is anyone else experiencing this issue? I'm running the *Seems to be official OTA* rom with the kingKlink bfs kernel and the latest radio.. did a full data/cache/dalvik wipe before updating also. everything else seems to be working well except for gtalk..
You could try going into Manage Applications for Google Talk Service and clear the data. I know this has fixed issues I had with Gmail and playing with different ROMs.
sorry, forgot to put that in the original post. I already tried this.. still nothing.. thanks tho! anyone else??
Works fine for me.
I just can't figure out how to switch accounts.

Talk works for me on virtuous 2.0 which is the same Rom just deodexed..

I have not tried talk yet but dunno thung is teeter won't work for me. F/c in version 1 deodex
Going to try version 2 from that thread now.
ok, now it's not working on any rom.. i've gone back to nandroid backups, i've done full wipes, loaded other roms, loaded stock rom backups.. etc... what the hell is the problem! gtalk doesn't work at all anywhere now
I just did the leaked RUU, haven't even rooted yet. Everything else is completely stock. GTalk and Teeter work perfectly for me.
ok, so it's looking like it's just me.. would anyone mind putting a link to the talk apk up for me so i can try to reinstall please?

I would contact Google, seems more like an account issue, like some sort of automated system is preventing msgs from pushing to your device.
It works from gmail and the pc client right?

ok, new symptom... my mms isn't working also.. not sure about sending, but definatly cant' recieve.. i get the download option, but the mms picture never actually downloads..
I've been using a ROM based on the OTA since yesterday. Also with the BFS #1 Kernel and 2.15 radio.
My gtalk, mms, and well, everything works perfectly.
Where did you download the ROM from? Double check the MD5 (I think properties in windows, or astro file manager can tell you this). Maybe the file was corrupted.
derickmc had a similar problem and then it just decided to work again. Perhaps it's something google is messing with and it just happens to affect you.
since you loaded as a rom, did you update the radio also? my GPS wasn't working after the update, that's what the cause was.
i checked the md5 and it matched, so it's a good download.. also checked the md5 after copying it to my sd card, so thats fine.. the mms issue has cleared itself up, no clue how that happened, but o-well.. still can't use gtalk, and i've realized that i also can't run fix permissions in rom manager.
I have CM 6.1 Stable - And it has been working great except for the loss of signal that happens rarely. Now I am having issues with either updating or Installing Apps. They will download but every time the Installation Fails? Any ideas on why or how to fix it other than performing a Nandroid restore?
This is actually a common issue. I'm not sure what causes it exactly. The best advice I can give you is get Root Explorer (file manager), after you download something - got to sdcard, then download (that's the folders' name). The files from Market will be listed as download.apk, download-1.apk and so on. Just click on it and install. To attach it to the market (so you can update) use titanium backup and use it to attack the app to the market.
Sometimes if you delete the .apk in the download folder then re-download it and sometimes it will let it install. Sorry this answer probably isn't what you're looking for but it's the best I have, maybe some one else has a fix for this. Will buy a six pack for a working solution
I just posted something and one of the issues I was having was this. Thanks for the answer! Hopefully a full fix is coming!
Yeah I saw that. Never thought to move it to the phone before updating I'll test it out and see how often it works, you might have found a fix Thanks!
So I have tried doing a factory reset and installing cyanmogen 6.1 but it hasn't fixed it completely. Some aps will install some won't, I'm not sure how it chooses. Can't install Angry Birds do you all think Unrooting and Rerooting? That might fix it probably? Any way you guys could provide me with a link on how to unroot? Thanks

That has nothing to do with it. I tried the method listed but it doesn't always work. The best I can tell you is try again. Go to the 'download' folder on your sdcard and either click on the apk and install it or delete it and try to DL and install it with the market again.
You also might try flashing the new market, see if it's a market issue, I had some serious stability issues with the froyo market before they pushed the huge update.
So after i flashed RCMix3d Runny v4.0 I tried to download an app from the market and get the error: "app name" could not be downloaded due to an error. It happens with any app I try to download any app from the market. I tried many things with no luck
-clear market data and cache. didnt work.
-uninstall market update. didnt work
- switch gmail accounts. didnt work
-flashed back to my previous rom. didnt work
I did wipe the phone before i flashed RCMix3s Runny v4.0
when I restored my previous rom it didnt work so i tried to wipe my phone again and reflashed the rom and still didnt work
can anyone please help me out here?
what exactly did you wipe? data & cache? use superwipe, maybe this helps...
i wiped data and cache. ill try superwipe
anyone? i tried superwipe and the problem is still there
Check your SD Card
check your SD card, take it or mount it on your PC and do a chkdsk (might need the /f to fix errors). Last time I had an issue downloading apps, my sd card was messed up. I don't understand why that would be.
good luck.

I had this issue when I first loaded mexdroid.
The first work-around I found was to select a different language option after the flash (during setup). English US wouldn't work, but English UK would give me access to the market. However it screwed up my data connection so that was a no go.
I eventually found that this only happened when I downloaded and flashed using ROM manager (first, and last time I've ever used that). Once I downloaded from their site and flashed myself through recovery, everything was perfect.
I currently have this exact same issue, only I went from mexdroid to synergy and back. I haven't tried wiping anything yet but I got this suggestion in my thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19432854#post19432854
Go to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/All
Find Market, first force stop, then clear data
Next find download manager, first force stop, then clear data
reboot into recovery and wipe the dalvick cache
then reboot system and try your market again
I'm going to try this soon and I'll let you know my results, but if you discover a fix first please post back, I don't like having a broken market!

I had done all that when I had the issue. It didn't work for me but heres hoping it does for you!
So you basically had to wipe everything and reflash mexdroid from scratch?
EDIT: I just tried the method I posted above and it didn't work. WTF, what happened? I don't understand how my backup doesn't work now, shouldn't it be exactly the same as it was before?
I'm going to try one last thing, I have 2 mexdroid's backed up about a week apart, at the time they both worked just fine but I'm going to restore the older one and see if that helps at all.
2nd EDIT: OP, I don't know why this worked and I don't know if this will help you, but I just reverted back to my mexdroid backup from BEFORE I tried the sense rom and everything is back to working. I don't know why but installing the sense rom definitely did something to screw things up. I also don't know if this had anything to do with anything but I unchecked the "auto update" option for market. I hope you can resolve your issue, good luck to you
For me when I tried switching gmail accounts again it started working.
I also accidently wiped out my sd card. That was right before I decided I wanted to go back to CM7. When logged into my gmail account I forgot I had to use my second gmail account, but for some reason it started downloading apps again.
Not sure if wiping the sd card had anything to do with it but it works now. I'm happy

Glad you got it working, I'm happy with my results too but I'd still like to know wth happened to cause it in the first place. It's gotta be something related to google accounts somehow, but why did trying a Sense-based rom cause it?
weird solution
I tried clearing everything in order to get the market problem fixed when I had this same problem. In different orders, flashing, wiping, etc.
Finally, I linked a second gmail account, and now it can download. Why might this happen?
The weirdest thing, is that when I switch to the original account, it still doesn't work. Maybe a security file was corrupted somewhere?
I read something about google market locking somebody out if it thought there where too many devices attached or something. Haven't found anything to confirm that and I still don't know why I got locked out or why it started working again, but if making a new account worked that makes me think there's some truth to the market lock out theory.

-not work for me either..
-even if i try ceate new google account. not work..
-then i mount phone to pc, and erase file ''downloadfile.apk'' in folder ''.cache'' on sd..it works fine now..
i can finaly download from market again..
p.s. this work for me with new and old google account..
HTC Desire / (ROM)MildWild V-2PointZero
Guys, this worked for me w/o changing google account or wiping sd,
1.)Turnoff your phone
2.) Remove Battery
3.) Remove External Sd Card count maybe 3-5seconds
4.) put sd card back in and battery
5.) turn it on and see if you can download again
I tried all of the solutions listed here; switching Google accounts, downloading an app, then switching back to my main account solved it. Thanks so much!
I had the same problem, going to accounts and removing my google account then adding it again fixed the problem
I added new account with the sync app, open the market, switch account, download some apps, switch back to old account and download other app. This fixed the problem. Thanks.
How is your density set in build.prop, i had the same issue. Changing the density on 200 work for me

Some days ago I flashed a ICS Rom, all went good but the only thing that i noticed was that my phone name had changed to lt18i in the market. Today I decided to go back to my previous GB Rom so I restored it from my nandroid backup. Now my phone is still identified as a lt18i and cannot download anything from the market. I tried to wipe the app data of the play store app but didn't do anything. Also the remote download from the pc doesn't work at all.
What other things I could try? I really want to avoid a factory reset if possible.
EDIT: Found a solution, i moved/deleted the /data/system/accounts.db, wiped the app data from the Play Store and restarted the phone, added my google account again and the market updated my device name and the downloads are working again.

I just tried this solution for my HTC Incredible 2 and it worked flawlessly. I'm currently running ICS 4.0.4 from Aeroevan's CM9 build. I tried clearing the data from the market and download manager as well as trying the "killall drmserver" fix, which has worked before. This here did the trick. I wonder if removing and readding the accounts from "Accounts & Sync" would've worked as well? I'll try that next time if it happens again.
Thank you.
Thanks! This fixed my ICS ROM'd Play Store problem

Just got the purchasing error from market and tried removing my account from Accounts & Sync. Phone gave me this warning:
This account is required by some applications. You can only remove it by resetting the phone to factory defaults (which deletes all your personal data.). You do that in the Settings application, under Privacy.
This worked for me too after changing around my apns. My market started giving off that error. Then I did your fix and now market/playstore is perfect again! Thanks! By the way you have to do the whole fix! You cant just delete your account in accounts and sync settings cause that doesn't work I tried.
Awesome!! I was starting to get pi$$ed... This was saver!

Now, on my phone I tried to find /data/system/accounts.db in astro & other file explorer but couldn't find it. Not in root or SD. I see a data folder in root, but there is no folder in it.
I also don't see the option to remove acct data in play store options. I'm getting relatively better this stuff but I can't find the options detailed.
A bit of elaboration please?

I just ran into this problem, hoping it will work on my tablet. When you say you moved the /data/system/accounts.db, what do you mean. Where did you move it to? Or do you mean you removed/deleted that file. Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I figured it out. Deleting the file did the trick. Thanks again
I actually resolved this issue simply by wiping cache and dalvik from recovery, and rebooting.
Btw yes I'm rooted but nothing there. I'll check again later though. Thanks.
Thanks. I have been searching for a fix. This worked for me!
Unfortunately this process didn't work for me. The various market fixing apps on the market don't work either (it's hard enough just trying to find their .apks since I can't download them over the market) and my CleanRom lost its keyboard and launch buttons thanks to trying this method. Looks like I'll have to wipe the device tonight. *sigh*
Edit: Dalvik and cache wiping fixed it for me.
This problem arose for me last night.
Fixed it by reinstalling 3.1.5 Market update.
Cache wipes did not help in any capacity.
Downloaded Market update file from www.arctablet.com/assets/apps/Android_Market_v3.1.5.apk
Probably a million places to find it but hope the link helps someone out.
I fixed this issue by making sure I was logged into Talk. The app wouldn't open so I uninstalled the update and then it ran fine, and the problem went away.
OP
your fix worked like a charm for me. CM9 on Motorola Photon. thanks!

You are my god! Worked
So I have an Evo 4G and am running 2.3.7 cm7 and I've been having weird problems with the browser and quick search box app which constantly force closes and tells me that com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox fc'd and that I should try again.
This culminated in a freeze of my device entirely at which time I had to pull my battery. Unfortunately now swype is fcing as well. Any help would be appreciated.
p.s. I looked for similar threads and only found two, neither of which helped at all.
Wipe the big 3 and install the latest google apps and it should work. Give it a try!

I did that well before I posted to the thread for help (I know, I should have added that to the original question) so I tried flashing and had no luck. I could boot into recovery but not flash anything. So I used a different memory card installed and this time it worked. Wtf is going on with my phone?

I Just figured it out! I had the same problem in my Droid GTR 1.5 Build (ROM)I am planning on releasing tomorrow morning. Just found out that the Google Quick Search Box.apk file in your App folder in your ROM must be re-named to: com.google.android.googleguicksearchbox.apk. That allows the instructions in the script to locate the application when you tap the search bar in the widget or explorer in your browser. Hope I helped you. So re-name that apk file and re-flash that rom.
