yahoo directs me to their web based app and i cant find anything else. apparently yahoo is only worried about the iphone and crackberry.
thanks
Are you able to handle GOOGLE?
Here is exactly what you want: http://yahoo-messenger.en.softonic.com/pocketpc
use messenger softwares such as parlingo or Fring. It has all the required messenger services you would require and most of all the softwares are free..

I recommend you go to nimbuzz.com and download their free app. That is the best app I found, after tons of searching. It has practically every popular IM know built in, and also has skype for internet calling. It has a nice interface too since it's fairly new. I think..... You won't be disappointed.
I think also that nimbuzz.com is definitely best solution, works great and supports all popular IMs...
i recommend SLICK or BEEJIVE , they're awesome
vietdoan20062006
I think Palringo is good solution. YM,FB,Google etc... and good looking too
i use fring.
Is this at all possible? I still want to have my contacts, etc updated but I feel the interface is somewhat primitive!
Replace with what?
An alternative ...
K9 Mail maybe or better ...
You can't "replace" it you just start using something else.
Are there even Amy advantages to using the gmail app?
Any suggestions on alternatives? K9 Any good?
Ah gmail will be the best gmail tool you will find on the android lol. You don't mean Email tool? Do you use Gmail??
Yeah I maent the GMail application (it refers to itself as "Google Mail"). I'll just have to bear with it then till they upgrade it . I am though over the moon with the device the text input ROCKS! I do have a list of applications I need suggestions on though ... I'm used to the following on Windows Phoen so I need an Android variation ...
G-Alarm - A Comprehensive alarm application
G-Profile - easily change my profiles from night, work, home, etc, this would be great as a widget
Task Facade - A general task manager that will show all my running applications and let me close/switch
Wake On Text/Email/etc - As it says ... and stay awake until message has been read!
Lock Without using Power button - easy ...
That's about it for now

I know what you mean about the GMail app, if it's the same as in Android 1.6.. Ugly, flat and boring interface. Some customisation or nice animation wouldn't go amiss. I think the problem is that the Android team at Google don't really view the product UI as a whole, but instead as a load of separate modules that they can just chuck together. No time to make the GMail app look nicer for 2.1? No worries, just stick it out as it is. Media player still the worst/most basic there is? We'll worry about it another time, just stick it in, as is.
Depending on what you've come from, Android can seem amazing, or quite basic in it's vanilla form. I realise the intention is for manufacturers to add their own custom touches to the OS, like HTC have with Sense, and Motorola have with MOTOBlur. But really I think Google should be applying a bit more spit and polish to it's own core apps - the ones that come installed on all/most Android phones, and won't be messed with by handset manufacturers.
By this I mean GMail, Maps, Market, Browser, Gallery etc. Some of these are pretty good efforts (Browser), while others leave a lot to be desired compared to those found on other types of (non-Android) handsets.
I realise that they have to code for the lowest common denominator (low-end handsets) and not every handset can have a 1ghz Snapdragon in it, but I also feel that they are failing Android a little bit, by not ensuring the the latest hardware is taken advantage of in it's latest OS.
How hard would it be to tart up the GMail interface a little bit, while still keeping the same functionality? Not hard.
I know Android is about power and flexibility - don't like the Google way, then design or just install some other developers app instead. And that's great, but I really think there's something to be said for making sure your core experience is great, not just ok.
Disclaimer: I am basing this opinion on my experiences of Android 1.1, 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0 (2.0 admittedly is limited, since I do not own my own phone with Eclair yet, just flashed custom ROMs).
Feel free to flame away - I may flame myself when my Desire turns up by 1pm today, and I realise I'm tallking a load of BS when I'm presented the all singing, all dancing, beautifully animated new 2.1 apps from Google! But I doubt it...
BTW, don't get me wrong - I love Android, and I would not consider buying any other type of phone!
Why use the gmail application? I'm using the native email application and it works fine with gmail, lets me move all my mail to archive etc, receives it when its received (through push i think) and there is no reason why i would wantto use the local gmail application. In fact. It hasnt even been loaded up. lol
So I don't actually "have" to use th GMail application? I can just add the GMail account on Exchange/ActiveSync on the mail application? Sounds like a good idea! What are the disadvantages?
Any advice on the other applications I wanted?

Go in the Gmail application, settings, disable notifications.
You've pretty much turned off the Gmail Applcation then. Start using the other mail application or download one off the marketl.
I will give you some suggestions for your apps when I have time.

THANKS! I was kind of pissed when I notced you couldn't send bbc emails with GMail app ... madness ...
Is there a way to have a Gmail, Google Apps and Exchange all on the same device? Also does the mail app use IMAP idle I don't want to drain the battery by checking mail every minute ...
What uses more battery, gmail app or using HTC Mail to check for messages every half an hour?
Likely mail as GMail is push.

My bad ...
Still, I have a list of applications that I need asap .
So far, I've not found anything that even comes close to Galarm in terms of quality. I'm using Gentle Alarm though, which is really good compared to most other alarm apps for android.
Check out a program called Locale. That's meant to be really good for profiles and even does it location based
EDIT: Don't use a task manager, it's not good for your phone! There's an article that was posted up on here about the way android works, you don't need to kill tasks and reboot, etc. like you did with WinMo.

Fair does but how do I see the apps running in the background or what's an easy way to switch between apps?
I've heard of this "locale" before, seems to be very popular!
hold the Home button and it brings up a little task switcher, similar to Alt+Tab on a PC
Thank you! Goodbye, Advanced Task Killer!
with the following attributes:
-push mail
-threaded conversations
-choose how many lines of preview to see in the message list
and not a deal breaker, but would be nice:
-change background and font colors
I'm currently on SRZ, but have a few other Roms backed up (mikrunny, TSMGingerBliss, Paranoid),
and have lost count of all the apps I've tried so far.
Lots that can do one or two, plus the font/color changes.
Tried Viper, but got horrible lag after a few days, even with V6 Supercharger. I think the stock mail app on that was fairly nice.
Help?
Personally I don't like it but k9 is popular.
I use both the hotmail and gmail apps separately as the s3 stock email app glitches out.

Wow, superfast reply!
I tried K9, Kaiten, Aqua, Maildroid, Gmail (I'm using Gmail), the stock email (older version on SRZ), a bunch of free trials for pay apps, and several less well known apps, but unless I overlooked the obvious, none could do all the things (not that many, really), that I'd like.
How hard would it be to add a feature like threaded conversations to K9 or Kaiten, I wonder. You can sort by subject, but that's not quite the same.
Yeah the world of email is lacking on android and the only reason I also keep iOS around lol how many people use email daily and how hard is it to create a useful email client?
Ah well... Good luck, and if you find anything decent please let me know too lol

If I ever find something, I'll report in here!
Does anyone here have the know-how to create an email app?
Seems, there are tons of K9 permutations around, but they are all pretty much the same, without adding anything.
Regular person here guys. Shouldn't even be on this forum. You guys are way too advanced for me. But i know just enough to be dangerous. And your the only ones that could help me with this.
I need a regular e-mail client. Just like the stock ones on all my LG's (2,3,4,5). And like all my old HTC phones. All the ones in the app store don't cut it for me. Either missing something or just not right. Mine is a business phone and the stock e-mail i get on all my skinned phones seem to be the best (for what i need). they are basic, simple, clean and just work!!! have notifications without downloading some other app to tell when you get a new e-mail. P.S. I use exchange. Don't like G-mail client for my work account. And don't want to mix my g-mail with work account either. I get over 250 per day.
is there anyway to get one of them? can i get a LG apk and use it on the Pixel? or is theirs themed for their skin? Doesn't have to be LG either. the Sammy one was good and Motorola & HTC also. is it possible or not a chance? Again i would need it to be as easy as downloading a APK. I can't do any of the ADB shell(or whatever it's called)
thanks in advance
I have tried almost all the store ones(just saving you time on telling my to use touchdown or something similar). They are all missing some feature or something that the stock ones I usually use have.
Have you tried Aquamail? I've found it to be better than any of the stock email apps.
there are a handful of great 3rd party Exchange email apps you can use. I would Google some of them and try them out to see which suits you best.
Outlook might be good, K9 I have used in the past. I ended up using Gmail and getting used to it for my Pixel.
If not, I found a link to the Samsung email APK here:

of course still waiting for stupid phone. But i will be trying that one. Don't care if paid or not. Willing to pay if it's what i'm looking for. clean and stock looking. and works flawlessly with exchange(which i have not been able to find yet)

I'll tell you this Ant. I don't have my phone yet but co-worker does. I got it for him. So it's basically mine when ever i need to do something on it.
Just loaded Alto and it looks good. Real good!!!! Just like a stock skinned type e-mail client. Waiting to test badge count and everything else. But this is definitely the cleanest client I have seen(yes their boring but that's what I need for work).
No badge count yet but nine took a few hours for everything to start working and to get a count..
thanks!!!!

If your using the Pixel launcher you won't get a badge count with any app. If your using Nova then you need to have Tesla unread installed from the play store and then turn Alto on in the settings.
Nine got it. Worked perfect actually. Every e-mail had a count. He just wants to get rid of it now because it's asking him to pay all of a sudden. Me personally have no problem paying. I just don't love the looks of Nine
Have you tried the Blackberry Hub? It's more than an email client (and the subscription includes more apps), but I've found it a really clean and easy app to use. It fixes my biggest gripe about GMail (i.e. threaded emails when using Gmail accounts).
Try Nine. I was addicted to the stock one as well until I used nine.
TypeApp, formerly known as Blue Mail.
I've tried a couple dozen over the years and this is the one I've liked the best.
Push, themes, tons of customization, free.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trtf.blue
It might be a little too fancy/customizable for you though?

We just tried that one and not for me. All of these are like the ones I already tried. they all do something but not all thing I need. and please don't take this as an insult. Thanks VERY much for helping
Nine seems to be the closest. I get over 300 e-mails a day so I HAVE to have a badge count. Nine is the only one so far that does it. But even Nine isn't close to the skinned clients.
I just don't get it. Why can skin company's that we make fun of do perfect e-mail but not Google. Yes if i didn't have a job or was still a kid in high school G-mail would be fine. But it sucks for business(especially because of that stupid conversation type threading). But why doesn't Google allow for badge count. Everyone wants that. I've never heard of a person saying they don't. Nor is there a reason to not want it on everything that needs one(Text, e-mail, voicemail). Google is a business. I just can't figure this part out. Wake up google. I can't remember what I used back in my Gnex days(last time i had a pure android phone). but whatever it was i liked it.
i just don't get it!!!!! but i'll adapt and get over it. So far Nine seems to be the most professional.

Very first one we tried.
For years I've used Gmail as my primary email app. And lately it seems worse than ever. Emails seem shower then normal, it will notify me even when the emails are syncing (annoying), and then takes a long time send. And now since their latest update, I have 2 apps for Gmail in my tray. What email app do others use I'm curious.
BlueMail. It's free, and basically perfect.
I use gmail, works flawlessly

Do you have any issues such as a duplicate icon?
This question is as old as Android..
I think I have been on all of them, free and paid. There isn't one that has no issues. All of them has great features. Some of them have better security, and the bottom line is, they are all not bad.
Now days, surprisingly, I'm back to the Samsung built in email app. Even my Gmail is on it ..

Stock and Outlook for company mail.
The best one is AquaMail

Tons of options. Amazing app.
BlueMail is the best Gmail replacement will never go back
I went from MailDroid (pro) over to Outlook. I loved maildroid, but the UI is/was very overdue for an update. Outlook has been a great replacement, and it integrates well with my PCs.
I'm using Spike email. It's very different. You can have the email format appear as a text thread. Also, I really love the oled black theme. Before this, I used Spark. And before that I enjoyed Bluemail.
I use Bluemail.
I have about 7 different email addresses and some are not Gmail accounts.
Bluemail has an export accounts option so when I switch devices I don't have to re enter all the addresses on the new phone.
Aquamail for me too

This! Nine is by far the best and most flexible email app out there. Same here btw, just a happy user ?
I'm using Fairmail, it comes with very good privacy roles and features and has cool features.
I tried Spark when it came out bit went back to Gmail. Then saw Spark made some updates and went back to it and I don't think I will use another app again. Now that it has dark mode and you can create folders. It is the closest thing to Inbox (RIP).
