Hello, all. I wanted to share with you guys what I came up with to mount my Evo in my car. Personally, I don't like the way a windshield kit clutters my view. Not to mention, in my car and with the way I sit, the phone would end up farther away from me than I'd like. So I got a Panavise mount from ebay for a little under $20 shipped. You can check their site here to see if they make one for your car: www.panavise.com
The iPhone holder that Panavise makes isn't big enough for the Evo, so I just stuck some velcro on the bare metal of the bracket like so:

I also purchased this hard back case cover from eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Hard-Back-C...682093?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item483b3fcc2d), and stuck the other side of the velcro tape on the back of it, like so:
You end up with something like this:
You can stick it on like this or in landscape just as easily. The bracket is angled towards the driver slightly, so it is a perfect set up for me; especially in a stick-shift car. The Evo pops in and out of the case easily, so I leave it in the car and use it to play mp3's and for hands free talking. My radio has navigation already, but for someone who uses their phone for navi, this is awesome. It keeps the phone out of the way yet very accessible, and it is very sturdy.
The set-up will cost you mayve $25 in total, and in my opinion, is A LOT better than the $60 windshield kit. Hopefully Panavise makes the bracket for you car. Enjoy!
I would go 1 step further and run a line from fuse box to phone (fuseable) so that you wouldnt occupy the power port
I kinda did this, but didn't have the mount, i actually put a small velcro strip on the dash. it didn't look bad at all and gripped well at first, but it didn't hold up so well in the hot n humid chicago summer. the adhesive would melt and the velcro looks like its "dripping" downward slowly but surely lol
Plus, the velcro on the phone started picking up pocket lint
Looks sharp and minimalistic, nice idea. Maybe i'll share my work of art for the car too lol I enjoy being crafty
Joey: I like where your head is at with that idea.
Itsall: It gets plenty hot here in Miami, and it survived the summer already. The velcro is easy enough to replace anyway. Also, you don't need to put the velcro directly on the car or the phone this way.

Great idea! I live here in Fort Lauderdale, FL and the heat issue was a concern for me too, so glad to hear its no problem. I'll check this out soon, looks like an ideal setup. Thanks!

I'm in the process of getting the pieces together to build a semi-permanent mount in the Nav cubby area of my car (which isn't equipped with a Nav).
Instead of one of these hard cases, I ordered a $5 belt clip off of ebay. I'm going to cut the clip off the back of it and use it to hold the phone instead of the hard case. That way it's got a clip that's easy to pop the phone out of while leaving the belt clip (minus clip) attached to the dash.
Just a thought.
Looks good and would work well for me as we have very similiar interiors
Are you on ModdedMustangs.com?
AlkamistStar: In my car, the radio sits low and away from the direct sunlight; plus my tints are very dark. In some cars/trucks where the radio sits higher to the top of the dash and the velcro is exposed to direct sunlight, this could still be an issue. Honestly, I had never though it it until it was mentioned, but I can tell you I have no problems with the heat and the tape looks as it did the day i put it on.
Andy: Yea, the belt clip is a good idea. I thought of it, but because at the time there was no belt clip big enough to hold the Evo, I did this. The phone pops in and out of this back case very easily, though. I am happy with this set-up for now. If I lose the back case or it breaks, then I would look into a belt-clip set up, for sure.
Mike: I am, but I haven't been posting on the Mustang forums in a while. I've been hooked on this site since June....lol. Either way, I've modded this Stang as much as I plan to and my fox body project is on old due to financial embarrassment, so there is no need for me to be on there now anyway....lol. You may have seen my car around the web; I'm a post-whore when it comes to her:
And now this thread is officially off track.

Nice! Honestly, I've been a fan of the RX series and the high-revving rotary motor since I was a kid. A friend of mine that still works for Dynamic Turbo had an RX-7 that to this day is one of the fastest cars I've ever been in or around. He has a Supra now with like 1000 hp.....and I'm not exaggerating. lol His RX-7 would spit 2 feet of flame from the exhaust every time he shifted at WOT. It was f*cking awesome!

I love supras and rx7's. My buddy has an rx7's its freaking awesome. My rx8 is probably maxed out HP wise I put alot of money into mods. The only thing left to do for an extra 260hp is to purchase a supercharger/turbo and then do my aftermarket chipping after im done with all the mods. My rx8 is an 07", when I decide to get another vehicle I want a mustang GT or a camaro! I love my car but I need some American muscle in my life.

I'm really enamored with the 5.0 on the new Stangs. 412 hp out the box, 6-speed, beefed up suspension, 14" brakes, your choice of gears in the rear-end....... I don't know I've been able to control myself from going out and buying one. My plan is to do exactly what I did with this one: Wait a while and buy a used one at a fraction of the price it costs new.
Hopefully the new engine gets better than 12.4 mpg's like I'm getting on this one. lol

Yeah 412 out the box is sick! I have my 8 up to about 380; it was 242 off the lot. These 8's really aren't that fast driving off the lot with their 1.3L rotary engines but once you open up the exhaust and drop an intake they fly. It does pretty good on gas I guess. This car has the best handling for races but a mustang would smoke it on a quarter mile. The MPG might not be great on a GT but ill take one! Also the one thing that bugs me about the 8's is that the rotary engine goes through oil like a baby on formula. In between oil changes I find my self having to put a quart or two in my engine(can't even run synthetic). Your rotary will last forever if you take care of the oil. One day when I get rich lol ill find someone selling my dream car (67' Shelby GT) and buy that sucker.

Damn! That's what mine is pushing on motor! I was running NOS in it for a while, but I took it out because I never used it. I only put it in because I picked up the kit on Craigslist for $250, but I only sprayed it a few times messing around. It's a daily driver, so I don't wanna risk blowing the engine on some bull ****. lol

so at best buy i bought this.. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/IQ+Smar...5869745&skuId=9788635&st=vent mount&cp=1&lp=5
it's got a bunch of adapters in it for ipods and garmins/other navi's and 3 universal flat pads.
i used double sided sticky tape and the same evo case off ebay which is a pretty good idea cuz it's secure as hell.
then the evo back case i have mounted on there and it's pretty secure, cost me a total of $9 (employee discount for mount was $6, case was $3)

That's pretty slick......I'd just be concerned about the weight of the Evo on that double-sided tape. Especially if you drive over bumpy roads.

So, I'd been looking for a decent hard case for a while, and just never found a deal on one that I liked enough to buy. Trolling around on eBay, I found this little guy, Monaco Case
It looked like too good a deal to be of real quality. But, I checked the item location, and s#!t, the guy's in my town, 10 min from home. So, I drove down to his store to check 'em out...
At the time, I wasn't able to find many up to date reviews for this case, so I'm hoping that this post will help at least one or two people make a decision on whether to purchase or not.
...turns out that they are actually pretty nice. The build quality is very good, the hinge feels solid and operates smoothly, the latch clasps easily and securely. It's not likely to be popping open at inopportune moments. I have since tested this, as the phone recently took a hard 5' fall onto a concrete warehouse floor, bounced a couple times, and came to rest, still closed, phone undamaged and case unscratched. The case is lined with a thin layer of neoprene, the phone fits in snuggly and will not be scratched by the aluminum shell. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by it, I ended up buying one for me and one for my buddy's Evo. Sorry about this grainy pic, taken with my girl's Hero. The others will be better, I promise.

The small shinny spots on the bottom of the case here are just reflections from the sunlight directly over head, not scratches, the cases finish quality is very good.
Access to the power and volume buttons is a little more difficult, but not a major problem. The kick stand still functions as intended, I use it plenty, and I feel that the camera is now well protected.
The case also comes with a little belt clip thingy that screws into the back of the case, cool idea... but, it was too cheesy for everyday use. I tossed it in the garbage when I got home. So, I set out to fab up a car mount to utilize the threaded bung on the back of the case. This is what I came up with. It's made from pieces of a cheesy adjustable car mount that I got at Radio Shack for $8 on clearance. I cut out the pieces I wanted, shaped, sanded and drilled until I was happy, then bolted it on.
Yeah, it adds a bit of bulk to an already bulky case, but that's not really an issue for me. I really need the protection this kind of case offers as I'm quite prone to damaging/destroying high end electronics. Thank god I have BB black tie protection as well, it's been well exploited . Also, there aren't really any off the shelf car mounts that will work with a hard case like this, so I had to come up with something.
I think it came out pretty nice, and it looks damn good in my truck. Using navigation is now worlds easier, plus I'm far less likely to run down a group of small children crossing the street whilst fumbling around, looking for my misplaced Evo.
The dash side of the mount is fairly adjustable via the ball & socket joint, it feels solid overall, and the phone slides on/off the mount easily without being sloppy. It's attached to the dash with a nice piece of double sided 3M tape that actually came with the original crappy car mount. It's quite strong and I don't feel like it will be failing anytime soon. And... a bonus for me, I ran the audio and charger cords straight into the dash, where they are hard wired into the truck, no more dangly cords for me.
Overall I'm really happy with how everything worked out. Even without the car mount, I feel like the aluminum case is a pretty good deal. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a solid protective case at a great price. I'm not sure exactly why these cases are so cheaply priced, but I think that they are well worth it.
I should mention that I'm in no way affiliated with the seller of these cases, and I have nothing to gain from the guy selling millions of them, although I'm sure he would love you for it. They are manufactured in China, which I'm sure has a lot to do with the price point. They're the exact same as the cases also being sold under the PDAir brand name. They can also be had in a shinny aluminum finish, for all the bling that some may require.
How much thickness would you say this case adds? I have been wanting to ditch my bodyglove shell case for a while and this seems like it might be the answer if it's not too thick and doesn't add too much weight to the Evo.
Thanks

The case adds .188" to the overall thickness. The phone goes from 1/2" thick, to 11/16" thick. It's not too bad, and it still slides in and out of my back pocket easily enough.

Yes, I super glued my piece in place to keep it from spinning around on the single bolt. I actually used epoxy rather than super glue, and it is holding great.

well i tried to order one and the guy sent it to an unconfirmed paypal address and I lost my money. You do know that, regardless of what you email the seller, they can only ship to the address given to them by Paypal.
If you need to change things like shipping info, you need to make a note with your Paypal payment when you send it. There is a place for special notes like that. Also, if you are having trouble with Paypal giving the wrong info, you need to contact Paypal about that.
You can't be blaming the seller for shipping to the address Paypal gave them. They are not obligated to be checking emails before they ship items, that's why you always see notes at the bottom of product descriptions that read something like, please email in advance if you have any questions/concerns/special instructions.

Sounds like the seller sent it to an UNCONFIRMED address.
That's his bad.
if you don't know how to properly use ebay/paypal, then you should have called the seller and arranged a different form of purchase.
It is very easy to select which address you want things shipped to with paypal and ebay. And it isnt like they are going to send a different one to the seller than what you select, it is all handled by one script/program and it isn't able to send a different address, it just isn't technically possible.
And it is very possible for you to chose the unconfirmed address instead of the confirmed one if the seller allows shipping to unconfirmed addresses. But it is still 100% up to you to choose the correct one.

J/K I understand that some need a big strong case due to the line of work they are in or due to their hobbies, its all good.

You can delete the bad address frim paypal and use a new one and confirm it.
If paypal is known for doing this tovyou then YOU need to fix it.
To the OP.....
I hope you realize that any type of metal case over your phone cqn and usually will greatly impede your signal.
Alum. Or any metal in a phone case where the antennas are under the shell is just stupid.
As sensative as gps is, that is going to be hurt too. Along with wifi.
I realise it thin metal but why would you want a metal rf reflective case.
Not only that but you are 100% guarented to scratch the living hell out of you phone where the mdtal edges touch the glass and sides of the case on the top of the phone.

TETRAX MAGNETIC MOUNTING SYSTEM
The TETRAX Mount has to be the easiest and Nicest looking system I have ever used. Basically it uses 4 differently Polarized Magnets to secure your phone to your dashboard or vent. There are two styles...
The XWAY Uses a screw in clamping Mechanism to secure it to your AC vents

The rubber "X" shaped thing keeps your phone from turning once you mount it either landscape or Portrait. Included are like 7 different sized metal buttons that attache to the phone ranging from small to large. I use the smallest one on my Galaxy II and it holds perfectly. Its about a quarter of an inch wide. There are larger ones if you want to mount a big GPS or something. Watch some YouTube reviews or see the perfect star rating on Amazon and you will be sold on this thing. I picked mine up at fry's electronics instead of ordering and shipping but its available through the Tetrax site or Amazon also..
Where as The FIXWAY comes with a small mount you stick to your dashboard and attach the FIXWAY unit to. I prefer this method to the vent method since I use my Vents often. PS I Had to remove mine from it's original spot to another (switched from iPhone 4s to Galaxy 2 and needed the the phone higher so it wouldn't block my NAV unit screen) and there was no residue or marks left. It comes with 2 mounts and more can be purchased.
Here's a pic of the button on the back. This is the medium sized one, I use the smaller one.

It comes with an auto grade 3m adhesive. Although not impossible to remove, I had to use a little rubbing alcohol to do it. Its a very firm hold. I've had mine on my dash for four months and on my 4s since October. Only been on the GII a week or so. Still firm as all get out. Might not be for everyone but not having to push buttons to pull off or put my phone on sold me. Less adjustments I have to make the better. It just works.
Those things are pretty smart but it's a pain in the ass having to stick something to the back of your phone.
I guess it's not too bad if you stick it to the back of a cheap TPU case and only use it when mounting it in your car though. It's a small price to pay considering the TPU case is only like $10.
EDIT:
After watching the youtube videos it seems like it's pretty cool. I might actually sell my samsung infuse dock and get one of these instead. I like the feature of being able to just grab it off the holder instead of prying the phone out of a car dock.

Yeah that was my biggest reason for ditching my old dock. Simplistic mount and it stays put. No bouncing around while I'm driving. Plus it looks cool compared to most setups IMHO. Plus if you use more than 1 device its nice cause u don't have to adjust every time you swap.
Hint hint... Thanks Button
Haha, I'll grab one by the new years and see how it works. I'm still a bit skeptical on how it will hold the phone but it seems promising.
There is no good place to put it on an Aegis case
Wow that magnetic holder in reality is horrible in theory is wonderful
why could they not use "SHAPED magnets say SQUARE magnets ??
then you would not need the fugly X thing. and it would lock vertical or landscape easily enough ???
is not the magnet a danger to the phone or memory card? it has to be a pretty beefy magnet to do its job.
what I REALLY like about this mount method is you can use "ANY" case you want with it. and unlike your phone you can probably dig a small crater in the case and more "flush mount" the magnet.
I would want to go with "TWO" magnets. this way you have 2 points of contact and therefore no need for the fugly X rubber beast on your dash.
I am liking this idea. I wish I could buy "JUST" that little "puck" in the middle sans the big ugly X. but $35 is a bit much to hack it up to extract that piece especially since I need 2.
boy am I liking the potential of this. so you have had no data issues with the magnets?

No there isn't any issues with the magnets because the polarity is set in such a way to maximize hold and leave no magnetic field. On the site there is a puck only option, its only like $14.99. I like the look of the X personally but you never see it since its behind the phone anyways.
BOy even that is $24 plus shipping
$15 for the mount $9 for the set of buttons (but it does come with 7 of them it seems)
a little steep but cheap enough for me to take a shot at it when funds allow
ahh that is not how magnets work. they don't "cancel" each other out they REINFORCE each other.
so the mag field of those 4 magnets is stronger than the field of just one.
don't believe me? pop the back off your phone. now stick it to the mag mount.
not stick some paperclips on the "inside" of your battery cover.

OK FORGET EVERYTHING I just said.
in seeking out coupon codes I found a video HOLY CRAP that thing is TINY TINY TINY. I mean REALLY tiny.
I though that the "X" was "bigger" than the phone. I did not realize how SMALL they are !!
holy crap. I am DEFINITELY getting me some of these the moment I have the cash !
though now I confirm and expand on them being WAY to expensive. ouch.
but yeah I WANT this. bad.
MORE and MORE impressed
apparently there is something "interesting" about the 4 mag arrangement and something about the metal "tag" used to hold the phone. it (the metal dimple) shields the phone
VERY cool

yeah those pictures are flat our terrible. the "impression" is that the center puck is about the size of a golfball (when in reality its more quarter sized)
visually it comes off as something 6 or 7 inches tall.
in reality its less than 3 I mean ITS TINY.
they need to use different pictures

The whole unit is 1.5" across from end to end. The middle part is about the size of a dime. I am attaching a picture..
I swear I was going to say DIME sized but I was afraid I was being to overzealous in how small it is.
either way its AMAZING and I definitely WANT IT. just got to save up some cash it is not cheap
OH btw the mount "DOES" come with one of the metal buttons for the phone (got a response from a seller) as its unclear if it comes with any

I think I got about 6 different sized buttons with it; 2 small, 2 medium, 2 large. I use the smallest with my GSII and it holds great. Its smaller than a dime and thinner than one too.
FYI The magnets are absolutely no concern for your phone unless you manage to put a CRT or spinning disk hdd in it. Solid state electronics aren't effected by anything but the highest magnetic fields, think the level of magnetic field you could levitate a frog in.
This is so tempting to get but I need to find a way to mount it on my phone first.
i must be the only one who thinks it looks ugly and then it also uglies your phone with a shiny protruding button also. unless manufacturers implement the "button" inside the case or they make one that's strong enough to hide inside the cover instead of outside, i can see this take off.
Probably will damage my vents

I mentioned about this exogear knock off from ebay before, but after playing more with it - found a few other uses for it!!!
You can get it for $2.85 shipped from HK (http://www.ebay.com/itm/170901902477?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649), but don't make the price fool you because it's of a very decent quality. And if down the road it breaks, for a few bucks it's an easy replacement. While I was impressed with its clip functionality to hold Note 2 with a case, I noticed on a side of the clip base a screw which allows you to take off the whole car mounting portion of it. The clip by itself, with a rubber tip lining, works as a sturdy stand AND as a hand grip which could be enhanced even further by attaching a ring to a mounting hole after removing the base.
What's great about it, you don't need to glue/stick anything to your phone, you don't have to worry about it sliding of the mount, you can use it to hold a phone while in bed watching a movie, or as a stand on a table, or use it as a mount in the car with included suction cup base or any other standard bases since it uses universal ball joint. It fits any case from slim to Defender, and easily removable.
So, as a car mount it looks like this:

While when you remove car mounting part it looks like:

Edit: I went ahead and bought 1. It is $3... not gonna waste time thinking about it. LoL. It'll be here in 3-4 weeks as usual. Hope it works and won't fall off and break my phone. Haha

Absolutely, had it in pictures here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40740915&postcount=2 - ZL with this grip/stand. I also use it in bed when watching movies/tv on the phone.
Regarding it's description, they use "iphone" as a keyword to get search hits lol!!! This clip fits everything up to and including Note 2.
Awesome gonna pick one up as it's so cheap.
Love my iOttie car mount, but don't fit many of my cases unfortunately.

In for 1!
Just as a warning guys. I ordered this mount last July and its a great looking piece of kit, and its form and function are great; but unfortunately its not all that durable or steady.
First, it wiggles. The arm there is a little thin and when you hit bumps and what not the phone wiggles. It can be slightly distracting when your following GPS to have the screen shake like that. I can understand how that may seem like nit picking but the real problem I had was it's durability.
The first thing that happened to mine was that the ball that the mount rotates on wore smooth and would not hold the phone's position no matter how tightly I screwed on the ring. So to remedy that I took it apart and roughed up the ball's surface with some sand paper. Problem fixed, no more slipping.
And that worked for awhile. And then finally one day I was adjusting it, and I hadn't loosened the ring enough and I snapped the arm right off.
Admittedly it was a bit of user error but the arm really did twist off quite easily. I didn't really put all that much muscle into it, it just seemed to be fatigued with use.
So yea, looks great, works great....just handle with care, its a little delicate.

Thank you to the OP! I didn't even realize I could use the clip as a desk prop. So not all is lost, no more car mount...but I still have a desk prop, kick stand thing!
Yes, vibrations are expected for this type of a design. I just had 4hr round trip with this holder in Highlander and w/ZL battery and tpu, and it worked really good. As far as built quality, it's $2+ gadget You can get a real Exogear Exomount 2 for $30 (which is a base for this knockoff). But overall it's a very useful toy on my list. I use it all the time when I watch movies on my N2 in bed. Saved me dozen of times from getting a black eye lol!
Hummm... no shipping details from seller yet. Wondering whats happening.

For sure! Just to note my mount was the Exogear branded version of this, ie. the Exomount Gen 1. So I paid about 20 bucks.
That being said if you can get these for like 4 bucks shipped, yea no question...great value for the money.

I purchased this type of mount from a different seller a few months ago and had the same experience. My note now rests on my dash(mounted low on the windshield) because the ball joint is worn out. I will try your sandpaper trick and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks for the advice

ebay has it for a buck or less. I'm sure you can get it at walmart/target/bestbuy since these are typical Garmin style dash sticky disks.
Btw, I have been using this in a car on a windshield and its solid!!! I'm talking about $2.85 ebay version Been using my wife's Highlander for a few long trips, so don't want anything permanent mounted in there. This one goes on the glass and holds my Note 2 with Zerolemon 9k3 battery without a problem, and extra weight is not an issue either. Yes, you get vibration and some shaking - that's expected, but its a solid phone mount on a windshield. The one I have at home, just a clip - it's my go to piece when I'm watching tv/movies in bed. Had it for a very long time - no complaints. As a matter of fact, I find this cheap knock off spring to be stronger than original Exogear one.

I use the OEM Samsung Note 2 case which has a rubber lip around the glass... (Not on the phone in the pictures.) It clearly didn't help in this case. Was putting the phone into my pocket at lunch while headphones were connected. The wire snagged and tilted the phone out of my hand. As it fell it was heading down to hit the bottom edge at and angle but it ran out of wire (as the earbuds were in my ears) so it yanked the wire, which spun it around making sure it hit the ground perfectly face first.
Didn't bounce ... make a funny sound. I had a feeling that was it .... and yep, picked it up and this.
Even though shards of glass are coming off, the digitizer and S-pen still worked perfectly! I quickly go on the phone to Ensquared and a replacement is on its way. $75 deductible isn't too bad, considering the price of the phone. (I bought the $99.99 two year warranty option when I got this phone.)
First phone I have ever broken, and I had a Droid X phone for two years with a ton of drops, no case and never an issue. (Just scratches on the body and even a ding on the metal lip of the screen.) Bad luck or is the Note 2 just more fragile? Price we pay for the huge screen?
I'm using a HTC Amaze 4G right now ... 4.3" screen and it's impossible to use now. Feels so cramped and tiny .... and so slow and laggy. Replacement can't come quickly enough.

I think falling onto carpet, even thin carpet is totally fine. Even onto a wood floor my phone would have survived. It was onto concrete but especially concrete with lots of little pebbles in it, creating a bumpy surface. Bumpy enough that if you lay the phone flat on it the only part actually touching is the tops of the little pebbles against the glass....
That's why my corners are fine -- I think the break started down in the lower right corner-ish area when a sharp pebble must have slammed right into the glass with a sharp point.
I dropped my Note 2 twice from waist height on two different occasions with no case. Once it landed on face down (on plain concrete floor) and the other on its back, so far it seemed to be handling those punishments well. I don't know if having a case has a negative impact on the way the Note 2 is aerodynamically designed to land such that.
My lil brother throw mines around sometimes on the carpet and nothing happens. I hope I don't break it because it would cost 300 to repair it.

VERY sorry for your loss.
I have been extremely rough on the Note 2 (even more than my blackberries, iphones, and S2)....I've had this phone drop SEVERAL times from the top of a 7 foot refrigerator unto a hardwood floor.
I was chilling in the backyard last weekend lounging and drinking a bottle of wine. Laid the phone in my lap and it fell 12 inches on the ground.
CRASH!
NUTS!!!
Cannot wait for the Note III with the unbreakable screen!
Dropped my N2 from about 4ft onto smooth concrete. Popped the flip cover and battery out, but other than that, no issues.
Anyone else use en squared?
Thinking about getting it, only 100 for 2 years with a 75 dollars deductible...

Breaks my heart to see these broken screens...I was surprised when I noticed a little scratch on my screen. Nothing major but I've never managed to scratch a Samsung screen going back to the original galaxy. Oh well... Ready for the npte III.

Check out the "Seidio convert" case for the note 2 on amazon...
About $55.00 for the combo case, but wow...It's a fine setup for this device.
It combines the traditional seidio mid-snap hard case, with a soft TPU outer case, and is held together by an ABS exo-skelton cover.
It also has a holster, and all controls are still functional with both case parts installed.
You can strip off the outer shell, and run lean with the active case in the office, or load up the outer cover and be protected to the extreme.
Mine got here today, and It's worth every penny...
Now, to get my new note 2 here tomorrow......
Sorry for the crash, but between this setup and otter box, you have 2 great choices to protect this fragile screen.....

:highfive: I'll vouch for you as I have the same case and I also love it.
Had the same case on my old phone for 2 years and it held up great.
As most of you know, I write hundreds of various reviews in General Accessories section of our forum/community (check out the link in my signature), so I typically being asked questions about what I found to be the best for a specific phone model or specific functionality. One question that always comes up, especially in PMs, what is the best car mount for a specific phone X or Y. I personally believe that car mount should be universal to use with any phone and any case, and with full access to all the ports, and mount option to work on a windshield or a dashboard.
With over a dozen of car mounts I reviewed recently, I have to admit Arkon Mobile Grip 2 (http://www.arkon.com/mobile-grip/) is still my top choice, currently for $19.95 including shipping on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-Windshield-Dashboard-Suction-Smartphones/dp/B00I58VAZS/). Though I have reviewed it already with my Note 2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2648852), some ask me how does it look with S5. Now after getting Galaxy S5, I've been using MG2 in my wife's Highlander and still find it to be the best car mount for the phone.
It's sticky suction base mount adhesive is as strong as a cement attached to any glass or textured dashboard; works even on a slightly curved surface. The removal is clean and doesn't leave any residue, plus it's re-usable - just rinse under a water if it starts to loose it's sticky grip. The mount arm accommodates different angles with an easy adjustment, and universal ball joint allows full 360 degree rotation. The spring loaded grip is very secure and easy to operate with one hand, and it's minimalistic design keeps the back of S5 open to use even as dashcam. Obviously, there is full access to all the ports for charging, headphone/audio cable, and power/volume buttons. As a bonus, MG2 also has a screw mount for universal camera tripod attachment (love it!). Also important to note that it comes with 2-year warranty, and from my experience Arkon guys stand behind their product to take care of you even after warranty expires.
Since I know pictures worth a thousand words, here you go for your enjoyment (with more pictures you can find in my Note 2/MG2 review above).

IGG/Crowdfunding campaign that promises to deliver next month while you can pre-order now for $70 a sticky pad with wireless charging to be used with a naked phone or thin smooth surface case and using very cheap basic suction cup base? If you would suggest as an alternative to Arkon (these guys been around for 25 years) something else reputable like iOttie or iBolt, that would be a different story. But I really fail to see how it's the best car mount
Ford had been around for a 100 years and still making ****y cars. I honestly don't think Arkon is better for me.

Are you Armando who reviewed it in the video?
Regarding companies and how long they been around, I didn't mean it in a way that it justifies the quality, although I can speak from a hand's on experience since I tested and compared a lot of car mounts where Arkon quality is at the top. The same way I can tell you that after reviewing hundreds of cases, UAG is at the top, or after reviewing a ton of external battery packs - nothing beats Anker. But I do have a problem with crowdfunding projects. It was "cool" back in 2012 and maybe first half of 2013. A lot of them don't live up to their promises. I trust companies that been around for awhile and actually generate sales now, rather then with promises to deliver something in the future. To stay alive in such a competitive market, you gotta be doing something right. Don't have any bad wishes for Air Dock guys, but I have a good feeling they are not going to be around for too long after they will fulfill IGG orders.
One thing I do agree, there is no universal car mount or a gadget that works the same for everybody. YMMV, and this might not be for you. So, I'm glad we have a lot of different choices. Arkon MG2 works for me after testing, reviewing, and sharing on XDA about other car mounts. Something else works better for you, and I'm glad we can have a discussion about it The sticky surface mounts never took off, remember Clingo? It was sold "as seen on TV" type of deals. I have a phone case that doesn't have a flat surface and it will not stick well to it, and I would NEVER trust my $650 phone on a sticky pad going over bumps or NJ potholes or off-road

No, I am not Armando.
Arkon didn't impress me. A car mount has to have a lot more to impress me. A car mount that just holds a phone is not enough for today's expectations.
Airdock looks great but I agree with you when it comes to crowdfunding projects. It has to be more tested with different smartphones.
Another company that I like is ProClip. I would get a car mount like this for my Note 3. (Charging cable permanently attached to holder
)

How steady is the mount? I ordered this one to use my S4 in as a dashcam/media player. The thing bounces around a lot, so the video looks like it was shot by someone with Parkinsons.

It's relatively steady as long as you tighten the mounting arm screw securely and don't have your smartphone with Zerolemon triple-capacity extended battery for additional weight, but you gotta keep in mind that your car vibration will transfer to the phone/camera. Perhaps S5 has a better camera, gotta check to see if it has anti-shake feature or something like that. With dashcam, doesn't matter which commercial car mount you use, you probably going to end up with "GoPro" effect lol!!! I wonder if they make some dash mount shock absorption beanie bags bases.
I was just asked in PM where MG279 can be purchased outside of US, since I only provided Amazon US link. Just did some digging and found it here: http://www.buybits.com/Product/1913...ash-Desk-Mount-For-Smartphones-sku-19132.aspx
Check it out, Arkon guys liked my review of MG2 + S5 so much, they linked to it in their latest YT video for MG2:

How well Arkon grip the phone when it's in portrait (not sideways) mode? Would you trust it to hold your phone in a 4x4 going over sweet jumps? Or do you think the phone will eventually wiggle its way loose from the mount/clamp?
Pretty sure those microsuction cups won't hold a phone over any sweet jumps.
If you have a CD slot, this one is great.

Was looking for a decent car mount and purchased this one through Amazon based off of vectron's review. One of the best suction cup mounts I've ever used. The thing just STICKS. Works great. Holds the phone very well in either portrait or landscape mode. Excellent recommendation good sir!

Do those interfere with the cd player at all? I know with mine, the cd player tries to "eat" anything that you put in it...but I dont know how far into the slot that sensor is.

I am selling mine as it covers my only clock in the truck. Other than that I really like it. $12 bucks if ya want it. I'm going to try this one as the review is awesome.

I've been looking for one that has a built in charger for my S5, but I haven't been too happy with the ones that I have found. I wouldn't mind the outrageous price range of that proclip one Acaibowl suggested if it took advantage of the USB 3.0 capabilities of the S5, but it doesn't. The other ones I've found either don't have the USB 3.0 capabilities that I'm looking for or they all have bad reviews. Do you know of any that are worthwhile and have USB 3.0?
Edit: I also use an Otterbox case, I'm sure you know how big those get... If you know of one that matches what I'm looking for AND can accommodate an Otterbox, that would be an amazing bonus.
Thanks in advance.
What about Ram Mounts in comparison?
