[Q] Where can you get sprint apps that are removed from some roms? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Where can you get the Sprint apps such as Sprint Zone, Sprint TV, and Sprint Navigator when they are removed from roms? I didn't find links to them in the wiki (there probably should be one), and I didn't find them on a search. Does anyone have a link for the newest sprint zone, sprint tv, sprint navigator, etc?

Really?!? Really? You put a question tag in the topic. You have been here for over a year. Yet you still posted in the wrong section? Way to go.

I'm kinda new/newb.. But usually the dev will include a folder with zips on your sd cars and you can flash them or search the roms thread for the apk or zip
I know fresh has a folder...
Others just ask the dev and they will post it
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

As stated, they're usually included in the ROM under /sdcard/**removed apks or some sort. Fresh Evo ROM is an example.

There is no sprint zone in fresh's removed folder, it's the first place I checked. Anyone have a link to it?

Did you try unzipping a stock rom and looking in /system/apps

Helpful! Moron.

get your flame suit on..most devs have a link to removed apps. Just look.

Here is all the Sprint apps from SteelH stock v3.26.651.6 │Rooted│ DeOdexed RevE3. I do believe all of them are the most up to date versions. I think the Sprint_Promotion apk is the Sprint Zone your talking about. Just install through adb. I could possibly make a flashable zip if needed.

So does this mean the SystemUI in this version is able to decompile without errors? If so how exactly did you do this?
Thanks.

I used smali and allowed each APK to reference all of the .odex files in the framework, added the classes.dex files to their respective APKs, and zipaligned. I don't know if it matters, but I did those steps through the command line, although I'm sure the process would be a lot faster with a script. If you would like the exact line-by-line process that I used, let me know.
So how is this Rom & all I have to do is download & flash it or is there another step to do?

The procedures are the same as for other ZIP-based ROMs: download, transfer to phone, and flash through recovery. You may or may not need to erase your data (depending on which ROM you're coming from), but backing up your data beforehand is advisable and never hurts.
I haven't received any feedback regarding this specific ROM yet (I don't know if that's a good or bad sign). The main difference is that it's deodexed and will decompile without errors. I'm sure there are other threads with more in-depth information on IMM26 changes/improvements/issues.
SuperUser
I was impressed with this rom for the first few minutes I used it. But then I found out that my SuperUser app wasn't working. I tried updating the binaries through the app itself but it couldn't gain root access. I downloaded the file again and flashed it again but SuperUser still didn't work. It was the same problem with not gaining root access. So I flash the SuperUser zip file from zedomax's tutorial on rooting the Nexus S 4G and I was able to gain root access. Just thought I'd tell you.
mvilla, how did you fix the superuser root access problem? i am having the same problem when i try to update binary, and im getting permission error when i try to flash recovery in rom manager, i think is because of superuser not working.
I went to nexusshacks.com and downloaded the nexussrootICS.zip file (I think that's what its called). There's a SuperUser.zip file within that zip file. I moved the file to my phone and flashed it in recovery (wipe cache and dalvik cache of course). And its working well.

Hey buddy, I'd LOVE to have the step-by-step, or line-by-line on the process you used to decompile. If you could PM me, or post it up here for everyone to use, that would be great!! I'm kinda new to the decompiling and compiling scene so any help would be great! Also, you said that most devs that use ICS probably use a kitchen to decompile and compile their .jar and .apk files, where is this kitchen? Or are you talking about Android SDK?

Did you ever get that step-by-step process for deodexing ICS from the OP? If so, can you send it to me?
I guess the Google Apps are included?
Will there be any further updates to this in the near future, or has this reached the end of the line so-to-speak? Just curious because I like having the natural AOSP of this.
Been using this since the 9th and I have to say it's very smooth. Very stock too, which obviously is what it's supposed to be. Just saying that for anyone who comes in looking for something customized. This is basically pure vanilla ICS.
Sorry for the delayed replies. I've been hammered by other obligations lately.

The stock Google apps are included. There are now two choices: One has the apps that were included in the IMM26 release (R3) and I have also included the latest app updates and related binary files as (R4).

I have replaced the Google apps that have been updated since the IMM26 release. There are rumblings that the official ICS ROM should be released sometime soon. I'm not holding my breath, but I'll offer the same thing to that release once it comes out.
If you're asking about adding functionality or features, I don't think I'd have anything unique to offer since there are so many other ROMs and customizable updates out already. I have considered including FaceLock functionality, but it adds quite a bit of size to the ROM and honestly, it hasn't worked very well for me. If there is enough interest, I'll include it as a separate revision in the future.

Android Gingerbread OS File List

I've looked but I would really like to find a complete list of what all the apk files are along with what they represent in Gingerbread 2.3.x.
Mainly for the purpose of replacing /system/app files with versions out of necessity or for purely esthetic reasons.
Ummm maybe read calks bare rom converter?
That is only a list of stripped apps from his rom. I would like a list of all the apk files AND what they represent.
For instance, Camera.APK is the Camera App (pretty obvious).
However, ChocoEUKor.APK is not as obvious.

It's a tough search. There are plenty of bloatware removal lists but not a complete apk list with descriptions.
I'll keep looking thanks.
Here are two list that I just made of the system app folder of EL29 Gingerbread Stock rom. Hope this helps.
They are in a zip file. One is a .csv and the other is a .pdf. If you need them in another format let me know. It does not tell the function of all files but has a list of them.

[Q] Is there a way to enable call recording in stock ROM?

Hello there,
I have a rooted t999, unlocked. After going through multiple posts on this forum, I have realized that to enable the call recording feature on your samsung galaxy s3 t999, you got to install a custom ROM.
But, is there any way to update a .apk (or any other method) , compatible with the stock ROM on t999 which might enable the call recording feature back?
Cheers!

This is NOT my work!
This the stock UVALG1 Dialer app modded by uoY_redruM, dev for the FreeGS3 rom. All thanks and credit goes to him!

This should work on any stock based rom though.
I'm pretty sure this is where the mod is included. Not sure right now if its dependant on another modded apk as well. Heading to work so will check later if this doesn't work by itself.

Its the samsung dialer so itll only work on stock based roms.
It'll likely be dependant on other parts of the touchwiz framework and is integrated along with contacts and such.
You can try it but I would be extremely surprised if it worked on anything like CM or ASOP.

Wait, sorry I shoulda been specific I guess! I don't think you can install like a normal app.
Use root explorer and copy the original from /system/app for your backup.
Pay attention to the permissions it has and copy the modded one over the old. Change permissions to what they were before. Reboot into recovery and clear cache and dalvik, then reboot system.
Test.

This is quite interesting! Although I have root explorer, I am terrible with the android stuff and so I am worried about replacing this apk with the existing phone.apk. (its the lack of "recovery" knowledge that scares me to go ahead)
Has anyone of you experts made the dialer work so far through this integration of FreeGS3 phone.apk on the stock ROM?
Cheers!
Another thing that I just figured - In my stock ROM, I do not have a phone.apk (attaching screenshot)
Which app should be backed up? I am guessing that the GS3 apk should be renamed as the stock ROM apk. correct?
http://db.tt/t7Ig4rsG
Edit 2:
guys, just figured out that there is actually an .apk called SecPhone_TMO.apk (kept searching for phone.apk )
so, please ignore the screenshot above!
although, will wait for someone to try replacing the stock ROM .apk with the GS3.
Worked perfect on Wicked's ROM. Have to move the stock phone APK out of the system\app directory and replace it with Doc's. Make sure to put the phone in airplane mode first.
Question - where are the recordings stored?
Thanks for the awesome mod!
They are stored at /sdcard/sounds/
Thank uoy_redrum at the freegs3 thread. Its his work not mine.

I wouldn't worry much about it. Especially if you make a copy of the original file as a backup on extSDcard.
Titanium backup works really well too.
Biggest thing to remember is the permissions.
If you can boot into recovery, wiping cache is no big deal at all. Wiping dalvik isn't bad either. When you reboot it'll rebuild dalvik but will use the new app you copied into system.
ALWAYS MAKE A NANDROID BEFORE ANYTHING!!!
That's the most important yhing you can do when messing with anything. It basically creates an exact image/snapshot of your current setup so you can go back to it at anytime.

Jelly Bean wifi calling apk

Can someone please share this for me? I am using the i9300 and having wifi calling will be a real improvement for me. I've tried searching, all I get so far is that the apk works only on touchwiz (which is what I have), but nobody's put up a link to this mythical thing
It only works for Tmobile, if you're using international S3 it won't work.
It's not just a apk, it's in the framework too.

I am on an Omega Jelly Bean ROM on t-mobile, with the i9300 variant. Don't I check all the right boxes? I thought the framework that it needed was part of touchwiz?
its way way more complicated then what you think it is.

The pack has to be built for touchwiz because of the libs used to make it work.
You need the wifi calling provisioning or it won't route the UMA traffic over the right T-Mobile gateway.
Files:
system/app/com.android.kineto.apk
system/lib/libganril.so
system/lib/lib_ril_switch.so <--- may be custom modded for vendor (ie: Samsung, HTC etc)
system/lib/libkineto.so
system/lib/libreference-ril.so
system/lib/librilswitch.so
There may or may not be other files but you can see it's not just an APK.

That is a start but im afraid that's about all it is. You'd also need wificall.apk (com.movial.wifiicall) and probably some binary files.
Also, even if you managed to get all the correct files, you would then need to port the code over to settings so you can use it. There is also probably code in systemui, framework, etc. I just doubt that simply flashing the files to your phone will work...unless the i9300 version of tw has it already and you just need it to work for tmobile. I dont think itll be a quick or easy thing to do.

I am on an Omega Jelly Bean ROM on t-mobile, with the i9300 variant. Don't I check all the right boxes? I thought the framework that it needed was part of touchwiz?

Did you check under settings? On late model phones it's not an apk, but built into the phone.

It is possible to get wifi calling on your i9300. As seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHhjduFCCug] need to flash a T-Mobile S3 ROM on your phone. Much more simply than the methods discussed above.

[Q] E-mail APK

I have the boost mobile s2, which I'm told is exactly like the samsung epic touch 4g. I am rooted and am on a custom rom (pacinblack). I am trying to install a mail apk file someone linked me to that also has a widget inside this app. The file is email.apk. I also have es file explorer. I downloaded the file and I long pressed the file (in es explorer) to install it. It said it installed correctly. I then reboot my phone and go into my app drawer and widgets and there is no mail app. Am I doing something wrong??When I go into settings-apps and when I look in the download section, there is no mail app, but when I go into the all section I see something that says exchange services. Is this the e-mail apk I am looking for. When I press on this, it gives me two options, to forcestop or diaable?? This is called exchange services and has a picture beside it of mail, so I figured this was it. Does anyone know why this is not showing up in my app or widget drawer?? Does this apk file have to be in a particular folder on my sd card or in systems? Someone told me in the other forum that to put it in systems-apps. I tried moving it to there but it wont move there and when I try, it changes the name of the file but leaves it right where it is?? I have root access enabled on my es explorer so that is not the problem. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. I am seeking help in this forum because the other forum is not that active and there doesn't appear to be any active developers there. Thank again.

Is the email.apk compatible with Pacinblack? What I mean, for example, the email client in JV is secemail.apk. You may have an incompatible email.apk. I tinker with my system apk's all the time. Just copy your email.apk that you currently have in system, anywhere. Then long press the one in system file, delete it, then cut and paste your friends in there. If it doesn't take, just put your original one in there, but if it's compatible with Pacinblack, which I believe is jb, it should take. Good luck.

Touchwiz secmail.apk won't play nice with aosp. The solution is to download a ROM or gapps package that includes the apk you want, and copy/paste it to /system/app

Thanks for the responses. Like you said, I'm surprised pib rom doesn't have a native app. Do you have any idea what that exchange services is under settings-apps-all. There's a little mail icon next to this. If that's not for email, does anyone know where I can get the right apk mail file for the pac in black rom. Maybe I have the wrong apk for this rom. I was looking on the epic 4g rom developer thread but couldn't find the file and I couldn't post on that thread to ask.

When I installed the pac in black rom, I also installed the gapps file with it. How do I know what jb gapps to pull the apk from? Isn't there certain gapps for a particular rom? Also, when I have the file, how do I pull the apk file from it, I've never done this before. By the way, thanks for the help in trying to assist me in getting this mail app working.

I am looking for a native email app that has a widget so I don't have to open a app to see my emails. I just got this phone about 2 weeks ago, previously I had the HTC evo v with a custom rom the had the email app I am looking for now. Can you direct me to which jb gapps are compatible with this rom and which gapps is likely to have the email app I seek, thanks.

Next time try Google. This is the first result for "aosp email apk". The link you want is in the fourth or fifth post.
