I'm trying to trace through an issue with being unable to connect to my mixed mode A/N Wi-fi band @ 5Ghz.
I need to know if both the chipset in the phone supports 5Ghz N connections and that Android 2.2 supports it (at least as it is implemented with Verizon's OTA 2.2 update).
I can connect, under both 2.1 and 2.2, to the 2.4Ghz B/G band I've setup.
I don't see the SSID (the router is broadcasting) for the N bands. Setting up the connection info manually on the phone just indicates that I'm "out of range".
Troubleshooting this from another angle, if you've got the 2.2 OTA already, and you have successfully connected to a 5Ghz N network (not 2.4Ghz please), that would be good information for me as well. As that would indicate that I've got a problem with my router, or router configuration.
TIA

replace [dot] with .
Thank you. That leaves either the phone's OS or my router as the problem.

Hello,
I cannot connect to my AP on 5 Ghz
It sees it, it asks for password, but then disconnect and reconnect endlessly
Any idea why
Cheers.
One X does not support 5GHz wifi. I see only 2.4GHz in official spec
Oups, I thought it could as i can see it
Switch your router to 2.4, and it will work
I thought it was 2.4ghz only cos of the specification too but i can connect to my 5ghz frequency on my Netgear WNDR3700.
I can see and connect to my Netgear 5Ghz WNDR4500 no problem at all.
You guys can tell me what parameters do you use for your 5ghz ?
Thanks.
My router is fairly new, just bought it 2 months ago. I didnt change any of the settings, just plug & play. Even didnt change the router password.
The problem is with Linksys router's wireless .
even in my house we used to have a Linksys router , kept on disconnected when over 3 devices are connected to it , keeps on disconnected every 2-3 minutes really.
changed the router , and everything is smooth now

WIFI Channel 44
WPA2 AES encryption
Up to 300 Mbps speed setting
5Ghz a/n network types.
That's all the settings that i've configured, although it works out of the box with stock netgear settings too.......

I have seen some places (specs) where is doesn't show the 5GHz, but the phone supports it.
Not able to connect with 5Ghz WiFi AP

I have tried to double check this spec on the HTC offical website and it does indicate this phone supports WiFi 5Ghz, as it is with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n
htc.com/us/products/htconex-att#tech-specs
however, i have tried to link with a DLink router, DIR-857, and it sees the 2.4Ghz SSID and could connect without any problem, however, not able to see 5Ghz SSID though, i have also tried to set no security and with different channels but seems not have any lucky to this.
i am wondering is there any particular setting to the phone or router double checked with customer service but seem not really help, only ask me to change and try with another AP or router.....
I'm connected to my 802.11a AP with no problems at all. Ditto for 802.11g. I don't have 802.11n here so no idea if that affects it or not.
I didn't need to do anything special on the phone. The AP is a Cisco AP1242AG and it has the usual configuration with WPA2-PSK.

same as that, i didnt have to configure the phone at all. i just scanned, found the network and connected using WPS push button. Im on 802.11n as well
Hi folks.
Trying to get to the bottom of wifi issues to do with One X and my router. Ive puzzled over this for a while but no clues yet.
Got a dd-wrt flashed Linksys WRT610N v2 with the latest firmware. Its a dual channel mimo 802.11n device.
Router is set up as DHCP forwarder to a ClearOS home server handling all the DHCP, WINS, web access etc. duties.
Everything else communicates with router fine, except one netbook that has to be set to use TKIP, but I think thats limitations of the netbook Intel wifi card or its drivers.
The phone will set up a wifi connection with 610N, show very strong signal but almost never manages any data traffic. The phone will communicate with other routers just fine.
Channels are set same SSID, one 20mhz and low band fixed channel other 40mhz and high band auto channel, WPA2-Personal PSK is the encryption type using eithe AES or TKIP (unsure which the phone selects). The 20mhz channel needs fixed channel id because its working as a client bridge with another wifi router in the house for the TV box. That router is a DLink DIR-615 also flashed dd-wrt, same SSID 802.11n single channel mimo router also using same encryption and wifi security. Essentially all routers and channels function as parts of same wifi network.
Im hoping someone knows of a specific limitation the phone has that can be worked around, or indeed can offer some insights into known problems with the One X wifi capabilities.
I found the solution to this, so I thought Id return and respond seeing as no one else could, just in case it helps a future reader.
The problem turned out to be the particular release of the dd-wrt firmware, I am not clear unfortunately on what aspect.
I obtained my wrt-610n V2 soon after it was released for sale in Singapore. At the time I flashed the most current dd-wrt firmware available and left it at that, firmware dated october 2010 iirc.
The procedure is first a special flash image then you can flash one of the broadcom specific 2.6 kernel generic releases(vitally important to only use 2.6 kernel on V2 models). The dd-wrt database still lists that early firmware from its reference page. However, if you go to the ftp site regular and recent generic builds are available.
I used the very latest generic build compatible with the 610n hardware (preserving settings so i didnt even have to reset and reconfig), since doing that my One X has been completely stable and performs well on the wifi connection. One wrt-610n radio set 20mhz low fixed channel other radio set 40ghz upper auto channel.
Problem completely solved.
For good measure I flashed up my two Dlink DIR-615 routers to the latest dd-wrt build and they now perform noticeably quicker and better on wifi connections. One of them spends its life as a travel router the other as a wireless bridge to the low channel radio on the 610n to remotely wifi link some AV gear on my network.
So the generalistic "keep firmwares up to date" certainly applies with these routers.
As an aside the Dlink DIR-615 has got to be one of the cheapest 802.11n routers out there thats full dd-wrt flashable, nothing fancy but they can be found in vast numbers on ebay for just a few quid
I have a 500cl model Zenfone 2, the Taiwan version. I'm having trouble seeing my dads 5g wifi network at his home.
The network mode is set to A/N/AC-Mixed and the wireless channel is set to Auto.
I understand there are some limitations to the channels or something in the phone in terms of 5g radio. I really don't know. I'm a total noob. It would be nice to be able to connect to the 5g wifi though. I can't even see it in my list at the moment.
The networks works fine itself, as we have a number of other devices connected already. Just can't get my zenfone to spot it.
I do not have any issue with wifi 5ghz
When i was at a friends i couldn't see his 5g ac router at all i did some research and found a old thread said to put the channel on 159 and sure enugh soon as we did it my phone was able to see it and connect. At home my phone finds my 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz with my wireless n router but connected at max of 74Mbps so i did some tweaking and found certain channels the phone woudn't see the 5Ghz band anymore but at 157 found it again and connected at 150Mbps both me and my friend run ddwrt on our routers.
Try changing the channel. My phone connects to my 5GHz network automatically without hassle and will switch from 2.4GHz to 5GHz preferentially when I come in from the backyard for example.
Hi!!
I just bought a new tab s4, and I can not connect it to the 5ghz wifi network. It connects, but says connected without internet. The 2.4GHz network connects perfectly.
PS. Sorry for my English.
Same issue.
My tablet is TIM branded.
Same issue, it connects on 2.4ghz but not on 5ghz...
Anyone?
HI peep's mine is connected to 5 GHz and it’s working flawlessly, it’s showing a connected speed of 866MBPS!
Quick questions, did you try a reboot router and Tab S4 once connected to 5GHZ ?
Also are you using separate WPA2 PSK key ?
As some routers can’t handle separate keys, keep the Wi-Fi key same for both channels i.e 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ!
Does it get ip address from the router/dhcp server you have?
I don't have access to a 5Ghz wifi right now. Next week I'll try the tablet and I'll try everything you said. If the new tablet has the same problem of course, I hope it goes well.

See below and bands i have Separate bands!
Galaxy-Tab-S4
dual stack
Galaxy-Tab-S4
device info type 5 GHz
IP address: 000.000.0000 (DHCP)
MAC address: 77:EE:00:FFD:00
I have the same problem and I noticed that it came with the Anroid Pie update! 2,4G is working fine in my S4.
I have another tablet Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition and 5G Wifi is working flawlessly.
Might it be software issue in Android 9?
My basebandversion is T835XXU3BSF4, kernel 4.4.153-16124683 #2 Fri Jun 14 2019.
My Tab S4 was ,finally, updated to Android 9. 5GHz working fine. Both 5GHz and 2.4GHz working fine...
All good here...
I got one coming in the mail and will report back on my success but if you don't get internet trying setting your dns manually to Google's public one for testing. 8.8.8.8 Could also be related to the channel the router is using for 5ghz.
Malcolm
Okay, so I got a new tab s4, and I have the same problem. At the second floor of my house, I don't connect to the 5Ghz wifi. I have separated bands. I tried changing the channel... I don't know what else try.

5GHz WiFi has less range than 2.4GHz, maybe the signal strength is not enough at the second level. Use the lowest frequency band available, move the base unit to a place less obstructed etc. This does not sound like a device issue.

Yeah, I know, the device issue is that all my other phones, computers and devices are able to connect to the wifi. I enabled the smart wifi and it looks like it's going better, the tablet is able to get better download speed.
I am on the June update and ever since I installed a wifi 6 AP from zyxel my S22 drops the wifi connection every few minutes. It either stays omegle connected with about 2mbits or says connected no internet (with the exclamation on wifi symbol)
I tested this behavior on S21, ASUS ROG flow x13 and Intel WIFI Ax200 (PC). All of them are wifi 6 compatible and have no issues connecting.
My 5ghz and 2ghz bands are separate SSIDs, channels are checked and selected to free channels. AP is connected by LAN to router.
This issue doesn't seem to be that uncommon though, it's probably a QS issue or hardware/firmware related...
Should I contact Samsung? Do they offer replacements that are sent before I send mine back? Because I only have one phone atm and I can't reset it without another phone since there's multiple 2FA accounts etc that I would need to transfer first.
Just as an FYI, I work as an IT specialist and I checked everything so far. This issue is not caused by me or my network configuration!
I have this same issue with my new S22 so I don't think it's a problem with your phone. I have TP-Link Omada APs with the same SSID on both bands. All of my other devices work fine, but my S22 couldn't stay connected for more than a couple of minutes. I fixed it by creating a second SSID for 2.4ghz only and connecting my phone to that one. Now it stays connected most of the time. So I guess it's just the 5ghz band that the phone has problems with.
Do you know what chipset your Zyxel AP uses? Looking online, it's likely to be a Qualcomm IPQ8072. My Omadas use IPC8074 chips which are basically identical. Maybe there's some incompatibility between the phone and this chipset? Hopefully it will be fixed in a firmware release for one or the other...
