ADB not seeing Evo

Sorry if this is a repost. But hopefully someone can help me out. I'm fully rooted, full nandroid unlock.full 100 yeards. Now this morning I was going to do the process for "Permanently replacing your recovery with ClockworkMod Recovery Image"
But for some strange reason, ADB doesn't see my Evo. I tried running "Command prompt" as administrator also and it wasa no go. I typed "adb devices" and my device wasn't listed like it was yesterday before I did a full nandroid Unlock.
Do anyone have any tips on how I can resolve this issue?
If this helps, I running the Bugless Beast Rom.
Thanks
You might have forgotten a step or two.
Open cmd
Type cd c:\android-sdk-windows\tools\ or wherever your sdk tools folder is.
Then it should work.
thanks. I'll give that a try and reply back
Strange thing....before I rooted/flashed a rom I created a Nandroid backup (I think it was stock. It doesn't have Superuser Permission in my list of Apps). Well I reverted back to that nandroid backup and now ADB sees my Evo.
I will flash back to my previous rom and trywhat you posted. Hopefully tat'll work

Yeah, I tried what you suggested and itstill didn't see my Evo. I guess my only option is to revert back, then do the process.
Sometimes you need to restart the adb server. Try the following:
Code:
adb kill-server
adb shell
If you get a '#' then you're in.
I'm having same issues and it's not working. My device is not being seen. Do you I have to have the Evo in charging mode or Disk Mode?

or, you could just try
adb kill-server
adb start-server
lol
then check with
adb devices
seriously though, you may have put on a bad image. did you check the md5 hash? if not, do. there are threads around here on how to do that, if you are using windows. i don't have the link, because linux just has a command for it.
Try doing:
killall adb
sudo -s
adb devices
You must run adb as root on ur pc

What do you mean that I must run adb as root on my pc, i don't know what that mean. Do you mean run it by using the "Command prompt" program?
Also this only happens to me on the Bugless Beast Roms. When I revert back to my 1st nandroid backup that I was using before I flashed any rom, everything worked fine.

Thanks ...that fixed it! I enabled it typed "adb devices" and it showed up. thanks again!
No problem, glad you got it working! When I first started out I ran in to that trap over-and-over. Now I just make it a rule of thumb to turn it on after flashing and leave it on.
Have fun!
I would have started another thread, but this is basically a similar problem to the one I had at first with adb.
Ok...I was trying to install a rosie.apk that was in a zip format. Long story short, the OP informed me that he made a mistake and provided me the wrong information as to reinstalling the rosie.apk. He was giving me steps to "push it" via adb, instead of flashing it.
No problem to Poster and thanks for help if you reading this . But anyways after all that, When I open up "Cmd" and type anything with adb in front of it...adb devices, adb shell..., i get the message that adb is not recognized as a internal or external command. Before this incident happened i was able to just type "adb devices" and my Evo would show.
Do anyone know how to fix this?
By the way I also tried typing all the commands in the previous posts...and I get the same error message.
**Update** I got it working I had to redo the path. All is good now.
Thanks much!
You need to be in the tools directory of the sdk so cmd can find the adb command.

ADB commands not working

So i rooted my desire using the modaco r6 root.
I'm using defrost 1.0 atm and when I'm entering recovery i cant use any adb command, except for devices which show my desire in recovery mode.
all other commands return an error like:
su:
/sbin/sh: su: not found
logcat:
/sbin/sh: exec: line 1: logcat: not found
install
/sbin/sh: pm: not found
just to name a few.
i just got it so i don't know if they worked before.
however i did get one boot loop due to flashing the circle battery mode.
after which i recovered the nandroid backup.
If you need more info tell me what to do im clueless, im prolly just doing something very stupid.
Thanks in advance.
Go into partitions menu and mount /system then try.
No go doesn't even change the error.
so no ideas? i got no wifi or 3g connectivity atm so you guys are my last resort.
just some updates i flashed mcr 3.1 and it change in addition htc sync doesn't recognize my desire now.
you've cd to your android sdk tools folder right?
and youve typed in 'adb shell'?
when writing commands there should be a hash before the command?
Can you not boot into fastboot. Volume down and power. Then go to recovery. Then hold volume up and power. Select wipe data and wipe cache. Wouldn't that solve your wifi issues etc?
Wait...if you're using root r6 then your using fake flash aren't you? Try looking for r5 and use pauls recovery or look for amskghs recovery and use that. Pretty sure adb stuff doesn't work easily with fake-flash.

sorry about this but what is hash? :S

its just saying su not found instead of the whole /sbin/sh thing.
Hash = #
What exact commands are you doing and what are you trying to achieve?

I had your same problems and felt retarded too, but it might be something funky with the dos command prompt in windows. Follow these instructions to make adb commands universal so it doesn't matter what directory the dos command prompt thinks you're in (because obviously it didn't actually move you to the tools folder somehow even though you instructed it too):
- Also, Mikey1022 has reminded me to add the "ADB" directory path as a system variable in windows...
To do this right-click on "My Computer" and select Properties. Next select the Advanced tab(Advanced Settings in Vista) then select Environment Variables.
Click "New" under System Variables and add the following:
Variable: adb
Value: C:\android-sdk-windows-1.1_r1\tools
This was found here: sorry can't post link to give proper credit, but do a google search for adb for dummies or adb commands, it's an xda forum post...
The thread looks dead, but im going to post the possible solution anyway.
PM commands like install and uninstall doesnt work in recovery mode, so if you want to use them, run the commands when the phone had booted normally.
i have same problem? anyone help me
adb error /sbin/sh: exec: line 1: logcat: not found

[GUIDE *WITH VIDEO*] ADB/Fastboot Easy 5 minute setup (Great for nOObs)

Ok there are some other guides here on the forums for this but they all require you to download the Android SDK. That can be very time consuming and confusing if you run into issues. I have been looking at a way to have the capability to push and pull files using my laptop but i really didnt want to go through downloading and setting up the whole SDK just to use adb.
If anyone has followed any of my threads, you know I am all about trying to get things done in the easiest way possable to help the people that are new to Android. This method has worked for me but there is no guarentee that it will work for you and I am no way responsable for anything that happens to anything unless it works great for you. Then I will take all credit j/k. With that being said:
The first method is for Windows based OS. I have tested it on XP but I would imagine it will work on any Windows OS. If I am informed of something different I will update it here. The Mac version is in post #2 and takes less than 1 minute to do. Much thanks to kwbdc and stlouie65 for the help on this.
Instructions for setting up Adb/Fastboot (windows)
1. On your phone go to Settings/Applications/Development and make sure USB debugging is ON and plug it in via the usb..
2. Install drivers on your PC. This is done on the MT4G/HTC devices by going onto your sd card and clicking on the HtcDrivers.exe file while viewing the files on your PC. It should automaticly install them to your PC. If you are using another phone or have trouble installing the ones from your sd card you can try pda.net or HTC Sync for the drivers. Here are links for pda.net 32-bit Windows 7/Vista/XP and for 64-bit Windows 7/Vista. Install the program by hitting "Run" and follow the instructions. You can remove it at a later time.
3. Download the file at the bottom of these instructions to your desktop and extract the contents. There is 1 folder and a install note (these instructions) that should extract. You can use a program called 7-ZIP (google it, its free and a great tool).
4. Open your "Start" menu and click on "My Computer". Then choose "Local Disk C:".(You can now click and drag the adb folder you extracted to the C: drive.
5.Open a command prompt and type cd\adb and hit enter. You should now see something that looks like this C:\adb>
6.Type adb devices then hit enter in the command prompt and it should list your device.
7. You can also type fastboot devices then hit enter in the command prompt an it should list your device. (you must be in the bootloader for fastboot to recognize your device)( adb command= adb reboot bootloader )
You should now be ready to send commands to your phone via ADB or Fastboot. You will need to repeat steps 5-6 anytime you want to use ADB/Fastboot. To send a file using Adb or fastboot make sure to put the file in your "adb" folder before giving the command to send it to your device.
If this helped you please use the "Thanks" button to show your gratitude.

Just got back home and tried it. I'm prolly doing it wrong but it says exactly: c:\adb> push c: \adb\480x800_animationparticles1_blue.zip / data/local/bootanimation.zip hit anter and its done, gives me the size and seconds it took to transfer. I type adb reboot and it does but no go on the boot animation, same ol htc stuff
Rom: eViL-4g HD v.0.2.3
Sounds like I have adb successfully setup I just cant seem to figure out how to change the bootanimation. Know of a sure fire ways on the 4g? I could find several through other builds but not for the 4g specifically. I also tried through root explorer and emulator but no luck. Still boots the same, any help?

Put the file you are trying to push in the same folder you created.
ReName it bootanimation.zip
To push your file use this command after you cd into the folder you created.
You also need to be in recovery with your system mounted.
adb push bootanimation.zip system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip
That is the location of the bootanimation on that rom.
Hope this helped

You must be in fastboot (bootloader) for fastboot to recognize your device. You can get there by by turning off your phone then holding down the volume down button and the power button at the same time. Our you can use this command via adb (usb plugged in):
adb reboot bootloader
Your device should automatically go into fastboot from the bootloader. If it doesn't you can scroll to fastboot using the volume button and hit the power button.
Thank you for answering my question! I have been reading a lot about adb over the past few days and I feel more comfortable with this way than the pain in the ass sdk method! When I get back on the pc, I will be sure to hit that thanks button because you have been a great help.

[Q] Temporary Nand Unlock

How do you gain temporary nand unlock? All i wanted to do is copy 2 files into the /system/xbin/bb which doesnt seem to work with root explorer despite super user permission, copy paste just wont work.
Any ideas how to copy paste these 2 files without going to full s-off? Would the adb method work? or any other apk that can do the job?

any links to it? a guide perhaps? thanks for the tip.
Make a nandroid before messing with the system partition.
Then:
Code:
adb remount
adb push <file_name> /system/xbin/bb
This is what i think it is just looking at the basic adb commands, here is some more info about moving stuff to the system partition.

You do know that adb is part of the android sdk and not some function/app on the phone?
To get adb working (i hope you already installed it) just boot in to recovery, connect the usb cable, and launch adb via command prompt or terminal.

Ok I did my best, read alot about adb and followed some tips but I just cant seem to get these things working. I need a DETAILED step by step procedure.
I feel such a noob today, can anyone please help?
Basically, I just wanted to copy "ifconfig" and "route" from "/system/xbin" to "system/xbin/bb" and thats it! Im s-on by the way and dont want a full s-off just to copy paste 2 files.
I tried rebooting in recovery with adb and run some commands on "adb shell", many things came out and I have no idea what it ment.
Well many things came out is not such a great description. So i have no idea if something is wrong or something happened which you did not expect.
Boot again in to recovery and connect adb.
The type "adb devices" this should output something like:
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
HT##########
If this does not happen you don't have a connection and most likely have driver issues (only if you are on windows). If you do get a connection next thing to do is mount the system partition as read/write. To do this type "adb remount".
The output should be "remount succeeded"
Next type "adb shell"
This should give "#" as output .
Since you know where the files are and where you want them to go type "mv /system/xbin/ifconfig /system/xbin/bb" and hit enter, you don't get any conformation about this. Next type "mv /system/xbin/route /system/xbin/bb"
To check if they go moved correctly type " ls /system/xbin/bb", now you should see the files listed.
Next type "exit" to end the adb shell.
Then type "adb reboot".
If this doesn't work you need to give more info about the errors you get or maybe someone else has a better description.
A completly other method is, if you are able to copy the files to your computer, useing the .zip mercianary linked to, just make sure the system/app folder is empty and that you make the system/xbin/bb folder and place the files in there. Then just follow the instructions.

Kindle Fire Brick Utility not working

So i think I bricked my kindle fire. It is rooted and when trying to install a new ROM, i accidentally selected the fastboot option. Now, when I power it on, all i get is the logo and it never loads. I cannot get into the boot manager to try anything. I have tried the Kindle Unbrick utility from this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428428 and it says waiting for device when I run the stuck on logo option. Is there anything else I can do? I really dont want to get another one. Any help would be appreciated! I can't post in the development forum so thats why i posted here. Thanks everyone.
What version of Windows are you using?
Read the WHOLE first post of the Unbrick Utility thread. It's a driver problem.
Thanks I got it to work now but now when I plug it into the USB, it does not show that I can open it and drop files. I go into TWRP and try to mount the USB and it will not let me and I am unsure what to do!

If you're using an ICS ROM I don't believe mounting "mass storage" works on all of them.
Does it saying anything when trying to mount USB in TWRP? What does "won't let me" imply? Windows or TWRP throws an error message?
When I go into TWRP and go to MOUNT and then try to select Mount SDCard it will not let me check the box. I have a ROM running on it now but I cannot access the SD card when I plug it into the computer.

Boot into TWRP and get to a prompt using adb shell. Then use this command to open parted...
Code:
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
When you get to the "(parted)" prompt...
Code:
print
The last line, the media partition, is what gets mounted as /sdcard on your device. It should have a "fat32" file system type. If you don't have that, you need to make a new filesystem on that partition.
Code:
mkfs 12 fat32
12 is the partition number and fat32 is the filesystem type you want to use to format the partition. If memory serves, parted will ask you for this information again to confirm. Remember... 12 and fat32. Once you are done, you can...
Code:
quit
Once you've done that, TWRP should be able to see the partition and allow you to mount it on your host computer. You might have to restart TWRP... I don't remember.
I have not been able to get adb to run. When i boot to TWRP and go to the command prompt and type adb devices it says " 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
I set the path to where the android sdk is located and it still doesnt work.
Im sure I sound like a newb or something but I am just not as tech savy with these kind of things. thanks everyone for your help with this.

Find the adb executable through Windows Explorer. Once you find the folder containing adb, shift-right-click inside that folder and select "Open command window here" and then you'll be able to use the adb command.
Another way to do it is to download the Kindle Fire Utility distribution and follow the third post in this link...

You don't have to set the path to anything special if you do it one of those two ways.

It seems you have set your path incorrectly. I found it easiest to just copy the entire platform-tools folder to the root of C:\ and run adb from there (You could also use a Windows shortcut to cmd with "start in" filled out, or use shift-right click through explorer).
Definitely try to get adb working; when I first rooted my Kindle it took me an hour to fix a boot-loop without adb (damn drivers), and only seconds with adb.

When i try the first command, i get the same response saying parted is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
I have the kindle in TWRP and connected to the PC. What do I do now?

okay... I'm going to make this super easy for you... get ADB working...
1. Download attached "adb.zip"
2. Extract adb.zip to a folder
3. Double-click "CLICK ME!!!"
4. Type "adb" and see instructions come up
5. Type "adb devices" and see a 12-digit code
now reread your own thread and try all those instructions again in ADB
P.S. type "ADB shell" before trying the instructions from kinfauns
When I type the adb devcies it says "list of devices attached but does not show anything.
I apologize for probably something so simple

I think you should back up a bit and read this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552547
Start at post #1... follow the steps in #2 and confirm your device drivers are getting loaded properly... study #3 for fastboot and adb commands.
#2 is going to be the most important for you because it looks like there's a problem with your device drivers or you are missing a necessary initialization file. Following the directions there will get you fixed up.
After doing all that, go back to my previous post.
It works, I got to mount the SD card and everything. Thank You everyone for all of your help!
