installing boot screen - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I downloaded the evo pissing on the iphone.. I thought I could do recovery since it says its signed on the zip. Didn't work.. tried adb push pull.. Didn't work.. don't have any boot screen.. Can someone help me?

Since you just downloaded I would assume you got the zip that is fixed. If you flashed it as normal in Recovery then there should be no issues. What Recovery are you using?

Im doing the power and down button..

What exact information do I put in terminal emulater? Whats the difference between a splash screen and boot screen. Splash not animated?

Well I did it the easier way. I bought the root explorer since astro wouldn't copy or paste. I just copied it to both media and customize folders.. it worked but they have the wrong boot screen. Its not the android pissing on the iPhone. Just says android with a light glare going left to right on the words.. anyone know anywhere else I could find this boot screen?

There's a sticky in Themes and Apps that has a ton of mods in it. Should be able to find it there.

That's where I got the animation. Also to no aveil I can't get it to work. I thought it wasnthe zip. File but I think its the right one. I have no boot screen at all. I took out the zips I put in media and customize and have the zip that was in there previously back in. Nothing.. not sure what to do. I even used that program that you just out the zip in and does it for you and that didn't work. I'm lost.

So I put the bootanimated.zip to data/local, system/media and system/customize and still nothing. Anybody?

You need to use root explorer (phone must be rooted first) and copy bootanimation.zip to /system/media and on next boot animation should appear.

Bricking, yes, if you don't know what your doing.
Insurance/warranty, no, but read your terms and conditions.
All fixed/covered up with Odin and flashing a stock kernel. Your broken hardware on return isn't going to a CSI lab for investigation. Only your mouth can get you into trouble, if you volunteer to tell them any info that breaks any terms and conditions. Your mouth can also help, say it was a failed Kies update

Ok this sounds do.able. If i root it then change the boot animation then unroot it will the boot animation stay.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Im pretty sure you have to flash a custom Kernel which supports custom boot animations, like Hardcores' SpeedMod.
i havent found a reason not to root...as the options for customizing are endless! from boot animations to themed dialer and swype keyboards....custom ROMs and everything in between....
to answer you question about the boot animation..i think there is one out there...check out Doc & Stefunel's RomKitchen in the Development thread. there is a boot animation thats called BIOS...never used it but it seems like it fits what you're inquiring about....
good luck..
....please hit thanks if this was any help to you....
thanks for infos
Nice one folks im gonna have a think first though. The idea of bricking my £720 phone does not appeal to me haha

HTC Lock screen

Ok so I read in another forum that I could rename the HTC lock screen apk, not delete incase of problems glad I listened. Well it worked great I had the stock lock screen which is what I wanted. The problem came the next morning when my alarm went off. I was unable to turn it off. Does anyone have any suggestions because I like the stock lock screen but not being able to turn off the alarm is not an option.

You need to use the AOSP clock/alarm. If I wasn't on my evo, id attatch it for you.

What is that I have not heard of that yet, I am still new to this rooting stuff. I am also concerned because I am reading a lot of people having trouble restoring with Amon Ra. I installed amon ra thinking that it was better than clockwork but now I'm concerned that may have been the wrong thing.

You want to use that aosp clock app instead of the htc one. The htc alarm clock can only be used with the HTC lockscreen, as they are tied together somehow. Since you're using the aosp lockscreen now, you must also use the aosp clock/alarm app instead of the htc one. Otherwise you won't be able to shut your alarm off. Hope that helps clear it up a little bit.
Its the CM7 clock app the same thing as the aosp clock app. what does aosp stand for any way.

Yes, correct. CM7 is AOSP. AOSP= Android Open Source Project . (Not Sense based)

Glad you're all set. And yes, xda is a fantastic forum, that's for sure.
Quick question do I need to install that apk our just place it in a, if so which one? I also down loaded CM7 and I can not find any file name aosp_clock.apk. There is a DeskClock.apk that is comes in the CM7. Not that I don't trust "thebeast614" I do a lot of security work and am I a paranoid kinda person. No disrespect to thebeast614.

Ok after doing more reading and looking I have found that I should be able to take the DesktopClock.apk out of CM7 place it in the /system/apps location give it full permissions, "chmod 777" or with Root Explorer and then I can re-remove the HTCLockScreen.apk and HTCLockScreen.odex, just rename them in case I have to go back. Then after a reboot I would have the stock Android lock screen, which I have done before, but this time with the DesktopClock.apk I should be able to control the alarm better, ie turn it off. Now do I just place the DesktopClock.apk in the /system/apps or do I install it from say Root Explorer. My other question is currently in my stock Evo sense ui, under all apps there is a Desk Clock app, will that be replaced or will there be another app for the DesktopClock.apk that I installed.

Ok so this is what I ended up with and yes it worked thanks to the help of the people on this forum.
1st Have Root
2nd Root Explorer (I guess you could use adb but I find it sometimes easier to use root explorer for soemthing.)
3rd Rename HTCLockScreen.apk to HTCLockScreen.apk_bak and HTCLockScreen.odex to HTCLockScreen.odex_bak. I reason I renamed and not deleted is so I could easily go back if I want to. Deleting will work as well but may sure you have a back first.
4th I installed the DesktopClock.apk from CM6 the latest stable version. Just downloaded the zip file opened it took the DesktopClock.apk out and installed it from the sd card.
5th Restarted the phone and enjoyed the Android lock screen. You have to leave the HTC Clock on the phone or the phone will freak out. make sure to turn off all the HTC alarms off and re-enter the alarms in the new Android clock.

Strange...

Help...
So the first time I rooted and flashed my phone it locked in loop and erased my initial boot pic and has an unrevoked pic in place, I think it takes too long to boot as well, anyone ever had this happen and what can I do?

Seems to work just fine when its all booted...
Anyone???
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I've rooted a bunch of Evos using unrevoked with no issues. I see you have T-Mobile under your avatar.......you are talking about an Evo, right?
Hi, no, I'm with sprint now, no problems except the damn unrevoked image on initial startup, how can I change that? What have I done to change this, help...
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
You can search for HTC's boot animation via the Android Development thread for any of the many available boot animations for the EVO 4G. Many of the thread promoting custom roms usually have a boot animation that can be flashed.

Help! Accidentally deleted build.prop

Can you access your phone, via recovery? If so then reinstall the rom,or wipe everything and reinstall the rom, sorry, but it looks like you will have to start over.
I'm still on the phone. Haven't shut it off. Could I possibly rename the backup back to build.prop.bak?

Ok I did that but when I open it to view, I see nothing. Would I have to restart the phone to make sure it worked?

Hey there. I'm going to assume you're running ICS, as that's when this issue started for me. Just be patient, it will take about 10 or so seconds before it loads up, but it will run.
I got fed up with how long it took, so I'm now using ES File Explorer. My wife has had that since I upgraded her HTC to a new aftermarket ROM and I find it has a lot more features than Astro.
Hope this helps.
