[Q] Audio over USB - Windows Mobile Software Development

I want to connect my Windows mobile to My car's Head unit using a USB and I want to play some music which should run in my mobile and the audio should come out from Head Unit's speaker (via USB) . What are Protocols are available for developing such applications ? And How should I approach this ? Is there any kind of reference available ?

It depends on your device whether the USB supports audio OUT or not.
HTC devices often do, but then it's not a normal mini or micro USB port anymore but a specific one.
In the latter case you simply need an adapter for connecting normal USB and audio OUT at the same time.
Sascha

simply connect your device using the provided usb cable to your car's player and choose "Device Storage" mode. you can try putting your audio files on the root of the storage card.

you are gonna need an FM transmitter and an auxiliary cable to do this.

he may not need an FM transmitter or an auxiliary cable, since he has this feature (direct usb connection) in his car's player.

USB GPS Receiver capable?

Hey guys...
After reading the last wm6 vanilla thread, i can imagine how annoying i was w/ the wm6 black 2.0 release b*ing and whining about how i coudln't my wireless to work...
anyways, i'll try to cut the stupidity posts to a minimum but in the meantime maybe someone has tried using a usb gps receiver on their phone.
i'm trying to configure ports and stuff via usb, but not too sure what baud rate, which com port etc to set everything at for maximum usage... in fact i don't even know if the darn thing works with my phone either
about to reinstall googlemaps to see if the usb will work....
i know everyone is using bluetooth, but i had this garmin usb 18 laying around for my laptop and bought a usb --> mini usb adapter and thought i'd try it
if anyone has tried, please help me out... thanks

Not a stupid question, a stupid place to ask it. Try here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=307
you can't connect a USB GPS to the phone.
the USB GPSs require a server side USB port, the phone is only a client USB port. Hence, you can't connect peripherals to it such as GPSs, printers etc...
Bluetooth GPS units work very well with the Hermes though!?

Car stereo USB

I could connect all of my other android phones to my car stereo with the usb. But now it isn't working at all for me with the GSII.
Thinking maybe I need to put the music on the internal storage and not the microsd?

That's a great question, but, I think the reality of the situation will be worse than that as it doesn't mount as a disk drive in quite the same way. I'm sure AOSP roms can address this, but, until then I'm not so sure.

when you plun in your ET4G to your stereo you should be able to navigate to the external sd card
on your phone its under
/sdcard/external_sd
i hope this helps.
OP, were you able to fix this issue? I'm having the same problem with my Epic 4g Touch. Unfortunately, my clarion cz300 stereo does not allow me to navigate to any folders. It automatically scans the entire sd card for MP3 and WMA files.
you should PM him and ask him to reply in this thread for us all to see.
Try going into the settings to wireless and network > USB utilities. press the button to connect as a storage device. This works for me. Can't remember if I was able to switch it before or after I connected the USB cord. It's been a while since i've had to use it. Let me know if that works.

Thanks, but I've already tried that to no avail. I've read through 20+ threads and tried every single suggestion. I'm starting to think my phone is not compatible with the stereo.

Galaxy S III and Car USB Stereo

Anyone know how to make songs play through USB on a car stereo? I had no problem doing this with my Galaxy S II, but I don't think the GSIII supports USB Mass Storage which would be the issue? Any suggestions?
It works; I connected my SGIII via USB to my Headunit; switched to AUX, and the files loaded up. I can only change and see the music selection through the headunit, however; where are your files located? Make sure that they are running from the Microsd Card, and NOT from the "MUSIC" folder in the Internal Memory. Hope that his helps!

It can work but you have to Root and install SGS3
easy UMS and switch to Mass Storage mode before you connect.

Can you elaborate on this a little? I don't quite follow. I did read a method by installing an app from the play store but as the other guy said it requires root to enable usb mass storage. Was kind of hoping I didn't have to go that route.
I tried plugging in via USB on my new Hyundai ix35, but all I got was "Reading Error". I haven't tried the easy UMS on the car yet, but I'm not really hopeful, since it doesn't work with my windows computer.

I have a 2012 Hyundai Genesis R-Spec; and what I did was connect the USB to the phone. On the phone, make sure that your music is on the MicroSDCARD (I labeled mine MUSIC) Hit the "AUX" button; the head unit will start to read your phone. It will load up all of the songs on the Microsd Card; all of the song titles and Individual Folders Show up just fine. I DID NOT HAVE TO ROOT to make this happen; the trick is to not save the music on the Internal Memory (labeled SD CARD), but to the MICROSD CARD (labeled Ext SD CARD) No Problems.....If I can answer any additional questions, let me know.
Cheers.
Riggy
I'm happy to test this on an Alpine head unit before I move over to CM9, then test again on CM9. Work finishes in about 2 hours so it won't be until then though.
Dallas did it work for you? Thanks
Greatly helpful thread! Thanks! I do have an additional question though... I tried to hook up my GSIII to my Genesis using the USB cable to listen to online radio while driving... but that didn't work... Using an audio cable is OK but somehow the quality is not there (I tried increasing the volume of my GS III all the way and I still had to increase the volume on my stereo quite a bit before I could get decent sound). I came from an iPhone where I could connect using the proprietary USB and charge and listen to online radio at the same time... So I am hoping I can find the same thing for my GS III. Any help will be highly appreciated...
Summary: Is there a way to get audio out of the USB cable to my car while also charging my Galaxy S III?

I'm continuing to search for a way to listen to music via USB with my GS3 in my 2014 accord. I'm rooted running a 4.3 based touchwiz rom.
Has anyone found a solution?

[Q] sgs3 USB communication with my car stereo

I've searched around to different forums and haven't really gotten a clear answer for this. I used to be able to play my music from my iphone simply by connecting it to my usb plug in my car. the sgs3 doesn't do that. I've read it is because it uses mtp instead of ums for data transfer now because there are no partitions in the drive. Supposedly there is a way to use ums by an app that was created for the i9300, but I have the US sprint model and I wonder if that would work on my phone. Plus I would like to know if I use this app, will it even solve my problem? Will I be able to listen to my tunes in my car without connecting the audio aux plug?
Thanks in advance,

I would like to know this too, My car radio doesn't have bluetooth support, so it's not an option for me and it doesn't work when I plug the phone in. This is the only thing keeping me from getting rid of my iPod!
I'm curious about this too. I just bought a Sony for its Sirius capabilities and it has Pandora support but I would like to listen to my phone's MP3 catalog too.

I just replaced my car stereo thinking I could use the USB in, I couldn't get it to work by default.
I'm left with using the aux in, which is nothing more than a stop gap solution.
Hoping that I can get it to work with usb too
Edit :
I forgot to try system >accessories >usb audio
I'll try when I get out of work.
2nd edit :
Didn't work
Sort of the same issue, compounded.
I have a 2012 volt and an S3/I9300 international version. I can't get it to play audio in my car for love or money. No roms, just stock...but bluetooth and auxiliary fails. Bluetooth says it doesn't recognize it, auxiliary jack says everything is hooked up but I get no sound.
I also have a bluetooth soundbar in my home; the phone connects fine but the sound comes through the phone still rather than the speakers. I feel like I'm missing something pretty basic here. Any help/guidance would be much appreciated. If there is an app that will fix this I'm totally game. Also anything to get rid of the samsun apps login that is constantly annoying me, or the German news sides that are preinstalled.
I'm a wreck lol. Love the phone otherwise though (other than ATT delivering my text messages roughly 72 hours after they were sent...all at once, from 3 to 6 am, like clockwork. I switched to t-mobile).
Wrong section dude, you want the international forums, this one is for the sprint variant only
I would suggest searching for usb input on the stereo and making sure its selected as the playback device. My ford fusion has bluetooth and usb but when i use usb i have to select it on the stereo to actually play music from my phone. Hope this helps...:good:

Possible to get midi input to our phones? [YES]

Is there a way to get midi input recognized on our phones? On my pc I use the rock band 3 keytar connected via a midi to usb adapter and I can do midi playback.
Is there a way to do this on our phones via an otg cable?
EDIT: got it done! check my post below.

it works beautifully and way easier than I expected.
connected my otg cable and the phone said usb connector connected (since when is this a thing!?), plugged in the midi-usb adapter to the otg cable and right away it prompted me to open with the software I linked above and another midi software I had installed.
and bam, it was working. I messed around a bit to find the better settings for my keytar, but this thing works. over Bluetooth and with the headphone plug. there's a little bit of lag over Bluetooth but for my uses I wanted it straight to the speaker so i'm using the stereo cable. now I don't need a pc to get sound out of the keytar.
mark this as one more day i'm amazed at what my phone can do.
by the way, it functions as a synth using the software I mentioned above, so I can play harpsichord, organ, piano, etc. and the sound keeps on playing even with the screen off.
happy camper = me.

I am trying to make my Android, Huawei p20 Pro, accept a MIDI signal via USB too.
I have an OTG adapter, and have tested 2 OTG adapters and 2 cords.
All work into my PC (even via an USB type-C to standard USB adaptor )
The issue seems to be that I cannot select the USB in type to be MIDI.
I have also experienced that on another Samsung Galaxy S10
I have tried opening developer settings and changing the setting "Disable USB Audio Routing" ON as per https://help.joytunes.com/en/articles/2636638-troubleshoot-midi-on-your-android-device
I have tried using it with 3 apps that accept MIDI.
Simple Piano by Joy Tunes, FlowKey and USB MIDI Monitor
Any ideas?
