[Q] Updating Market apps restored with Titanium - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Some apps that have been restored with Titanium Backup won't update in the market. The download will reach 100% and then the installation will fail, or it will just sit there.
Usually I can resolve it by unmounting the SD card, but that is really annoying, and I would like to find the cause & cure. Does it have something to do with the app's cache or something?

I had a similar issue. I think it might have to do with the market itself. Instead of updating the app from the update tab in market, search for the app in market and install from there. That has helped me.
Also, it helps if you post what your current setup is. Various roms, kernels and basebands can cause issues too. Not just titanium.

SkyRaider 3.0 Vanilla
#1 King Bad F*cking **** Kernel OC to 1.13

It's not titanium or the market from my experience, It's the kernel. The only time I haven't gotten hang ups was with the stock kernel.
Just cancel and re start the download. May take a couple tries :/

This is stock 2.2, rooted. I did an RUU install, and then used Titanium to restore my apps. They all show up in the market.
Once I have gotten an app to update with the sdcard unmount, subsequent updates appear to be fine. Still annoying though.

Oh hmm. I guess I wasn't on a stock kernel long enough to see it. I know I've seen other people post about it, guess it just bothers some people more then others.
I do wish there was a fix for it, or some way to realize what was causing it.

Maybe switching ROMs or re-flashing your current ROM will work. Give it a shot, backup your apps of course.

Are they apps that you have ever had installed? Try installing an app that you have never had installed and see if that works. If it does, then use a file explorer (I use astro), and see if there's anything in the folder titled ".android_secure" (without the quotes of course) on your sdcard. I actually had this problem before, and there was some left over app data that was interfering with the installation I guess
geez was hoping this would work but I just checked my astro application and checked android secure and all directories are empty. also this is a problem with applications that I ready have that need to be updated and brand new applications I am downloading from the market... I just get a triangle with an ! in the middle of itfor each application that did not successfully install... and this is a brand new problem haven't done anything different been running the newes t fresh for months now

What is your memory situation?
Froyo apps2sd ? A2sd ?
GO into recovery and clear cache and Dalvick cache.
Try wiping the market data this happened to me couldn't update or install anything and it worked

Did you install your previous apps from the market or did download apk's then install them? Try Settings>Applications>Manage Clear market cache and data that might work like the other person said. Check your memory. What rom are you using? Try backing everything up then go do a factory reset and then setup up your google account that's what I did when that happened to me months back and seemed to work. Hope I helped

Help! Problem with rooted phone.

Hello,
I rooted my Evo with Unrevoked a few weeks ago. However, my phone has been experiencing major issues. When I shut the phone down and restart it many of my links to programs are broken. I try to download the programs again but i get error messages that the download can not be completed. I have flashed different roms. I have updated the Radio etc. I cleared the data and cache before each flash. I have no idea what the problem is. Can anyone help?

What. Rom and kernel are you experiencing this on? When you say links to programs are you referring to apps?

What programs? please say more about the phone system.
Thank you for your quick replies.
I have flashed Calkulin and MikFroyo. Using the stock kernels for each.
When I click an app it will not open. Like when you uninstall a program on windows and the link to program remains but it will not let you open it because the program no longer exists. "app no longer installed" it also changes the icon to the market icon.
What recovery image did you use to flash the Roms?
Let me double check
Please try to use Amo-Ra is the best. Cm is known to have problems.
So flash this and report back if the problem persists? Thank You

You can actually flash it with Rom Manager App.
It sounds like your phone is not wiping correctly... maybe try caulks format all

Do you have a nandroid backup of your system with your apps? If not, did you restore your apps with something like Titanium? If no to both, you'll need to re-install from the market.

VaelPak urgent help needed

Just installed 3.2. I flashed what I'm pretty sure is the latest version of gapps after but there is no market app. I am also curious as to whether I will be charged for using the hotspot since it is the sprint version of the app.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
well i have been running it for a while now, and i dont know why you installed gapps after, i havent needed it, its all there in the rom, do a fresh install, if you are restoring apps dont restore the data, simply restore the apps, if you need any of the regular apps that are not preinstaled with the rom simply go to vaelpak setting, flashable mods, then apps, and you will find what you need there, and no the hotspot its free, hope it helps if not pm me, and ill ghuide you thru, been running it for a while now and havent had any trouble and i do mess with it a lot.
more info: also if you need to uninstall any apps that are consider system app inside vaelpak settings under device settings and other the is an option to safely uninstall system apps.
more info2: remember this is a sense rom, not asop, doesnt look like sense much, but it is
I was double installing google apps so it wasn't allowing me to sync my google account. I have had to flash them with all the roms that I have ran in the past, so I just did it out of habit for this one. Everything seems to be working great now. Thanks.

The only roms you have to flash gapps is with AOSP roms. Anything based on Sense, don't have to.

Titanium no longer restoring apps on CM7

I back up all my apps with Titanium prior to any update of CM7 nighties. My issues its after upgrading nighties I lose apps, no biggie, I backed them up with Titanium. Every time I restore the missing apps Titanium says "restore unsuccessful". Only way restoring apps works for me is if I do a full wipe every update. This is a pain! Any one else having this issue and have did you solve it, minus wiping every time?

It sounds like you're having a bigger issue, that also leads to not being able to restore apps.
The fact that you're losing apps when upgrading nightlies in incorrect. Flashing a nightly .zip doesn't overwrite anything but the system, which leaves everything else in tact. Not sure exactly what that issue would be, but I don't think TB is the problem.

The one and only time I've tried to use TiB, it failed; I messaged the dev and reported it to the support forum (which doesn't even exist anymore) and never got a reply. Waste of money, at least for me.

Very surprising. I've been using it for almost a year now, quite frequently, with no issues.

Just a hunch, are the apps you're restoring stored on the SD card? (a2sd)
If so, that might be the problem.

All browsers but Opera Mini Force Close

Title says it all. Since formatting my phone as ext4 and flashing CyanogenMod 7.2, no browsers - the preinstalled Browser or Opera Mobile - will work. Browser just FCs when it reaches somewhere around 90%, while Opera Mobile won't load past the splash page (it doesn't make it to the speed dial).
Oddly enough, however, Opera Mini works fine, albeit a little slowly.
On another note, I've also been having permission issues while installing Adobe Flash, whereas before using CM I had no problems.
Might the two issues be related?

Try fixing permissions from CWM
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda premium
Great, now the browsers work fine, though I had to reinstall my apps because they were force closing.
But now my home button doesn't work - at all - and my lockscreen seems to have vanished; it's not on Quick Unlock, not even CM Settings seems to realize it's not there anymore.

You may backup and do a clean install, download again to ensure theres nothing wrong, and look if its fixed

Well, nuts. I was hoping not to have to do that, but okay.
By the way, this may sound silly, but how, exactly, do you do a back up? I'm guessing you need an application like Titanium Backup? (And if that's exactly what I need, do I need the premium version?)
Sent from my GT-S5660 using XDA
You can use titanium backup, but I recommend nandroid backup from recovery, however you can restore the full rom, settings etc, but cant restore apps only or something.. So you can use both
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda premium
This is just getting stupid.
I backed up my apps+data with Titanium Backup, then the whole system with NANDroid. I suspected the latter wouldn't do anything useful, as it saves an image of the current state of the system, so if I was having trouble, what good would it do? But I restored via Recovery anyway, and, as I thought, it didn't change a thing.
So then I wiped everything all over again (and even reformatted with ext4-formatter.zip) including the two caches, reinstalled CM 7.2, applied the patch (which I didn't do before and is for the previous version of the ROM) and restored everything with Titanium Backup. It advised me to reboot, because Android thought there was little space left, and so I did.
Before I go any farther, let me just say that I restored ALL apps+data, not just the ones that were missing.
Moving on...
After the reboot, everything seemed fine (except I had to generate a new password for my Google account, as I use 2-step verification, but it makes sense as some of the apps didn't match up with the previous password).
But then, as I was changing some permissions for Adobe Flash player in Root Explorer, I noticed the home button had stopped working again. Before restoring, everything - and I mean everything - worked perfectly. So it's not CyanogenMod causing the problem, but an app or its data.
I will not vent my frustration here, but it looks like I'll have to start from scratch - for what seems like the 5th time now since getting into custom ROMs, which was only a few weeks ago - and reinstall all my apps. Including the Google ones, as apparently Market decides to let you choose which GApps to install for yourself (which is both a blessing - less bloat - and a curse - takes a lot longer).
Is there anything at all I can do to minimize the amount of time this is going to take?
Well, I've never heard of it before, so there is a problem causing this, on your phone.
I would suggest to go back to stock, do a fresh install, and think ablut apps that may be not able to trust its permissions...
It can be some sort of malware, but also just somethimg wrong flashed in /system
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda premium
Actually there's nothing wrong with my phone. I suspect that some data for a particular app was corrupted, but after yet another fresh install, everything works perfectly fine. I backed up everything with Titanium Backup so if anything goes wrong again I can restore from backups that I know work.
Thanks for the help.
