[Q] Installed apps disappear from Market/Download - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have official froyo 2.2 on my desire and this is my problem:
Sometimes after successfully downloaded and installed an app, if i open again the market, the app is not listed in the downloaded apps. If i reboot the phone, the app is showed, but sometimes other apps are missing..
The apps are installed, but someone is not listed in the market/download section..Anyone have the same issue?
Please help!
(Sorry for my english )

I have the exact same issue. Unfortunately not sure what to do about it, though

Any solution? Is a bug?
Any solution?
Is an android 2.2 bug???

Hello??
Sent from my HTC Desire

Hi!
Try opening up the 'Downloads' tab in the Android Market, click Menu > Notifications and then re-select 'Notify when items are updated' hit OK and check if they come back.

I have this problem aswel, but it only seems to be apps that have be transfered to the sd card, they randomly disapear from my downloads list but are installed on my phone when i search for them. I think its only apps that you transfer over to the sd card.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

I noticed this earlier today, Downloads only show two apps that I had recently installed (not even the two latest ones!). However, I've just had a look now and they're all there, haven't restarted the phone or done anything. Sounds like a bug with A2SD+ and market

'Notify when items are updated' is just to show a notification when there is an update for an app..isn't it? I have disabled that option..I dont want other background process to check if there are updates..

Having the exact same issue on Evo 2.2 stock. I usually go clear data on market then they come back. Still shouldn't have to do this... Looks and Sounds like a bug to me!

Only happens on every 2.2 ROM I've tried to date when the app is stored on the SD card. Not with all apps, just some.
Scratch that. PowerTutor is one exception to the above for me where it's not picked up by the market no matter where it's installed on 2.2.

All my apps do it... Whether they are on sd or not. Every time I update an app, and come back into my downloads later the app is not listed. So this is a 2.2 bug?

I have the same problem - seems to occur only when I reboot the phone as far as I can see.

[Q] Can't update downloaded apps

hi to all.
I noticed a problem yesterday, i can't update my apps. It says "update" and when i press on it, it downloads, and after 1second "installing" it says : Couldn't install on USB storage or SD card :S. And after that the same app doesn't have "update" status - it says "free" although i have that app on my Desire. And if i download again - it says the same, couldn't install. But i CAN install other apps, that i don't have on my phone. Can somebody help me. i'm running stock 2.2 - not rooted.
Try "Clear Data" and Cache for the market. That may work

doesn't help either
Then it is probable Google related in regard to your region. Few weeks ago half of my apps were missing from my apps list so I had to use market enabler to update my apps. This week it started working normal as usual. Wait for a few days, maybe it comes to its senses.

i thought the same
I had exactly the same problem last night and this morning, I wiped all caches including the Dalvik.
It now seems to be working! Rooted with CM7

so... i found some solution. ex: Google googles can't update. If i move it to internal and update it's ok. I moved it again on sd and the new version (1.5.2) again doesn't update. i must again move it to internal. it's stupid to do this all the time. I formated the sd card - again the same. what can be the cause? and the cure ? tnx
edit|
found solution online if someone need it :
The solution? Go and delete smdl2tmp1.asec yourself. From what I can tell, it could reside in 2 locations:
/sdcard/.android_secure – this is an invisible folder on your SD card, which you can access with any file manager, like ASTRO
/mnt/secure/asec/ – access to this folder requires root and a program like Root Explore
Ive had that issue in the past and deleting the file helped the first time. HOWEVER, I've encountered this problem again recently, and this fix no longer works. Anyone has another fix?
Froyo, no root, stock rom.

Android market download problems solved :)

This was a big problem for me, and I wasted many many hours trying to solve the problem of the android market, that didn't donwload, update or install anytnhig.
But i found the solution in a forum and my market is working fine now
Epsilonbass from droid forums.net:
"Connect your phone to your computer, set in usb mass storage mode. Look for a hidden folder called ".android_secure" and then delete the file "smdl2tmp1.asec". Unmount and you should be good to go."
And all is working
I don't have smdl2tmp1.asec in that folder
Are you referring to the problem of random things being considered "not compatible" for your phone?
Yeah if you are talking new market (version 3.x) the problems go deeper than that.
Custom dpi (lcd density) causes the incompatible problem.
I went back to market 2.3.6

You don't understand how much I have tested to try to find the reason behind it. I was going to test that tomorrow morning. It's always the last thing.
Is there a way to force the app to download regardless of screen density? My Desire is showing more and more apps as incompatible because I use a density of 200 instead of 240... don't really feel like changing back just for an app install or two.
i solved this problem by clearing data , cache , uninstalling update of Market and rebooting my phone
Thankfully I have a backup of 2.3.6, which appears to be the last version that is even remotely usable.
I regularly have to restore 2.3.6 in order to update an app. Of course after a while the Market updates itself to the latest 3.x version (thanks for that). Usually things work for a while after this update, but eventually there will be an app update that either can't be installed (no install option) or that is flagged as not being available in my country (even though it's already installed. So I have to restore 2.3.6 again and the cycle continues...
I use the default LCD density and clearing the Market cache and data doesn't help.
Bottom line, Market 3.x is just plain buggy.
Google is really messing up with this.

If you use titanium backup you can freeze "market updater" to put an end to that.

Does that just prevent the Market from being updated or does it also stop apps from being updated? I'm assuming it's only the Market. Anyway I'll try it and see what happens, thanks.

No such file, either with computer, or terminal app, or rooted explorer.
But I've finally managed to get rid of this bug, deleting Market data with Titanium Backup, as I could only delete cache in Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All Applications > Android Market (which was not enough).
My friend was getting "purchase canceled" error for free apps on Archos honeycomb tablet.
Market version was 1.x but looked like no market I have ever seen. We installed the 3.1.5 from my thunderbolt over his tablet version, and now he can download again.
With the new market not able to update or download new applications.
Wiping market data only tempararily allows downloads.
Marker 2.3.6 is only working.
To prevent auto update, delet or rename marketupdater.apk
It solved my problem.
But, why can't we use the new version?

[Q] [q] facebook app

My Facebook app went funny last night, it wouldn't show my friends pictures and wouldn't come out of refresh. So I logged out, turned off my wireless connection, rebooted my phone, turned on the wireless and tried to log back in. I was met with this error:

It is still the same after uninstalling and re-installing the app.

That sounds as though your phone isn't actually reaching the facebook page but is being redirected somewhere else. Are you sure it's not something to do with your wifi network? Can you get to facebook OK from a laptop?
I'd expect this sort of thing if you were connected to a hotspot without having logged into the hotspot from the phone.

But the funny part is, it only affected HTC Desire.
My GF with Samsung Galaxy S, and all others that I know, dont have problems...
Found this problem on other forums too, all Desire's
And one have tried a factory reset.
Facebook was unreachable a couple of days ago. But I got a message saying that they are doing maintenance. When it came back up, all it had me do is log back in. Everything is fine until now.
I wonder if your issues has something to do with the Facebook integrated on Sense. You guys using Sense roms by any chance?

Yes, it is a Sense Rom I'm using..
I have just tried to freeze Facebook for HTC Sense via Titanium Backup, still same problem with "Facebook app"
same problem from same day... i tried few older version of fb app but none works. HTC Desire InsertCoin rom
Same here since a couple of days. It seems to be a problem on FB side, but in some way related to the software of the phone. I own a Desire with RcmixS Rom Gingerbread. I flashed it with an ICS Rom and it worked after that. Come back to Gingerbread after factory wipe and problem is there again.

Trying logically to understand why this happens only on Desire with gingerbread (since on my with ICS it was working) and looking at the error I thought it could be a problem of certificates that are not up to date, in this case may be only on a specific android distribution like the one we have on Desire... (app developer are maybe forgetting our loved phone since it's getting older) so I tried to understand how to update this certificates and I've finally found that there are some files where they are stored inside a system directory.
Here attached you can download a zip with some certificates I found. To install them you have to put the file on the SD, go into recovery mode and then simply choose to install a zip from SD card. Reboot... My FB started working again! I had tried everything before this without success... so maybe this will work for you too.
Let me know! :fingers-crossed:

I BET it's because facebook.com have automatic activated some new security settings, https, and (dont know the english word for it) safe login, where you will receive an sms the first time you log on from a new unit...
I downloaded your zip file, extracted cacerts.bks, cwcerts.zip & otacerts.zip and copied them to my system/etc/security folder, quick restart, and it's WORKING :good:
And I was receiving an sms so that i could log on.
Funny part is, that those certificates looks older than the ones I allready got, but they are a little bit bigger.
But it's working... thank you

I've been having the same problem since Monday, only I don't have a Desire but a Wildfire S. I don't seem to have the system folder on the SD-card nor can I find anywhere else to put the files (I tried putting them in the .android_secure-folder just to try anything and restart but no progress...). Yes, having LeeDroid you should already have a cooked recovery... just power off the phone, keep pressed vol - and power... choose recovery with vol buttons and enter with power button. You should be now on you recovery (probably clockworkmod). Choose install zip from SD and select certs.zip you can find on my previous post and that you have to put on your SD. At the end reboot. You should now be able to use FB.
installed the certs and Facebook is now working. :good:

No låvisa, the folder is on the internal memory, but you can't write on it if you are not rooted. You can probably apply the file from the recovery also without root, but you need a cooked recovery. To permanently install the clockworkmod recovery, that is not the stock one and that have more option like the one to install zip, again you would need to be root. Instead I think you can (I've never do it this way, sorry...) install the clockworkmod recovery temporary without root from your stock recovery, just the time to flash my zip.
Here you can find all the available way to install the clockworkmod, look at the update.zip method:

Well... Clear up some memory and try again...
You can use "Clean Master" for that.
Another option...
There is another option, though it may be frowned upon by some here.
There is an app called lucky patcher, I found it while trying to find a solution to this problem some time back (300mb of space on device, not SD card and I still couldn't install a 1mb app). You won't find it in the play store though so you will need to google it, that has a fix for that issue. Under the app's settings there's a troubleshooting option. In that menu there is an option to fix the no space bug (Just read, under each option it has a description). It's worked for me on sense 4 roms as well as sense 5 roms. This is the only reason I keep this app lying around.
Hope this works for you and I don't run into any trouble for suggesting this...

Stop LG/Tmobile system update?

I am running skydragon rom and unfortunately my phone downloaded an LG system update. I did not install it, but i do want to delete it and remove the reminder... Plus it's stopping me from installing some of the LG apps that have been removed...
How can this be accomplished. Thanks.
Wow.. Anybody.
I'm not sure on the location of the update, but for me, I just pulled down the notification panel, long pressed the Update notification, clicked on App Info, then unchecked notifications, clicked ok to confirm, then checked it back on.
That removed the persistent notification for the T-Mobile system update, hasn't shown up since in about 3 days time.
I tried that... It worked for a few hours then it came back.
You can always leave it unchecked, but I'm not sure what other apps use Play Services for their updates or other.
That's my worry. I think a lot of other apps use play services.

Apparently many people have said that you can disable the updates by getting into the hidden menu by typing this in the dialer: 3845#*851#
Click on WLAN Test
Go to OTA
Disable
Unfortunately this didn't work for me. I hope it works for you. I accidentally downloaded the LG update as well, but for some reason the update notification is still there. super annoying!

If your rooted, you can use a root explorer and delete the update.zip file in the /cache folder. That will take care of any auto update when you reboot your phone.
Since I'm running stock, I also froze the following apps with Titanium Backup:
App Updates 4.20.100
ConfigUpdater 4.4.2-940549
LGSetupWizard 4.3.020
Update Center 4.20.100
I get a notice once in a while when I go to wifi, but I noticed that the update is no longer downloaded to the /cache folder after freezing the apps above.
