So after I successfully rooted my phone, I did flash the radio and WiFi. Custom ROMs have worked pretty well. But lately, I have noticed (and I am not sure to what degree this was going on before) that my WiFi signal is quite bouncy. This is the case no matter what WiFi access point I go to.
Is it possible that something with my phone got messed up? Is it recommended that I reflash the WiFi? Should I just try a different ROM?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
By "WiFi" do you mean "WiMax?"

I mean whichever radio is responsible for my WiFi... so is the WiFi radio and the 4g radio one in the same? If so, the question still stands... would flashing it again possibly fix fluctuation in signal?
Im still having this problem. Anyone else? In fact, I was at a friend's house and was using his WiFi router for access and it was slow. I told him we probably need to reboot his router but he didn't think so. My speed test with his router was 800Kbps - ~ 1Mbps... and I know I was testing his WiFi... not my 3G.
He then testing from his iPhone 3GS and was getting ~ 7Mbps (about what should be expected)... so clearly the problem was my phone.
Did a clear cache and dalvik and still not better. My radio is still bouncing.
Anyone have any ideas?
???
As far as I know, there is no such radio for WiFi???
WiFi improvements come through software updates from HTC, but I've never seen a flashable update??
You can only flash the evo radio and wimax.
Wifi on the Evo sucks. I have the range issue regardless of what rom I use. My iphone doesn't have an issue.

This must be hit-or-miss. I vaguely remember some others complaining about WiFi (wtf..lol). I get a great connection at my house, I can use WiFi out in the yard, and the only time I've gotten less than 8megs down I was also watching a movie on Netflix and dl'ing a torrent.. and even then I got over 4m/s
my wifi was fine until i flashed to this latest leak.

Nope, did you check you wimax keys? There is an app in the market to check or maybe you have a bad download

Problem with browser loading page fully
For some reason, no matter if I am on WiFi, 3g or 4g, the browser fails to fully load webpages with a LOT of content.... puzzling.
Based on your original comment, I can't really tell if you mean that it doesn't work when you're browsing, or if you mean it's just not grabbing an IP from sprint or what. I'm going to assume that you're experiencing issues with browsing though after your phone is connected to 4G and showing that it has a 4G signal.
Myn botched the adblock feature in his ROM. You'll have to restore the hosts file if you haven't already. The browser will partially load pages or lock up on sites with flash ads because of this. Grab AdFree (it's free) and tap "Revert". That should restore the hosts file. You can then use the program to block ads effectively.

I did the adfree fix last week or something like that when I think everyone was having issues with it. For some reason though 4G will say I have signal and then take forever to load or never completely load at all but if I shut it off 3G works great.
My wifi seems like it just turns off after a little while but says I still have a signal. If I turn off the toggle and turn it back on it works fine again. It's just annoying.
I'm thinking of switching roms but I just don't know which one to go to. I have really liked myn's rom and am not sure what else is good.

Good news is you have your RSA keys, you might want to back them up in case you do end up switching around ROMs and flashing radio updates and such.
There could be several things going on here, so it's hard to give you a good direction to go in. Are you maybe using a custom kernel? Have you updated your WiMax and other radios? Maybe try flashing back to the rooted version of the stock ROM, and grab the latest software/radio updates.
Here's the latest rooted stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=874251
Here's the latest software/radio updates*: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
*Probably don't want to update HBOOT, it's not included in the Combo link, so you're safe grabbing that. Also, some people have said that the PRI/NV 1.90 have been giving them ****ty battery life, 1.77 should be fine if you notice this.
Anyway, my recommendation for now is to just get everything back to scratch. Check and see if the 4G works after that. If it does, maybe it was the ROM or some kind of kernel you were using (if any). If it doesn't work still, your area might just be having 4G issues right now. I don't know where your area is, but if you're on the cusp of 4G deployment, it may only work sometimes. I know here in Minneapolis before deployment was official, it would work in isolated areas. Then all of a sudden, the signal would be there and I wouldn't be able to connect. I would just get an "Obtaining IP address from Sprint" message and it'd stick there. Couple of weeks later, it started working again.

I'll try that thanks.
I updated all of the radios and everything the directions on Myn's RLS5 said to do.
I'm in Nashville and only get 4G in certain areas so it's not a huge deal. It would be cool if it worked correctly though. I just wasn't sure if it was the rom or not.
I haven't changed kernels, I'm just using the one that comes with RLS5 but I do get really ****ty battery life.
Is anyone else having this? I still have 3g connected, but if I look at the phone periodically, the 4g has an X on it (red x, im on honeyglow) it will reconnect if I toggle it, but if it drops it will not reconnect, like from 3g or wifi.
Is this s known issue and is there a fix?
Oh, and Im on the LosTKernal OC to 1.6 (stable) and Starburst 1.6, it did it on 1.7 as well.
Thanks
Which kernels have you previously tried? I tried one that made my 4g stop connecting even after switching back to stock but I did find a fix so give me some details on what you've tried so far....
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I think I have only used ZedoMax, and then this LosT Kernel, or versions of it.
I had midnight ROM, now have been running Starburst. I think another configuration I had dropped signal on data a lot and had trouble switching between WIFI 3g and 4g. But this has helped my LOS issues as best I can tell.
If I can get 4g to work (im in Dallas, lots of 4g) great, if not Ill just try to ignore it.
If you have a fix, that would be great.
Thanks!
Honestly, if I had a choice between this and the screen wake lag, I'd not worry about 4g.
The screen wake lag is rediculous, it takes 3 full seconds to wake up with my class 10 8g card in it.
Well, what I did was Odined Crawrj's odexed with root and Busybox. You would want the deodexed version obviously. Run that in PDA slot. It will keep your data but then you will have to Odin back akernel with CWM like LoSt. It fixed all of the 4g and Wifi not connecting crap I had going on from something I triedthat had borked changes

Have you tried toggling airplane mode, or a reboot?
yea many times its very frustrating, i am currently in CM9 Alpha 3 and it happened this morning while i was omw to work
I haven't met this kind of case.are you sure that you are right?
yea dont take it wrong but im not a noob when it comes to this its just weird, its been happening for a while now in what ever custom rom i flash
So call Sprint tech support and have them try some steps of their own.
Dont mean to be an ass but what do you think they would solve over the phone, a Factory Reset, update my Profile and PRL, Airplane mode, ive tried all of that

I would flash a modem again, as this did fix my problem when I flashed CM9 and lost data and calls. You won't lose nothing by trying, good luck
Maybe the tower is down? Maybe they will refresh the data from their end? Customer care CAN do some nice things in trouble shooting. Use ODIN to go back to a 100% stock tar and see if it works then!

The issue you are experiencing happen over in the Boston area probably about 4 months ago give or take. So don't panic like I did. I had given up back then, unrooted, and took the phone back into the store telling them my wimax stop working only to find out that all of their phones are going thru the same issue. I would check with the sprint store or ask some one in your area if they are experiencing the same issue.
Me too..

I know this is an old thread but I just got the phone (used) and am having the same problem. It's *stock* JB GB27 (rooted or not) and I have not been able to get any data over 4g even if Wimax says its connected, with an IP address, Gateway, DNS address and says it's active on Sprint. And in a strong WIMAX coverage location. Ping says "host unreachable".
As soon as I turn off 4G, 3G takes over and all is good. To the OP, did you ever discover the cause?
Thanks in Advance.

That's kinda how I look at it too but I might take up the challenge to try to resolve it or play around with some custom roms now that I am rooted. Maybe go back to Gingerbread and see what happens. I actually liked Gingerbread's app drawer better.

You can try running a more updated rom, such as cm10.1 or gb27. Stay away from any 4.3 rom though, since 4g isn't supported.:good:
Thanks for the responses, so I found something odd when this happens,
I wrote down the stats the phone gave me about my connection, IP,
Gateway and DNS server. Everything checks out as belonging to sprint,
EXCEPT my IP 6.6.2.142. Well, that IP just happens to belong to the
pool of IPs allocated to the US Department of Defense Network!

Is Sprint/Clear's servers possibly mis-assigning IPs???? This is from 2
totally different Wimax areas but I'm pretty sure that the same IP was
assigned to my phone both times.
I've done some searching and have found some of the dumbest things that make no sense. I have 2 problems. 1 - If the wifi shuts off it will not reconnect to my router. This only happens when the router is on N only (both 2.4 and 5ghz). And 2 - The download over wifi is incredibly poor. I get speedtest results turning back 3mbps down 6mbps up. Why is the download so poor? This is on wifi NOT 4glte. on 4g I see around 13/9 with 3 bars.
I've also tried all the modem firmwares and all were bad except the previous one before the current update. using CSrom
To my knowledge the modem file will have nothing to do with the wifi radio or its firmware.
The connection errors seem to be wpa. Wep or running open and I can connect every time.

Ok well I got the problem solved some how by changing roms. The rom I used moved to graviton so I switched, No problems with that now. Its just the download is terribly slow for wifi. The upload goes higher than the download.
Not to mention I'm not even 15 feet from the router getting 1 bar for wifi.
My speedtest app was botched. I redownloaded it and suddenly 12/5 easily. Not sure if thats the max the GS3 wifi can do but thats where it topped on 2 different GS3. One running stock 4.1.1 and mine running graviton 4.1.2.

My desktop gets 56/5.8 wired. The wireless pcs in the house get 20 - 30 on wifi. My package is 50/5. I'm beginning to think my router and extender both dislike the GS3. My old ass LG optimus was able to get 20down and its ancient.
Ok so it turns out its because my router/extender are dual band? Is there anything I can do besides buy another router? The ones I have are fairly good and I don't want to replace them.
For the last month or so wifi hasn't been working well on my phone. I can connect to all of my hotspots and get decent indicated signal strength, but games and streaming are constantly losing connection. This is on 3 different networks and all 3 work fine on my tablet, so the problem has to be the phone. And I've done a factory reset so it doesn't seem to be a software issue.
So.. is there anything physical/mechanical I can try? Or something else I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

Is your firmware up to date, or at least on par with the ROM you are using?
Yes, I'm using SkyDragon 1.0 and the first option kernel that came with it. I just upgraded to it a couple days ago from OEM 4.4.2 and I was having the same issues.
Is there a different kernel I could/should try? Thanks!
