[Q] Unusable Droid Incredible - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone. I really need some help here. I had rooted my friends Incredible a while ago. When the 2.2 OTA update came out, he manually upgraded to it. Now, hardly anything works. The phone is always force closing 'System' and it reboots every 5-10 minutes. I doesn't detect that it's plugged in via USB for I can't use ADB to downgrade.
Unfortunately, he didn't do a Nandroid backup, so I can't just revert back using that. Currently, HBOOT is at 0.79.0000 and the radio is at 1.00.03.04.06.
So, to clarify:
Root 2.1 --> OTA 2.2
Now the phone locks up and restarts and only the web browser seems to really work.
Can any of you help me or possibly provide a blank Nandroid recovery image? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks,

your radio image suggests the 2.2 update wasn't installed correctly. somewhere in the forums is a .img file to downgrade back to stock 2.1, as in the day you opened the DINC out of the box. That should fix your problem. I actually think I have the file.

I've tried searching the forum and I can't find the img. Can you point me to where I can get it? Also, I tried running the HBOOT update with PB31IMG.zip in the root of my FAT32 SD card but it never asked me if I wanted to update.

So to clarify he's on 2.2 with a 1.X radio? If that's the case that's your problem right there. Upgrade your radio to 2.15 and see how things go for you then.

I'll try that now.

Yeah, 2.2 should have a radio Baseband of 2.15. But I would just back up to a fresh 2.1 stock and go from there.
Fresh 2.1 stock (will wipe phone):
forum xda-developers com/showthread.php?t=757927
Then install the small OTA update:
unrevoked com/incredible/ota.zip
Then you will be fully ready to install 2.2 with no problems. Sorry my links are funky, I'm a new user and it won't let me post links yet. Hope this helps!

That worked great. Thanks so much.

[Q] Flashing radios, kernels, firmware after unrevoked forever

I've been reading through the forums since the release of unrevoked forever... Flashed it, I'm s-off and running. I was going to hold off until OTA released, but got bored today and decided to mess around with all of this now.
So today I flashed the 2.15 radio that was leaked to the board. After that, I installed SkyRaider 2.5.2 from Clockwork in recovery, which I believe also flashed a new kernel.
My question is... since unrevoked forever and s-off, I can flash between pretty much anything without issue, right?
I found a stock 1.00.03.04.06 radio flash file on here as well. So I restored back to stock 2.1, and then put the 1.00 stock radio on the root of SD card, booted into HBOOT and it flashed back the stock radio.
Is there any issues with doing this? I got excited to be back on Froyo (did this weeks ago with another version of SkyRaider, the leaked OTA, etc... But then went completely back to stock with RUU, re-rooted, etc)... I just want to make sure that doing this isn't going to cause any issues. I would assume at this point, with s-off, it doesn't matter... But, don't want to mess up the phone.
Also - Can someone on stock 2.1 who is also waiting for OTA confirm my versions?
Firmware - 2.1-update1
Baseband - 1.00.03.04.06
Kernel - 2.6.29-cc1c2268, [email protected] #1
Software - 1.22.605.2
I know from the unrevoked wiki they say that running different hboots, radios and kernels might result in an unstable phone.
Thanks.
If I'm reading this correctly it sounds like you bravely accomplished something that everyone has been speculating and wondering about since Forever was released: Downgrading a radio by simply flashing it.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think most were afraid to try it for fear of bricking.

Yes I would like to know also, are you saying that while being 2.2 with 2.15 radio you loaded the 1.x radio img and just flashed it in Hboot? Or did you go through the RUU downgrading method?
Haha... I didn't realize I was being brave. I thought I was just following what everyone else did.
My process was.... On 2.1 update 1 with 1.00 radio... I then flashed the 2.15 radio using HBOOT. It started fine, checked and saw 2.1 update 1 with the 2.15 radio. Booted into Clockwork and did an install of SkyRaider 2.5.2. That was running just fine... But I decided that I wanted to go back "stock" and would wait for 2.2 OTA.
So with that, I found the radio and recovery from on http://adrynalyne.us/. That zip contains just the radio image and recovery (radio 1.00). So with that, I did a restore in Clockwork back to my backup of stock 2.1... Shut down after it restored, booted into HBOOT with that zip of 1.00 radio from the adrynalyne website and it restored back to 1.00 radio.
I did not RUU or anything else. My understanding of s-off was that we could flash pieces one at a time without running into issues... That included radio, kernels, etc.
Everything seems to be running just fine from yesterday through today.

So maybe you just made history because I've been trying like hell to get out of someone whether that was possible? From that point you could I guess flash the ota to take you to 2.0 if you wanted? I am not interested in going back to 1.x but maybe 2.0
The following post seems to say the same thing (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7692494&postcount=190)

here's what i did:
my brother has a DInc as well so he let me use his phone to mount my microSD card. I removed the 2.15 radio and put on the stock one 1.00.03.04.06 back on the root of my microSD. put my microSD back in my phone booted holding down volume and power. installed the downgraded version and phone is working again.

I can't confirm re-installing the leaked OTA that upgrades you to 2.0 radio... But I don't see why it wouldn't work.
I seem to remember a post that warned about constantly flashing radios when s-off first came out though.
I have a new post on the 2.15 radio thread in the development forum for more clarification about going from 2.15 to 1.00, etc.

[Q] Internal speaker not working with 2.2 RUU

Anybody ever hear anything on a fix for this? The RUU for "real" 2.2 ran and put 2.15 on, which now seems impossible to remove. I have downgraded the radio before to fix this problem, but the radio included in the RUU won't downgrade using any of the previous methods.
The only difference from previous upgrades is that the clockworkmod recovery has been upgraded from 2.5.0.1 to 2.5.0.5 before this install.
NEVERMIND! POSTED IN WRONG AREA... APOLOGIES
Moved you over to Q&A buddy.
Best of luck!
No known fix yet, other than going back to stock 2.1. VZW's only solution is to replace it, same with HTC. Apparently some devices don't like 2.2 enough to allow the speaker to work, so its either stay with 2.1 or get a new one. I had this issue with leaked OTA, RUU, and even the official, from VZW OTA update.

I have the same problem with the official OTA. I accepted the update with everything stock (except for S-OFF) and then re-rooted via reinstalling clockworkmod. I have not been able to get the internal speaker working since then.
Am I SOL on returning this thing because I have S-OFF?

Need to re-flash stock 2.2

Hopefully you guys can help me, you haven't let me down yet
I am having problems sending/recieving mms messages. I called verizon and they have opened a support case after not being able to fix the problem.
I keep thinking I may have taken off something I shouldn't have with system app remover...
I am currently running the stock OTA 2.2 rooted with S-off, and the Hboot bootloader.
I want to flash the stock 2.2 back to the phone and see if that clears up my problem, but I'm not entirely sure what steps i'll need to take.
I've downloaded the RUU from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765596&page=34, can I just hook up the Dinc to my computer and run the RUU to flash my phone back?
Can I just use the factory reset option from the recovery screen?
What would you suggest?
Thanks in advance!
Im having the same problem receiving picture messages im running redemption 2.0.4, please keep me updated if flashing the stock 2.2 helps
I used this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765596) last night to get to stock 2.2 with the latest radio. Than I rooted with the latest unrevoked. I would use appbrain or titanimun to back up your apps first.

I'm not using a custom rom, just the stock vzw update that was posted in other threads/distributed OTA
But yes, I flashed the rom to my phone last night and was able to keep root/bootloader/etc...plus it solved the problem!

Issue upgrading a rooted evo from 2.2 to 2.3

Ok let start by getting a few things out of the way.
1 I'm sorta a Noob ok kick me crack a joke or two I don't care as long as you help
2. I have Htc evo of course running stock 2.2 (baseband ver 2.15.00.11.19)
Kernel ver 2.6.32.17-gee557fd htc-kernel and18-2 #15) (S-ON)
Radio-2.15.00.11.19 and I'm using a Mac (if that help)
3. I rooted it using the unrevoked method.
The device works fine but bit I'm having a big issue trying to upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3.
I have been trying to unroot the phone so that I can update OTA.
But no matter how many times I try to unroot it my super user is still there
I would rather flash the phone to a 2.3 GB rom thats 2.3 with sense 2.1 or 3.0.
I've tried this the method found on youtube using the s-on and dropping the image file (zip) on the sd card and flashing it
by making sure you install the (s-on) patch
and re-flashing the RUU (PC36IMG).
but when I did that it said that i was re-flashing a old version.. so I found a newer version.
But when I drop it on my SD card as (PC36IMG.zip) it reads it, checks it then... takes me right back to the Hbot screen like nothing never happen!!!
I've been working on this for 3 days I've even tried restoring and everything.
I've been searching online for answers but I can't find anything that helps either its not up to date or just flat out dont work.
at the end of the day i just want a damn evo running BG 2.3 sense 2.1 or 3.0 would be nice.

oh by the way when i try to run the OTA it reboots startes to load get about 35% then goes to the exclamation mark / triangle.
I'm out of options please help me out! I've searched and read on for about 3 days now.
please either help flash the device to a stable working 2.3 with sense 2.1-3 or un root it so i can update it ota and re root it again...

Wow man, between the general and q&a sections there are seven threads dealing with this very topic. Yet you couldn't find any of them?
If you want to unroot and take the ota you will need to flash the s-on update and run the 3.70 ruu to unroot. Once you do that you'll be completely unrooted and like new. Then just take the update and it should go through without any issues. If, however, your bootloader shows a firmware version higher than 3.70 and you are s-on then I'm sorry to say you are stuck like that.

I've dont that and i still can not remove the root
You'll need to flash the PC36IMG through fastboot to see what's going wrong with it then. To do that download the AutoRoot tools zip and the PC36IMG_3.70.651.1.zip from the link below. Once you have them both unzip the tools folder and place the PC36IMG in it, then run the FlashZip script and tell it to flash the 3.70.651.1 zip
It should flash ok but if not it'll give you an error message saying what went wrong with it. Keep in mind you're going to be completely unrooted if your bootloader shows S-ON.

What HBoot do you have... I think just flashing one of the stock GB roms probably would of been easier just my opinion....

i just found a ruu for 3.70.651.1 ... installing so far so good
You do realize that you'll lose root until a new method is found, correct? If you want to stay rooted, you need to reroot, then flash the stock rooted 2.3 rom.
If you want a newer version of Sense, you'll be outta luck there too - the new update is same ol' Sense 1.0.
Just making sure you realize this, since so many people are whining about not being able to root the OTA and being stuck with the uneventful update.

hey guys i got it working thanks for your help!!!!

[Q] Random OTA ruined my phone

my Incredible 2 had been running the Magnolia Beta for the past few months with no issues, until this weekend. It suddenly started to download an update from verizon, but since my phone was obviously rooted this ended badly. In short i was forced to roll back to froyo (2.2.1) but could not manage to change s-off back, so i cannot upgrade back to gingerbread. anybody that can help me out here would be greatly appreciated. at this point i would just be happy to be able to run the most current firmware.
Thanks

What all have you tried?
Have you tried to flash the 2.3.3 RUU through HBOOT?
Can you root your 2.2.1 if so then you can just flash custom rom again and update kernel.
I've tried the RUU, but that hasnt been working, adb wont recognize my phone, no matter the settings. Could I load the RUU through the phone without adb?
I havent been able to find any tool to root 2.2.1, because Revolutionary was updated to only Gingerbread.
EDIT: Just loaded the 2.3.3 RUU, which actually worked. Can i just root with revolutionary now? Or should i take other steps before that?
Just root with revolutionary and get to flashing.
