I've got a huge problem with my desire!
this morning it suddenly stopped working!
My pcs don't find the ppc (in recovery mode) when i'm into the prompt (i've windows xp) and the recovery-windows.bat doesn't work.
So i decided to use the clockworkmod, i done a wiping of the data, and a cache + dalvik cache wipe, i flashed some different roms followed by the latest radio.
The ppc is now stopped in the white screen with htc logo from half hour and doesn't work yet.
anybody has some suggests?
i decide to restore a nand backup maded with rom manager (with the nextsense6 ) but i've the same problem.. the desire doesn't work yet!!!
What can i do?
i also tryed doing a full wipe and switching on without the sdcard, but nothing new..
nobody could help me?
I had a similiar problem on monday, after flashing and restoring a backup, my device was stuck on the white HTC boot screen.
I found out that I couldn't mount sd-ext in clockworkmod recovery, so I mounted the device via usb on my computer, put the AM Desire Recovery fake-flash ({this forum here}/showthread.php?t=689778) on my sd-card and booted that.
There's an option to fix the sd-ext, I executed that, then went back to clockworkmod recovery and tried to mount sd-ext, which worked, so I went on from there as usual.
hope this helps...
If this doesn't work, try to re-flash the radio (and not the latest one, some people have reported problems with this one).

ok, i think i bricked my desire...
i just got it, used to be a captivate user. i had just flashed this rom earlier and was liking it, except for one lil mms problem. i decide to try another rom (RCSTouch) so i put that rom on my sdcard and booted to clockwork. i wiped data and cache and stuff. i then selected to install the rom and i get this error "cant open file (bad) Installed aborted."
maybe the file was corrupted? well i tried rebooting my phone lotsa times and it just fires up vibrates once and stays stuck at the HTC screen. I have to pop the battery to turn it off.
what can i do here?
Boot in to recovery, go to mounts, mount the sd as mass storage, copy a non corupted rom to the sd, dismount and flash your new rom.

Always nandroid before making any major changes in recovery, that way if anything goes wrong, you can just restore your previous rom. It seems like you did not do this, and thus your phone is not booting up because you wiped it. That being said, follow Ghost's advice as it does seem like a bad file.
Hi there,
I have a HTC Desire Z and I"m having troubles with wifi, bluetooth and reception.
Whenever I turn on the wifi, it says "turning on.." and after few seconds "error"
For blue tooth it says "turning on..." and then it disappears as if I didn't press it.
Also, a lot of times when I make an outgoing call, the person on the other end cannot hear me the first time. I have to usually hang up and make the call again and they can hear me.
I've tried updating the RUU, rooting the phone and changing ROMS (cyanogen), but nothing worked so I returned it to stock and have it on the latest RUU.
I really don't know what to do any more PLEASE HELP ME!!
Thank you!
Anyone?????
Some more details would help.
Were these things ever working? When did they stop working? Any drastic changes prior to that?
ROM version?
I bought it used so im not sure of its history. Im sure it worked before.
its software number is 1.72.466.4
Kernel 2.6.32.21-geb0da35
Baseband 12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2
When the phone was on 1.35 I rooted it and tried cyanomod but the problem persisted. I upgraded from 1.35 to 1.72 and still the same problem
anyone have any ideas???
Ok so I rooted the phone and tried flashing different radios but the problem persists! Could this be a hardware issue?
You are wiping everything clean, aren't you? wipe data/factory reset - wipe davlik - format system - format boot. It could be that you are overlooking one small but important thing.
Ive tried data wipe
How dyu do wipe davlik, format system, format..?
Make sure you have the ROM that you want to flash on the root of the sd card before you do the following:
If you haven't done this already, download ROM Manager from the market, install it and then select from within to flash clockworkmod recovery. Once that is installed, then reboot into recovery. You'll have options there and you scroll through the options in recovery by using the volume up and volume down bar. to select an option, click on the track pad. To go back to a previous menu, use the power button.
first wipe data/factory reset, the go to advanced and look for the option to wipe Davlik, then go back to mounts and storage and format system and format boot. That should clean your system up completely for a new install.
Then find the option in the menu to install zip from sd card, and reboot your system.
when i try to wipe davlik, it says
"E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p2"
(File exists)
then when i try to install the ROM from my sdcard,
it says
"E:Can't open /sdcard/rom/zip (bad)
Installation aborted"
help?

The ROM zip file shouldn't be in a folder on your sd card...not sure it will flash that way. Move it out of that folder and put it directly on your sd card...in no folder. You may have to use a card reader on your computer to do that. You may also have a bad sd card, a bad zip file (the ROM), or your sd card may not be formatted correctly. It needs to be in the fat32 format. The first error re mmcblk1p2 is not a problem.

Okay so i tried official roms and it didn't work, so I tried a custom rom
i put it in the main sd card (not in any folder)

You may have to reboot first. Try that if you haven't. Do you have a Desire Z or a G2?
It's the desire Z
okay so I wipe/data factory set, wipe davlik, format system, format boot, and then reboot?
Then enter into recovery by vol down + power, then recovery?
and then install the custom rom or try another official rom?

no, that was only to install the ROM, just try a reboot to see if that fixes the wifi issue. nothing more. reboot=restart
Okay so I reboot the phone after installing the custom rom,
still no dice. no wifi or bluetooth
Wow! The only thing that you could try to see if its not a hardware issue in my opinion is to change the radio. You can read more about it in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=799208
I checked back and in one of your previous posts you said that you are using the radio that appears first on the list in the first posting in that thread - Vision_RADIO_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17. You could try re-flashing the radio you have now, or you could try another one.
You have to understand, as what's posted in that thread, that if you don't do everything correctly you could brick your phone meaning that it will be nothing more than a paperweight if you don't do everything correctly.
Please read that thread carefully. You have to understand the risk you are taking...and you'll have to know how to flash using the fastboot method.
AND...after all that trouble, it could still be a hardware issue!
With normal rom, i tried flashing different radios...didn't solve anything.
Means hardware then, yes?

I think so.... is the phone receptions still bad? can you go online at all?
edit: if you know how to flash a radio, try flashing another radio now with a custom ROM installed....who knows?
I tried with custom rom too, it didn't work :-(
I don't know about the reception but the internet always works regardless.
Fml.... I don't know what i can do to fix the hardware...
I have been busy today with a nasty problem, i hope you anyone can help me out.
I was running JDROID's custom rom with great satisfaction, had it backupped. The trouble started when i downloaded an other rom and forgot to place the rom (.zip) on my sdcard before i flashed the boot.img via flashboot.
By that time i didnt knew how to use ADB commands, so i decided that i would forget about the new rom and i would restore my working backup. (im using CWM)
After restoring that backup a bootloop occured, so tried lots of things like wiping the cache. Also ive tried to restore the backup after lots of full wipes ect. Even installing JDROID's latest rom witch i had on my sdcard dindt help. Still had a bootloop.
I managed to use ADB when my phone was switched off, and i pushed a rom.zip to sdcard. But CWM cant seem to find it.
My question is this: in CWM there is an option to "mount USB storage". When i use it i get the message "unable to open ums lunfile". I have tried formatting the sdcard, whereby i deleted my backups still didnt work.
What whould you guys try next?
relock the bootloader and run an ruu appropriate to your cid
Hey guys, got a strange problem here. I'm running MIUI-XJ 2.3.30 A2SD.
Had 8 apps to update via Google Play and 31mb internal left (over 600mb on sd-ext, too). In the middle of updating the apps I've got a Google Play crash followed by few other fc's, phone said my internal memory is too low to operate and such - so I tried the most obvious fix, which is of course rebooting the phone.
That was a mistake, apparently. Phone will not boot anymore - goes through the bootscreen and gets stuck on the yellow MIUI splash. It's not a bootloop, the phone just freezes and the only thing I can do is battery removal. Tried booting it up with no sd card as well, nothing seems to help though.
Is there anything I can do except full wipe via recovery? I had some important sms and spent quite a bit of time customizing the desktop, I'm not to keen on doing that again.
Is it possible to delete some apps via adb or something like that? Or is there a point in trying to install the rom again on top of my system?
Thanks in advance, help really appreciated!
Try clearing dalvik cache and cache from recovery and then boot. Thereafter clear some space or change your a2sd scheme.
Thanks for the answer! Makes me feel silly I did not think of that myself lol, sounds like an obvious solution.
Problem is, it still does not seem to help though - wiped /cache and dalvik-cache on data, sd-ext and system - still nothing, same problem persists. Stuck at MIUI bootanimation.
Any other ideas? I'm really kind of desperate to recover the data.
- Take a nandroid backup first. So you can start over if need be.
Some things to try
- Only flash ROM and see if it helps.
- Wipe data. Flash ROM fresh. Install Titanium Backup. With TB locate nandroid on sdcard and try to extract your data. Maybe restoring the launcher and messaging will do the trick. Not sure . Try. You can always start over.
- Fix permissions in recovery
There's an app called AROMA Filemanager that can be started from recovery and allows you to modify all phone partitions, all you need is to mount them before starting the app. Here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25911276
Tried flashing the ROM again on top of my system - no effect whatsoever, still gets stuck at bootanimation. Also, tried the permission fix as well as the RMD recovery "apk uid mismatches" fix. Still nothing.
Going to give the AROMA a try, having some problems right now though - using RMD recovery, no touch support. Trying to flash 4ext touch from fastboot somehow!
Thank you. Will keep you updated.
UPDATE//
Managed to get the AROMA up and running, deleted few apps from /data/apps, nothing to delete from /system really. /cache is cleared, so are all 3 dalvik-cache folders.
System still does not want to start.
Any ideas what might have happened? Seems like I'm running out of options and will have to do a clear install, after all.
You probably damaged some important system files so tho phone can't load system. The best solution is to restore some nand backup if you have, or to do a full wipe and start from scratch.

If that was the case, reflashing the ROM on top of my current system should fix the problem, while it didn't - right? Also, I find it hard to believe that "important system files" could have been damaged during routine Google Play apps update...
Than a full wipe and fresh install is inevitable...

I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have looked at the other posts which relate to a very similar problem, but none of them have quite the same problem as me. Basically, all the phone will do is show the 'HTC Quietly Brilliant' loading screen and it is stuck in a reboot cycle. I can access the bootloader and I have tried to factory reset with no luck.
I was watching a YouTube tutorial on how to flash CM10 onto my One X (I do have ClockworkMod and all of that stuff installed already). Everything was going well, but the video only briefly (for maybe a second) mentioned the fact that you have to put the CM10 zip folder onto the phone storage before you flash the boot.img. I went on and followed the steps and tried to flash the boot.img, but as I said earlier, all the phone will do is reboot over and over again. I have charged it to full battery so this should not be a problem when I go to fix it.
I would be really grateful for any help on the subject as I contacted the person who made the tutorial, and he has not responded. Thanks in advance.

Have you placed the ROM's zip file in your phone's root?
If you haven't, go to fastboot and flash CWM 5.8.4.0 and then go into recovery > mounts and storage > mount USB. Now place your ROM into the storage and flash it via install zip from SD card. Don't forget to wipe data partition, cache partition and Dalvik cache.
If this wasn't your case, just try erasing data partition, cache and Dalvik cache again.
If it still doesn't work, try flashing another ROM.
Thank You!!!

Thank you so much. I had CWM 5.8.4.0 already, all I had to do was mount USB and put the CM10 zip on the phone storage! I also wiped the caches, the phone works better now than it ever has . Thank you so much again, really appreciate the help
