com.android.browser keeps force closing - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so after I recieved the OTA Froyo 2.2 on my phone this morning I installed it. Than after that the com.android.browser keeps force closing and if there is a way to fix this without me having to root my phone that would be helpful

I've had the same problem since updating my phone to 2.2 last night. Somehow clearing all data for that program fixes the issue.
In this case, Go to Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All > scroll down to Internet > Clear data.
This worked for me... and I found the answer on the HTC forums:

[Q] incompatible with your phone.. marketplace apps

hi all
Since this morning i have noticed that all of a sudden quite a lot of apps are no longer able to be downloaded from the marketplace... it just says for apps like Facebook and Google Maps, "This app is incompatible with your 3 Samsung GT-I9100."
Is this a carrier issue? or an Android Marketplace issue?
It's the same whichever ROM i am using at the moment... it was fine yesterday but since then... a no-go.
I have tried using market enabler... nothing...
Downloading from Laptop (via Marketplace in browser) .... same problem...
Any ideas?
I'm getting this with some apps to.

Hi there,
Thanks for writing in to me today. I apologize if you're having some download issues with Android Market today. I don't know of any specific issues that may be causing the problems you may be having. Let's do the following troubleshooting steps to fix it:
- Cancel and restart the download(s)
- Reboot your device
- Sign in and out of Google Talk repeatedly to restore connection to our servers:
1. Go to your device’s app launcher, and press the Talk app
2. If you’re already signed into Talk, press Menu, and then touch Sign out
3. Launch Talk again to sign in (if you are unable to sign in, please let me know)
- Clear your Market cache and data (Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All tab > Market > Clear cache and Clear data)
- Ensure there is at least 20MB of free space on your device
- Try your download(s) using both WiFi and network (3G/4G) connections
- Try to initiate your download from the Web (market.android.com) instead of the device
- Confirm that there is strong connectivity on your device, and contact your mobile service provider if you aren't connected
- Uninstall Market updates by visiting:
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications> All tab > Market > Uninstall updates
If none of these steps resolve the issue, please let me know, and I will continue to investigate the problem - any other detail you can provide about the issue and how/when it occurs will be extremely helpful.
Best regards,
Jim

I can download some apps fine... But all of a sudden a vast number are suddenly not compatible with my device... I.e. Facebook and google maps. It also states it is incompatible when attempting to download from my desktop.
These apps were compatible yesterday but now they are not.
Nothing has changed on my device
Can you help?
Thanks

Hello again,
Thanks for writing back. I don't see any reason why those apps would now be showing up as incompatible on your Galaxy. Is this a new Galaxy device for you? I see it being registered with your account today for the first time, but no previous entries for a Galaxy S II device on your [email protected] account. The last device on your account I see before the Galaxy is an HTC HD2.
You mentioned you performed a factory data reset before this issue starting occurring. It's possible something didn't go quite right with that. I recommend you perform a factory reset one more time on your device if possible. Please note that this will reset your device to its original state. While your media content (photos, music, etc.) will not be deleted from the SD card, applications and their related data will be uninstalled.
Before the factory reset, make sure that your contacts are synced to your Google account by logging into Gmail from a computer and verifying if your contacts appear there. If your contacts are not synced, then I recommend updating your sync settings at Settings > Accounts and Sync and choosing either AutoSync or touching the account you would like to sync and choosing "Sync Contacts."
Along with syncing contacts, please back up any important application data and/or settings by navigating to Settings > Privacy and selecting "Back up my data'"and "Automatic restore."
To perform a factory reset:
1) Go to Home > Menu > Settings > Privacy (or Phone storage; depends on the device)
2) Press "Factory data reset"
3) Press "Reset phone" (or "Reset tablet")
After you perform the factory reset, make sure you sign into your device with the same primary Google Account you were using before. If this doesn't resolve the issue, please let me know so I can continue to investigate. Have a great day!
Regards,
Jim

Hi, did you ever fix this? My phone is in the same state. No Facebook, no Google maps, and most other apps wont install - "This app is incompatible with your 3 Samsung GT-I9100."
I had the same problem, but my problem was due to changed DPI settings in my SGS2.
I had it on 222 and 225 but Market did not work, put back 240 on DPI and it works.
Market doesn't like multi DPI it seems :-(
Thank you - that's exactly what it was. When I set it back to 240 I had 34 market updates available. Probably is why a change of DPI is not practical on the SGS2.
Thank you again
Use old market and everything works fine
Send from my HyperDroid using Tapatalk
Every time I change the DPI using root explorer It gets back to original 230
any idea??
I need to change it coz half of my apps aren't working because of this issue I believe
n I tried the umount SD thing it didn't work for me
My rom is the Resurrection Remix ics Rom v9.1 Ultimate XXLB 4.0.3 Full-Wipe
n I tell ya it's coooooooooooool except for this bug

Isnt the default dpi 240??
Anyways... I didnt use the root explorer method... I just use this...
ROM Toolbox Lite from Google Play
Performance>build.prop Tweaks> LCD Density
Apparently, the above mentioned solution didnt help me either... I would just change back to default dpi... Wait a while... Update my apps... Then change it back... Troublesome... But its worth it i guess... FYI, im on foxhound ROM and i set my dpi at 182...

[Q] Google Device Manager not working after update

Since the Update to 1.1 , after reinstalling GAPPS my FP isnt shown in the Device-Manager
i can see it in the Browser unter My Devices but not in the Device-Manager.
Other users told me that it was visible bevore the Update but neither it was possible to get the location of the FP nor to let it ring from remote.
Are there any workarounds, or solutions for this issue?

I managed to solve this by resetting Google Play Services...
Go to System > Settings > Apps > All > Google Play Services
Disable
Uninstall Updates (go ahead with deactivating as Device Manager)
Uninstall updates (again!)
Force Stop
Disable
Clear cache
It takes many steps to disable this thing
Now you can Enable it back.
You should have a Notification saying "App application requires updating google play services", or simply open this link on your device
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.gms and update
For the following final steps, check the Help pages if you don't want to provide google with too much information
Open the newly updated Google Play Services and enable stuff you need under the Andrdoid Device Manager subsection.
Verify if Location > Access location is enabled...
Hope that works for you, it did for me!

The only steps for me were:
- Uninstall updates
- Disable
- Delete data
- Re-enable
- Update
Now it works again Thanks

for me too Thx!
After the update to 1.6 the Problem came back but now i cant close Google Play Services because when i want to , it says that it is impossible to Uninstall Play Services because it is an active Device-Administrator..
can anyone confirm this issue or even provide a solution?
thx
I can still locate my device after the upgrade.I also applied the partitioning update, so this may be due my phone losing all its data as part of the upgrade process.
Strangely enough, Play Services is not a Device-Administrator on my phone, nor is asking to be one. Can you revoke Device-Administrator status via Settings>Security>Device administrators?
i did the repartitioning too and now it seems to work

[Q] Help Needed @@

Well i am using a LG G3 F400S version. I had a little problem with the Google playstore. When my LTE is on i had trouble downloading from Playstore. I get this error 489. I tried clearing the cache on playstore n the firmware at the app setting. When i restart i still get error, but when i am using Wifi i had no problem in downloading it. Anyone can help me with this issue. By the way this only happens on Playstore. I use the browser for surfing , FB or any online it has no problem, only with the Playstore.
The Code 489 means the following:
1. You have errors
2. The registry may be infected with spyware or viruses
To fix this problem you need to install Registry clean up
app. There are many registry clean up apps are available
that will fix your problem. But most of them are not working
properly.
You should apply following things also
1. Clean up your all history from your browser
2. Clean uo login data from your Galaxy III
“Go to settings->apps->all and scroll down to 'google play store' and ‘clear data’ then scroll down to ‘google services framework’ and ‘clear data’ then reboot you’re phone and that’s it enjoy.”
If that doesn't work, you can Remove the google account > restart your phone > re-add the account, to remove your google account you go to Settings > accounts > google > select the account > delete.
Hope this is of some help to you?

How to make google apps work again after 028s update (no root required/no twrp requir

Hi there,
I saw that a lots of people are having google rh-01 error after they did the ota update so i'm going to show you guys how to make it work again. This tutorial can also help for other problems related to google apps crashing for leeco mobile. Also this tutorial fix the problem of not being able to use the 3 home buttons under your screen since sometimes they got glitched because of play service crashes.
First of all you need to go in
System settings>App management > clear the cache for all the google app we going to delete by going in storage and delete all the google apps, such as :
Google play store
Google play service
Google account manager
Google service framework
And any other app that is crashing because of the 028s update, you can reinstall all of them through the play store after it is working again.
After having it done please reboot your phone and go in the Lestore app which is in chineese but dont worry i will try to show u in picture what to do.
1- Start Lestore app and follow everything i have said in the uploaded pictures of this post or if you have trouble you can do what this guy is doing, it's the same :
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8VU270w99bA
[1bis - between the 3th and 4th picture you can add your google account by going in
System setting > Account > press Add account and press google.].
2- Now you should have everything working again, only one last thing remain , be sure that when you go in :
System setting > App management > Google play service > Permissions > Make sure everything is activated.
System setting> App management > Google play store > Permissions > Make sure everything is activated.
I hope this is going to help you if you guys have any further questions let me know.

What are the practices you talking about ?
If you are talking about the ads added in phone manager with the new release you can disable them by going in
System settings > Press on " Dual sim & mobile network" > press "data management" > press "connection control" > now disable wifi and mobile data for the phone manager app.
Or simply choose to download an app like adguard or adaway or any other similar app to block ads.
LeStore does not connect.
I was able to connect using a china VPN.

How to disable stock rom updates without root?

So i got A29 build and i dont want any updates. I have turned of aito night update, i have turned off auto system update in developer options but i still keep getting proposals to install an update like twice a day. That is annoying. How can i kill an app so taht would stop bugging me? Thanks!
I am sure I do not know the best ways, but here are the ways I have written down so far (I too, never want any updates). Looks like 1,2 and 3 require no root, and 6 is just a good point to remember:
1 - check "Software Update" screen: (Settings > Software Update)
2 - check “Automatic system updates” screen:
a - Settings > About Phone > Software Information > tap "Buld Number" 7 to 10 times to enable "Developer Mode"
b - Settings > Developer options > Automatic system updates
3 - purchase and sideload the Package Disabler Pro app (disables OTA forever)
4 - on AmazonKindle, deleting the /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip will prevent updates since their signatures can't be verified by the device
5 - chown root and chmod 755 the /cache partition can do the same as above (but will it affect recovery?)
6 - while you work on a phone to disable the updates, do not forget not to insert a SIM and not to connect to WiFi, untill the OTA is fully blocked / disabled.
As for how to get rid of the NAG about the updates already downloaded and waiting for the installation, i THINK you might want to wipe cache? Because that's where they are stored while waiting?
It is good that you do not have the A/B system device, where the damn updates are installed on the fly!
If nothing works, this is why I always need root. Because the manufacturer pushes me to, leaves me no way out to just peacefully coexist, they just have to force feed their updates to us. Good luck bro.
