Help with .thumbnail cache folder!! - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Android Development

Is there a way to hide the cache folder (.thumbnail) from appearing in the gallery?
It makes it impossible to find what I want with the hundreds of graphics used by apps on my phone appearing in the gallery.
I tried to delete it, but seeing as it's a cache it re-creates itself whenever an application launches. Really annoying as it caches images from Facebook and Twitter of people I don't want on my phone.

Click to collapse
Navigate to the gallery tab.
Click on 'Albums'
Click on 'Albums' again
Select '100Media' (This is the photo directory on my phone)
Click 'Menu'
Click 'Set Album as Favorite'
Click 'OK'
This should take care of your problem!

How do I make photos show up in Photos and Gallery?

HTC's Photos app doesn't show the photos on my SD card and neither does Gallery (the cooliris Nexus One app ported to Incredible). How do I get photos to show up? Arr, it's driving me nuts!
Edit: SOLVED, see below.

I fixed this using the free "Gallery Enabler" app from the Market. I definitely recommend it!

I tried that app and thought it was great too, until I couldn't find any of my music playlists.
I think it hides folders from other applications besides Photos.
If you have problems, open gallery enabler and check all folders before you un-install it.
Then the right way to fix it is to open the Photos app on the phone, clck on the menu button and select "Settings" and then "Default Albums" then select the options you want from there.
If you're wondering how this application works, it probably just deletes/adds the hidden .nomedia files from folders. Those files restrict applications from having access to the media by signaling the android media scanner to ignore them. For instance, if you put one in the root of your sd card, the system would ignore any media on your entire card.
In theory, it's a great idea.
The problem is that all of my music is organized in folders and each folder contains the album art for the album.
So blocking the folder with the album art so that it does not show up in the gallery also blocks the music file from different media applications.

Ah, you're definitely right. All my music stopped showing up. However, once I went back and enabled all the folders and applied settings in Gallery Enabler all my music showed up again and the photos were still fixed. I suppose you could use Gallery Enabler once to "force" Gallery and Photos to see all the folders.
Changing default albums in HTC's Photos app did nothing to make media show up again. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Un-installing gallery enabler brought my music back but not the playlists, I had to manually re-build all of my playlists again.

Can i hide elements in Gallery?

Hello,
I have TomTom . How can i hide the images folder in the app Gallery?
create a file called ".nomedia" in the folder you want to hide.
it may not work right away if the folder is already recorded by the media scanner.
if that happens wipe data for the "media storage" app (only visible under settings>application manager>all) and reboot your phone to force a complete rescan of all your folders.
Or you can download Quickpic, which isn't airview enabled but will let you switch galleries on and off as you wish.
It also fills the screen with your images and doesn't waste half the screen with a sidebar, like the stock gallery.

Use Vault, it encrypts your Videos, Pics, SMS, and Contacts I guess and then you can just uninstall it until you want your files install it and view them you don't have to restore them to view them, vault will not delete your encrypted data if uninstalled ofc. Its perfect for me I use it to hide my family's videos and photos.

Gallery

Whenever I open the gallery, all of the artwork from my mp3s is mixed in with the my pictures. This makes it next to impossible to find something quickly. Is there an easy way to organize them out or hide them without clicking each individual picture? This seems very dumb. My iphone, nor any other phone I've ever used does this. Thoughts?
In your music folder, put an empty text file with the filename 'nomedia' (without the quotation marks and file extention). Then in settings > apps > gallery , select clear data.

Sorry for being dense, but the hierarchical structure you listed doesn't work.
Did you mean setting>general(tab)>apps?....if so "gallery" isn't listed there. If I go into gallery and try to move the photos, it just randomly moves them around.....no labels or anything. I don't understand. Do I need to go into my windows explorer on my pc to adjust the folders?....that seems dumb that you can't easily do it from the phone.

It normally has to be done on the computer I believe but it might not let the android media scanner find your music or use the pictures for album artwork. I honestly I just use QuickPic and it has the options to hide(.no media) and exclude folders and I just select exclude folders from my main music folder so it doesn't include them.

Hi!
Yes i meant setting>general(tab)>apps. Under apps if you scroll horizontally u will find gallery under 'ALL' tab.
In order to move files, folders or any other operation to a file or folder, you need to use a file manager app. There are different file managers available for android. Personally i use ES file manager. A pretty good app called just File Manager is already there in G Pro. You can use it to manage your folders.
As jesi.james above pointed out putting the .nomedia (sorry i missed the '.' before nomedia in my previous post) file in your music folder will hide the album arts from the gallery but it will hide the music files from the music player as well. I am sorry i wasnt aware of that. i do not store my music on my phone. I listen to it from play music.
To solve your problem, i found that there is an option in the gallery menu to hide/show albums. You can choose the albumd you do not want to see in your gallery. If you have a large music collection, you will have to select the albums one by one. Frustrating.
Next option is to use Quickpic. This is a very good alternative to the default gallery and it gives you options to select folders you want show or hide in quickpic as mentioned by the guy above.

Super Stupid Question: How do I use the Gallery app?

Yes, ive searched, nothing I've found has helped.
Normally I'd just ignore the app, but unfortunately I don't have a choice as its the only way to get a custom lock screen, as far as I can tell. My problem is basically just the threadbare options menu. I don't see any way to prevent it from displaying Picasa Web albums (yeah, sync is diabled) in the app itself, and the Gallery app isn't listed in the app management settings, so I can't clear the cache.
So if someone could point out to me how to clear the cache and to add images that are already on the SD card to the gallery, I'd appreciate it greatly.
Are you talking about gallery? Showing Picasa albums? In gallery click menu then click content to display 5 hen deselect your Picasa and dropbox. go into settings and application manager. Swipe left until you see all apps. Go to gallery and click clear data and cache then reboot all thumbnails will.
Oops did that backwards kill data and cache then go into gallery.

Thanks! There was nothing in the UI to indicate there were different columns of apps, so I had no idea I could swipe to see more.

Missing icons

Hi guys,
I just got my g3 and something really strange happened.
I had the google folder on my homescreen and then deleted it, when i go into my apps i can't see the apps that were in that google folder.
I have to goto the playstore and open gmail from there. Is there any way i can get my icons back from the folder i deleted?
Just before anyone mentions, my apps aren't hidden. They're just gone
Those are just doors to your apps, you deleted the doors.
Just long press on your screen and a dialog will Pop up, go to apps and browse to the one you want, touch it and it should go to your screen.
Yup i know about that also...
I like to have a clean desktop...therefore i use the apps key all the time and access my apps from there.
Is there another way of getting my icons back to where all my other apps are?
