The Desire is almost junk at the moment... :( YouTube and he-aac v2 is screwed - Desire General

I'm sick of waiting for them to fix these issues... All my music collection on my phone is encoded into aac+ (he-aac v2) with parametric stereo. Now it's useless because the decoder has a bug since the froyo upgrade it sounds like crap!
Youtube is also crap since v2.2 update. It's impossible to watch a youtube clip because it crashes almost instantly or after a minute or so. Incredibly annoying.
I think these 2 features are VERY important to fix asap because I can't recommend anybody upgrading to 2.2 or even buying a Desire before we know it gets fixed!!!
Sad...

Don't know about the music thing. However Youtube works perfectly for me on froyo 2.2. Though I ma running a custom ROM

video choppy after froyo fix?

is there anyway to get my videos to play smooth again? everything was great before froyo came along...both avi (rockplayer) and mp4 videos (stock player) were very smooth...then froyo came along and everything is choppy. I have tried multiple roms/kernels...does anyone have a fix???
thanks!
Kill some background tasks, and OC as needed. I have yet to have any issues playing AVIs and even RM videos on Rockplayer. Are you trying to watch an HD video or anything like that?

thanks...i will try that. ...my videos were not hi-def, just dvd quality converted with handbrake to .m4v ...at 65% quality (now the sizes are b/w 800mb and 1.2gb per movie)...they used to play great and look great. Now, they only look great, play choppy. ...really jerky...as my first attempts at hi-def were before froyo came out. thanks for the help!
I have the same problem. It was fine on a non rooted eclair and i did the ota update to froyo the video was choppy. I rooted the ota 2.2 and went back to 2.1 and it was all good, then i tried the 2.2 roms and the choppiness is back. Froyo has its bugs like google navigation working with pandora, and pandora sounding like crap.
**EDIT** sorry, my cpu froze...double post.
MODS PLEASE REMOVE
I was having choppy video even with 2.1 (stock).
After I changed the SD card to class 6 I videos play smooth. This is with 2.1/2.2 both stock and with CM6.

Wow you're able to play 720p movies? I get lag with each video player out there. Rockerplayer, vplayer, arc.. but dvd quality runs perfect.
CM7 nightly 20 oc'd to 1.4ghz.

no like i said i cannot run 720p movies so there is no solution for this ?
The.Simpsons.S22E11.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION
^Did you get that from the pirate bay? Shame on you.
Try an overclock it should help some. I stream 720p flash movies and they actually perform quite well at 1.516Mhz performance, but it does overheat after a while. If you are not rooted and OC is not an option, You might have to convert the file to 480X800 to get it to play smooth. Be warned though that this can take from 20 minutes to 6 hours depending on the speed of your computer, and results in image quality loss.
If you ever get out of sync issues, just jump back a few seconds and it will resync itself. For flash movies I usually resync it every 15 minutes or so.

You can try Act 1, I have had it play a few formats the others wouldnt...I like Rockplayer, Vplayer not so much. Meridian is another good video player.
Try arcMedia

ya arc media is pretty good
If anyone is still looking for more video player choices, Vital Player seems pretty good. Either pretty new, or I just haven't found it before. Good interface, seems compatible with lots of my videos, and automatically selects software or hardware decoding based on the video (without having to select or toggle like Rock Player). I've seen some complaints in the Market reviews about the free version showing ads during video playback. But I haven't seen this. I have AdFree running, so it seems to be doing its job. Also, Vital Player is not yet compatible with Gingerbread, so it doesn't work on CM7.
Since I've switched to CM7, its Rock Player for me. It plays almost everything I've thrown at it, without lag. vPlayer lagged like crazy for me on some videos. ArcMedia has lots of things I didn't like about the interface, and lagged on some WMV files.
I've been using the stock video player since day one when I got my G2. I play all my videos at 720P after converting to .mp4 using handbrake. No lag issues at all.

Non rooted evo owners with netflix

I just want to make sure netflix works for non rooted gingerbread owners before I try unrooting. I was using haus's odexed gb stock rooted rom which is awesome but I noticed no movie file on the phone and netflix wasn't working, so I checked the lib files and a bunch were missing. When I restored my 2.2 version, netflix and movies worked. All the lib files needed for streaming netflix were there so I want to see if gb non stock has those lib files or did gb take them out.

Netflix does not work with any 2.3 setup. It's the app, not the ROM you have.
Ah thanks.

Well that's not completely true there bud, it works on CM7 which is 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 depending on which one you have installed (stable or nightly).........Netflix just doesn't work on any 2.3 SENSE rom for the time being. I read yesterday that Netflix updated their app to work on 2.3 for the Droid X so I'm guessing that it will only take about a week or so until they start rolling out Netflix for the recent 2.3 from Sprint.................Just my two cents in all of this, don't shoot me..hahaha

this is true i am running deck's ginger evo rom with a savage zen kernel and netflix is running flawlessly.
See my problem wasnt just netflix though, no video file would work, avi, mp4, mkv.. no format would work but it could have just been rockplayer, although before I flashed the rooted odex by haus, rockplayer was working fine no matter what format I had. I didnt try other video programs though.

I'm using CM7 Nightly 100 and I've downloaded Rock Player and I play AVI, FLV and WAV format movies and clips with no problem what so ever!
If I were you, I would give other roms a shot before going back to the crappy stock world........BUT that's just me.

Looks like HTC will release an OTA update that will fix the netflix issue on June 20.

htcmediacacheservice freezing my video playbacks

Since I bought my phone I have trouble playing videos in gallery, I finally found what is bugging the playback (electric sound and FC) it's an app called ''htcmediacacheservice'', when I kill this app in Task Manager the video playbak is good but after some trials this app will come back again bugging videos.
Am I the only one to have this buggy service/app?
Deleting it in titanium backup would be good?
Still running stock rom with 1.28

i have the stutter but its not common most of the time play fine and sometimes just go crazy
i guess you just found a solution
I just updated using the 1.29 RUU and currently restoring everything
ill report if the bug is gone
I think this app is here to ''help'' the video player with cache, but sometimes this cache get's buggy or the app itself is not stable,I have found a list of ''deletable'' apps in Sense and this one can be deleted without affecting stability

lol bro half day into your new hox and you already discovering stuff! good job
gallery runs videos using the saver core, so lets hope this is unrelated
what is ''saver core''?
Do you think it's bad ram?
5th battery saver core of Tegra3 to save battery it
its runs in the default video player to play h264 videos and when the screen is turned off
my offer still stands
Hi,
I think I'm having same issue with video playback. It runs most of the time smooth, but sometimes sound "clicks" and video pauses for some part of a second and run further ok. I killed that cache media service mentioned before but it didn't help. Any idea what else can be wrong?
I'm on stock 1.29 rom.
I had the exact same problem with my HOX, happy watching a video and then it would just suddenly stop for no reason at all. I'll have to try this fix when I get my new HOX if the problem hasn't been sorted.

[Q] Jelly King v1.3 Video Playback in browser

Hey everyone, been using kantry123's jelly king v1.3 for quite awhile, and realised there were a few issues with video playback, but can't post this in the dev thread cos I haven't got enough posts yet. Anyway, here are the problems: In youtube, green lines in video playback both in HQ and LQ at times, rather unpredictable, sound has no issues though. Also, in the browser, youtube doesn't work, can't play any videos from websites like dailymotion. Browser attempts to open the video but it stops after awhile. Attempted this with Dolphin and other browsers but nothing worked. Perhaps there's something wrong with the OpenGL?
If anyone can help me, Thanks! Hope to get this fixed then this rom would be almost perfect!

Videos from browser don't work in any rom which is ICS+ but there shouldn't be any green lines so try reflashing the rom.
Don't Forget to press thanks.

I was able to get videos in browsers working on my wfs while using cm10 (latest modpunks) , I installed armv6 version of flash and manually pushed and chmod few libs to system. Problem is that they weren't smooth at all (i guess it's cpus fault), and that's why recommend using yt app for that. If you ll still interested i might look for these files again, as I don't use that phone anymore and I didn't keep it.
