Linux native on incredible now that we have s-off - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just like the title says, would it now be possible to run ubuntu...etc on our phones.
Also perhaps I misunderstood what I had read but are you able to run it native (i.e. fastboot it from the bootloader)

It appears it wont work with froyo, apparently the apps2sd feature of froyo prevents it. There is already a thread about this in development if u want to try and dig it up.

How to use porting tools?

I was wondering how to port to the incredible. I have windows 7, android sdk,apktool,smali/baksmali, and 7zip installed. I need to know how to use the tools mentioned and maybe some steps for porting. Modification of apk, jar, .xml, .so files are a must when porting,i just don't know how. Can someone please let me know, even if you want to pm then please do so. Thanks. Oh, afa what device I'd be porting from, not sure. Maybe from the desire or n1.

Maybe a Rom kitchen will help. I don't have much experience in this area.
It's no bother to people, I misread. rom kitchen sounds about right. you could always just try and theme the ROM you like..
Thanks for the response. What I really need is to know how to use the tools I mentioned. I have a basic overall knowledge of porting but am unsure of how to use the tools

Help

Can someone tell me why when I am on Cm7 I can't access my bank account online I keep getting a error from the website but when I'm on a sense Rom everything is fine
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Probably because it's a hacked rom, and with hacked rom's things dont work as they should...
There's nothing "hacked" about CyanogenMod.
OP, can you explain in greater detail what you mean when you say you can't access your bank account? Do you drop your phone when your trying to type your password every time you're on CyanogenMod? Do you get some sort of error message? Could you share the error message? It's hard to help when we don't know any details.

What I meant was, the rom is not designed to work on this phone, therefore with cm7 (or any rom) there are things that wont work.
When I try to sign in with my screen name it says error 78 please contact administrator but when I use myns or mikfroyo everything is gravy

[Q] Anyone use the Chase app on CM7 (or any other 2.3 ROM)?

It appears the QuickDeposit option (take a picture of the check to deposit it) doesn't appear on my app and I'm thinking it has to do with the fact that it might not work on a Gingerbread ROM.
Has anyone on GB used the Quick Deposit feature on the Chase app successfully?

Yes, used it successfully with both CM7 and Deck's version of GB.
You have to enable it in thru
chase.com

i have, been working just fine for me
How do you enable it i can't find the option on chase.com
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
You dont need to enable anything on chase.com. you just need to sign in and it will ask you to verify by typing in a code they will email you. After you do this once you wont have to do it again. Works on cm7 and any other rom.
Thanks for the help

This may work well in the dev section also, for now at least. More traffic over there.

It's GREAT to see that there are users that know this. One wouldn't believe how many posts we get like this in Dev that are immediately replied to with "RONG SEKTION, Q A PL0X"
Anyway, I believe you need to use abd during the install, not sure though and there are people that can explain it better than I can anyway. +1 for the idea though

I'm pretty sure you need to do an adb pull while the update runs. But, wait for someone more educated than I to give you further instruction, as I have no idea in hell how to do it
quick google search yielded this.

idk if it would work but you can try.
It sounds like root is needed. Her phone isn't rooted. Does anyone know of a way without root?

Found this in the desire forum. Would this work for the incredible as well?
The OTA .zip files which are downloaded from a Google server are not signed the same way as the RUU "rom.zip" files - they use the app .apk manifest signing method. (manifests and certs a la "jarsigner").
If you are interested in looking at the process that HTC/Verizon uses for the OTA updates, you can get the URL for the OTA zip the following way:
Run logcat on the pc and accept the update on the phone
$ adb logcat > logcat_accept.txt
This will sit like this (it continues to log output into the output file) until the phone reboots. At that point, the adb logcat job will terminate, and the name of the zip file will be indicated in the logfile in a message similar to:
W/SystemUpdateHelper( 64): !!! REBOOTING TO INSTALL /cache/desirec-ota-104882.7b1e5cca.zip !!!
Then, take the name of the file and paste it on the end of android.clients.google.com/updates/partner

Hulu App: G2 CM7

How do I get this app to work on my G2? I'm rooted and running CM7 2.3.7. I have an identical G2 with the same program on it running the same mod and hulu works on it. I would be using that phone but the volume button is broken so I had to root this one I have now to replace it. I don't understand why it runs on a rooted G2 before but doesn't on this new one I have. The only difference I see when I go to "About Phone" is the Baseband Version.
The baseband version on the one that works is 12.28h.60.140fU_26.06.02.27_M
The baseband version on the one that doesn't work is 12.22.60.09bU_26.02.01.15_M2
Is this a factor?
Is there a patch? A zip file of some sort or a work around Cyan has found to fix this?
What do you mean "work"? Are you not able to install it or run the app or watch shows? If you can't watch shows, it's probably because you need to have subscribed to Hulu Plus and then logged into the app.

In their defense, you didn't actually specify what was/wasn't happening; they were just trying to get intput in order to help you narrow down the problem/solution.

WOW ... sorry ... I don't know what I said but I didn't mean to offend you.
I've been looking around and there doesn't really seem to be a clear answer for those peoples issues with Hulu Plus.
One of the simplest fixes appears to be turning off any Ad-Block apps you have running. Make sure after you turned that app off that you reboot your phone at least once to make sure that the app is turned off.
A lot of the other fixes for Hulu appear to only be to play it through the browser.
