downgrade from 2.2 OTA - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was at work and the damn "herp software update durp" notification kept coming up. Every time I hit install later the damn thing came back up ten mins later. Anyway, does anyone know of a way to downgrade from the 2.2 ota?

I have a write up on how to do it in the development section.

Checking updates doesn't work?

When I try to check the HTC Software Update tab on my phone it just says "Checking...." indefinitely. The latest one has been going for 15 minutes. It's been going this for 3 days. I'm running DamageControl if that has anything to do with anything.
Mine does the same on DC 3.2.3... Think we just have to use the firmware option.

K thanks
I think this was put in place to help prevent accidental OTA update taking away your root.

Froyo cellularsouth

Since froyo is released for cellularsouth, does this give us a ruu to flash back to?

So far it doesn't seem like they have released an RUU for this, only the OTA update. And I can't get Unrevoked to root it either. Kinda sucks, since they disabled the wifi hotspot feature, which was one of my main reasons for wanting the update!

[Q] 4.24.651.1 maintainence release

Has anyone heard anything about this update? I am wondering if this may be my chance to gain root access by waiting for a rooted version?
I "heard" one person...ONE that says he/she got the OTA. I'm not buying it. Oh well...just waiting for the rooted update, if in fact the OTA even went out.
Can I haz Netflix?
In another thread about the update http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132153
Some one says they called sprint and it was pulled due to bugs.

Hello I'm new here and I would like to ask if I should wait for someone to root the 4.22.651.2 or I should just download the new its the 4.24 and forget about rooting my EVO
So the golden rule is of course never take OTA updates. However, I look at it this way. Your already unrooted, and if they find an exploit were still looking at several weeks before it's released so why not see what the new firmware brings.
Im guessin now that this latest OTA is released things may progress, but what the heck do I know.
I got the update this morning.
So what happened? Is this a whole new ROM or just a patch?
i SAW, AND AS SURE AS SNOT IS SLIPPERY, DID NOT INSTALL TILL I KNOW WHAT IT DOES
way to thread necro mate!

{Q}, Rooting, Gingerbread, Froyo

Just about a week or two ago, I installed the new gingerbread update that Android pushed out, but I didn't know I wasn't suppose to if I wanted to root, is there anyway to get back to Froyo, I haven't did any rooting or flashing, or anything to the phone.
You can not as of now. Not to sound like a douche, but there is no less than 2 or 3 threads on this exact question. 95% of your questions have probably been answered somewhere on this forum, if you use the search button.
I too have a un-rooted Dinc2 that has GB on it and am patiently waiting for someone WAY smarter than me to find a way to root it. I can't stand the bloat
You could just be impatient and get a payg xtc clip. They're like 30 bucks.

That's what I did. But more like $50 with shipping and exchange rate. I don't know how much another credit costs though

Why don't you just factory reset... And it'll bring you back to Froyo-than you can S-Off and root your phone, and if you want GB just download the rooted, debloated deodexed OTA? :/
I'm not too sure about the Dinc2, seeing as how I came from Fascinate but with the GB-Froyo officially-a factory reset always reset it to the stock rom it shipped with.. which it SHOULD be the same to all android devices regardless of make. YMMV
Just a suggestion.

Sorry but that is incorrect advice on the HTC Android platform. Once you upgrade to a new ROM, that is the ROM that is restored when you do a factory reset. There is no permanent storage of the 'factory shipped' ROM.

How will we know when we get an OTA ICS?

I'm a little concerned. With everyone here rooted and on custom roms, noone will get the OTA update. That means we have to rely on outside sources for the availability of that update. That also means we will have to unroot/go back to stock to get the update. That just seams like a lot of wasted time. I'm going back to stock right know so I don't waste any time.
Then again, maybe it would be better to get it a couple hours after it is released. I mean with sprints network pushing all those updates at once.... waiting might even be faster.
From what i've seen most of the time the ota is leaked here before its released.

No that was not THE ota but an ota most of the leaks supported ota flash and we will know when the ICS kernel source is released and when you look at your phone and it says there is a firmware update lol
Lol i haven't received an ota on any device since i joined xda

You will know. It will be posted on BGR, Brief Mobile, Android Police, etc. Sprint usually lets the world know a few days before the OTA is sent. Chances are it is that it will be the last RDF that is posted before they announce.
On the old Epic the source was usually dropped the night before the OTA started. There's always someone lurking on stock and you get a topic on the forum stating "Have OTA notification can someone help me pull it?"
So, in conclusion, there's no cause for alarm.
Plus not everyone here is rooted. There are those that prefer unrooted stock. I can't imagine why but they exist

Seeing has how we've been waiting for months...and the E4GT is a popular phone I think you'll see something about it on every tech blog.

Rooting doesn't prevent the OTA from installing. Modifying or deleting system files with your root power is what causes the OTA to fail.
If you install the pre-rooted EL29 ODIN OneClick, the OTA will install file. It will disable your root, as all official OTAs do.
Won't our phones get the OTA notification regardless what build/ROM is installed?
Depends if the app that handles the updates was disabled/removed, never present, or still active.

Makes sense.
Do you know what app handles that and how to check and see if it's still in operation?
That was my thinking before too. When I first installed custom roms with ek02. I thought how I would have get the next OTA update. I just waited until the developer of the ROM i'm using updates it to the latest build. now I don't feel the need to accept any future OTA updats. Plus it will break root anyway, if you didn't change any system files. Might as well wait a few days and get the update with the ROM of your choice. you can always download the OTA update later on and install it manually if you want too. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I think it is System Updates, but might be Smart Device Manager.
The process to check for updates is distinct from the one that bugs you to install after it is downloaded. They may or may not be in the same app.
Why would you want the official OTA update when you can wait no more than a day and one of our amazing devs will have it rooted and ready to use like any other leak so far.

Oh trust me that's exactly what I'm going to do but was adding to the conversation for people truly curious and interested in receiving the OTA.
I don't see myself ever running plain old stock again. I'm too spoiled now. lol
