We need a battery cover with a kickstand built in - Vibrant Accessories

The other day I was playing with my father in laws evo 4g and I realized something. How hard can it be to petition these case companies to make a battery cover with a built in kickstand like the evo 4g has. I dont care about the added bulk as long as it makes it easier for me to watch movies. The body glove cases dont count because they are either too obtrusive as far as screen access or dont offer enough protection. I repeat, I am talking about a battery cover, not a case. So lets hear what your ideas are, if we get enough responses maybe we can organize a campaign to have it made with Quirky or some other manufacturer.

While this would be nice we need to jump the first hurdle and that would be getting an extra battery cover made. I think this could be a real business opportunity with all these phones and gorilla glass cases will be less and less appealing and users will go more and more for customized battery covers. In our case the battery cover is the entire back so we can change the entire phone with one item.

So what we need is someone who is able to build a prototype that can be a starting point for modifications. So do we have any takers. I am good with electronics but I dont have any practical knowledge as far as machining goes. How awesome would it be to have a soft touch plastic or aluminum battery cover with a kickstand.

same here i have tried to build a few prototypes before and ended up breaking them in half. The only thing is this battery case would have to add some thickness due to the fact that the battery case is so thin.
Are you thinking more like the Evos kick stand or body gloves? If i recall correctly the kickstand is build into the phone for the evo and the case only goes around that rather than as a part of the battery cover itself.

More like evo's but it could be a part of the cover instead of some sort of snap on accessory, the added thickness wouldnt bother me, it would also address one of the vibrants main problems, its weight. I would love to have a cover that made the phone feel more substantial.

im in dental school and have access to materials that we use to make custom bleaching trays and custom impression trays. If i had the free time, i would try to make a custom battery cover with built in kick stand. Im sure with some time (and a little money) I could make something.
Problem is, being in dental school, I have 0 free time. anyway, if someone wants to try to make one, my suggestion would be to look up some dental materials used to make custom trays and play around with them yourself. If anyone is interested going this route, ill get the name of the material im talking about

While it may be a little out of reach to force Samsung to provide a novelty item such as a Kickstand there are a few ideas in this thread that are free, functional and completely un-invasive as far as glue, tape, other means of mounting etc... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=776328

Just found this:
http://www.androidguys.com/2010/09/06/review-icarpus-portable-device-stand-video/#more-18214
For $13 it's not a bad deal and the video review uses a Vibrant as a test phone
Might grab one soon, if I do I'll post my thoughts too

I would love a kickstand replacement cover. Hell Id love just a replacement cover. I start to drool when I think of one with a nice tacky rubber back. Like a gecko pad or ribbed rubber fins that would make the thing far less likely to slip out of you hand. This thing is so slick that I was typing a text and my wife sneezed across the room and the SOB flew right out of my hands.

How about this one. I already brought this one, a lot better than previously posted on this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752317&page=3

I've been experimenting with bull dog clips by cutting them in half so they lay flat against the back of the phone what I got so far looks pretty good but I wanna put it to the test for a little while to see how it does but so far so good I'll post pics when I get off work

im gonna order this on monday. so cheap why not get two. http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/cellphone/bb12/

Dude, that was awesome! I'm going out to get the masking tape now.

Got the case today, decided to take some first-hand pictures. Unfortunately I have to wait until Friday until it can wrap around a phone. But, I figured I would post some photos and first impressions.
I must say that it feels amazing in your hand. The material is soft, but not too soft. Build quality of the case appears to be very nice. There are a few spots where it appears there are rough edges, but once on a phone they would not be noticeable.
The case in it's package
Here you can see the felt material on the inside of the case
Back of case
Bottom
Compared to my Hero w/ a cheapo hard/rubberized case
So there is a soft felt-like material in there....hmm... will definitely need to look into that. If you drop your phone, how well do you think the case would handle it?
I love hard shell outside/rubber interior cases because they can take a beating (wife's Speck iPhone case)

If it's anything like my Hero's case, it will do great. The case is taking a nice beating but the phone is mint.
i used the simple silicone skin from sprint with my hero and it was great. it definitely attracted lint and was hard to take out of the pocket, but i dropped the phone on concrete numerous times and it just bounced with absolutely no damage to the phone, even when dropped screen-down. i'm worried the seidio case would be less shock absorbent as it's not really rubber

My Hero's case has held up really well. I dropped my phone on my garage floor and it slid about 2 feet. No damage to the phone.
its alot like the best buy one made by Seidio seen in this thread http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=207109
Now, all you need is the phone! lol
Seidio Innocase looks hot.
I ordered my Seid case but I think I might have screwed myself. I'll most likely order the big battery when it is released and I assume I'll need a different case. Does Seidio usually mane an Innocase for the larger battery?
Best Buy carries the same case but under a Best Buy house brand name. The Seidio name is on the box though. On the back of the case it says "Pt" instead of Seidio. Just got it today. They have it in gun metal, black, and purple. $29.99. It's an awesome case. Perfect fit.

Push lightly on the back of the lower half where the two halves come together, then pull the top part off. I had trouble at first, but it came off after I did that.

I actually thought it was a little loose, too. The case is clipped on snug, but it feels a bit wobbly in certain areas. Definitely not something that takes away from the quality of the case, but I wish it were a bit more snug.

[Q] New leather case from Samsung

Has anyone seen the new leather case from Samsung...
and if anyone has it care to share about your experience?
ET-I897PCFBSHC is the product number on samsung website.
Oh wow... that looks nice. It looks like it might be too thick though....
you think it will be too thick?
hhmmm... i think it will be the same thickness as the other snap ons from samsung.
It looks like might be thinner than the previous snap on case which most owners hate.
I'm going to buy it... I need a case anyways.
Ill post a review once i get it in.
I'm considering trying one out too.
Also, stating that it is likely about as thick as other snap-on cases is about as meaningful to me as saying a hippo doesn't weigh quite as much as an elephant. I went with a TPU case originally because all snap-on cases are just too thick, however this leather one looks too nice to pass up.
I'm still somewhat hesitant though because it looks very conducive to gathering dirt and dust and being detrimental to the phone like the Body Glove, but even worse with that extra hole in the back (which I really wish wasn't there; the less branding I have to see on the phone, the better).

Haha again with the Body Glove negativity! The Body Glove case doesn't scratch the phone and it is in no way detrimental. Not to mention it is easy to grip because of the textured backing. The Samsung leather case looks sharp, though leather down here in the Texas elements wouldn't do so well :/

thanks for the info.

Case hasn't come in yet, sixk?
Purchased. I have an invisibleSHIELD cover on the entire body and hate it. I love it for the screen but the rest of the phone looks terrible with it.
Thanks for the 15% off code.
Sorry it came in but I was out of town for work with out my laptop.
Now for a review... sorry no pics.
Its mostly plastic and the its not that big but it does add alot of bulk.
The front part has little ripple patterns that might irritate your skin.
But the screen wont be impacted if dropped glass down.
I had my glass replaced 3 weeks ago after dropping it from around 3 feet.
ok back side
it looks nice... but if you look closely it looks cheap and leather doesnt feel like leather.
there are little indents in the leather
the metal looking parts are also plastic... so feels cheap....
it snaps on and fits nicely and hard to get off....
I havent been able to take it apart so I dont know about it being a dusty inside but it was layered with some fabric to stop it from scratching the back side.
...
hahaha while i was typing this i took it apart. no dust.
so thats pretty much it
final say is that if you want a good case that looks and performs like it should this is a good product if you look at it quickly or from afar haha.
havent really dropped it but im sure with the padding and being a light plastic it will take the impact for the phone.
good product but looks cheap and is alittle pricy.
I will try to upload photos but someone stole my D90 while I was on my business trip. >=/
I'm going to try this one out but the Otterbox case doesn't look terrible (if you don't mind the bulkiness).
Update:
I have been using this case for a few days now and it isn't so bad but it isn't great by any means. It fits securely and isn't much bulkier (if at all) than other hard cases on the market ATM. I do not really care for the plastic that tries to look like metal around the camera, speaker and galaxy S logo. It definitely helps with being able to grip the device.
OK... I got to drop the phone multiple times haha...
the case split opened and the back part of the case always stuck but the front part of the case went flying.
The case didnt stop it from being damaged...
My LCD is now all green.... yeay... and no I did not drop it on purpose... well after it turned green I did try it out couple more times on purpose.
But anyhow heads up... it doesn't protect the phone as I thought it might have. ^^
GL with the case though Gardener.
That sucks about your phone. Thanks for giving us a heads-up though.
one of my friend works at samsung parts department so they will be helping me out ^^
she said something about flashing my firmware... im not sure if she meant the one we just got from OTA/Kies mini or something only samsung employees have...
will give a heads up on that too.

The case is secure and works, but it definitely isn't pretty. As I cut on this case the plastic began to bubble up. Any thoughts on ways to keep that at a minimum? I think I might try to use water in between cuts, design a cut pattern, and use a different size cutting tool.
LMAO....Thats ths sh*tiest thing I have seen in a while. Whats the point??
Well, as a case it works. It's protective. And you cannot purchase extended battery cases as of yet.
Thanks for pointing out the obvious in a gentle and subtle fashion. <3
I wanna get myself a Dremel and practice on a case or two. What speed did you use?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Props for trying to fab something up. I would try to keep the rotation speed down as low as possible. That should help with the bubbling. I don't know that water would help much, but you could try it.
I would sand the edges down and get everything smooth and even, then hit it with some spray paint. Krylon Fusion is pretty durable. Another idea. Plasti Dip. It would give a rubbery and anti slip texture, really durable, and comes in different colors. I would tape off the inside of the case then remove the tape after the Plasti Dip application. That would keep it from messing up the way the phone fits.
Whats the point??

It looks like someone with an extended battery wants added protection for the phone. The case added a raised lip, so the screen is now protected when layed face down. The edges of the phone are protected, and the area surrounding the camera and leds are as well. The only part that isn't protected is the battery door, which costs a lot less to replace than other components on the phone.
Not bad for first attempt. Like previously stated, try a lower speed to reduce heat...might help with bubbling and increase accuracy.
Oh, and if you wanted, you could even hit the battery door with Plasti Dip so it would match the case. You can peel Plasti Dip off, so it wouldn't be permanent either. If it got scratched up, just peel it off, and put a new coat on.
I don't have an extended battery, but I want one now just so I could take this project on. haha
Haha.. I love the word Frankencase....

Mask it with masking tape, and maybe try cutting in intervals. By that I mean cut one part/side a bit and then move to another part/side and then back and forth rinsing and repeating as neccesary to help prevent heat build up.

It's the first time I've ever used a dremel, so I used different speeds. The top end speeds cut through like butter, but they bubbled.
Another thing with the dremel if you don't have the handheld wand kit is to mount the dremel and move the case. You will get greater control with your cuts.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
There isn't much point to keeping the back half of the 2-piece case, though, since the only thing that really needs protecting (the camera) isn't covered, and the from half fits fine without it when the extended battery is in.
You need to use a Dremel routing table.. It cost like 30 bucks but will give you a mount for the Dremel, and fence to line up you case with. I use this all the time for modifications for everything. But not bad for your first stab. I noticed that if you go to fast with these plastics that the blade tends to pull the plastic towards where you don't want to cut. So if you try again just go slow.
Nice try, but the Dremel may have been overkill and not best suited for this job. Is that case hard plastic or silicone? Seems some scissors would have don't a cleaner job if it's silicone.
Just dress it up with some duck tape now.. Just kidding, could not resist.
I found that a utility knife and a straight edge will do the job too. Multiple passes will make nice clean edges.
Oh man I think I might just use my dremmel to carve my name right into the phone and call it a day! LoL!

Clip Case by Pryo Skins!!! AWESOME!!!

So I was given the opportunity to test out 2 cases by Pyro Skins. This is one of them and it is my favorite for sue. It's made of high quality materials. It fits the tab perfectly and the clips hold the tab very firmly without even coming close to marking up the tab. It doesn't add too much bulk to the already thin tab. It doesn't cover any of the hardware buttons at all. It feels great to carry around and it looks really classy. I would definitely recommend this case to anyone! Wow, that case does look amazing, probably the best one so far.
And this is why it sucks to be an early adopter of electronics, when the first come out there are no good cases for it. Then you buy one or two and not happy with it, a few months go by and then new and better cases flood the market.
Used to happen with me all the time with how often I switched Blackberry's. I have Ghost Armor on my GT so I will stick with that until more cases are out.
But I may have to buy this one for now, it looks sick.
Update: Said screw it and bought it, for how good it looks and the price I would have hated myself for waiting and then it being back-ordered.

Seems tough to get the two bottom hooks out to angle it. I'm scared it'll wear the edges out over time due to it. What a shame. Close to perfection...
PS - Is it just me or do the side flaps block a bit of the speakers?!

It will not go that shallow. There is a friction/spring action type thing that prevents it. If you were to force it down (which makes it feel like its going to snap) it will pop back up. Additionally, if forced down so the bottom of the tab touches the lip, the tab would be flat and not angled.
If I'm understanding what you are saying, there is no way to do it.
I ordered this case on Saturday and my wife said it was delivered today already...
Now that was fast

Looks like a Good Case for Samsung S8/S8+ is here

What can you say about this case guys?

I had bought the 4-pack of rings that attach with glue for my current device. Gave one to a friend as well and they love it. When you're one-handing it on the subway, these things are invaluable (the rings, that is). I like that they make a case with them already integrated. I get worried sometimes that the glue will come off and the device will drop out of my hands.
Now, to see if they make them in different colors. This is the URL where I found it:
https://www.amazon.com/SPARIN-Protective-Rotating-kickstand-Samsung/dp/B06XHFY9BZ/ref=sr_1_1
Same company claims to make a waterproof case with a kickstand. I keep wondering why companies insist on making 'waterproof' cases for a device that had an unboxing underwater WITH sharks?
Hey look, it's waterproof in this case
Yes, well, without it as well.

Good find bro. i like that one with kickstand but i prefer the one with ring grip.
I use a wrist strap and grab it with my hand and the phone balances quite nicely. I liked it from when element case made cases for the S5.
Not that I'm turning it down, it is definitely a nice find and maybe I'll use this case plus the strap because I haven't had a phone this big.

I have a question...
Is the ring integrated INTO the case or is it part of the hard shell part and sits underneath the other part? How is the ring the part of the case is my question. I'm really interested in this and am not sure if I should just order another 4-pack of the rings themselves because then I can use a ring with this:
https://www.amazon.com/Galaxy-Plus-Chinook-Orchid-Purple/dp/B06XY9YMF2/ref=pd_ybh_a_11
And get the best of what I want and lose the wallet as well.

I had a flat ring that glued to the back of my case which can magnetically attach to this small piece stuck on my dash. It was handy but NOT good when it came to wireless charging. Can you wireless charge with these cases are on? My glued on ring got really, really hot even though I made a slice in it to try and stop the heat (after reading many posts). It was this Caseco device.
I had this on an iPhone and it worked well. The case you show would be better because it sits flat.
Doesn't support wireless charging:
Will this case allow wireless charging?
From Amazon customer questions:
Answer: Dear customer,
Thanks for your attention for our SPARIN Galaxy S8+ Case.
No, this case won’t allow wireless charging. When charging, the case should be removed from your phone. Hope this is helpful for you.
Any question, please feel free to contact us. We will be here to serve you.
