[Q] HELP..!! Can't get past the white HTC screen - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My first post and I hope i'm in right section. I have just tried to root my htc desire and install 2 roms.
The rooting of phone worked fine [I think]. Came up with super user permissions so guess I got that part right. Now the problem.
I then went to upgrade it from 2.1 to 2.2 using radio zip file and defrost zip file through ROM manager but now can't get any further.
My htc is now stuck on the white htc screen when I switch it on and when I try to do the recovery by holding down the back button while pressing the power button I don't get any joy.
HELP!!! How can I overcome this? Your help would be very appreciated

go to recovery & wipe cache etc then reload the rom

On MyTouch Slide (not sure if is the same on every phone)
You first Hold Down Volume button and don't let go while then press Power button, with volume buttons and power to select Recovery.
And that's how I go to recovery... then proceed with whatever you must/want to do..

Rom Manager, I don't feel like using it to flash a Rom, I'd rather follow instruction for the normal way.

Tried that but it just goes back to white HTC screen - just can't get recovery mode to do anything! - someone told me to try the trackball instead of power button when selecting recovery and all is fine

Optical Trackball not working in recovery and stuck in the HTC boot logo

I don't know what to do because my device is currently not booting. The device is stuck at the HTC logo for a very long time (both when booting normaly or going in to revovery). The device finaly is finished booting in like 10 min. , but when it is finnished booting the touch on the screen doesn't work, it keeps a black background and it says no service. In revovery on the otherhand the optical trackball doesn't work anymore, the hardware button does tho because the first option "Reboot system now" does work.
What should I Do???

Have you tried using the volume up / down buttons for moving around the menus and power button for select in recovery?

The volume up/down buttons dont work in recovery
Now its just stuck in a bootloop .
And there is no way of wiping the device, because the trackball isn't working.
hep would be greatly appreciated
The first thing I would try is to remove the SD card and see if your phone boots.
If that doesn't work. Have you tried putting fake flash on your SD and booting into recovery on that to test your trackpad?
Why has it started playing up in the first place? Did you have a bad flash? A wee bit of the history of your device might help to find out what's going on.

the trackball isn't working in the fakeflash. The whole problem didn't happen after a bad flash, but it just went in a bootloop when i tried to put it on this morning. I was running Defrost 1.4
You don't need trackball in the fakeflash. You navigate there using volume up and down. It should work. Try .
How about resetting it by doing the following.
Switch it off, or remove battery > Hold volume down and power button > wait a few seconds > use volume to go to clear storage > power button to select. This doesn't involve going into recovery so your buttons might work there.
Can't you get into the bootloader mode with vol. down + power and wipe it there?
Edit: Few secs too late heh

You need the trackpad to select the option after choosing it with volume up/down.

No, it says clear...... and then it just restarts the bootloop
The fake-flash worked!!!!!!!
I deleted everthing there but now, when I boot up the device it boot up straight into fastboot
You could try now using an ruu to flash. Or try getting into recovery and see if you can use the buttons now.
I'll try a ruu, but the recovery still wont work

The Ruu doesn't boot past the quietly brilliant signiture.
Now the official RUU is doing a bootloop...

[Q] Need Help for Upgrading my Defy

Hello guys,
I need help for upgrading my Defy to the last blur-less rom in 2.2.1.
What I did :
I had the motorola 2.1 stock rom.
I used superonclick to root my defy.
I had a custom recovery installed maybe the one with superoneclick.
I used Rdslite 4.9 with this rom : 3.4.2.-155-2 here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978792
I flashed my device, it restarded, it booted with the "M" of motorola and the "android" logo and that's it, it doesn't go further.
I tried after that to flash differents .sbf of differents versions but some bricked my phone. I reflashed to the 3.4.2-155-2.
Now I still have the booting sequence until "android" logo. I can boot in "flash mode" 9.10 and I can boot in recovery but only to the trinagle, when I click on the bottom right of the screen it doesn't do nothing. edit : In fact I found an other post that says that we can boot in recovery by pressing up volume and down volume button at the same time.
What can I try now ?
Thanks for your help
edit : It's ok now, I could wipe my date and now it works fine. A lot of stress but it's ok now.
OK I've just recently upgraded my 2.1 to the UK 2.2.
When you go into recovery & you see the android logo the bottom right hand of the screen only works in 2.1 I believe so for 2.2 you need to press the volume up & volume down buttons both at the same time. This will take you to the recovery screen & you then use the volume button to choose the action eg; reboot, clear data etc & then press the power button once to confirm that action.
Hope that helps

[Q] Help. Volume keys not working

Hello.
My Htc myTouch 3G Slide volume keys aren't working... So, I can't reboot the phone in Recovery Mode..
I just wanted to upgrade my phone, but with this problem, I can't do that.
Can anyone help me?
Is there a reason you don't want to get a replacement phone from t-mo?
JTB
Well, i bought this phone through ebay...
I'm Portuguese...
OK. Is the phone rooted already or not?
JTB
Yes.. And it has CyanogenMod 7.0.0 RC1 rom.
Then you can just reboot directly into recovery from the power menu. Boot the phone as normal, once everything is loaded hold power until you get the menu, select reboot, then select recovery.
Also, there is an adb command to do the same thing:
Code:
adb reboot recovery

Now i only get a phone and a triangle with an exclamation point. what should I do?
hit power and see where that gets you. Do you have custom MTD partitions on this phone?
Power button does nothing..
I think I don't..
it's power + the volume up key, i guess. Sounds like you have the stock recovery on your phone.
Pull the battery and restart the phone. Then load rom manager application (should be on your phone as I believe it is part of all CM roms). Select the option to flash clockworkmod recovery and then hit the reboot into recovery option.
JTB
I get the same image with the phone and the exclamation point. =S
I'm out of ideas. Sorry!
JTB
Do you know any website where I can buy the volume keys??
Did you flash clockwork mod through rom manager and reboot recovery through rom manager

If all that fails last resort would be to s off and manually flash a permanent recovery.

What do you mean with "permanet recovery"?
You can use the froyo update from htc, you do it from your pc so you don't need your volume keys.

BE CAREFUL! If you do this you may have trouble getting root and you will never be able to get S-OFF.
JTB
Well, I am a litlle noob on this world.
I really don't know what to do...
I just want to update my phone to CM7 nightly - build 36...
P.S: My phone has another problem... the earpiece speaker does not work too. Is this a software problem or not?
not sure, but it sounds more like hardware.

[Q] HELP: My rooted G2 vision wont go to recovery, and it has long boot process

My G2 is rooted and It wont allow to access my recovery image.
Also: the phone takes awhile to boot up, I wiped and changed the rom already still the same results.
And it doesn't show any boot animations. I'm think this could be a hardware problem. Am I right?
Which recovery are you using? If you have 5.x its still very buggy and fails to boot to recovery a lot of the time. Downgrade back to 3.0.2.4, or use 4ext recovery.
On every boot? Cause the first boot is meant to take quite a while.
Please define how long exactly its taking, cause a minute or so is not unusual.
Boot animations would normally be a rom issue I think.
-Nipqer
If you are having trouble getting to recovery, you can 1) remove and re-insert the battery 2) hold down the volume down key, then press the power button on top of your phone 3) Let your phone boot to a white screen with colorful text 4) Use your volume up and down keys to highlight the recovery option 5) press the power button to select recovery.
Now that you are in recovery, you can either restore a nandoid back up you made previously, or flash another rom (you might be best off flashing a rom that is not Sense 3 or 3.5 unless you are sure you either have an HTC Desire Z (not a G2 phone) or you know that you have upgraded your G2 HBOOT to a Desire Z HBOOT).
Hope this helps you!

Every reboot it doesn't show the boot animations. and it also doesn't show the recovery screen at all. It's a display problem for sure I think.
Also the phone wont show the home screen until I tap the power button for like 2 minutes. (The LEDS pop up on the buttons, but the screen wont turn on)
I also changed the battery still no bueno.

I wish it did mate. I've tried all those solutions unfortunately. Thanks anyways.
Also I am currently running the latest CM7.
Try starting up rom manager. It had an option to reboot into recovery. It might work.
Further check if there is a file called PC10IMG.zip in the root of your sdcard. Delete it when it's present.

Hi!
I have a similar problem here!
I sent my Desire Z in for repair (display was not working), they replaced the main board and shipped it back with the stock Gingerbread ROM.
I downgraded to the stock Froyo ROM and rooted it again (including S-OFF, flashing HBOOT, CWM recovery etc.)
I wanted to restore a backup (done before sending it in) using CWM, but when I select the "backup/restore" menu item all I get is a black screen with the CWM logo in the middle. When I press the power button it goes back to CWM's main menu.
It's the same with version 5.0 and 3.0.
I was able to restore the backup from the ROM Manager, but I don't want to install any other ROM right now because if something goes wrong, I won't be able to restore.
Is there something I can do?
Thanks!
---------- Post added at 02:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:44 AM ----------
Well, I feel like a moron.
The power button is not to select menu items in CWM. When I press the trackpad instead of Power all is fine
Should I install CWM 5 again or keep 3? What do you recommend?
From all I've read CWM is still buggy. I'd use 4EXT Recovery instead. It has fantastic support and contains all the options in CWM and more. Link is in my signature.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Im also facing the same problem before this. Im unable to go into recovery by manual that mean by using vol down + power. Just boot normally & using the rom manager to boot into recovery. Problem solve.

[Q] Stuck on HTC Logo after JB update

I've recently got the JB update so I installed it, or atleast tried. Because when I try to turn on my phone again it gets stuck on the HTC logo (White screen).
I think somehow my battery went down during the installation and now I can't access my phone anymore.
It's a clean phone, no costum ROM and I haven't rooted it in any way.
Is there a way to fix my problem? (Preferably withour rooting it.)
I tried holding the power and volume down buttons and then selecting recovery but that doesn't work as I just end up getting stuck on the black screen with the Red triangle.

Try going into HBOOT
Hold down Power button & volume down buttons together when the phone is switched off. This will take you into HBOOT.
Select Recovery using the volume down button and press power to select it.
Hopefully it is able to recover and re-flash the firmware.

Doh missed that bit Sorry to be of little help. Hopefully someone else can proffer a solution.
if it's an unrooted phone, HTC have been very good at fixing phones bricked during OTA in my experience (2 day turnaround)
When you see the phone with the red triangle before you want to enter the recovery press vol - and the power button.....or at least the vol - button. Can't recreate it as i am on a custom recovery. You will bypass the red triangle and will enter the recovery. Maybe a cache wipe wil do, or a factory reset !

I've tried the factory reset be just like the normal boot it gets stuck on the HTC logo.
Clearing the cache might work but doesn't your phone needs to be rooted for that?

I cant recall if wiping cache is an option in the stock recovery !?
One can erase cache using 'fastboot erase cache' after getting the phone to restart in fastboot mode. See here and go to the 'Try this first' section. Hope this helps.

Sounds like hboot version problem with JB upgrade, what version of HOX you have? what version of hboot? , maybe we can unlock your phone and recover the system with custom rom and then rollback to stock rom.
