Hey I'm just wondering if anyone has successfully Rooted Stock 2.2 for the Incredible yet. From what I read, I think Unrevoked is currently working on a 1-Click Root method for the people that received their stock 2.2 update.
The only reason why I am asking is cause I've always wanted to install CyanogenMod's Rom on my phone, ever since I heard they were working on working all the bugs out and whatnot I've been wanting it on my phone.
From what I understand the latest build of Cyan includes 2.2 and is somewhat stable and only a few issues exist which are supposed to be easy fixes.
But in any case I guess my question points to two parties: Unrevoked and Cyanogen - I need one group to make a compatible Recovery and the other to make a compatible ROM and without the necessity to include the 2.2 update. For those of us that already have the official OTA.
I hope this isn't asking/expecting to much. Anyways if anyone has got any information on the progress of either project please let me know. Thank you!

Yes!!
did it the first day I got the 2.2 notice...here is a post...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771178
I am stock 2.2 rooted with unrevoked clockworkmod (manually) and S-OFF must be set....see link...
Oh...you can install a different room but get the device setup first but you will need S-OFF....very important...
Ya here's the problem with that method...I do not wish to downgrade. And I'm really against the whole wiping my phone idea cause even tho I know backup apps are available they never really restore the app fully and usually all the update links to the marketplace are cut. I'll just wait for the 1-Click method from unrevoked. Thanks for replying but you kinda missed my point. I wanted to ROOT and install the custom ROM with the stock OTA without having to downgrade cause I hated 2.1 with a passion.
Ya so I guess to simplify my question I'll just rephrase it:
Is it possible for me to use the CyanogenMod on my phone if I already have the stock 2.2 ota installed? And I think you just answered that question, because you said I would need to have the S-OFF first correct?
i'm rooted with 2.2 stock too!

Right now the only way to s-off is if you were rooted before 2.2. There is no root available for group yet. There is a guide to downgrade to 2.1 then root and s-off, but if you don't want to do that then you are stuck until they come out with a way to root 2.2.

Even tho I never really cared about S-Off all I wanted was to install the Custom Rom.

I'm at a loss, as I remember reading it but can't find it any where to verify. When Sprint releases 2.2 Aug 3rd, since I'm rooted I should NOT accept OTA or force it to update...or ever do it, right?
Sorry for the dumb question, just wanted to make sure!
You should not.
thanks for the quick reply!
hi im using unrevoked3, how do i go about updating to froyo 2.2 when it comes out OTA? thanks!!
you dont until someone here roots it.
And go ahead and get off unrevoked now. Do a full root and use a rooted rom even if its a stock rom. You will be happier in the end. There are several methods posted in the Dev forum. Just pick one that matches the sweet version your currently running or follow the instructions posted previously in this forum.
Actually, I don't recommend full root if you can get by without it. Full root permanently screws up your PRI, even after unrooting. Until its fixed, people should only do it if they absolutely need it. You can use an ota update, but you will lose root until someone finds a way to root 2.2. Also, you can flash one of the stock 2.2 roms that are rooted. They should work with unrevoked.

It doesn't screw up your PRI, it just makes it a lower version. For some people this causes lower speeds on 3G; others are fine. But yes, once you do NAND unlock your PRI is stuck like that until someone figures out a way to update it.
I think flashing a 2.2 ROM with unrevoked and expecting it to stay rooted is a risky thing to do. I wouldn't recommend it personally. That is, unless someone has tried it and it works.
Im new to this forum and I had a few questions about downgrading from the stock froyo 2.2 back down to 2.1, I installed it manually I was wondering if there is any way to do this?

As of right now there is no possible way. But give it time.
i'm looking to downgrade as well if anyone hears of anything!
I was reading about someone downgrading their nexus one froyo back to eclair using andoid sdk and some rooted sign file and a recovery file. Lucky nexus one users lol.
Anyone know anything about this?
if you want to downgrade then wait, it took a long time to root the last OTA.
If you want to upgrade and keep root, NEVER accept anything from sprint, only install from XDA or a similar forum.
The fact that this is an entire OS upgrade can either be a good or bad thing in how long it's going to take to root.
Look at it this way: If you could downgrade to 2.1, there would be no warnings or questions about how to root after flashing the 2.2 update. The answer would be "downgrade to 2.1 and root it like before."
But once 2.2 is rooted, you will most likely be able to flash a 2.1 stock or custom ROM if you wish. Just make sure you flash one that's pre-rooted.
Thanks for all the info guys, I wanted to downgrade to run cyanogen mod and overclock etc.
I would like to get the OTA update that comes out this days , but I cannot do that because the unrevoked block this option for me. when i try to update it wrote that my system is up tp date. Are there directions somewhere on how to do this for the unrevoked3 setup? Thanks.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771178
Try this. You're either condition 3 or condition 4. Very easy to do, you don't need to remove unrevoked forever (and if you want to keep root access you shouldn't.) to update to the official 2.2. Just use the official 2.2 RUU that's floating around on the boards.
wow it look to complicated to me...
is ther any chance that the unrevoked team will publish a patch for that that will install the 2.2 on the 2/1 unrevoked?
on any other One klick solition?
Help
Hey there to anyone who reads this post. I am stuck going crazy tonight. Long story made as short as possible. I am trying to down grade but none of the video's are working for me. I followed the youtube video to gain root access to my incredible however I guess I dont have clockwork which is necessary for me to go back to 2.1 so I can get everything right. Is there anyway to fix this so I can start over from scratch? My AIM is reddawn1563 and my email is [email protected] someone please help me. THanks Pat
This may sound stupid but why do people want to downgrade. You can upgrade to the official 2.2 right now with a rooted device. Whats the difference?
My problem is that I cannot get the clockwork recovery thing to work so I cant load any other roms or anything like that
Just load a 2.2 Rom and the updated radio, then you have everything the ota update provides and no hassle. It's literally the same thing.

hey guys.
did anybody know here how to make 2.3.3 ota update root, i have tried gingerbreak that doesnt working showing just black screen.
my phn is s-on, I do it coz it wont accepting OTA update.
is there any manual process to make it root via adb shell or something like that.?
i dont want to install custom roms i already checked so much of them but the are not fully bugs free and not fully google compatible as i want..
It is not possible. True, not all the ROMs work great, but some do. Try Android Revolution HD 5.1.6.
You have to downgrade first to get root, and then S-OFF if you want to flash custom ROMs.
You can also downgrade, root, get Radio S-OFF, unroot, get OTA again and use GingerBreak. Then you can have root in the latest HTC Gingerbread ROM.

OTA didn't came when radio is S-ON. thats y i did this..
Your phone is always S-ON when it is stock, so surely OTA will work then. And even when it is S-OFF, it does not matter if your /system partition is in stock condition (no root, no bloatware removed).
HTC have stopped Gingerbread OTA because of to many bug (To many have reported problem with SMS, WiFi a.l.). It will be released new version within few weeks when those thing is fixed. Ref HTC support
Thanks jkolko for the useful s-off & eng-off guides. Should anyone else find it an issue, note that if recovery cannot mount your sdcard, you should try another sdcard (found this elsewhere in the forums).
Hi, any app for downgrading? Honestly, not à "hero" when it comes to touching my phone, but would like root (at least to get rid of some stock apps).

To have root in 2.3 you need to use the downgrade guide to 1.32. Root and S-OFF and update to Gingerbread using 2.3 RUU. Then use Gingerbreak .apk to root. Now you have rooted S-OFFed Gingerbread 2.3

Updated to 2.3 from fully rooted 1.32 by RUU, installed AMT and now have su and full root Gingerbread AMT relay works, thanks to developer of script...
Hello Frendz,
The day before yesterday HTC sent an upgrade to the factory default OS (i.e. 2.2 froyo) on my DHD and I happily upgraded to 2.3 Gingerbread. Now, before updating I had permanent root access on my desire through Visionary but just after the update I realised I do not have root anymore. I would appreciate any comments and other experiences in this matter.
Also, during my own research I came across Gingerbreak which is probably the best around for rooting the 2.3 version but all I wanna ask is, if I still need to downgrade to gain root access or is it possible to directly use ginger break somehow? If I am not flashing another Rom, and all I want is Superuser rights.
As, I have never flashed any other find on to my DHD and I was using the stock interface since the start obviously with visionary root.
Also, whichever way I do it, I would loose all my contacts apps or we can avoid that. Can anybody please suggest any good (possibly free) backup app.
Tooo Long to read but any help and replies will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Anyone have any idea when Visionary or another One Click will work on a stock DHD running 2.3.3? I only want to root to get Set Cpu to improve my battery life.

Wow, that's a bold statement in tech lol
Any reason why this build will never be hacked when seemingly every other one is?
Not doubting yr word at all tho lol
Because it uses (as far as we know) pretty much flawless security measures that prevent us from doing much anything. Previously the devs found a way to go around the main security barrier after two months of trying, and now HTC blocked that security hole. As downgrading is possible, there are really not much interests to try and crack the new builds. Especially as it seems like a mission impossible.
....sigh.....
and since downgrading, gold cards etc etc is not my favorite, still waiting for a simple apk "for dummies", I guess I can forget to get to root mine.....
Those guides are really not so hard. Read them a couple of times, and if you still do not get it, ask your friend to do it. You can also join #AndroidRevolution IRC channel, somebody can hold your hand through the process. If I am logged in, make sure to send me a private message in IRC so I notice you.
thanks for the offer! will read again & probaply come back t you for help
Indian Desire HD
Apparently the Indian DHDs running 2.3.3 cannot be downgraded to root.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
You can install seraphic custom Rom if you like its just a stock Rom with stock kernel and root access. I love that Rom, closest to stock you can get on rooted DHDs IMO.
yes, it really sad that to say 2.37 OTA upgrade cannot be downgrade this time, I really want to downgrade or just root it :'(
nothing can do this time
Hi,
I just got my dhd back from repair and they updated it to 2.50.405.2 -.-
Is this downgradable yet to root ? I ****in hate standard roms
Please help..
Thanks
i think versions above 2.37 can't be downgraded yet.
i am waiting for downgrade of 2.42 as well. just wait
I to have 2.50.405.2 after repair.
I found rooted this version
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155634&highlight=2.50.405.2
But dont know will it help to change ROM.
If some one will find some solution please share it.
gingerbreak 1.2 not working with 2.50
Well, u need clockworkmod to flash it which u need rom manager for. And for rom manager u need root
I think we'll have to wait.. But the 2.37+ downgrade has been in development for about 2 months now.. Taking way to long
Probably waiting to see which bootloaders are unlocked, as promised.
Due out in September.

If u are S-OFF then u can downgrade to 2.36 by using the RUU version then root ur device,
edit:- i´ve done it more than 3times after updating from 2.36 to 2.50 "OTA" (believe me u can)
U can get the 2.36 ruu here:-

So,if i'm novice and i don't have s-off with 2.50 only thing i can do is wait for downgrade?is that right?

Thanks a lot ,,, Guide from JSLEnterprises was so amazing and very helpful
can't wait to get my new ROM !
Edit:
DONE!
DHD is now rooted with Radio and ENG S-OFF.
Thank you so much.
Now moving on to flash another rom, and try and figure the whole fing about the radio out..
I successfully downgraded and rooted my desire hd 2.42.415 at last. Thanks a million JSLEnterprises. You are awesome
Trivial Question
I have a trivial question, I am very interested in rooting using this method, however I have recently encountered an issue with my stock rom ever since I did the OTA update to 2.43.611.1 The issue is HTC Sence has stopped unexpectedly window pops up quite often & in talking to telus my provider & HTC them selves, they both say the phone needs to be repaired,
My question since I encountered the problem immediatly upon doing the OTA update should I get it repaired first or just try rooting to see if that fixes it.
Also if possible can I be pointed in the direction of how to return to stock Telus if I end up rooting & the probelm still persists?
My thanks to thoes who have diligently be working & involved in helping others & myself reach root status on higher Build numbers.
Great Work!

The reason you're getting the error after the ota update is the same reason why people get issues after installing custom roms and not wiping their device... the old cache and user data conflicts with the update.
Downgrading and then flashing a custom rom along with flashing an updated radio will remedy the problem. I dont believe you'll want to use the initial radio release, I highly recommend flashing the radio from the 2.52 korean release to your Telus DHD, along with the ril's from that release and replacing the ones in the rom you will flash via cwm recovery. ENG S-OFF is required to flash a new radio or recovery img.
Once you downgrade, you can always return to the stock 2.43.661.1 rom. There is a thread in the Desire HD/Inspire 4G Forum on Driphter.com where I've placed the RUU's of common builds (especially for Telus and AT&T). If returning the device for warranty purposes, you must Radio S-On prior to Installing the stock rom via the RUU. The RUU Itself will set ENG to SHIP, and unroot.
Excellent, Greatly appreciated.
Might try rooting as soon as tonight. Kind of excited to have a functional device again!
I am glad that it worked, i thought OH **** the other day, when i found out that i shouldn't have updated to 2.50, if i was about to root..
Big thanks to you JSL, nice work, and easy tuturial!!
I can see that in /HTC ACE TOOLKIT
is a splash screen changer, and a boot animation changer.. how do i use them?
Cheers guys I will try that downgrade guide. Just a note though. The file fize of the version of HTC Sync for the Desire HD I'm downloading is 66.6MB. I hope that isn't an omen for this to go horrendously wrong
