[Q] Call Answer Lag/Delay - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
For long time i'm having some issue with calls voice.
Sometimes when i answer a call, i can hear the caller but he cant hear me for the first 5~ sec.
After that time (5~ sec) everything continue just as regular.
The issue is with me trough few Roms and Radio's.
Currently i'm with LeeDroid 2.0a and latest radio. non branded phone.
Anyone saw same ?

Bump

This sounds more like a problem with your provider (the phone company). Try finding a friend with a different company SIM, put it in your phone and see what happens: call people on your own provider, other providers, landlines, etc. assuming you know who is using what.
PS Since you rooted it, I assume you have also unlocked it if that was necessary, or maybe that comes for free, I really don't know, I bought mine unlocked
PS2 Putting a SIM in another phone may have the side effect of modifying some of its data (e.g. truncating contact names if they are too long for the new phone, deletion of non-standard data such as Calendar info). I don't know how the Desire behaves in this respect.

Hi,
A. I have SIMFREE device
B. Same provider worked like charm for 11 years now with every other phone.
C. I've saw some topics about same issue, just no one came to solution.

Missed Calls on the HTC Desire

I've had a few reports of people telling me that I never answer my phone and it just rings and goes to voicemail.
Last night a friend called me to test this theory and it went straight to voicemail. It seems that 90% of my calls come through fine but the occasional one doesn't!
I've been testing it a lot in the last 12 hours and I can't seem to recreate the problem - I'm not sure if the cellular radio within the phone is hanging if it hasn't been used for a while?
Anyway - anyone else had this?
What kind of signal are you getting when occurs? (G, E, 3G, H etc)
If you are only receiving a 2G signal (G or E), if your phone is actively using data you will not receive calls because you cannot use voice and data simultaneously, and there seems to be no prioritization of voice over data.
If you are getting 3G, this isn't your issue since you should be able to have simultaneous voice and data!
Regards,
Dave
Good Point - i'm not sure, mu phone is almost always H but i suppose it could occasioinally drop.
I will experiment - thanks for the answer.
Is there an app or something that will only allow for 3g connections - thus preventing my phone from accessing data when only a 2g is available and stoip me missing calls?
This is a network issue, not a phone issue.
Network issue as in fixable with a phone call to T-mobile?
Or network issue as in unfixable?
This is a t-mobile problem. They have not found a solution to the problem yet.
I'm with Orange UK and 9 out of 10 calls go straight to the voice mail, I know that 2G cant cope with data and voice at the same time but Im having this problem with a strong 3G signal!!! The only time im not having this issue is when the phone gets a H signal (not very often, though).
Any one hahing the same problem??
This isn't related to your problem but is a general missed calls questions.
When i get a missed call i drag the task bar down and it will say for example "missed call from 07123123123". Obviously this isn't very useful since i don't know the number of every contact in my phone! So my question is is there a way to get the phone to say for example "missed call from John Smith"
mine does this.
it says: missed call from contact X as long as the number is assigned to contact X.
I have a T-mobile Version as well, but did not have any issues with missed calls
I'm struggling to find any other phones that conistantly show the same problem, but several threads reporting the it happening on the Desire. This is a worrying sign in my book.
Have a read of this thread. You'll see that other phones don't report the missed call problem but the Desire does.
(I can't post links so just google for "desire Not receiving calls when browsing on GPRS" and click the first link which is for "Android Forums").
Is there any one here who can do some low level testing on this? I expect it would be quite a tricky job but it would be worth doing.

That would be quite useful imho!
I had that problem too. However after rooting the phone and flashing the newest radio 32.37.00.32U_4.06.00.16_2, the problem was completely gone.
Thats interesting. How long have you been running it for?
I flashed the new radio about a week ago and after that I could pick up all calls. (My carrier sends an sms every time someone calls but cannot be picked up) However the past two three days, I started tinkering with my phone again; flashing new roms and kernels. Thus these pass two three days, I did have some calls that went directly into voicemail, but all the calls registered on my phones as missed calls (+ i still get the SMSs). Which is better than before.
Give me another week to play around with the phone. Also a newer radio is out. However, I have not tested it yet.

Bizarrely enough is this issue only effection those on Orange or something??
Please everyone post up your network provider and your location in the UK
This could well be a Orange / T-mobile issue as they are currently upgrading all there masts, as the two companies join, My desire has only dropped about 10% of calls but my wifes LG 620 ( android ) is a definite 50/50....
Only time will tell.........

Desire drops call after a moment

Hi guys, I have a strange problem.
Sometimes when I try to call someone, the phone cuts off the connection right before it should vibrate to signal that the phone was answered. This means I can hear the other side picking the phone up, but I hear like "H" (sharp, short) when they try to say "hello". No matter whether I have phone by my ear or laying on the table, sometimes it cuts off, other times it doesn't. When I make the call again, it works.
This started to happening to me since I've updated my sw version to 1.21, when it was 1.15, it worked like a charm. For the last 4 days I tried to make 3 calls, every one of them was cut out and worked on the second try.
Anyone has the same problem/knows the solution?
Thank you very much, It's annoying as hell since every call costs me twice
EDIT: I'm using stock ROM, updated with OTA, no root

Sorry for my English, I'm Czech.
Really? No one?
desire drops calls after a few seconds
Hi!
I've the same problem, since today - very annoying. All start with a call from a friend and after I said "hello" the call ends, but network connection was fine (4 bars). After that I tried to call him back 10 times, every time the same thing - call drops after 1-3 seconds.
A Reboot solved the problem for one time, next call same issue. Tried my sim in the HTC Wildfire of my colleague - same network, everything is fine.
Now I started to uninstall all Taskkiller and other apps i recently added - no change. After 30 min try and error I realised that if I turn of the "Mobile Internet" and therefore the 3g connection, it works better.
anyone have a clue what this could cause?
Joint the club.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712030
Mine does exactly the same thing... first of all I thought it was the phone... returned it... new phone, different sim.... same problem.
Geeba have you tried to turn off "mobile internet"?
After my problems yesterday I turned it off and since that no call was dropped!!
Maybe its some sort of concurrent use of 3g Network and the data threads kill the call ... actually I'm no expert in Mobile Networks.
I'm looking forward to Froyo and hope to get rid of the probs.
Minos - yes I have turned off the 3g - but I then have internet connection problems... pretty pointless having a smart phone that has no internet access..
But yes it does help... the Desire I think should be able to monitor the two signals and switch between them accordingly .... but it doesn't. my Mrs has the Hero... it doesn't suffer this problem so personally I think its a problem with the desire.... I'm going to wait till Froyo then if its no better there will be a nice unbranded black Desire gracing ebay!
had the same issue for a few days then i uninstalled juice defender and i havnt had a single dropped call after
I have had the same issue. And then I have read somewhere here what to do.
You must first enter the phone's debug menu: *#*#4636#*#*
Then Choose "Phone Info", scroll down to" Set preferred network type" and set this to GSM auto (PRL). For me it solved all the call drop problem. As you are on different network maybe some other setting will work for you but it might worth to take a try with it.
I am not exactly sure what this sets. One thing is sure I still have 3G and HSUPA connection - and all type of connection works like charm. So nothing changed just no more call drops since then.
benoke: Thanks for your idea, actually my Desire is now beying hospitalized as it had dust under the screen, anyway I reported dropping calls as an issue too while returning in warranty so we'll see what happens
i sent a support question to htc and got that answer:
"Thank you for contacting HTC. In regards to your question, I can help you with that. It does indeed sound like a hardware fault, I would be grateful if you would call our tech-suooprt team and let our agents arrange the return / repair of this device for you. If you could just call 0845 890 0079, we can arrange the collection. I trust that this resolves your query. Please do not hesitate to contact us again if required."
But I don't think its an HW issue.
@benoke: the GSM auto setting worked - four 1h now.
Minos: it is good to hear that it might work for you too. I have recommended it to some of my friends and they all say it works for them.. so it really seems like solution...
Try the new version 5.09x radio in the android development in desire forum to see if that miight help
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Haven't found a way to solve this issue yet. They told me at the service station that this is unrepairable issue occuring only with some SIM cards and that they would give me a refund.
I'm buying HTC Desire HD when it is available...

[Q] HTC 7 Mozart cannot make/receive calls/sms messages

Hello! I don't know why but my phone started having this problem. It was out of nowhere. Well, maybe not, I've flashed my phone with the official mango update like two weeks ago, and it was working fine.
And today I saw that that I messages doesn't send out. I tried to call/text myself from other phone, and I couldn't. Phone displays gsm network name in phone hub, and also it shows full gsm connection bars(five of them), so you couldn't tell that something is wrong until you try to text or call. When you call the phone says "dialing..." but this shows forever and there's no sound from the speaker. It's worth mentioning that I've received few messages I've send to myself, but just about 2hours from sending, and then I tried to send a few more and haven't received those. Also, I've suceeded to call for a few times but after a long long wait(like at least 30sec) with the "dialing..." message shown. However, I cannot reach the phone when calling from my other phone.
I've tried to turn my phone on/off, to take the battery/sim card off, reseting the device, but none of these things helped. Then I've decided to flash my device. I've flashed my phone with DeepShining Mango custom ROM, and it seems to be working fine, but the problem still exists.
I don't know what else to do. And that's a major problem, because noone can call or text me. As I've said in the beginning, it was out of the sudden, I haven't done anything to my phone. Just yesterday I was using my phone normally, texted and called with no problem.
So I'm asking yours, guys, help. Could you please suggest what I could do? Thank you very much!
P.S. I've bought this phone from second hand and it was unlocked, but it has an orange logo on the battery cover, so I suppose it was locked to orange.
Did you pay your bill?
I have a prepaid card.
Ok, do you have a another SIM to test

[Q] Unable to make calls on Galaxy Nexus (Vodafone UK)

I have this strange issue, where i am unable to make calls using my new Galaxy Nexus!! It's so annoying especially as Vodafone tech team have no idea whats wrong.
Model: Galaxy Nexus
SP: Vodafone
Build: 4.0.1 ITL41F
If i turn my phone on, and DO NOT attempt to place a call, i can receive calls, send txts, use WiFi etc etc, the issue only occurs when attempting to make a call. The phone dials for a few seconds, then drops saying that i have lost signal and no longer am connected to Vodafone network.
I only got the phone on Fri 30th Dec and to my knowledge this fault has been their ever since.
I am really stuck to why i have this issue (my Samsung Galaxy works fine where i am), and am using the same SIM card (sim is about 5 years old though)
Anyone had this, or know of a solution, your help is much appreciated!!.
Not had any problems with calls and I have exactly the same phone build on the same network, have you been able to make any calls on the phone?
No, not as yet...I cant remember whether or not i placed a call on the day i got it (Fri), but when i tried yesterday / today it doesnt work. The Vodafone CS rep said it was probably caused by the new years eve traffic, but i do not think this is the case.
When i attempt to phone out i get a ringing tone which lasts for on average 4 secs, then it dies on me. I originally thought it was the area, but i put my SIM into my Samsung Galaxy S and all works...
The strange thing is i do have 'reception bars' on my phone, usually around 2-3, but it doesnt make any difference.
As stated previously, if i do not attempt to make calls when i first turn my phone on, i can send / receive SMS and use the other functions, its only the placing of phone calls that does not work..
There's a thread on the vodafone forums about this. I had the same problem, you need a new sim. Just go into a vodafone store and they will activate a new one on the spot.
Great - many thanks for your help with this one, much appreciated!!

M8 can't receive calls, flashed wrong ROM? (4G problem)

Yesterday I flashed my AT&T HTC M8 to a custom ROM (Wolla) because my phone was really laggy after the Lollipop update, and I noticed that although I am still able to make calls, I cannot receive calls anymore. I am wondering if it is possible that I messed up a step somewhere (especially step 3), or if I flashed my phone with the wrong ROM?
I also looked around on XDA more, and realized a few people also had this problem, and it was resolved by turning 4G data off. Apparently this is a problem with AT&T activating Voice over LTE, and the custom ROM not supporting/compatible. Is there a suggested fix to this problem (eg. flash back to the RUU on HTC's site)?
Here are the instructions that I followed to flash the new ROM:
Unlocked my phone via the HTCDev website
Installed TWRP
(Here is where I think the problem occured). I downloaded the Wolla Marshmallow ROM from the XDA thread, and took the boot.img image from the .zip into my fastboot folder.
Then in fastboot, I typed in "fastboot flash boot boot.img", then "fastboot reboot" to reboot my phone.
HOWEVER, my phone would be stuck in white Android booting screen, and wouldn't move for around 10 minutes, so I thought it was stuck.
I redid step 4 a few times, but the same thing always occured.
Finally, I decided to take the boot.img file from an RUU from HTC's website, and use that instead of the boot.img from the Wolla .zip file.
Now my phone boots, and everything seemed to work.
The only issue is that although I can make phone calls, I cannot seem to receive phone calls. It doesn't "ring" on the caller's end, and goes to voicemail in the end.
Does anyone have any experience with this?
My phone is an HTC One M8 bought from AT&T, unlocked about a year ago.
You're on the right track (AT&T's deployment of VoLTE is the problem), and there is one more suggestion I can make: call AT&T and have HD Voice (their branding of VoLTE) turned off for your account. Details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62001970&postcount=28
Not a true "fix" as obviously, you will not have VoLTE if you do this. But its not a bad compromise, IMO. Not may folks are going to miss VoLTE, and at least the above workaround will allow you to use the custom ROM you want, and have LTE data.
Your other option, is to use an AT&T-based ROM. But who the heck wants that?
I think I'll hit up AT&T chat support today to turn it off, thanks!
I'm sure there are a lot of other AT&T users using custom ROMs on the HTC M8 on this forum. Are all these people getting this problem too, or are they using a special ROM that doesn't run into this issue?
Edit: I'm also a little worried if this problem might occur on other 4G networks internationally? I tend to go abroad once or twice every year, and have a SIM card for the other countries I go to. Is this an AT&T specific issue, or would I run into this problem for every country that also uses HD Voice?

Note that the base level customer service probably can't turn off HD Voice (won't know what you are talking about, or even wrongly claim it can't be done). Ask to talk to a Tier 2 (or some such term) tech support.

If you click on the full thread, for which my previous linked post is from, you'll see that there are a good number of folks that had the same issue. And that is just on that one thread, there have been others (like this one of yours).
Plus, there are other variables that will effect whether AT&T users (on "international" based ROMs) will see this issue or not, such as whether HD Voice has been deployed in their market or not (heck, lots of places don't even have LTE yet, much less HD Voice), or whether the HD Voice feature was ever turned on for their account.
Personally, I have yet to see this problem, despite being on several different non-ATT ROMs and frequently travelling to various US regions. So I'm guessing in my case, HD Voice was never activated on my account.

From what I can gather, this is entirely an AT&T issue. Although nothing is a sure bet when travelling international, I'm sure you probably already well know if you travel abroad occasionally. In particular, LTE implementations seems a lot less standardized from one country to another than 3G or 2G. But falling back to 3G is not a bad option, if you end up needed to. Really, unless you are streaming video a lot, or downloading huge files, 3G is really all you'll need most of the time.
So I think I found might have accidentally found a way to deal with this problem without calling AT&T.
On my stock ROM, I turned of the VoLTE (HD calls or whatever) options under data connections.
Made a few calls to myself to made sure that it was dropping to 3G (ect...) when I called it.
Afterwards I flashed a custom ROM (the new sense 8 rom by sundream) and my phone could still receive calls as it dropped it for 3G.
While you don't have VoLTE you could avoid the hassle of calling AT&T.
