I'm looking to buy an HTC Desire with Telus, but I can't find any bloody stock anywhere.
The website says out of stock. Every Telus store around here is out of stock. Futureshop, Bestbuy, Walmart, etc. All out of stock.
Anyone in the area (GTA) have any idea where I might be able to find one?
Way to predict the market, Telus
Call the Cambridge store, thats where I got mine. I work in Waterloo commute in from GTA so I got it on my way.

Hey folks,
I just made an ebay purchase for an A8183.
I recieved it today and the box barcode and labeling match the imei and model number, but under the status setting it says A8181. The back says next g and telstra plus the box matched the sellers description.
The seller is allowing me to return it. So everyone planning to scoop one up, make sure the seller sends you a picture of the status page under settings, and it says a8183.
peace
My Desire is A8181 as well. What's the difference?
Frequency for hsdpa/umts. a8183 is for att in the usa.
it's possible that the seller flashed an A8181 ROM. if you haven't done so already, did you test to confirm you could/could not use at&t 3G? what is the model number under the battery? A8181 or A8183? i mention this because if i used a UK ROM cook's European ROM on my Telstra Touch HD, it would show a UK ROM number. it didn't matter tho, i could still connect to at&t 3G. oh yeah, my HTC Telstra HTC Desire also says A8181, but i can connect to at&t 3G without a problem. the seller flashed a UK ROM on the device.
I got a feeling your right, because everything matches under the battery. It says a8183, but the status page under settings shows a8181.
The build number as I investigate show test keys in their tag.
What radio are you using? Its the baseband I believe.
Any suggestions?
Yeah I am using the nextG branded and I got it from the telstra shop, so it is legit, but I just checked mine and it says 8181, though mine has been rooted, did its have any of the telstra cooked in crap or not? if not then I would say it was actually legit.

Presumably you are using this on AT&T in the US. If so, if you can get a 3G connection, it's an A8183 and you are good to go.
Regards,
Dave
Definitely AT&T, the lack of 3g is what tipped me off. But there was no telstra software apps, just branding and packaging.
Also the baseband was not the same as the Telstra specs, and the rom version was not found anywhere within xda or google. I think the kernel version ended with the word test keys. 1.21 and
But I got my refund and reordered an unopened today from A GA company.
Is it possible that the radio or rom was to blame for the lack of 3g. I think it can from my should I say lack of experience porting android over windows.
Caint wait... I have been having withdrawal syptoms since I did the return. Suddenly my free backflip is awkward and dull.
peace,
The Desire is coming to Telus mobility (Canada)
http://www.telusmobility.com/en/ON/htc_desire/index.shtml
I've heard rumours of the release date being August 8th
canada still have not the desire? poor guys
Be the time the Desire gets to some places it will be getting replaced in others! Still, at least you're getting it
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Yeah Canadian carriers are brutal for getting phones.... We just got the Legend and the Droid (milestone) and now we get the Desire.
Never even saw the HD2
At least I can hope the Desire isn't locked down here!
I just wish Telus would release the details on it already.
The rumors are that it'll be priced pretty low, and I'm getting excited about picking it up.
I missed my chance buying from the Nexus One online store, and just found out about this coming soon.
Hopefully the hardware won't be branded, & it will be easy to unlock. It'll be my first Android phone.
I hope it isnt branded either....
I've heard itll be 79.99 on a 3 year
You can get an unlocked Desire 8183 from several places and run on Rogers network. I did a couple months ago and works great! Just input APN settings for Rogers and you are good to go.
Can anybody help me purchase a Telus Desire from Canada for use in the USA? The Telus website says they will not ship to locations outside of Canada
I've checked ebay but they cost hundred$ more than Telus is asking for the device off-contract.
I'll drive the 4 hours each way if I have to........
I am new to the Android scene and I would like to know if the G2 and/or Desire Z work fine on AT&T's network? I have no problem with rooting as long as tools and documentation are available. I'm not a professional at this but I can usually follow the instructions. I've rooted an HTC Inspire but that was already on AT&T's network so, no issues there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Yes you can. You must get the HTC Desire Z a7275 model. This model is also known as the Bell Desire Z because Bell is the carrier. You can get one for as low as 450 USD on ebay but make sure you get the right kind. The G2 and other Desire Z version will work but they will not get 3G. Only the A7275 will get 3G.
Sent from my HTC Desire Z
Ok, thanks a lot for that!!!
Also, if you get the A7275 Desire Z, it needs to be SIM unlocked to be able to use it on AT&T. Either already SIM unlocked from the seller, or you can root and use gfree to unlock the SIM yourself.
Ok, SIM unlock and gfree should not be a problem for me.
thanks again!!!
I'm considering buying an HTC Desire Z from an Ebay seller located in Canada. Can anyone tell me if there are any duty fees / taxes for importing into the USA and if so, how these are paid, etc. I've never bought anything like this from outside the USA so, I have no idea what to expect.
Again, any advice would be appreciated.

I did the same with Ebay. I did not get any extra fees. The seller just sent it through Canada Post and then once it got to the US it went through USPS. It only took about a week. UPS and Fedex would be faster but a lot more expensive.
Just a heads up, Canada Post is currently engaged in a "labour dispute" with its union, so packages may take longer to be delivered. You could look for sellers that ship via UPS or Fedex, but I hear that they charge ridiculous brokerage fees (for the cross-border transaction).
Thanks to everyone for their input! My HTC Desire Z is great! Those of you wanting a moderatly sized android with a good physical keyboard, buy the Desire Z. All the junk I saw about the Z hinges being loose and other wierd stuff some people are able to make the hinge mechanism do, I have had none of those problems for over a month now. If you expect the Z hinge to keep an air tight seal when closed then this phone may not be for you but for those who have some understanding of mechanics, I don't think you will have any issues with it. Thanks again!!!
I've seen in a couple of places that if one were to purchase the Moto Z Play outright that it would be best to get the UK version due to the additional radio bands that are available. Where would be the best place to purchase the UK version to be delivered to the US? So far clove DOT co DOT uk is the only place that even appears reputable that I have found so far. Additionally, as long as it has LTE/CDMA there shouldn't be any issue using it on VZW should there? Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.
