[Q] Official Froyo ROM Rooted downgrade - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I installed the rom from here: [ROM] Rooted Official HTC Android 2.2 (FroYo) ROM - xda-developers, and i was wondering what is the easiest possible way to regain warranty. I rooted with unrevoked3 on a mac. Thanks in advance.
Oh and I'm on Telus

You can downgrade and root here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256

downgrading 2.2

anybody now to downgrade 2.2 back to stock 2.1, i found som info but refers to the nexus 1. it advices to unlock the bootloader by flasing a .zip file (goto androidtechnical.info and get the passimg.passion_.zip file load it to your sd card root name it passimg.zip (just one zip ext) and flash wahla)
I was wondering if i can apply this to my EVO and be done with it?
just flash to 2.1 rom.
whats your reason?
Downgrading will only be possible once it has been determined how to root an unrooted 2.2 EVO. That is not possible, at-the-moment. We will just have to wait....
if you aren't rooted currently there is no way to downgrade or root 2.2.
so in short you are stuck at stock 2.2 until the amazing devs figure out a new bug to exploit to provide root.
but just to confirm, if i'm rooted since day 1(original 2.1 root) and i installed a rom from XDA(OMJ's 2.2 froyo) i can downgrade simply by installing his older 2.1 rom right?

Not sure if you can flash a 2.1 OMJ over a 2.2 OMJ (or similar) becasue I haven't done it ( I don't think you can), but if you run simple root again (or do Toastcfh's part 2 manually) and load the engineering build, you should be able to again flash a 2.1 to downgrade...Same idea as what you need to do to downgrade in order to flash a RUU if you have to send your phone back for any reason...

i tryed that, Froyo locked up my bootloader. I have too many issues with 2.2 for my taste. I want to go back to a rooted 2.1 and flash a custom Froyo Rom

yes! this is what I want to be able to do. having an original 2.1 root allows you to flash any ROM Sprint Stock or ortherwise, its almost like changing skins but your base never changes. The only time things change permanently is when you do an UPDATE. Doing an UPGRADE only brings the eye-candy that only a custom ROM can provide.

Yes you can. Downgrade it to 0.83 and then use the Unrevoked method to gain root access.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
(sorry, I can't post links)
I had to do this when mine came back from HTC loaded with 0.92 after a repair, so can tell you it works perfectly.
try using this, a universal downgrader
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
worked for me bootloader 0.92

Nice i was about to ask the same thing...
The problem is when you say to downgrade from 0.92 to 0.83 it means that you will get 2.1...
Is there a way to maintain the 2.2 and root?
Or is there a way to root 2.1 and then install 2.2?

Can I flash stock Froyo RUU onto Vodafone Desire?

Desire is currently rooted and S-OFF'ed. Is it possible to "debrand" this way? Also this means I'll get the GB update (as I'm pretty sure VF won't release an update)
Thanks for any potential advice guys

Yes, you can. But you need goldcard to avoid cid error and furthermore, you will loose root access and s-off. So imho it is easier, to flash one of the many custom sense roms with gingerbread you can find here. On this way you won't loose root access and s-off status, but you will have a gingerbread sense rom (which is what you want I guess).
or is there a easy way to unroot? I rooted via unrevoked......

There is no easier way to unroot as flashing a ruu, imho.
Swyped from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
Ok so I guess if I flash the Voda RUU, the phone will have to do a few updates...... as the RUU is pretty old 2.1 I do believe...
if you instal the Vodafon RUU you will be branded again. And what is the point of unrooting? You can always find a rooted stock Rom, I am sure one will come out as soon as Gingerbread will be released.
And another problem would be if they release the update by IMEI and then if you are not at the original state of your phone you will not get the update even if not rooted.
True, best wait for a stock rooted ROM from here then and flash that via ROM manager

Please do not use rom manager, it is a horrible software which causes many heavy system problems here. Just do it directly from recovery.

If you wana stay stock, best just flash the rooted stock image which can be found in the dev section.
thanks...figured that would be the best thing, just wanted to ask to be sure
I followed these instructions and was fine. I prefer to keep my own ROM.

Yes its possible, I had the same.
Go to htcdev.com and unlock ur bootlaoder, no downgrade needed..instructions are there on the site as to how to unlock it.
Use gingerbreak or z4root or 1click root or any such tiny app and you will be rooted.
