[REQUEST] HDR photography - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to build HDR functionality into the camera settings of either sense or AOSP ROMS? I was thinking of something similar to or better than the iOS 4.1 update for the iphone 4.

HDR FTW
I would also be very interested in a possible solution to this request.

Does anyone have any input on the possibility of something like this happening?

It's already happened. Camera 360 Pro in the market (by mAPPn, Inc.) has HDR functionality.

Is the iphone's hdr also a simulation or the real thing?

well, the iphones implementation of HDR is actually the real thing, the one I mentioned is a simulation. But it's a pretty decent simulation, and already available.

Rats. Came across a review on it a while ago that said it was supposed to be a pretty good simulation, but I haven't tried it myself. I just remembered the name of the app when I saw this thread, and thought it would be a workable solution. Oh well.
Sent from my blah blah blah blah

Thanks for the suggestion but I am looking for the real thing not simulated HDR. Actually I am just curious if its possible.

Best method is to get a stand or something to set your phone on. Turn exposure all the way down snap a shot to the middle snap a shot and all the way up. Then bring those images into photoshop or an hdr program and combine them. I think the IOS does this all automatically, but i suspect you would get a better hdr from doing it manually yourself.
I imagine someone could write something to automatically change exposures and snap another pic

T-Mobile Dash Camera APP?!?!?!?!

You know i been wondering... the camera application in our phone is after all a program that runs just like any other program in our phone right? thus being said... with all these applications made for the dash why has anyone yet to make an upgrade for the camera app? even tho the application is set to manufactures default settings so was the T-Mobile rom settings, but people were able to upgrade roms so why is it that we cant upgrade the camera app? maybe there is someone smart enough out there to think of this app. i mean all in all it would be nice to have some extra effects options or a brightness option you know... something to that effect would be a cool thing to have.
There are many Camera applications, I personally use the "stock" camera in conjunction with Cool Camera

yeah its kinda screwed up this app... maybe if you provide the settings you have set on your phone that way i can try to set the same thing on mine and then see if it will work or maybe you can guide me to a website that has more then one camera app on it that way i have a few apps to choose from cause you mentioned there was more then one. thanks so much.

Touch to set camera exposure?

On my iPhone the default camera app uses the touch to focus feature to also set the exposure. It seems not to be the case on the Galaxy and the only way to change the exposure is to point the camera elsewhere (I tried the 3 different exposure settings also). Is there any kind of 'touch to set the exposure' feature in the default or a 3rd party app?
Yes perfect idea, have somebody solution for this?

How do I get my old camera back?

I recently upgraded to 4.2.1(ParanoidAndroid 2.9.9) and the new camera(which I assume is the standard Google 4.2 camera) is very basic, and very weak compared to what I had. The old camera(which was also Google stock) had a lot of filters built in, and some hilarious distortions such as "Big Eyes" and "Big Head". My kids LOVE those. They are now gone, as is most of the awesome functionality I had. In it's place is Photo Spheres which I personally consider useless. Is there a way to get my old camera back? I don't want to be stuck on 4.1.1 forever but I hate this new camera!

You can install camera ICS from the market. The layout isn't exactly the same ( I assume it's mimicking the ICS camera layout) but it will give you back the filters, funny faces. And yes I wondered the same thing why did google remove them. Kids get tonnes of laughs out of those. I'd love to know how those decisions are made... 'Hey you know those features we've had in the wild for over a year? Yeah let's remove them'
my exact thoughts also, when i had the 16gb nexxy i updated and was VERY annoyed to find the effects deleted, so much it was one of the "cons" that pushed me into refunding for a non-updated 32gb version
im still 4.1 now lol i seriously dont understand why google would :
A: release nexus 7 without a camera app.....(yea i do know why but lame excuse)
B: when you update to 4.2 it deletes any camera app and replaces it with dah dah duh daaaaa a broken one with non-working photosphere.....wtf?
sooooooo mmmmm yeah ill remember this thread when i come to updating

Well I assume he meant the PhotoSphere which as best I can tell is not functioning correctly. I have not yet gotten it to work at all.

Because it's not supported for front facing cameras? That's not broken, that's design.

First of all, the app doesn't know which way your camera is facing, nor does it care. Second, I didn't even try it on my Nexus 7, I tried it multiple times on my Galaxy Nexus. Still broken. Never got a decent result. You may say it's operator error, but that's a ridiculous statement as well because it's pretty self explanatory.

ok so look basically it would be very stupid putting diesel into a petrol as it wouldn't work......
acer made it to remove any cam app we had previously then installed a app exactly the same but without the working effects, .... only 1 broken one..photosphere,
saying that its supposed to only work with a front face cam....well then why go to the trouble of jacking our old app and putting one with a feature we cant use......? :good:
Just saying, the app does know which way the camera faces... I assume something in the data for the camera tells the app its front facing. This is probably useful for apps such as Skype too.
When you try photo sphere, it says sorry not supported with front camera.

the strange thing is, you would think panoramic shot wouldnt work, yet in the cam effects pre-4.2 you can use panoramic efect albeit frontcam only, it did work thou.
i think photsphere from front cam, while your in the middle of the shot with the world spinning around you would be a great effect anyways.

You lost me at "Acer". And I hope you realize this is a general "4.2 Google Apps" statement, not something Asus did.

I found a good camera for CM11 & SlimKat

Camera KK this looks like it was built with CameraNext and has had the best results from any camera app on Fire Phone I have used. Even with flash!
I attached some unaltered shots outdoors and indoors with lights on and off in my server room.
Free has ads and $1.99 to remove them. So try it and let me know any tips you might find.
Still has flash issue in low light. It's going to take more than an app in the store to resolve the issue.
Nice, good find, flash pic quality looks similar to the ones from Snap Camera... I found the post I was thinking about:

No, but I do.
I tried reducing exposure -1 and that did a little but the flash normal was also pretty good. The pic from the op was in a completely dark room so have to see what low light looks like.

Oohhh very nice, that's a very solid result for basically "default settings"! Will download it and take on a "test drive" tomorrow.
Compared to the pics taken with the new Huawei Mate S, why are we even complaining...
(...added the quote about the Snap Camera settings in my previous post, SC requires a little more work to yield good results...)
HDR freezes the app... sigh...
... and so will * every other app when using HDR. I don't need it, some people can't live without it (looking at you, russy23 ^^).
Camera KK is a solid alternative to Snap Camera or Camera MX, and easy to use because of the stock Android look & feel.
*almost
Camera Zoom FX
I tried taking HDR pics using Camera Zoom FX and it didn't crash.
I also found a good camera app that works great on the slimcat rom: cymera. Flash works and great filters are integrated. Couldnt find an option for HDR though...
Could someone try Simple Camera, it went free in the amazon app store today. Didn't know if maybe being from the Amz App Store might make a difference in getting a good flash... I'm back on Stock Fire OS right now so I can't try myself...
Thanks,

Thanks for mentioning (It's free in the US store, in Germany for example, they want 74 cents, hehe)
But sadly, being from the Amzn Store means nothing. A lot of "Devs" (more like "copy paste coder" ^^) publish their apps on multiple portals to make a little more $$$. This app is the exact same version as on Google Play Store.
It's based on OpenCamera, it even creates the "OpenCamera" subfolder in the "DCIM" folder. ^^ Default settings: flash pics are overexposed...
edit: Also tried "Cymera" on the weekend. It's, uhh, very "girly". For people who love filters & gramin' it's a feasible alternative, I'll stick with the "functional" ones, like Camera KK.
Can't you use the camera apk from Fire OS? Or does that require all the Amazon framework, kernel, our HAL stuff?

Correct, source code for the camera HAL is needed. Highly unlikely that it will be released by Amazon.
Oh wait, we're all getting bootloader unlock codes for Christmas when they put the developer version under our trees.
LOL Camera KK force closes on me. Cymera works though.

I bought Snap Camera, it has a good amount of options for people who want to customize their photo settings.
Quality is good, flash pics work too, you can correct the exposure if needed (other apps have this as well, ofc.)
Right now, I'm still using Camera KK (free version), because I just need a simple "shooter", just like the stock android app.
Anyone found a decent camera to take pictures when light is low without using flash? My pictures are always too dark even if I try to change light exposure...

Unlock longer shutter speeds

Hello everyone,
Long story short, just bought nexus 5x, I have developed a few kernels in past for various devices, and I am little bit disappointed with n5x camera.
Phone does make awesome pictures, but it lacks longer shutter speeds, I would like to unlock it. Some people say that it is hardware limited, some that software, so here I am asking you how is it for real, and please, answer with any arguments, proofs, I would like to avoid guessing.
I would like to know if there is any sense in trying to unlock it and digging through source code.
Cheers
I managed to take photos with 1 s shutter speed with L Camera.

Most probably fake Bulb mode, which is as stated by app creator - fake. Just multiple 1/6s pictures stacked up together

Nexus 5 hardware is capable of capturing photos at 0.86s shutter speed (5x probably too). And this app uses this capability.
1 fps preview confirms this.

Thank a lot.
Now I hope that will be possible to implement this feaute on other (more advanced) camera apps (fv5,proshot,....)

I confirm the with L-Camere 0.3 is possible to have a shutter time of 1s (if I select 1/1,2) and the night photos are incredible
I asked to ProShot developer if is possible to implement this feature on his great app. I hope that is possible....
Looks like HTC 10 has same camera sensor and it's camera app allows to use 2s shutter speed, unfortunately, none of htc camera app versions let's me go manual on our nexus.
Also Xiaomi YI 2 action camera has it, and it allows up to 30s while taking pics. So i guess I/we would have to edit camera libs. I also emailed lcamera creator but I don;t think that he will respond.

Hey guys, I have Nokia 8 (TA 1012) and I don't like the fact that the longest exposure time is 1/2 s. Can you help me override it? To unlock longer exposure time.
