Camera defaults to store photos on internal memory - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HTC Desire US Cellular 2.1
Exactly what it says.
Camera defaults to store photos on internal memory. Why? It immediately takes up what little internal storage the device already has.
Is there anyway around it?
This phone launched with US Cellular only a few days ago, so I'm not sure if it's a known problem or not.
Thank you.

Problem solved. I had unmounted my SD Card and reformatted. After that, the camera started saving pics to my SD.

Desire HD - corrupt photos?

Hi guys,
Some of my photos on my Desire HD are becoming corrupted. I'm running the stock sense UI on Android 2.3 and using the native camera app. Ive replaced the SD card twice bit still having the same.problem. Its not all my photos, just some of them.
Anyone else having this problem? Anyone know how to fix it?
Thanks
Corrupt photo are in landscape mode? In my old samsung i solved this after rom deep reset
I had the same problem not only for photos but with videos too, but it was my sdcard faulty, i bought a sandisk 16gb, worked for a while and after 3 months started to go crazy. I putted back the stock samsung 8gb and the problem gone.
Try to reformat yout sdcard or try a different brand.
This happened on the original 8gb SD card, a 32gb sandisk card and now a 32gb Kingston card. All have been formatted but not changed the problem. Still not sure what is causing the problem.
Its one of 3 Problems (from least to worst)
1) HTCCamera.apk in your build has an inherent bug in it.
2) Your SD Card is wonky (Format it using a tool called "SD Formatter" - by the SD Standards Consortium)
3) (possibly the worst) Theres a problem with the camera module (hardware) in the phone itself.
it could also be that the SD drive itself is faulty. Try taking the card out and blowing a bit of compressed air into the slot, it might have accumulated dust or something
I had this issue a while back, reason then, was a faulty, crappy Kingston SD card. Once I replaced it with a SanDisk, I haven't had any issues ever since.

"Cannot write file in sd card." when shooting photos

Hi guys,
I've had my N7100 for 2 mouths and i was making photos and videos as normal , but one day i made a photo , the storage was set to the SD card , and then when i took it a message popped up on the screen saying "cannot write file in sd card. default storage is now changed to phone memory". If I make a video on to the SD card the Camera app just crashes, and doesn't save the video .Every time i set ste storage to SD card it does the same things.
I tried formatting the card and resetting the phone but it didn't help. I'm using the stock 4.1.1 rom.
If anyone knows how to solve the issue please let me know.
Thanks!
Still nothing ?
Here is a video I have made.

Hope someone knows how to help me .
Try to format it?

Sure , from the phone , from the PC i even tried formating it from my Sony camera. It is like this with every card i throw in it (8gd SDHC , 4gb SD and a 16gb SDHC ) I have tried everything and it's still like this
SanDisk are known for short life.

The card i shot the video with is a Kingston 16gb sdhc class 10.
I'm having the same issue
Hello everyone, sorry for bringing an old post to live.
But I think this was unanswered (sorry if it wasn't I haven't found the right post then)
I'm having the same issue, Camera app works just fine, but it won't save to micro SD, I recieve the same message shtepsel gets.
The SD memory seems to work fine, I can browse the files from the phone, and play music normally (wich is in the SD memory)
BUT and this seems to be related, the "Gallery" app won't let me scroll the pictures from the camera (saved in the SD).
Sooo... anyone solved this? XD
Any suggestions?
Shtepsel did you solved this, or just learn no live with it?
I lived with it for a few mouths. Then i bought a new SD and the message kept popping out. 2 weeks after I got the card I did a factory reset , and then all of a sudden the phone started saving photos and videos to the SD card. However I haven't got anything else on the card except the DCIM folder and a couple of .apk files.

Camera images never saved, disappeared from gallery.

To make a long story short, I took some irreplaceable pictures today that disappeared.
I have my camera saving to my 64gb memory card. I took a few pictures and a couple of panoramas and they ended up showing up glitchy and useless.
They didn't appear in the gallery with the exception of a few images.
It looked odd.
I rebooted the phone and tried to go into the gallery and they just weren't there. The previews showed up momentarily and then they vanished.
Now when I try to take a photo to go to my external memory, it works fine. It didn't pre-reboot.
Is there a method of:
A: Recovering my lost 10-15 images.
B: Ensuring that this doesn't happen in the future.
For the record, my card seems to be working fine. Music on it loads up quickly as well as any other images that I loaded onto it. Files open and there is zero lag. I don't suspect that the card is corrupted or anything.
Thanks guys.

You could try something like Recuva: https://www.piriform.com/recuva
I successfully used that to restore files deleted from microSD cards a few years back.

I'm unfortunately on a Mac. Guess I'll boot into boot camp and install it and give it a go.
I hope the pictures actually existed as files though and not some cached object.
Update:
Overnight, the saving issue arose again. I'm forced to use internal storage when using my camera.
I've seen this problem before. So SD cards don't work well with Samsung devices. I bought a Samsung SD card and never seem this problem again. I recommend you do the same.

I wish I wasn't broke :/
I'm using a SanDisk 64gb. Guess I've gotta dig up some cash and get a Samsung.
I don't see how this is an issue though.
What is your card formatted in? My current is in exfat. I'm thinking the format may be an issue.
It may be a kitkat issue. Google "kitkat SD card write". Root users are using a fix that sets permissions so the sd card can be written to by all apps as expected.

Right before I came across your post, I found some info on the kitkat issue with sd cards. I'm guessing that's what's causing this problem. Odd because it's the default Samsung camera that's messing up.
Oh, how I miss root. I just hope we get root soon. I'm pretty close to selling this phone and hopping on Tmobile.
I had this problem happen with very VERY irreplaceable pictures, on my backpacking trip to china, one of the most irreplaceable pictures of my entire life was taken, appeared glitchy in gallery, phone reset and it was gone.
after taking out the SD card, and doing many deep scans to try and recover the deleted pictures, it seems the pictures arent there, which leads me to believe it somehow tried to save it in internal memory (which cant be mounted as a drive, so cannot be recovered).
if you can somehow flash an older version of android (like 2.xx) you can mount your phone as a drive, and then attempt to recover deleted data from your internal SD..
yeah all i can say is ,,|,, you samsung.
I too have the same problems as the OP. And I am on SAMSUNG micro SD card! Guess it is one of those first batch gremlins?
However, I think the problem has gone away after I switch on the image "preview" option. Give it a try.
I had the same issue with a 64gGB SanDisk micro SD card. The camera would seem as if it was taking pictures but nothing was actually saved; they just shows as corrupted files in the gallery. I lost countless irreplaceable images from our honeymoon because of this. Once I switched to a 32GB Samsung micro SD card I never had the issue again, also saving the pictures directly to the internal memory solved the problem. I use the SD card for music as well so it has to be something with the phone writing to the SD card. From what I've read it's a issue with the compatability with samsung and non samsung sd cards for some reason.

Never had this issue with any of my Samsung phones (S2, S4, and now the Note 4). I'm using a SanDisk Class 10 32GB. I'd recommend pulling the files off the SD and doing a format. Download the App SD Maid as well for routine maintenance on your SD. Good luck.
My 64GB SanDisk SD card was giving unexpected unmounted errors, so I picked up a Samsung 64GB SD card. The unexpected unmount errors went away, but now I have this problem. Pictures are not saving to the SD card correctly. Sometimes it says media not found. Others the preview/thumbnail looks fine but the full view is just grey.
I am going to try saving to internal memory and manually moving to the SD card as I run out of room.

Missing storage space

So I'm using converted to GPE 16GB HCT One.
I have 32GB SD card and where possible apps load data to the SD (Google Music, Voice recorder etc.)
If you look at the picture I have 8GB available of internal storage but the graph shows less than 40% free (this does not add up)
Also why apps take internal storage if everything is cached to SD
Last time I had to factory reset because I have run out of storage for some reason and despite removing 3GB i was still low on storage.
Anyone can help?

look for an app called FolderMount in the play store
Thanks bit the app doesn't work for me. I don't have root
Moreover, I don't have any data stored from Google music or voice recorder on internal memory. It's all on the sd card and it still takes up the space of the internal storage.

Try the DiskUsage app from the play store. It will tell you EXACTLY what is stored on your phone and where it is. I use it myself. It's a great app to have.
Here is a link to the app.
none of this works
Again:
1. music and voice recordings are stored on micro sd card (they do not show up on the internal storage)
2. Google music and voice recorder data reports taking internal storage (see first screenshot)
3. using DiskUsage app there is nothing on the internal storage yet the graph shows less than 40% of 12GB avail (that would be around 4-5GB) but I have actually over 60% free which isnt expressed on the graps
So, somehow android is incorrectly reporting available storage, but then even if I remove something the graph still stays at the same level.

graps?
You do realize that the ROM is on internal storage as well, right? Sense based ROMs are around 1.5gb

Did you look at the photos and what I have been saying?
I'm running GPE stock (full convert)
Yes I know that from 16GB storage you get around 12GB usable due to OS installation and formatting.
Look at the graph again. you have 8GB free of 12GB available. The graph shows that only around 40% is available (8/12 is not 40%!!!!). If I cache music onto my micro SD card, for some reason that data is counted towards internal storage.

"Not enough space" on Galaxy Ace II

Hi guys. I tried to browse for answers regarding this issue, but I couldn't find anything that worked for me,
I've gotten to a point where any time I either download a single picture from Whatsapp or take a photograph with my phone, I get the "There's not enough space in your device memory". I discovered that neither deleting apps nor manually moving them to my external SD card had any effect on this. I have tried many kinds of apps that move your apps to the SD card, but it hasn't worked. I installed an SDK on my computer in order that the phone would install apps onto the external SD card by default. This didn't make the issue go away.
This is very frustrating. I have double checked every single folder inside "sdcard0" and there are no big files taking up space. I'm running on a stock, non-rooted 4.1.2.
I recently deleted around 300 - 400 pictures from my external SD card and the following time I connected the phone to my computer, I noticed the phone's memory had like 400 mb of free space that it didn't before (and yes, I was ABSOLUTELY sure those pictures where stored in my external SD). But just a couple of days after that, the space issue got even worse than before, saying that I had no memory left at all (it would usually display the message when I had like 69 mb left, if I remember correctly). Using Cleanmaster helps like 4 out of 10 times, but thanks to it, I've noticed that the phone is creating 3 Photo thumbnails files: two which are 520 mb in size (stored in DCIM) and another one called Gallery Thumbnails which is 1.02 GB. I suppose at least one thumbnails file is created automatically after deleting it, but I don't understand why I have 3.
I found a thread made by someone with the same issue, and someone suggested to uninstall all Google Play updates, or something like that. I did that, and it didn't work.
I hope you can help me find a solution, and I hope I'm not posting this in the wrong place. Thanks in advance.
Could you show us a screenshot of your storage in settings?
Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk
There you have all my storage information. The phone's not presenting the issue right now, and as you can see in USB storage, I have 500 mb of free space, but it's always like that: I have a lot of free space, and one or two days later I try to open a picture I just took or downloaded, and it says I have 0 mb left. I connect the phone to my PC and it shows the "phone" storage completely full.
What I don't understand is why it shows that I have 528 mb of pictures and videos in USB storage, when I'm 100% sure all that is stored in my external SD. Could it be that those 528 mb are actually a thumbnails file?
I am having the exact same problem! Running 4.1.2 firmware, this just recently started happening... I've reformatted the internal USB memory twice but the problem keeps reoccurring.
I try to get into the image gallery sometimes and it will say something like "You only have 50mb of space left, delete some files" and then it either forces me to quit or go into the file manager. But there are no pictures or video on my phone at all!
I've noticed that the DCIM folder on the internal memory was MASSIVE (600mb+ despite having no files whatsoever), so I connected it to my computer and manually deleted it and rebooted the phone, only to find that DCIM had replaced itself with a slightly smaller size (450mbs) and is continuously growing. Reformatting the USB every week or so is becoming a big hassle.
What's going on? Could the internal memory be fried? Is this a bug that can be fixed somehow? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
