 for also working on TMOUS roms
Alquez for CWM and CM7 work
melethron for data2WE
darktremor for apps2SD
and of course
This was built with dsixda's kitchen.

Thanks alot...totally love it!
I have run into a problem though...only one, mind! I cant seem to get my 3g data connection going. My wifi is grand, and my gps appeares to be working...but while my 3g says its connected, it isnt.
No doubt a simple problem, but i am lost. I flashed this on with cwm and no problems whatsoever(although i created mahor problems earlier by accidentially wiping a system and formatting the sd card so i had nothing to boot into! Somehow managed to get CWM back on after trial and error)
Any help gratefully appreciated...surprised i am the only one? Was using CWM rom but had the same issues with both wifi and 3g turning on and off wothout warning..
I'm guessing this one will not work with virgin either? Hey thehumble, I am also in possession of a xtc chip in Philly too! Didn't need it though.
I'm pretty sure this won't work for virgin. Not sure but I think you should probably cook your own based on your stock rom. I can show you how or you can follow the guides.
well my XTC is in NYC right now and the dude hasn't sent it back in 2 weeks so I'm getting upset. There are other people out there that need it...
also: none of my business, but what did you hope to accomplish on a CDMA phone with a SIM-based unlock tool? he he he
Hi all,
I have HTC wildfire for almost a couple of years, recently it started to randomly restart, about 5-8 times a day (the phone is off during the night).
At the time it begun I had OLDWildPuzzleROM_2.2 Froyo v8.0.11 ROM, with HBoot 0.8.
Before the restarts happened I rooted my phone using unrEVOked-3-2-Windoze (it stayed S-Off though).
I don't think the restarts happened right after the root so I'm not sure that is the cause
I few days ago I flashed it with "RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.2 4H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed" which changed my HBoot from 0.8 to 1.01.0001. I found the ROM here and followed the instructions.
I had to make a goldcard (I formatted the SD card using the phone and not using the PC).
My phone continues to randomly restart.
We don't have HTC representative in my country, only non official labs that deal with repair, so I can't go to the company for repair. talking to the lab guy he says it is probably a software issue and not a hardware issue, though I don't understand how it is possible since I flashed a completely new ROM. Oh, and the lab guy says he will charge me whether the repair works of fails....
Do you have any suggestions?
Many thanks
PS
I read about boot loop, I'm not sure what boot loop is, but when my phone restarts it shows the HTC logo as it does during power on or full restart.
bootlooping is random restarting or continuous looping of boot.
reasons could be many......
overclocking your cpu to high.
low on memory (too many apps installed / running).
v6 / supercarger / juwwes ram scripts etc etc.
MokeeOs
So that doesn't apply to me
I don't overclock
I have restarts even without installing any apps
I don't know what v6 / supercarger / juwwes ram scripts mean
any ideas of what should I do?

like slymobi already mentioned it could have several reasons - but we've already excluded a few...
Another idea is to start your phone without the sdcard and look if the reboots continue
Important: flashing a different ROM to solve the issue almost doesn't help if you haven't done a complete wipe/factory reset - it has also been reported (not confirmed, though) that Clockworkmod recovery randomly fails with wiping - so it might also help to repeat the procedure.
Probably slymobi will point to a thread where he explains a complete wipe... (you could search in his threads - I'm busy and it's really hot here atm )
I mean: to be sure I always try to format + wipe + factory reset (sound redundant but feels safer...)

thank you,
I will try to find a tutorial that illustrates how to do a format and complete wipe, I will appreciate it if someone will have the time to point one, but will look for it myself too.
so I understand you all think it is not a hardware issue.
BTW I did a factory reset on my original ROM before I flashed a new one.

Does "wipe" as you call it the same as factory reset? if so that I did but no format.
In the recovery go under Mounts and Storage and select Format System.
Technically factory reset is a wipe, it wipes cache, data and sd-ext

There's another thing you might want to check: a lot of people had reboots when they (or the phone) switched on 3G. So do you have reboots, too, with data/3G off?
Furthermore I also know of at least one case where the reboots were caused by a damaged battery - so it might be a hardware issue as well - but in most cases I know of it hasn't been

yes but as you probably know, sometimes that might just not be clean enough...
reboot into recovery, power off then volume down button and power button at same time,in this menu, using trackball to select,
wipe data / restore factory settings,
wipe cache,
go into advanced and wipe dalvik cache.
press power button to go back.
go into mounts and storage,
format data,
format cache,
format system,
format sdext,
DONT FORMAT SDCARD
you have now wiped your phone clean.
press power button to go back,
install rom from sdcard, navigate to where your rom is on your sdcard and select / confirm,
let it install..........
don't reboot,if gapps are needed?
flash correct gapps in same way as you just flashed rom........
reboot.

gapps is the google apps package.needed for most non sense roms I think
its fine that you have formatted the sdcard at that stage. I meant whenever your performing recovery wipes to be careful not to format sdcard as it does exactly what it says and you will delete all contents of sdcard.

Yes you can.
First download the file I attached and this file: http://www.mediafire.com/?lkhsl6hojm7vplv
Put both on the SD card
Flash the first one in the recovery, this will give you a temporary 2.5.X recovery, that goes away on reboot.
Within that recovery flash the second file I put up (the radio file itself)

That's my point exactly, I never flashed a ROM on a cell phone
I used the RUU exe, it was as simple as running a windows application.
Do I have to root the device? and mimic a ROM update procedure to do that?
Or wait, is it by using the bootloader menu that comes up when you press down+power on?

I have an ongoing issue with Galaxy W phone and CM.
The problem is that the phone spontaneously decides to not boot.
I had run CM10 from first Alpha, and on a couple of occasions it would, after several days or weeks use, stay on the CM spinning logo, and refuse to go to interface.
I got around this by keeping a couple of Nandroids handy and just restored them when the boot issue occurred.
On subsequent fresh install, I ran for a couple of weeks with virtually no app installations, to see if something I was running was causing the issue. Turns out no relationship.
I have just flashed Alpha 7 of CM 10 and now its doing it again. This is a fresh install.
I re-downloaded the ROM from the second mirror, and tried flashing with that, but get the same result.
Is it possible the flash memory in my phone is faulty? On a PC if you install an OS - fresh install - and it wont boot, generally its either RAM or HDD. Given this is a recurring issue, I wonder if its the phone, rather than the OS thats causing the problem - as I have tried with several of the Alphas and both download locations of the most recent Alpha and its still happening.
Can anyone suggest?
Is there a chkdsk option for phone flash memory?
thanks

I8150TDULM1_I8150TVAULG1_VAU.zip
Its as though it has a partition called /sdcard, and can't mount the content of the physical card itself. Anyone seen this before? Is there a way to re-partition internal memory?

Thanks guys, very much for your replies
By "clean install" I have gone to wipe menu of CWM and wiped everything, then CM with wipes, then Gapps.
Ok so I need to try to flash with stock ROM. I had considered that but could not find an Australian ROM in the I8150 section of the Forum. Can anyone tell me where I can get one from?
- or -
-- maybe its ok to flash with any English ROM - will achieve the same thing? - sorry if this is a dumb question - I just dont want to make the situation any worse

Just do full wipe you'll not wipe cwm!
My suggestion: Go the Pristineā¢ Way.

I tried that zip, but it started to install and the phone shut down/restarted at beginning of install (just after wipes)
Can anyone else confirms this file actually works?
Is there a Tread source I can refer to?

The sd-card is probably faulty. Do you have a third sd-card, not this one, nor the 4GB you used to use, but another one to test if it's working properly?

Usually Samsung sd-cards work best with the HTC Desire. Try getting a class 6 or class 4 sd-card.
Ok i try to get a new sd card with that specs, but i like to know if the sd card can be the only factor to my problem, because i try to install many roms like leedroid, cooldroid v9, mildwild, and every rom show me a differente errors as leedroid get stuck in a reboot loop, cooldroid revolution v9 get stuck in the black htc logo, mildwild show error of the kind "sorry the process com...." with almost every app (this happen with 2 or 3 roms i try) the rom i used before this problems is oxygen 2.3.2 and work fine without no problem but now i install this rom and every time a install an app the phone makes a quick reboot and show me the welcome message of the rom every time, i search for a solution or explanation but i dont found anything similar to my problem, maybe someone have any idea of what happen whit this??

If no ROM with an a2sd script works properly, then, yes, it's an sd-card error. You could try many other ROMs.
Oxygen doesn't have an a2sd script by default.
Just in this moment im trying to flash a rom with a different sd card but i have a problem again im going to flash the cyanogenmode 7.2 because i have this in a previous installation and i like the rom, but now i install the rom and get stuck in the htc logo, i really dont understand what is happen with my phone apparently took own life and is doing what he want :crying: im going to try with another rom
thanks
Well this is my update, i wipe/format everything, cache, dalvik, data, system, boot, sd-ext i mean everything, and now i can flash the rom that i want, the other thing is i get a 2gb sd card and i use this with and ext patition of 512mb just for try, and all work fine, in this moment i already install many apps and use the mounts2sd, the apps are use around the 200mb.
In conclusion my big problem is and always be the sd-card. :silly:
thanks to everybody for your help, i want to make a guide for newbies like me who have this kind of problems
Hi, this is my new update, i purchase an micro sd card kingston of 16gb class 4, i put in my phone create the sd ext partition of 1gb and flash the cyanogen mod 7.2, everything works fine, i install the mounts2sd and configure it and work fine too with this i can install many apps without the memory problem. But my really issue is the phone is working really slow i never experience this before, i open the camera and get stuck, open the browser and get stuck, the only option when i open something and get stuck is hit the home key and send me again to the desk screen.
Any idea of what happen? i think at first is was a problem of speed in the cpu but i see in the configuration is fine, i also think if flash to many times in a row the phone can damage anything?? I dont know what to do in this moment.
Thanks.
