Is there any reason a nandroid restore would cause boot loops?

It could be if the originally created backup was corrupted when you created it, or it got corrupted when you attempted the restore. Try it again, it can't hurt. If it doesn't work flash another rom, or try another backup.
Also I would say to make sure to do a full wipe before you restore.
When asking questions try to put em in the q and a section as this is not development

I have Clockwordmod Recovery installed on my GSII (T989). If I do a full backup, and then flash a custom ROM/Kernel...can I just do a complete full restore if I don't like it (from the backup I made)?
Thanks!
Well there is no cyanogen recovery so that's probably why no one is replying fyi.

So I don't have to worry about losing anything? Once I restore, it will be like I never changed anything? (Almost like an image backup of a computer)?

No i wouldnt suggest doing that when u make a back up in cwm you making a backup of that rom! If your worried about your data use either
Titanium backup or
MyBackup Pro

umm...I thought CWM recovery backed up everything...including data (excluding microSD card).
So, if I restore it, it restores the original Kernel and ROM? Is that correct?
If something goes wrong, while flashing new kernels/ROMS, I can boot into recovery and just restore?
I'm already rooted, I just want to be sure before I start messing with my device.
Thaks!

you are correct the Nandroid backup built into the CWM recovery will back up everything on your phone as it is. including any ext partition on your external SD card. (will not backup your FAT partition where your normal downloads and pictures go, as this is where the backups are stored) but your ROM, all apps and their data and anything on your EXT partition (if you have one) will be backed up.
i suggest copying the clockworkmod backup folder to your computer before flashing anything else. just in case it messes up your SD card somehow.
doing the full restore will automatically restore ROM apps and data as they were when you backed up. feel free to flash as many roms as you want, just make sure to keep your backup safe. and to wipe all data in between roms as usual.
although titanium backup is amazing. and will backup apps and their data while booted inside your rom. its amazing, check it out.
Cwm backs up everthing including rom, kernel, and data. When you restore your backup it will restore your phone the way it was the moment that you backed it up.

I have TB Pro...are you saying it will back all of my apps/data up, and I can just restore it from within my new ROM?
Correct. Just use caution when trying to restore system apps.
Good.Luck!

Dude don't sorry so much!!! Super Noob!!! JK! Well not really you are never going to want stock again...just carefully flash your desired ROM.. use TB to restore all of your apps and their data. Do a nandroid back up of your current rom then one of your favorite roms after you set it up to you liking.

How can I back it up before installing a new ROM? I want to install juggernaut, but I don't want to erase all my data! Help! Please?
Go into recovery and run a backup
That will back up entire stock rom
I suggest doing this
If u want to back up ur personal data n apps use titanium backup or MyBack up pro

just back up your data with titanium backup
install new rom
restore data with titanium.
...you shouldn't be posting questions on this thread
! only for devs !

You are in the wrong forum buddy, this belongs in general. To answer you're question. You need to boot into recovery, under backup and restore you are going to select backup and this will create an image of your current rom or stock os. It's like taking a picture that you can restore if you don't like what ever rom you flash. It even copies text msgs and apps.

CWM saves to the SD card - which isn't touched in a factory reset
So it's my day off, so I thought I'd spend some of that time messing around with my phone. First thing I do is create a nandroid with CWM, because I'm not an idiot.
Only apparently I am, because after fouling up a restore of a new rom with an unrelated to my nandroid issue I'm working on resolving (Something in my TB backedup data causes Android.process.acore to force close) I restored my nandroid.
Only to be stuck staring at the Galaxy SII logo.
Does anyone know what can cause a bootlock like this just from restoring a nadroid? I've tried just rebooting into recovery and restoring it, wiping cache/dalvik and restoring, full wipe and restore.... nothing. Bootlock.
Please help, and a million thanks in advance.
Are you sure it actually backed up properly. I got caught out there like that one time where I thought I backed up my rom but it failed and did not notice it till I restored.
Check the folder size that your actual backup is in and compare it the file size of another backup you hopefully have

It's the right size. The other nandroid I had was 1.08 gb, this one is 1.1 gb, so
it's definitely the right size.
If it was on ics and you used el26cwm then you have to restore the nandroid backup then flash an ics kernel.

If you wiped the data then it was erased... formatted the partition, same thing. It's gone.
Lesson learned....
Next time, if you make a backup CWM or otherwise, before doing any ROM installs, copy the backup to the external SD Card and/or your computer. That way, if you have to, you can copy the files back to the phone and recover the previous state. I am not really sure that the CWM backup does the modem partition, cause I thought my modem was a different version and restoring did not change the version to what I thought it would be. Don't hold me to the fire on that, like I said, I may be wrong on that....
Good Luck, & Aloha!
Thanks for the lesson. Dont know why CWM didnt save the backup to external in the first place. But there is still about 1gb data missing for some reason.
For some odd reason, when I tried to make a nandroid backup yesterday, TWRP was only able to backup the boot and the system and when it tries to backup the data part, it will show up a big red "FAIL" at the top.
I've had success in restoring and backing up nandroids before with this version of TWRP, but for some reason...it just wouldn't let me go through with the backup now. The only thing that changed between the time when nandroid backups were no problem and now is that I flashed one of the compatible boot animation for the GoldenEye ROM. I doubt it...but could that be the problem?
I also delete previous nandroid backups to make room for the new ones...just trying to give as much information as I can hahaha
Thanks in advance!
I'd try clockwork.

Yeah after trying to find the solution online with no luck, I finally flashed CWM. Thanks anyway though!
