Can't access recovery after flashing cm or maybe the kernal? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't access my root recovery now. Screen comes and flashes then shows build but nothing happens after. Can't flash or wipe. Nothing. Anyone experience the same? I did the nightly after the final and then did the 7.8 kernal I believe. Halp

still not able...just reboots..shows the build and nothing else

can you boot into the rom? if you can boot into the rom you can try installing rom manager and having it reflash recovery. this has helped me int he past with other issues. If you cant get into the rom you may try to see if you can install Amon Ra manually through adb (there are instruction in his thread with the file)

Not able to access recovery after netarchy-toastmod Kernal

So I have the "HTC OTA Froyo 2.2, *FINAL*, build 3.36.651.6 (Rooted) Odexed" Rom, and the new Toastmod Kernal 4.0.3 which works great except now I can't get into clockwork recovery.
Before I added the kernal I had the rom stated above and recovery worked fine. Now when I go to bootloader with the new kernal, and click recovery, my evo just reboots the bootloader.
Any suggestions?
I would try and flash Amon Ra. I think it has to be flashed from bootloader as a pc36.img, but I'm not positive.

Use Amon RA recovery. Clockwork sucks. There should be a link somewhere in the development forums. Just do a search for Amon RA.

Link is in my sig. Also, you can flash recovery with fastboot flash.
Thanks guys, I'm giving this a shot right now.
So the RA Recovery is on the root of the SD, but when I go into Fastboot or bootloader, I dont have an option to flash it. The only way I know how to flash is in recovery. However when I select recovery it just reboots the phone into hboot again.....
Guess I need a little more instruction, sorry.

You have to run fastboot on your PC after you go to fastboot on your phone, it is in the same place as ADB.

Ok, appreciate it. I'll have to read up on it.
Could I flash the stock kernal from the "Rom Manager" app, or would that not work?

cant boot into amon ra recovery

I flashed amon_ra through Rom Manager and also flashed through adb and fastboot. When i try to reboot into amon rec from rom manager or from power off (hold down power and volume dwn), i get stuck on Evo white screen. clockwork mod does work. any help would be appreciated.
are you unrevoked forever?
also, this probably belonged in q/a or general...
but... I am guessing that you have a botched recovery flash.
try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=764062
This just happened to me yesterday, when trying to upgrade to RA 1.8.0. I've flashed several different recoveries, tens of times, and never had this issue. I was unable to re-flash any other recoveries from adb after having this failure. They would all just immediately go to the next line, and it wouldn't really flash it. I fixed it on my phone by using ROM Manager (which I no longer use) to flash its own Clockwork recovery. I tested that, and was able to get into that. Then upon next boot, I re-flashed RA 1.8.0, and it worked well. Not sure what happened the first time, but it is up and stable now.
Hope this helps.
Dave
Thank you edufur, your method worked!

Issue with RomManager

So I am on CM 6.1, and I'm trying to flash Amon_RA or the latest version of CWM. I updated rommanager through the market.
THe issue is that the phone only boots into CW 2.5.0.1...even though when i run rommanager it says Current Recovery: ClockworkMod 2.6.0.1. If I try to flash RA as the alternate recovery, it says Current Recovery: RA Recovery v2.2.2....But when i reboot into recovery sure enough, its still CW 2.5.0.1.
Hopefully that makes sense. Thank you in advance.

What recovery were you running? What happens when you try to boot to recovery, does it just hang at the splash screen? If you want to restore a backup, then you should re-flash whatever recovery you were using when you made the backups. If you can still boot into the phone, the easiest way to re flash your recovery is using ROM manager. If you were using Amon Ra, first you'd need to select 'flash clockwork mod recovery'. Then when it finishes, select, 'flash alternate recovery'. That will flash you to RA. That should work for ya. If not, there are other ways of flashing a recovery. Good luck.
I was able to flash RA so I was able to fix my problem, thank god!

Cant Change Rom

Hello, Im kind of new to both this phone and custom roms, and it seems like ive gotten myself in some trouble.
I installed the ICS alpha rom to play around with, and now i cant seem to install any other rom. I had trouble flashing the clockwork recovery, so i used the alternate recovery listed at the bottom of the Rom manager program. That one worked, and i installed the ICS rom with no problem.
Now i want to install a different rom, but i for some reason cant. no matter what rom i try it gives errors at the verification point during installation and automatically aborts. Is there any way to fix this?
Thanks,
Plethysmograph
Well I know CWM has an option when you install a .zip there's an option to turn off/on signature verification. But alternate recovery I dunno
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
the alternate recovery i have is RA_GNM Recovery 3.02, if that helps. I tried to flash clockwork recovery and i didnt get any problems but when i went to boot in to recovery it just booted in to the other one

Did you then go back into Rom Manager and select "Flash Alternate Recovery" to switch over to CWM?
Also, what version of CWM did you download? Where did you get this file from?
Here is a verified site for Inc recoveries: http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=28
Im confused, the alternate recovery option is the RA_GNM Recovery. I downloaded the latest version of it from the clockwork mod website (5.0.2.0)
would the problem im having be due to a different PB31IMG?

Ok, that is the proper file. Once you selected the option, your alternate recovery became your primary recovery and vice versa. Amon Ra is now and still your main recovery whereas CWM is your "alternate recovery." Selecting the "flash alternate recovery" option again (if it allows that is) should switch it back over to CWM.
Even after doing all that it still goes to the other recovery. Or maybe im just doing something wrong, which is most likely the case.

Ohhhh, I see the problem. Select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" in Rom Manager to go from Amon Ra to CWM. To test, I began with CWM 3.0.0.8:
1) installed Rom Manager and upgraded to 5.0.2.0
2) selected "Flash Alternate Recovery" and Amon Ra was installed. I then booted into recovery to verify it was there.
3) reboot phone and go back into Rom Manager and select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and let it update.
4) go into recovery if you want to visual verification. Tada CWM 5.0.2.0 is installed for me.
How's this work?
I tried those steps and it seems like the other recovery is still on there. I must be doing something incorrect because your steps make sense, but for some reason my phone is just being incredibly stubborn
Also when i go and try to flash the stock PB31IMG file it says the current one is newer and doesnt go through with it. I know i had to use a different one in order to put ICS on, and for some reason i think it may have to do with some of the problems im having.

Hmm, aight how about this...
Go into rom manager and press Menu, then select "Erase Recovery" then try the first "Flash Clockwork Recovery" option again.
Otherwise, download CWM 5.0.2.0 from the link I posted above. Place that file onto the root of your sd card and delete the other CWM file you previously downloaded. As you know, you need to install this PB31IMG.zip via hboot.
I really think we can and will get this recovery situation straightened out.
Edit: just read your second post. Hmm, I wasn't aware of any additional CWM instructions for that rom. I'll take a look at it now and see if anything stands out.
When trying to use the stock PB31IMG file, I get the error that says:
Main Version is older!
Update Fail!
Do you want to reboot device?
Ive tried both and still no dice. Its really odd, and i agree with you on the instructions for that ROM, i know i saw them somewhere but i cant for the life of me remember where.
Flash this thru hboot http://dinc.does-it.net/PB31IMG.zip. Put it on your sd in no folders. Do not rename it. This is an hboot flashable of cwm 5.0.2.0.
Amon RA is stricter than cwm when flashing files by default. If you want to continue to use Amon you will need to go in to it and go to the flash zip menu and select toggle signature verifications. Then try to flash a rom.
Well I did not notice anything in that thread aside from rom bugs and people not able to flash that ICS [alpha] in recovery. The first set of directions I found are here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20486856&postcount=244
I have to ask because both recoveries will be the same blue color. Regardless of the setting you select, when you go into recovery the label still states Amon Ra? As in, even after you go into recovery and select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" then reboot into recovery the label at the bottom is the same "Amon Ra"?
I appreciate the assistance cmlusco.
the file linked did work, but clockwork still doesn't show up. it still loads the amon recovery for some reason. this is so frustrsting haha. I mean if there's no way to get clockwork on there do you know of any roms that will install through the amon recovery?
I'm not sure about AmonRa compatibility, I always assumed everything worked for both recoveries. I never strayed from the recommendation to use CWM. I took the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude. Have you tried the latter part of cmlusco's post in Amon Ra?

Verry strange. I have never heard of that happening. Well another sugestion would be to try to flash the stock recovery thru hboot and see if it will take. http://dinc.does-it.net/stockGBrecovery/PB31IMG.zip. If it does, reboot, and then try flashing cw again and see if it will take. If that dosent work i would try to flash an ruu and get back to stock.
I never saw an option to toggle the signature verifications, where is it? I tried the stock recovery, and it loaded up no problems but when i went in to recovery it was still the Amon Ra recovery.
